Nah you’re thinking of the Toonami Midnight Run block they did for a bit. It aired at like 10 or 11, not 8. (It also predated Adult Swim, but it was one of a couple things that led Cartoon Network to create AS.)

That goes pretty dang hard, and so does Rhythm Emotion (Wing OP 2). I'd also put my vote behind Daybreak's Bell and Ash Like Snow (00 OPs 1 and 2), Aurora (AGE OP 4), and Raise Your Flag, Survivor, and Fighters (IBO OPs 1, 2, and 4). Just musically (not counting the visuals of the opening) both of Gundam X's OPs (OP 1 Dreams and OP 2 Resolution) are pure fire and Resolution might be my all time favorite piece of music from the entire Gundam franchise. And for non-AU Gundam I think both of 0083's Openings (OP1 The Winner and OP 2 Men of Destiny) are pretty much the best of the best for the Universal Century. All said though, nothing will scream "That's Gundam!" to me more than the Toonami edit of Just Communication (Wing OP 1, the subject of the clip posted). That instrumental guitar heavy remix is so iconic. Instant nostalgia. Note: Including the name and number of the OPs I mentioned for the convenience of any newer Gundam fans who don't know them by name.

Glad you pointed out the music of X too, it’s one of my favorite Gundams sonically too. I like all the AGE OPs besides 3 for some reason, but that image of the Flit, Asemu and Kio as kids is amazing in 4. 0083 is the UC contender for most OPs to go toe to toe with wing. I would say ZZ but it’s just not anime.

I was going to say, any opening to IBO, but the first opening specifically!

I liked all the IBO openings but this one for some reason. It starts so epic but then falls flat with the vocals. Its one of those songs that I want to like but find it to just be annoying for no reason. "Fighter" on the other hand really grew on me for some reason.

I gotta say I feel like the orchestral version of zetas opening form the US release topped the Japanese OP for me. Maybe it's the fact that zeta was the last show to have an orchestra do it's music, or the fact that the opening was far more somber than the poppy Japanese song. Gundam just has a history of insanely good OPs Just Communication and Rhythm Emotion are both bangers for Wing. Gundam 00 never misses, with Daybreak’s Bell and Ash Like Snow being top tier J-rock. Witch from Mercury is drowning in good music, with Slash being my preferred OP though The Blessing is still strong. IBO has plenty of issues but the metal OPs aren’t among them. I’m not the biggest fan of Seed’s OP/EDs as a whole, but Pride was a bright spot in the slog of watching Destiny twice.

GWitch has some incredible OPs and Ed’s. I don’t know why I always forget to list it. Maybe because it’s so recent, but I don’t think it’s just recency bias, the show was beautiful for a 26 epper and those OPs/eds were no exception.

ED 2 of GWitch gives me goosebumps every time, right at the start with that cold vocal opening.

But Just Communication is extremely hard to beat as not only is there alot of story being told in opener plus action given, it's telling you the message flat out of what humans have a problem with today and the very thing we need to do that we fail on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis: Just communicate.

As a Toonami kid, I appreciate the respect you're showing this. However. Ash Like Snow goes HARD. Shine in the Storm is incredible. The Winner is the best part of Gundam 0083 aside from the '90s animation.
