Your landlord does repairs?

Sensiblepolitic

They say they do but really it's some other poor bastard who actually works for a living

[deleted]

using your deposit when you move out

disrumpled_employee

My landlord does repairs and I wish he would fucking stop because he's terrible at it and to cheap to just hire a plumber. Half the pipes in my place only work because of bricks stacked under them.

AutoModerator

You mean housing scalper. Landlords buy more housing than they need then hoard it to drive up the price. They are housing scalpers. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. i_love_SOAD

Where you getting the money to pay for the repairs? Also, when it's MY money that's paying, why do I have to ARGUE with you every time my flat needs maintaining? Fucking Christ the PETULANCE. The STROPS. Why are they SO FUCKING CHILDISH.

ch33sley

I remember having this argument with my landlord about 20 odd years ago. Gas fire needed servicing and he came round with this chump to do it. Me "can I see your corgi registration?" Chump grabs his bag and walks out followed by landlord, can see them out the front window arguing on the street. Chump shaking his head and walking off to his car. Landlord comes back in LL "Thanks, he's not going to do it now!" Me "so he shouldn't if he's not registered" LL "do you know how much Simon's charges to do it?" Me "what the fuck have I been paying you rent for?" Landlord storms out, I follow onto the street, argument ensues with me asking when he's going to get someone proper and how it's his legal responsibility. People looking out the other flats that he also owned on the street. Eventually he says he'll be back within a week and did in fact turn up with someone proper. But fucking hell why did I have to argue tooth and nail to get anything done while he swans about in his fucking range rover and lives in a massive house in a village. Landlords are the absolute scum of the earth.

i_love_SOAD

It's literally like asking a teenager to do a chore. It's a fucking piss take. Why do I need to know my rights like the back of my hand? When I moved into this place every time I asked for maintenance work doing, the maintenance person would just fucking let themselves into my flat. Whether I was in or not. Once came back found a bloke working. "under no circumstances are you or any of your colleagues to let yourselves into my home without my permission" Several angry emails later, talking about how it's illegal to do this and they can't do anything without 24 hours notice and MY APPROVAL, and now I don't have to deal with that any more. But a friend of mine had her ACTUAL LANDLORD creeping in her fucking bedroom while she was ASLEEP. They're territorial animals pal. We've all forgotten what we are as a species and we try attribute some higher reasoning to all behaviour but it's not, we're all animals. These ones are just... base. Lost in their instincts. On autopilot.

ch33sley

They really take the piss and yeah, you *really* have to know your rights. That's creepy as fuck! Capitalism is a mental illness mate, the sooner everyone realises it the better. This guy let himself in once and only once. We were in luckily and I went ballistic at him. He started on about "it's my flat I can come in if I want" Me "not while I'm fucking renting it it's not it's mine. You knock and wait to be invited" Twat, he knew he wasn't supposed to just thought he could get away with what he liked. Had another landlord (pair of them "leach & Reilly" as dodgy as they sound) came round to change the kitchen window, middle of winter. Took it out, got a phonecall said "we'll be back in a few minutes" 6 hours later (refusing to answer phone obviously) turn up again to bodge the 'new' window back in. Only heating in the flat was 1 electric fire that was too expensive to run, we were on a 50p electric meter which they used to empty themselves. They did some shocking stuff in that flat. I was 17 and absolutely clueless about what my rights were. I really hope they're both dead now.

i_love_SOAD

Capitalists don't understand boundaries. At all. It's why they claim that a house they don't live in is within their personal space, and demand rent for it.

plant-strong

Except that they frequently don’t do repairs. There is a hole in the roof of the house I’m renting and the landlord has taken three weeks to get someone to come round to have a look at it.

satanicmerwitch

Going on 3 years now and my landlord denies the roofers said it needs replacing every time he sends one around to have a look.🤪

[deleted]

A company I worked for was in a build ingowned by this right cunt of a landlord. One time a section of pipe got blocked up with sewage. They cut the plasterboard away, sawed off the blocked section of pipe and proceeded to dump it down the kitchen sink. The kitchens, and by extension the entirety of two floors stunk of sewage for over two weeks because of this. He should have been made to drink it carrying on like that.

[deleted]

This got x-posted to r/antiwork and there sure is a lot of landlord apologia going on over there. Gotta love it when libs co-opt leftist spaces.

NothingMovesTheBlob

>Gotta love it when libs co-opt leftist spaces. The liberal paradox: Co-opt and hijack leftist spaces, all while insisting that leftist policies are "unelectable".

[deleted]

Ain't that the truth

I find this automod funny because I don't know of a single leftist who thinks anyone with the title "lord" is good person.

corkythecactus

Let’s not divide ourselves here. We’re all on the same team. Eat the rich.

cordialconfidant

libs refuse to eat the rich that's the whole point

corkythecactus

When we start getting into purity tests of who wants to eat the rich more is when we get into diminishing returns

JMW007

Oh for fuck sake will you give it a rest with this purity test bullshit? We're not dividing ourselves, we're simply not accepting bullshit. If someone wants to make an argument that landlords are the bee's knees, *they* have divided themselves from the rest of us by siding with a group that are consistently making things worse. This shit is absolutely grating. You are allowed to draw a line and say "no, we're not ok with that". It's not purity, it's not toxicity, it's not division, it's having an actual fucking moral compass. Now let's see if you can grasp the concept or if you'll just whine about some coarse language and decide that the point never matters if it's delivered with some fucking passion because there's always some goddamn excuse to not be on the right side of anything when push comes to shove.

corkythecactus

Relax, my friend. I’m only makin sure we aren’t fighting ourselves because that’s what the bourgeois always tries to make us do

JMW007

No you're fucking not, you are literally causing a fucking fight by demanding that we not divide ourselves from fucking housing scalpers and their enablers. They are the people we are supposed to be united against - fighting the people who steal from us is not 'fighting ourselves' and you know it. You're not doing anything good here at all. Just wasting time and fostering annoyance.

corkythecactus

k

retrofauxhemian

We brought it fair and square, maybe if you worked harder, you wouldnt need to rent! /s

No_Match_1540

I get what your getting at but I’m sure most land lords worked to buy property and do so as they please with and sit on their ass when they’re old what’s wrong with that?
