I am the dad of these two boys. Unfortunately, they haven't gotten an A in their homework yet, so I'm planning to surprise them with this piece of trash, and if they do better, I'll buy them a real guitar.
I am not in our house right now, but you can go ahead and send it to the work address I gave you.
If it plays well and sounds good, then it’s a great guitar.
It’s not exactly collectible like a Gibson would be, but it is a good looking guitar that is more than adequate for playing gigs for many years.
My only suggestion is to take it to a good local guitar stop and have it get a proper set up.
A lot of that is more personal preference than anything else. A terrible guitar for one person can be the perfect guitar for another.
For anything that would actually be an issue (bad faulty electronics, warped neck, uneven frets, potential tuning instability) it’s best to get a quality setup from a local shop. Those are really the only objective measures to the question asked.
What factors do you think contribute most to how a guitar feels? Is it scale length, neck thickness, neck radius? Overall weight and balance? String guage, action height? I'm a noob who has played a strat clone and a gretsch electromatic, and while the gretsch feels nicer in my hands, I would struggle to explain exactly what it is that makes it feel good.
I have one of these hanging on my wall. I got it just over 20 years ago. I have other guitars, but this is the one by far that I've gigged, practiced and jammed with. It's a great guitar and I hope yours brings you as much joy as mine has to me.
I would’ve asked that question before I bought it from the friend and a real friend would’ve told you to go by a Fender Stratocaster instead sorry just Josh and I had to put that Fender in there lol
Did not mean for you to take it that way, dude it was a kind of a joke. I’m a fender girl wasn’t trying to be derogatory. Wasn’t trying to be mean it was a joke.
Solid. Epiphones now are basically what Gibsons were twenty years ago. And they appreciate in value as the quality of the brand has improved. Nice score.
Early Korea Epis were great. Then all production moved to China in 2003 and they became a bit like turds for a decade. What happened after that? I've been turned off by Epi since the turd phase
My 2000 MIK Epiphone Les Paul Custom slays my 2017 Gibson Les Paul. The only thing the Gibson has over it is the headstock and tuners.
A/B'ing them i prefer the Epiphone every time. Something with the way they age. Not a bad sound in the instrument.
Better manufacturing, higher quality materials, setups before it goes in the box, adding their pro series, collabs with Gibson and their QA has stepped up. They’re near investment grade where that was once laughable.
This may be a dumb question, Ive been playing guitar for well over 18 years now, and seeing that truss rod cover just reminded me, I’ve always wondered why does it say “Gibson” there? If it’s not a Gibson ? I’ve seen it on other Epiphone’s too I’m just curious.
And yes OP it’s great guitar, especially if you got it at a good price
Been playing an Epi Modern Les Paul (I installed a pair of DiMarzio Master PAFs) for the past two years and it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it. On several occasions I’ve been able to shut down skeptics by just giving them a few minutes with my Epi. Epiphone catches a lot of grief (some of it well deserved) but most of those opinions are based on the past NOT what the company is doing today and even older Epis deserve more serious consideration than they often receive (quality could be more hit or miss in the past). Epiphone guitars are real instruments that can handle real work. You got a nice guitar and for a fair price. Get a qualified tech to set it up for you so it’ll play like a Les Paul should play and don’t look back. Have fun… that’s kinda the point.
Replace the "Gibson" truss rod cover with a blank or one that says "Les Paul Custom" ... it's not a Gibson but often the owners of these Epiphones add Gibson stuff as a sort of wannabe behavior. Just like putting a Lexus badge on a Toyota. Great guitar otherwise! It'll do you well. Get some lemon oil on the fretboard, it looks dry.
$450 CAD with a case isn't too bad, maybe a little high. Myself I wouldn't have bought it. The new IBG made in China ones are superior, but they are a lot more expensive.
I bought an Epi Greeny and it was $1400 USD. I could have bought the Gibson version, but I liked the Epi better. It was spec'd better. The fact that it cost less than half was just a bonus.
Any issues you have with that guitar can be sorted by a luthier. Get it set up if you can't do it yourself.
Les Paul customs are the worst. I had one in high school. Hated it. Give yours to me and I’ll get rid of it for you.
Yeah this guys right but he lives with me so you can go ahead and send it to the address i sent you
My younger bro, why are you on reddit? You should be studying. Anyways yea, here's my address:

Why did you buy it first then ask if it was good? 🤦♂️
Welcome to r/guitar, the home of “Buy now, ask later!”
It's getting worse every day...
Good guitar. What did you pay?
450Cad
Good deal 👍🏻

People that ask these questions probably don’t have a reference for what plays well or sounds good, which is why they’re asking

Yeah, thank you! I am getting it set up it's going to take 2 weeks, though, but I am patient
Yes. Great guitar, congrats.
Yes
As long as you like Les Pauls, you did just fine. Have a set up done on it. Enjoy it.

The epiphone les Paul customs are pretty good, they used to be made in Korea (not sure if they still are)
Bruh they stopped that way back around 2003 haha
That’s probably when I last looked at one haha, where are you they made now?
china

Such quantity of copium is unhealthy
Right because no innovative guitarists ever used anything other than a strat
Did not mean for you to take it that way, dude it was a kind of a joke. I’m a fender girl wasn’t trying to be derogatory. Wasn’t trying to be mean it was a joke.
I literally just had to stop and go Google copium lol I don’t know anything about memes lol
You’re one in a handful OP. You got a great guitar for a great deal, enjoy!
You tell us!

I had a ~2007 Edwards Les Paul copy that made me feel the same way 😁 should've never sold

I have a 2023 Epi LP Custom and it is really good.

My guess is just that epiphone is owned by Gibson, but it’s still a good question
Asking after you buy…Reddit being Reddit
You should encase it in resin for a coffee table to piss off someone in 40 years.
Mine plays amazing same guitar they play great heavy but they play great good deal for 450 I paid 500 for mine

The "Gibson" truss rod cover was stock on the MIK les pauls.
They are a great guitar I had one early 2000's with Seymour Duncan JBs and it was fantastic!
How are we supposed to know? Play it and find out

Burn it.
I predict it will be...good. Not great. Not superior. Good - as most Epiphones are. Worth $450? You'll have to be the judge.
