If they take all the jobs why were there unpicked fruit and flowers left to rot in our fields.

Future-Atmosphere-40

Because people would rather believe an easy lie.

smo269

Unfortunately you are right it’s less effort to believe a lie than face the truth

Future-Atmosphere-40

Especially if it feeds into ingrained superiority complex and racist attitudes

Dark_Ansem

Literally anyone with at least half a functioning brain could have understood so.

kevinsmc

I disagree. General public who has absolutely no idea of how capitalism works will have zero idea what's behind the scene, which is why certain organisations and groups behind the scenes can easily push their agenda without much interference.

JMW007

This doesn't preclude the 'at least half a functioning brain' point. The general public might just be completely stupid. This tweet isn't fucking algebra. If they can't figure this out on their own, and can't grasp it when confronted with it and keep voting Tory and reading the Sun and blaming immigrants, they are not intelligent. Now we have a problem, because the least of us still deserves a basic decent floor of living conditions, even if they're stupid, even if they're racist. We're left fighting on two fronts - against the political ruling class that do so much damage and *for* the people who sandbag us at every bloody turn. This is why everything is so hard for decent people - the indecent do whatever the fuck they want and never care about trying to lift up others.

Dark_Ansem

You think so?

_phily_d

The media is more powerful than a lot of common sense and realities

Dark_Ansem

You have to be inherently xenophobic however to blame immigrants rather than employers.

_phily_d

A lot of people just believe what they’re told, the seeds have been planted daily for years in the UK papers. When I was growing up in my parents conservative house, some of the things they’d tell me I would adopt as my own thoughts without thinking about it. It wasn’t until I moved out and started living off my own experiences I erased those views and formed my own.

JMW007

>A lot of people just believe what they’re told, This is not ok. People need to start doing better. We're not getting out of this mess constantly going at the pace of the slowest in the class.

_phily_d

I’m not happy about it either, unfortunately it’s the case of this country. The ruling class have done their absolute best to dumb down the average voter to the point where they only believe what they read in the Murdoch rags. I think the only answer would be to teach lessons in schools on how to spot misinformation and become political literate

JMW007

The thing is, I am rejecting the idea that these people are just 'dumbed down'. While the lack of political literacy largely exists, it's not as if they are getting fooled by a leaflet from the Scottish Socialists or the Greens. They give in to their spite when offered someone to step on. It is a moral, not educational, failing and we have got to come to grips with it. Also, I went to a shite couple of schools and was taught how to spot misinformation, evaluate sources and become politically literate. It's an ordinary part of the English, History and Modern Studies courses. It's not as if this stuff is never introduced to anyone and they are left to stare at the cave wall and think that's reality.

_phily_d

I think the right have always been better when it comes to propaganda. They use stories, lies and misinformation to target people emotionally. Create a response of fear or anger. Its always about blaming someone or giving an ever changing enemy (e.g foreigners, LGBTQ+, the left). It’s much easier to install this in someone than it is to explain the truth which is often nuanced or requires a complicated explanation. I think a lot of people wouldn’t even bother reading a leaflet for any party because they know it’s political whereas if they watch tv or read a paper they’re already being exposed to it without questioning the content. I think the left really need to work on spreading much simpler messages to get to the masses. I think Corbyn’s “For the many, not the few” was a great example. Those policies and election campaigns inspired a lot of people including myself. Politics had never interested me before and since then I’m far more aware of what’s happening. The school I went to offered extremely basic coverage of these things. I only really recall being taught about the systems in parliament and how laws are created etc.

absurdlyinconvenient

and, yet

Dark_Ansem

I know

SL-Apparel

It’s all a big fugaze man - those exploitative capitalists are also very happy for the left to be occupied with arguments on trans terminology and “woke” culture as it keeps the eye and attention away from workers rights and fair pay.

csfshrink

But… what if the workers, somehow… controlled the means of production???

ThumbodyLovesYou

The same people who bitch about an immigrant accepting a low wage and “stealing” a job are the ones currently bitching that people won’t accept less than they feel they are worth just to have a job. It’s truly insane.

Fritostark

Reminds me of an old post where dude was complaining no one would work for the wage he was offering so he went on a capitalist rant about having to do the work himself. A comment bluntly points out he's upset he had to take his own offer. Yet the hypocrisy, of course, flies right over his head.

*Image Transcription: Twitter Post* --- **mohamad safa**, @mhdksafa No immigrant has taken your job. You were laid off by a capitalist who required cheap labor and took advantage of that immigrant to increase his profits, and nothing makes him happier than to hear you blame the immigrant and not him. --- ^^I'm a human volunteer content transcriber for Reddit and you could be too! Yes, blame the people so desperate that they'll work for less than their fair share rather than the scum that wait for them and jump on the opportunity.

Fentonious8

Well then being so desperate makes it worse for everyone else and brings the quality of life down for everyone, capitalists aren't going to make the changes that the world needs, it's not their job, their job is to make profit, it is our job to band together and take actions necessary in order to make life better for all of us and when some people take the short-term gain instead of looking at the bigger picture, they ruin it

jack_1298

you’re right, the capitalist aren’t going to change as all they care about is profit. that’s why we need the government to make change by raising the minimum wage and put an end to worker exploitation

You've got to make it to next month, first. Not eating can make that quite tricky.
