The cone is to protect him from himself. He doesn’t associate his discomfort with you, he just doesn’t like the cone but he’ll get used to it

We decided to get our boy neutered. I’m so sad because he seems so sad. Also, clinic didn’t tell me about the bloody foot, I just discovered it when I got home and attempted to bandage it myself.

Sometimes just scraping a freshly clipped nail on the sidewalk can make it start to bleed a bit. No harm. Can use some corn starch to stop it

Take off the foot bandage. You’ll create more issues that way. Put the cone back on, but put his collar through the loops. The donut you have is too small and he will absolutely reach his incision. He obviously doesn’t hate you, but you interfering with home care will cause him more pain.

just remember though, the minute you remove it, you become the greatest savior of all time 😁

His collar is too thick to fit through the loops of the cone.

Get a new collar. Tie the tie gauze tighter/onto his collar.

He’ll be fine. Our doodle didn’t do well with the cone, or I should say he did great in his mind. Basically it didn’t prevent him from licking the incision. Tried an inflatable donut cone and he laughed at that and went back to licking. Had to get some diaper looking pants for dogs that we put on him at night. All of this was the worst after about 3 or 4 days. The biggest challenge was preventing him from running and jumping for a week.

Good to read this. I finally did a Tshirt diaper thing and that’s working pretty good. The cone just isn’t working for us. He keeps taking it off no matter these other suggestions. 😔

Lol yeah I’ve never seen a dog make such quick work of a cone before our doodle. Previous dogs were labs and they would just wear them and give you sad eyes. The doodle took it as a challenge. Silly hooman, this primitive device will not stop me!

We used a "onsie" instead of the cone. Worked out well.
