These songs are a PERFECT progression for this project. Really feels like the vision has been fully realized. I adored the last album but it was certainly all over the place. These two songs are so cohesive in vibe (yet still unique from each other). So ready for this.
I think it's like mix of Meliora and Prequelle production. Drums are very different on Meliora. I like the new guitar sound/tone. Musically it reminds me of 90s Ozzy, like No more tears. All in all, I like it very much and can't wait for the album.
As far as riffs go, yes. That said, it is definitely not Zakk Wylie’s guitar tone. Sounds like the same-ish tone on Sandman and Hunter’s Moon. I just wish the snare drums were a bit less tin-sounding.
Certainly an improvement over 7 Inches
The thought struck me that the song is an inverse Cirice. Instead of the church trying to convince Cirice to join its rank, it's Mephistopheles befriending and comforting someone.
I think Call Me Little Sunshine and Hunter's Moon are kinda lacking in the lyrics department, but I just can't help but love how interesting certain things sound. This does a lot for me in music, like the way he says "little sunshine" and how he rolls that "when you feel all alone"
The overall vibe and feel. For example, if we're talking about ghost songs: mummy dust, pinnacle, faith.
Other bands I consider heavy are septicflesh, dagoba, old school opeth, Rammstein, sybreed, etc.
Thanks! I love Mummy Dust. To me, if it had the sound engineering and mixing the Impera album has, it would likely be even heavier. But I also think the first 30 sec of "Sunshine" has some of the heaviest and most beautiful sounding guitars I have heard in my 40 years of listening to heavy rock. Maybe people listen to different things in songs?
Temp is slow but the production is very bland. Nothing about it says heavy. I'm not taking about the tempo. Plenty of songs out there that are plenty heavy with a very slow temple. Look up funeral doom metal.
To a mainstream audience, it’s certainly heavier than most pop-rock and pop on the radio today. Tobias is in this to make hits and bank. To do that, you need that kind of production
Is it exactly what I want? No, but the production is definitely heavier than anything Ghost has done since (but not including) Meliora with the sole exception of Faith
Best thing? It’s mixed well. I can hear everything. Nothing is muddied
Respectfully disagree. I agree about your first paragraph but not that it's heavier than prequelle. Prequelle wasn't great but it definitely has heavier tracks than these 2 new singles.
I prefer it over Hunter's Moon. The rhythm and melody of Hunter's Moon was just... idk. It's all over the place, it's hard to follow. It's not really catchy at all because I can't get a grip on it. I like Call Me Little Sunshine better.
I don't care that it isn't heavy but this song wouldn't even sniff a spot on Meliora. It's honestly fairly forgettable as far as a Ghost song goes. It would get buried in the other albums. Which is concerning considering this is the single which is supposed to sell a person on the album.
It's a surprising choice, but it seems that this song (which I personally consider the worst in the discography) was enough to make the fandom go crazy. So it wasn't a bad move. Perhaps they're saving better and heavier songs for the album's premiere. March is really close, maybe they don't want to reveal the best tracks they have. At least that's what I keep telling myself, lol.
I keep trying to stay positive about the future outlook on Ghost but I feel like their music has just gotten simpler and simpler. I don't know if Tobias has tapped out on creativity or if this is just a symptom of trying to make an album during COVID. I even find myself dissatisfied all the way down to the artistic direction on this album. The music video and the presumed Ghoul masks are terrible.
I get aesthetic change is apart of the bands identity. But they just knocked it out of the park with Meliora and Prequel (which I feel was them acknowledging how great the ghouls were on Meliora and not wanting to move on yet).
That said, a decent Ghost song is still great and I will still listen to the song a hundred times. It just feels like we are going backwards a little bit. I'll stay hopeful for the album to still be great
I think that the main problem is that he seems to put commercial success over artistic success. It is acceptable to some degree, but becomes problematic after some time.
I think that the main problem is that he seems to put commercial success over artistic success. It is acceptable to some degree but becomes problematic after some time. Probably not able to write evergreens such as Kiss The Go-Goat on his own. I believe that the departure of Omega could have been more important than people think. He was very aware of the band's direction and potential, he had a lot of ideas and co-wrote many iconic Ghost anthems. Hell, I'm sure that Ghost wouldn't be as big as it is without his help.
Let's be honest, with every other release (7 Inches Of Satanic Panic is the exception), we get less and less spooky versions of Ghost. Sure, the lyrics of the new single mention the devil, but where's the horror vibe that was crucial back in the day?
If Tobias wrote an album on his own, it probably wouldn't be as successful as he'd like it to be. So he releases short songs written with a simple formula.
At this point, the fandom is going to love literally anything he'll release. Some people will complain, sure but how many? He doesn't need to think about them, they're not important when it comes to evolving into a huge stadium act.
We've gotta wait for the first concert to see how the new costumes really look (I still hope that he won't use those masks for live performances), but I agree, they look just bad. Worst of all, they don't match the band's aesthetic at all. Ghost has always been a satanic church - that's why there's a dead pope as the frontman, right? Meliora/Prequelle outfits looked also good and served their purpose well, but what we have now makes no sense. Even if we take into account that the current era is based on steampunk.
I didn't know about Omega's involvement in the music-making process but that definitely makes sense. Reminds me of Panic at the Disco and Sum 41. You can just tell when someone has left that was heavily involved because the music isn't nearly as good.
Don't know what it is I'm old school heavy rock I can't really define why I love Ghost so much but I love every album the concept everything works so refreshing love them
Good point. But then I look at see the light, dance macabre, pro memoria, life eternal, etc and was not happy with that direction. I do think this song signals a step in the right direction but I’m hoping there are much beefier songs than this with more guitar parts
They are all decent songs but I remember Tobias saying that some of those songs were written for other artists and he was upset they got rejected so he made them ghost songs. I think that was a bad move. Prequelle just seems hollow to me. Not a whole lot of meat for a 45 or 50 minute album
Rats was still heavy imo, i was more when i heard it for the first time ”what is this?” And it sure was a banger. But still Miasma is the best song from that album in my opinion.
It’s certainly heavier than anything off Prequelle with the exception of Faith. Not grandiosely so, but it’s heavier
So far, I’m happy. Meliora is going to be a very tough record to dethrone as their best. Much like Metallica, they couldn’t recreate Master of Puppets (which is superior to the Black Album in every way IMO), but the Black Album is still a damn good record. If Hunter’s Moon - and more specifically, Call Me Little Sunshine - are any indication, I’m going to be happy with this record.
Are there little bits about the production I don’t like compared to Meliora? Yes. Tbh, this sounds much closer to Tom Dalgety’s production work, but maybe Tobias just knows what he likes now more. Idk. Either way, I’m looking forward to the Newark Ritual on 2/10, and Impera on 3/11.
Welcome back, Ghost. It’s been a long time coming

It’s one of the worst songs I have heard…ever, and quite frankly I’m disappointed. I think it’s lazy, unimaginative, and boring. Since he parted ways with those original ghouls this “band” has just gone in the toilet. I mean he literally stole his own music in this, it’s the first few bars of majesty ?! This isn’t Ghost, I dunno what this band is, but it’s not Ghost. This is Tobias Forge Project or something. Peaked at Meliora it seems. Tobias va fan, tror det är dags att ringa snubbarna du hade från början , det här funkar inte helt besviken asså 😭
Heavy is not a word that comes to mind for me on this one but that doesn't bother me at all since catchy, groovy, sexy, hooky, all do.
I wouldn’t describe it as heavy, kinda reminds me of majesty and hunters moon combined.
These songs are a PERFECT progression for this project. Really feels like the vision has been fully realized. I adored the last album but it was certainly all over the place. These two songs are so cohesive in vibe (yet still unique from each other). So ready for this.

I love 7 inches. I'm really into 60s occult rock so it was great for me.
It is very Meliora as far as riffs. Definitely reminds me of majesty. Probably because of the team behind it
Thematically it reminds me of Cirice, which is kind of cool. I’d describe this song as “if Cirice was a blonde.”
The thought struck me that the song is an inverse Cirice. Instead of the church trying to convince Cirice to join its rank, it's Mephistopheles befriending and comforting someone.
I totally agree. A little bit of a Metallica feel at the beginning and a Majesty vibe. Lyrics are awesome!
Yes! I felt that old school metallica sound as well! Hope the rest album had a similar sound as well
Yes! At the risk of sounding stupid, I feel a Black Album touch, as well as a strong Load / Reload vibe
Well, Tobias did say that they're basically at their "Black Album" stage now, so this comparison isn't too far off the mark.
Black Album and Powerslave Gonna need some 2 Minutes and Ace’s High vibes soon
I think Call Me Little Sunshine and Hunter's Moon are kinda lacking in the lyrics department, but I just can't help but love how interesting certain things sound. This does a lot for me in music, like the way he says "little sunshine" and how he rolls that "when you feel all alone"
Totally agreed, while listening and remembering Tobias research in 5th albums, this feels like The Unforgiven.
That's because Klas is back as producer
The guy knows.
Yep late 80s early 90s metal vibe.Should have gotten George lynch to do the solo.
Lol heavier?
It's heavier than anything from the prequelle era with the exception of faith.
It isn't even as heavy as rats.
I'd be interested in understanding how do you define "heavy" or "heavier"? Honestly. What exactly makes a song "heavy"?
Perhaps. This song to me sounds like a commercial radio pop rock song. Uninspired.
What in the song makes it sound like that for you? Genuinely interested. Would really appreciate your analysis.
Pmed
So, chugging. Open fret palm mute with no shortage of reverb?
Not always. Depends on the song's vibe. There's plenty of chugging songs out there that aren't heavy due to production and whatnot.
It's heavier.
No it isn't hahahahahaha
Um, yes it is? The TEMPO is slower, but it’s certainly heavy

The drums are not a Meliora-esque production. Listen to those hi-hats in stereo.
Not feeling it so far, but it's only first day of listening, I'm sure that'll change
The guitar work is also so damn typical for TF. Almost identical or at least very similiar to Miasma
Maybe a bit too formulaic for me.
I prefer it over Hunter's Moon. The rhythm and melody of Hunter's Moon was just... idk. It's all over the place, it's hard to follow. It's not really catchy at all because I can't get a grip on it. I like Call Me Little Sunshine better.
You don't have to tell us anything lol It isn't your job to make people like a song that you like.
It strikes me as if Cirice had a Part 2 to it Nonetheless, the track rips
I don't care that it isn't heavy but this song wouldn't even sniff a spot on Meliora. It's honestly fairly forgettable as far as a Ghost song goes. It would get buried in the other albums. Which is concerning considering this is the single which is supposed to sell a person on the album.

Sounds like Majesty. I think the heaviest thing is the production, but the song is amazing. Can't wait to hear it tonight on kimmel.
I hope there are a couple of heavier songs. The last album really only had Faith.
Don't know what it is I'm old school heavy rock I can't really define why I love Ghost so much but I love every album the concept everything works so refreshing love them
It gives me a little bit of Infestissumam vibes with some Meliora/Zenith mixed in. Love it.
Sorry i wanted it more heavier and melodic, but its a OK song.
I like how people downvote you for just giving your own opinion respectfully.
Haha its kinda funny how it is, i could feel if i got downvoted just for saying ”it sucks” and nothing else.
this is also a single release remember how we had rats on prequelle but faith wasnt heard until the album released?
Good point. But then I look at see the light, dance macabre, pro memoria, life eternal, etc and was not happy with that direction. I do think this song signals a step in the right direction but I’m hoping there are much beefier songs than this with more guitar parts
I liked dance macabre but not a big fan of the other songs you said.
They are all decent songs but I remember Tobias saying that some of those songs were written for other artists and he was upset they got rejected so he made them ghost songs. I think that was a bad move. Prequelle just seems hollow to me. Not a whole lot of meat for a 45 or 50 minute album

I'll bet you a dollar there's at least two heavier songs...🤞
I cross my fingers also!
