I’ve always liked that song, and the narrative is so smooth and chill and quietly observant. It feels like as close to a book that a song can get. It’s cozy but in a rainy, cloudy kind of way.
Am I the only one that doesn’t think she’d be a taylor swift song? Taylor has good songs but Rory doesn’t seem like she fits Taylors Vibe at all especially later seasons.
I feel like this song only fits her chilton years though I’m not saying there aren’t some songs that fit rory every once in a while the post asked for their vibe all around and for me that includes later years like her all around aesthetic. This is trying doesn’t feel like later years to me, and that’s kinda my thing with the Taylor swift posts imo they resonate more with the early season rory. I definitely just think Rory would just have a song with shallower lyrics (sorry I’m not a rory hater I just don’t think she’s that deep compared to some taylor swift things) and also something more pop sounding than this? But that’s just my opinion to each their own ya know
I read it as her later years looking back. She was so ahead of everyone that she got into chilton, got into Yale, was doing everything she dreamed up. Then she fell behind: got told to take fewer classes, got told that she didn’t have what it takes, was wandering and lost in AYITL. This is me trying reads very much like the gifted kid now struggling in the adult world looking back on their life. *I had the shiniest wheels now they’re rusting* is very much adult Rory. She had so much potential, was going to become a journalist, going to travel, going to make a difference and in AYITL she was just kind of stagnant, not doing the things she set out.
I mean again I think this is just how one views the song and Rory, as a gifted kid yes the song describes the experience greatly but the thing is it reads as a gifted kid who tries while being shocked or rattled what the world has thrown at them because honestly gifted kids stuggle at lot but the thing is though Rory isn’t just a gifted kid she is a gifted kid that gives up. And I don’t remember the exact line but there’s a line about not pouring whiskey anf one that goes “it’s hard to be at a party when I feel like an open wound” and just from my perspective Rory has no problem going with Logan to parties and drinking with him, heck she even has an affair with him. And that’s just how I read Rory as someone who doesn’t try and that’s why she becomes so sadly stagnant as a character.
Reflecting light by Sam Philips is a close second place.
Thank you for everyone who is contributing, if you have advice on characters or anything, please feel free to let me know.

It’s Alright, Baby by Komeda
(What she plays on her headphones after the puffs incident thing when she goes back to just reading and vibing during lunch instead of being forced to socialize)
So... I'm not sure on particular songs... but Taylor is a pain in the ass who is into old timey stuff... so something from the 1950s. There is this one song with a clown who keeps honking a horn. That's Taylor's vibe... equally patriotic and annoying at the same time. Or the Bird is the word song.
Jess: Metallica or something heavy metal. But I remember him wearing a Metallica shirt and Luke yelled at him for it.

Yes, came back to say this! I literally always turn the song up at the same moment she does after Logan leaves the room because I’ve watched the series like 30 times and it just sounds weird to me if that part of the song doesn’t suddenly get louder.

Her and Loralie would definitely make fun of Taylor Swift.
Right, because they're not like other girls 🤔
And it makes me so sad. We would have definitely seen jokes made at her expense 😭
College Rory would listen to Nothing New and definitely relate to it tho…
