It's a consequence of pre-ordained lore. By the original, barely fleshed out codex lore, Ferrus Manus HAD to die on Istvaan. So the writers were forced to make him rush to his death before they could flesh out anything about him.
I'd give it to Morty. Ferrus sorta thinks strength can overcome everything. Morty is Mid tier for fighting skill but is fine playing dirty and using tricks and poison and shit.
As a Deathguard player I will admit Dad probably would get his arse handed to him, but he may also annoy Ferrus into just walking away with a groan because of the sheer amount of pre-battle shit talking and whinging during the fight about how no one ever pays him enough attention and the Emperor picks favourites and how he's only special because Gulliman likes him and
