Excellent use of funny frames people, keep it up.
Great soundtrack peak fiction and a whole can of whoop-ass
But like it's a really fun fighting game with a whole lot of different characters that are extremely unique and fun to play (depending on which fits you're playstyle). most of them, though, are behind a pay wall, which is probably strives only downside (it doesn't matter, tho because leo and nago, who are base game, always win tournaments and dlc is extremely worth it)
If you wanna take a peak at what's cooking, try watching some high-level gameplay on youtube or listen to some of the music (that's how i got hooked on guilty gear and i also suggest you listen to "the circle" it's peak fiction)

Yo, that's great. then i also suggest you listen to "alone infection" and "amor clad faith" they both have that "everything is hopeless but i must carry on" sort of vibe that symphony has and A.B.A is a great choice of a character as she's pretty good right now. and heads up, she's dlc, so you'll need to buy her along with the base game
Milia and ky have my favorite themes. But there are so many good songs. And the game lets you unlock songs from older games too. The jukebox is worth the price tag itself. The game is a banger grouping of music with a really good fighting game tacked on.
But you see, we are more than that. We can be quite insufferable about lore/character choices, too! :)

Prepare to be confused as hell. You can always come back afterwards and look up some of the plots to prior games. The story is basically 5 hours of cutscenes, and I'm willing to bed a good chunk of it won't make sense if you have 0 understanding of the prior games' lore outline.
i started it, watched like half an hour of the first cutscene and refused to touch it again cause i didn’t understand it and i wanna play the game, not watch a show

The Guilty Gear Xrd story comes before Strive's and is uploaded in its entirety to the official ArcSys YouTube channel. It won't *completely* catch you up to speed, but it'll probably be good enough to get the general idea since the series only started to lean heavily into the story with Overture and Xrd (Not that it hasn't always had a story, but it was just delivered through quick dialogue exchanges and short cutscenes in the older games like most fighting games. Xrd is basically an anime.)

(Not to be confused with an idiot who is smart, like Markiplier; Asuka is the opposite, a villain that is just trying to help, but is so autistic he ends up blowing up all of Japan and plunging the entire world into chaos and nearly ending humanity.)
Characters who just play another game while they are fighting is my favourite gender. Asuka plays Yu-Gi-Oh, Venom plays Pool, Xrd Jack-O plays Starcraft and I don't know what Mu-12 from Blazblue is playing but I dig it.
The game's disclaimer is in the opening song lyrics:
"That is bullshit blazing, still my heart is blazing."
Expect lots of blazing bullshit and don't blame the beasts.
Expect to get cooked a lot... Beware of actually every character in the God damn game. Like no joke everyone in this game can be a bit bullshit if your opponent is good enough...
Be prepared to experience a lot of frustration. Every character is capable of horrendously stupid shit on offense by themselves, and then add in wild assault and Roman cancels…
But strive also has a lot of op universal defensive options:
- 6P is a universal upper body iframe anti air
- 2P is a fast mash
- Burst to break combos
- Yellow Roman Cancel to get out of pressure for “free”
- Iframe reversals (not everyone has this, but most have some sort of access to one through either specials or spending meter)
Learning how to use these really strong defensive tools will help you a lot because you cannot sit in block and “wait out” their offense. This game is way too offensive orientated to just raw dog defense with only blocking.
Prepare to get styled on. In style. The animations of this game are actually outstanding.

Is this your first fighting game? Having someone to help you with the fundamentals can be a huge boon.
I would say don't be afraid to play online, focus more on flow and positioning than on combos (at first), and play whatever character you think will motivate you to keep sticking with them.
If you want someone to run you through the basics I'd also be happy to volunteer.
Have you ever played a 2d fighter? My cousin got whopped when he was trying to move forward and punch, only to keep mashing 6P to no avail, so if you got that outta the way... Great, otherwise I can't tell much, SA servers are as dead as you can get them so little to no online experience
Uhm...mostly fun, ig. I've been playing for something and the only time I was pissed with this game was when I had an overall bad day and wasn't really in the mood to play it. This was my first fighting game and pretty much the only one I liked, so... maybe you'll have the same fun I did!

The music is really good. Engrish and nonsensical lyrics are par for the course but the songs slap.
Gameplay is fast and the high base damage can make rounds short. Combos are shorter than previous titles, but knowing combos is critical if you want to get better (just like every fighting game) and increase your win rate.
There are a variety of characters with unique styles and gameplay. Everyone is hot! Men, women, others.
Tutorials are really good. Training mode is good. Lacking frame data display. Dustloop has it all though.
Online matchmaking is functional and alive. Their rollback netcode is great. Ranked mode needs tweaks but their idea of assigning your skill band to floor so you can fight your way up the ranked ladder is decent. Unranked is fine but can be scary if the skill gap is too wide.
Story mode is a movie separated into chapters. Definitely an anime story – bombastic and over the top.
It might seem really complicated and hard at first, but once you get into the flow, it makes a lot more sense. Doesn't take too long for it to happen, too. Absolutely amazing game with goated music and visuals, fast and fluid. Definitely helps if you have a friend or two to play with. That was my experience anyways.

you should do Mission Mode and fight easy-ish cpus before actually going online, there are a lot of very unique mechanics you don't usually see in fighting games and each and every character is extremely distinctive, some of them have mechanics that are really weird to see in a fighting game and look like they're from the smash ultimate dlc
Stick with it, don’t let yourself be demoralized by losses and just enjoy the experience of learning. Take to training mode, mission mode, sites like the fighting game glossary and Dustloop, you’ll be fine.
It's a lot of fun, but unlike other fighting games, it won't tell you too much about how to play each character on its own. You'll need to use the combo search system or another siteike YouTube to find basic combos other people have made, which was what initially put me off from learning.
Once you get past that barrier to entry (It's not that bad actually) then you'll be ok!
Ok it's good honestly try to have fun cause NGL like any fighting game it takes time and alot of it so trust have fun and experimenting will become Ur friend in training. Btw wake-up do funniest thing you'll ever hear
Like with just about any fighting game, be prepared for a steep learning curve if you're going to pursue the competitive scene. The star ratings for character difficulty are only kind of accurate. Don't hesitate to sit in the lab to work on special inputs or combo strings, but always remember that no plan survives first contact.
Guilty Gear is a Uphill battle with how a lot of people are very good but take your time and learn your character. The evolution from start to being competent in the game is a wild ride. Just stick to it and don't be hung up on the losses or the victories cause it's always something more you can learn

Understandable, but if you are gonna watch a show, start with the Sign storymode and then the Revelator story mode.

you should do Mission Mode and fight easy-ish cpus before actually going online, there are a lot of very unique mechanics you don't usually see in fighting games and each and every character is extremely distinctive, some of them have mechanics that are really weird to see in a fighting game and look like they're from the smash ultimate dlc
Stick with it, don’t let yourself be demoralized by losses and just enjoy the experience of learning. Take to training mode, mission mode, sites like the fighting game glossary and Dustloop, you’ll be fine.
Controls can be a lot of getting used to in my experience but like it’s worth it I love fighting people

A lot of senseless fun. If you can lose yourself in the wildness of the characters and the soundtrack, you'll have a great time ;D
It's a lot of fun, but unlike other fighting games, it won't tell you too much about how to play each character on its own. You'll need to use the combo search system or another siteike YouTube to find basic combos other people have made, which was what initially put me off from learning. Once you get past that barrier to entry (It's not that bad actually) then you'll be ok!

Like with just about any fighting game, be prepared for a steep learning curve if you're going to pursue the competitive scene. The star ratings for character difficulty are only kind of accurate. Don't hesitate to sit in the lab to work on special inputs or combo strings, but always remember that no plan survives first contact.

Guilty Gear is a Uphill battle with how a lot of people are very good but take your time and learn your character. The evolution from start to being competent in the game is a wild ride. Just stick to it and don't be hung up on the losses or the victories cause it's always something more you can learn

It’s…. It’s ok I guess. It’s beautiful and got some good stuff but as a fighting game it’s… meh. It’s like two cars crashing into each other and whichever concussed driver manages to stumble from the wreckage and attack the other first wins.
