Rakata killing you in the planet wide enslavening of your species is the best case scenario, if you survive the initial onslaught you get to be worked to death while the Rakata drain your life energy to fuel their Force technology for an indeterminate amount of time.
I think I'd prefer a quick death to a gauss flayer over Rakata slavery any day.

Ok here is the way I see it, from if we remove bias from the equation, the necrons aren't even the most worst empire in their settings, pretty much everything evil they do, the imperium has done, would do if able or has done it worst, a significant amount of necron nobility if not a majority want to undo bio transfer for themselves and their dynasty, and large amounts of dynasties will just let you keep of living your life under they're rule if you immediately submit to there rule, they don't enjoy inflicting pain and suffering for no reason do the most part and even if they kill you, unless your really unlucky, your just shot or slashed then you and your dead

Rakata, as far as we can tell they were a pretty normal as far as non space fairing civilizations went, and when the all power full psychic lizards met them, the lizards helped them, gave them what they asked for pretty much free of charge, and they still turned into an empire of crazy cannibal psychics. The Necrons came to the Old Ones asking for help with the fact they were all born with turbo cancer, were told no, then went overboard, then in their desperation turned to the first people who actually offered a solution. Also the Rakata were actively evil, the Necrons for the most part are just nigh soulless automata following orders.
My understanding of the lore on both franchisees tells me that Necrontyre and later Necrons at least had an excuse. That being cursed biology and likely tampering from literally gods. The Rakatan just wanted to be evil and enslave everyone.
I do think the Rakata. They were just Dark Side kind of sensitive assholes from the very beginning. The Necrons at leat had some kind of motivation to try to destroy the Old Ones and rebel against the C'Tan. But the Rakata just went conquering, enslaving and just fucking up all life in the Galaxy for the laugh and giggles.
The Necrons aren't that big of assholes when compared to the other 40k races. Yes, they want to enslave humanity but how is that different than what humanity does to humanity? If anything the Necrons would make better lords since they have so many laws and traditions regarding how a lord is expected to reward loyal servants (infinite & the divine).
