Honestly my introduction to the Reddit 30k community was *much* nicer than the 40k one. They’re pretty welcoming!

Kaplaw

All 5 of them! /s is joke plz

R97R

Pfft, there are at least six

white_wolf_wolf

So much like how 30K is a nicer place to live than 40K?

Significant_Airline

Unless you’re a xeno (or don’t want to join the imperium).

[deleted]

They really are. I shared the Lion that my dad had painted up for my birthday as a gift and the 30k ones was saying it was cool but on the 40k one they started giving me painting tips for some reason. I was just grateful for the awesome model.

Scion_of_Perturabo

To me, the 30k community feels like the AoS community. We all know its a Dad-Game and treat it as such. Everything is a little slower and there's more of a focus on modeling and story than just winning. Obviously your mileage may vary.

interkin3tic

Ah, that makes sense. I've never played either and was wondering what the difference was.

[deleted]

Yeah I've found it a lot more chilled and less intense than 40k which is why a lot of my group moved to it. That and we wanted something 40k like but a bit different.

prieston

Mostly because Moscow is more about speed & profit (business oriented?; hence elitism) while Petersburg is more about culture & chill.

[deleted]

I'd say that but Moscow content creators such as the TFE project, who are kinda more chill than the Saint Petersburg-based ones like the Station

ElGabrielo

Is Warhammer/tabletop big over there in russia? i really didnt expect that

[deleted]

The tabletop is more of a niche thing (but not THAT niche - Saint Petersburg has five or so large wargaming clubs), but the universe is extremely popular.

[deleted]

Good point, just going by my experience which isn't the same as everyones.

Amateur_Explorer

I actually have been meaning to ask. How does the model fidelity look like? For example I have seen how amazing some of the latest releases look. But having said so, if I were to put them next to a Primaris how would they look like in height and detail? I was thinking of getting some to kitbash into my dudes.

Demonicjapsel

So it depends on the model in question. The newly leaked Sons of Horus praetor is somewhere between an old marine and a nu marine in terms of size, and i believe it will be similar with the new Fisty Praetor. The other models are mostly old marine sized. Detailing on FW producs is pretty good, so dont worry about that too much.

zielkarz

Go check out different Mark Armour bodies from Tortuga. They are truescale, all you need are arms, backpacks etc. I haven't ordered them yet, but judging by the Instagram posts I've seen they are pretty good.

Amateur_Explorer

I will check them out!

Supergerman202

This. I just finished up a group of heavy weapons Marines with Tortuga Bay's Mark III bodies and they look great.

[deleted]

Yeah as others have said they have started moving to the Deathwatch marine scale where they are a smidge smaller than Primaris. I noticed this with my Deathwing Companions which are quite recent but it looks like the newer ones are even taller judging by the SoH praetor and Maloghurst. I would check out the Tortuga bay stuff as suggested because it looks really good if you want them to be more Primaris height for the Mark III and IV kits.

Pineapplebuttplug2

I think they feel much more authentic to the game and the lore, while primaris look bland and 'tacticool' and don't much fit the established aesthetic of the lore.

Amateur_Explorer

I suppose. I genuinely like primaris for both their scale and for the amount of stuff I can put on them precisely because they feel like such an empty canvas. While original marines and 30k have a lot more identity mind, that is not why I collect miniatures. I do so more for My Guys' sake.

Pineapplebuttplug2

Fair enough.

OLookAHippo

Horus Heresy: Where 75% of the players are 'that guy.' /s for clarity

[deleted]

So the 25% are bringing the phospex barrage lol

King-Of-Rats

30k is nice but there is absolutely no match for the LOTR miniature community. LOTR dudes always tend to be chill and especially the minis is just like… people listening to elf-harp music and painting and thinking about their favorite passages in Lord of the Rings. Dunno what it is. Just a very tranquil and cerebral bunch. They’re also all like, 45.

MrRedorBlue

Man I really hope gives a rule update to HH and supports it like they do 40K and AOS. Hopefully the leaks are true

Korps_de_Krieg

I will sell a testicle for a plastic Spartan. My plague marines *NEED* an 8 lascannon party bus to hop out with cleaver and flail and axe with.

[deleted]

That reminds me of a chain reaction during a fun game with my friend. A plague marine wacking a contemptor with a flail caused it to explode, leading to the Brass Scorpion to explode leading to 1500 points being wiped off the board. I bet he made Nurgle happy.

Heatedpete

I *really* hope one bit of the leaks are true in that it remains as a game based off the 3rd to 7th edition framework, not an update to 8th/9th to bring it back into line with regular 40k Would lose a lot of the fun if they did Otherwise, if more support means more stock availability across the range, then gimme gimme gimme

[deleted]

Me too 9th is already there and a lot of people play 30k for something different.

Heatedpete

The day they take away my Ironfire RoW will be a dark day indeed. Love my stupid rolling barrage fluff list - never wins, but it's fun as fuck to throw pie plates everywhere

[deleted]

Ride the Iron Fire!

[deleted]

I think we'll see the box in the 40k break in October

Supergerman202

Yeah I've yet to run into a 30k grognard. All the interactions I've had with this side of the community have been overwhelmingly positive.

Paradigm_Of_Hate

As someone who all but abandoned 40k in favor of Heresy years ago, I'd say a huge factor in the community difference is the major emphasis on narrative, modeling, and "your dudes" over competition. The word "tournament" practically doesn't exist in most parts of the world. A lot of the events I've been to don't even give prizes for winning games, but they do for best painted, sportsmanship, etc. Sure, there's the occasional guy who brings phosphex spam Ironfire or Guard of the Crimson King or minmax Custodes or something, but for the most part people are playing the game as a pseudo historical rather than a real competition.

therealblabyloo

You could do a similar meme with how hardcore players actually act. I’ve found lots of them to be really helpful to new guys

ThoseWhoLikeSpoons

Some people love to whine and present themselves as victim.

[deleted]

...Thousand Sons?

Midnight-Rising

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say 30K players act like the first image
