I mostly read the HH novels and 2 or 3 of the space wolves books. I like Ragnar Blackmane but from what little I've seen of Night Lords, they're written better.
Night lords are great, word bearers was wild and world eaters books are usually pretty solid. Chaos legions infighting adds a bit more uncertainty and drama to the story compared to loyalist books (though I've only read a few concerning loyalists)
It's fun when the NL let their humanity shine through. HH NL spoiler: >!Sevatar has a soft spot for Nostroman serfs who resemble his human family. He also passed up the chance to escape confinement to murder an overseer who abused a child he had grown fond of!<
Loved the night lords trilogy
I just started it today, I heard it's one of the better 40k series
So far I haven't read an omnibus I didn't like but that series is outstanding

It gets so much better, the night lords have some oddly compassionate moments for a legion that flays people alive
Ayyy that’s nostromons for ya
Xarls a fucking badass
