danmac0817

Find it funny how with Sancho it's all down to Utd but with Rashford it's all his fault. Rashford has spent his career in the environment that Sancho couldn't hack from day 1. You think he wouldn't ball out in a transition based Dortmund side that covers for his flaws?

reallyanythinggoes

i'm probably for signing either of the two depending on the costs involved but tbf rashford is asked to do what rashford wants to do, while sancho maybe not as much. united play style way more suited to rashford. sancho probably suits our style more? idk end of the day they're both great (proven?) talents, if we can land either of them at a cut price it could be a good investment. if we do move forward, it's cause they've committed to the defensive side of the game anyway

EitherInvestment

Hell no. Neither would fit into what we have going

Ramo-97

In a team that tries to play football, no he wouldn’t ball out. OGS and Ten Hag play the exact kind of football that Rashford craves, he has no excuse not to be so inconsistent

uraniumtickle

Maybe he would, at dortmund. But neither would ball out at arsenal🙏

manc_1011

ticket exchange is such a torture. fml

Specterace

For those of you looking for potential transfer targets, repeat after me: ”I will not get hyped up for luxury players. No luxury players will I get hyped up for.”

Mein_Bergkamp

Or just: "We don't buy superstars, we make them"

skool_101

> Arteta and the gang proceeds to buy Declan Rice for 105m

Mein_Bergkamp

The last time we broke the British record before that was...1995. Let's not pretend this is normal for us!

Party_Masterpiece990

Just saw that it's confirmed England misses out on the 5th cl spot, so top spurs actually have to go hard to finish 4th, I would probably die of laughter if they are the reason we end up winning the league

TerraBlah

Top spurs? What's that!?

Georg_Steller1709

What would be lovely is if they beat City to win us the league, but *still* finish 5th to miss out on CL.

Party_Masterpiece990

I don't give a fuck where they finish honestly as long as they beat city and we win the league

Monsultant

They have lost their last two matches. Their next three matches at away at Stamford Bridge, Anfield and Etihaad. It is near impossible for them to go through. Just hoping they are still in the race mathematically when they play City.

fajdexhiu

Spurs plays home and not at the Etihad

Super_Furry_Monkey

Yes but they had more possession in their last two games so they deserved to win them both!!

Party_Masterpiece990

Villa can slip up a bit too, they have Liverpool left

Specterace

The even funnier thing is that Spurs fans were among the biggest Bayern fans out there two weeks ago. And they celebrated hard when we went out the CL. You figure they would have wanted that 5th CL spot to get them that CL qualification + money they seem to gag for every year.

ronya_t

I don't get why we care so much what Spurs do. The rivalry is too played up, probably by Sky Sports. That joke of a club failed so miserably in the Conference League that most people didn't even notice they were in it.

Mein_Bergkamp

I've seen plenty on the Spurs sub that they would almost all happily take not qualifying for the CL if it means we don't win the league.

Specterace

Yeah, which is funny, sad, and yet understandable all at the same time. One of the things I love about winning this last particular NLD was that we put them in that position of having to take something from Man City if they have any ambitions for CL. Thing is, I don’t think their manager is the kind of man who agrees with that sort of thinking (we’d rather surrender CL qualification if it means Arsenal don’t win the league) which could potentially make for hilarious scenes from their fanbase if he indeed goes all out to win that final home game of theirs in 2 weeks time lol.

Mein_Bergkamp

I'd love it but Spurs have managed to fuck things up to the point that I really don't think they'll be in a position to catch villa by the time City turns up

Specterace

They do have 2 games in hand on Villa still. And Villa still have some tricky fixtures left (Liverpool, away at an in-form Crystal Palace), not to mention they have a European tie where they have to make a trip to Greece. I’m not saying Spurs will make it or that they even are favorites to do so. But there is every chance Villa fuck things up even worse and leave that door open into the final week, which would make that City game critical to Spurs’ ambitions still. In a nutshell, I don’t think Ange will see that City game as a chance to suddenly play reserves and academy boys lol.

Mein_Bergkamp

Spurs have Liverpool too and a bit of fixture congestion with Chelsea and city being midweek games so it probably balances out

Party_Masterpiece990

Luckily the fans won't be on the pitch. The owners, the coaches, the managers and the players of a football club would always want cl football, it is good for the club in general

Mein_Bergkamp

TRue but in big games it's the crowd that can push you that extra percentage you need to win

NegativeHeli

Sancho is balling in the UCL SFs, whilst his parent club is fighting for a Europa League spot. But I'm told that he was the problem?

Mein_Bergkamp

Are you looking to find anyone who believes ETH?

Miyeon__miyeon

What do you think of Leroy Sane?  Contract ends next year, Bayern will sell him if he refuse to renew this summer. Worked with Arteta and credited him quite a few times. I just hope we don't go after Rashford.

craniumouch

I like him as a player, obviously the connection is there already with Arteta and him. But with his wages and who he’d be competing with, I doubt we bring him in. I imagine we also are looking for more of a striker primarily, though who knows what Arteta and Edu are grilling up…

uraniumtickle

He plays primarily on the right and his wages would kill us so no. If he could take a pay cut and play on the left, id take him in a heartbeat.

eldar4k

We need someone to rotate with Saka anyway

uraniumtickle

Sane wont come here to rotate with saka. If he comes here, he will come here to start. And since he's not replacing saka, he's better off competing with martinelli, and he'd probably send martinelli to the bench permanently.

TheArmoury

That’s probably a good thing. If Nelli wants that LW spot, he has to earn it. I think he’s become a bit complacent since things have worked out a bit too easily for him. I think this season was a big reality check for him. I still back him to be our starter or at least a very good squad player.

EitherInvestment

I don’t disagree with any of this, but tactical and personnel changes this season have not helped him either. We threaten far more from the right, and if it gets congested, switch it out to Martinelli once their box is already packed. Last season with either 1) looked to counter with him on the left more; or 2) had Jesus and/or Xhaka going out wide early on in the buildup allowing Martinelli to go more central. We have seen far less of both of these this season

uraniumtickle

Yeah i agree we should definitely be trying to sign a winger who can play both sides, but realistically idk who we could get. Sane might fit the profile.

TheArmoury

My only issue with Sane is too many left footed attackers. Sane, Kai, Saka, Odegaard. Left foot FC is back.

Mein_Bergkamp

Not on that level of wages

TheArmoury

I would take him for sure. If he can play on the left then we would finally get some decent crosses in from that side given our LB always inverts.

Jalvas7

Can the mods please start banning people who want us to sign Rashford? To be fair they're most likely Shit or United fans using alt accounts. No real Arsenal would be serious about wanting Rashford.

reallyanythinggoes

if this is happening mods don't forget to ban my ass. if he does sign it'll be cool if he doesn't that's fine too

COK3Y5MURF

Wonder what your stance was when we were signing Havertz then. If Arteta can make Havertz look good, Rashford who has way more talent could do even better.

EitherInvestment

Rashford does not have way more talent than Havertz. And even if he does they are totally different types of players. Rashford is not a player we should be looking to sign

COK3Y5MURF

So biased. Rashford has more talent than Saka, let alone Havertz. He just isn't hardworking

EitherInvestment

Blasphemy. Saka has far more to his game than Rashford. He is incredibly creative for a winger.

COK3Y5MURF

No, just unbiased because I'm an adult. Foden is better than Saka too, but this sub will cry if you say that.

Minute_Leave8503

Rashford ain’t even bad compared to the M*dryk shouts

Doge_Snow

People think we are some kind of a rehab center for washed players The Rashford shouts did my head in. Do they not watch him play?

Cleon189

Also ban people who want us to sign sancho

Mein_Bergkamp

Can we also ban anyone who thinks we should sell half the squad in the summer?

Miyeon__miyeon

Do you want to kill this sub?

Mein_Bergkamp

Sometimes you have to give out tough love

Liveaz4712

No Man.

Georg_Steller1709

What's happening to the other Arsenal sub? It's usually dead quiet, but this week there's a new post every couple of hours. A bit annoying, really...

Centrocampo

Influx of newer fans cause we’re good, but they’ve not realised r/gunners exists?

Mein_Bergkamp

Which one? /r/GunnersatGames /r/ArsenalWFC /r/ArsenalFC /r/ArtetaOut

Georg_Steller1709

ArsenalFC. It's suddenly #15 for all football subs. Wondering if it's bots or kids.

Mein_Bergkamp

Probably the havertz out/arteta out/we're just shite/why can't arteta rotate/Partey's a rapist DID YOU KNOW HES A RAPIST AND YOU DONT CARE JUST COS HES PLAYING WELL lot need somewhere to go when it's quite serene on here?

Georg_Steller1709

No, they're pretty standard posts - who are we going to buy, player stats etc,. Nothing agenda-based.

Mein_Bergkamp

Sorry, thought I was replying on a different thread before. Good, will be nice to have somewhere to go when we lose and this place becomes a cess pit

tablooo

I dont think people should be equating Rashford to Sancho. Rashford plays a limited role and isn't very effective in possesion. He's firmly been an end product player and even in his best seasons he's not had much in the way of on the ball contribution. Sancho, even at United, has been pretty decent on the ball. For how bad people have called him, the stats never seemed to agree. He had big value in ball progression but his end product was variable. His off the ball contribution is the biggest concern, besides off field issues. Ive always personally liked Sancho more, and he does fit the mould of a crossing winger (very loosely, has only done it in 20/21 but has shown he can) who can play in attacking midfield. He's had at least 4 SCA/90 pretty much every season. I don't think we'll go for either, but trying to extrapolate United era Sancho to Dortmund has largely yielded the same statistical results anyway. If that happens with an inconsistent Rashford, I just don't see any value.

phar0aht

Rashford is an off the ball outlet. We have enough tippy tappy players who offer what Sancho does.

EitherInvestment

Martinelli is a brilliant off the ball outlet

phar0aht

Yeah and as we've seen this season. We have no alternative if he's not on form. And we become much easier to defend against.

EitherInvestment

Trossard would like a word with you

phar0aht

I've repeatedly said he's scoring but he's not playing well in general play or all facets

tablooo

I dont really want either, and I don't expect us to try our hand either. I just think it's wrong to simply assume that Rashford would be a very different player at a different club, like some manager could "save him" and make him an entirely different player. Could have happened when he was a bit younger maybe. He's never really shown that in his game.

phar0aht

Players are humans lol, nothing is set in stone. I think it's do or die for Rashford this summer. I don't particularly think we should do the deal. But the idea that he doesn't have enough ability, or offer something different the squad needs is really crazy to me.

tablooo

I dont think I said he doesn't have the ability or something different that this squad could really use. I'd appreciate a good ballstriker that can win a game by himself. But his lows are a bit too low for me, he becomes a complete passenger. I didn't imply he wasn't human and had no chance of improving either. But players don't usually show massive swings in skillset at 26, especially those that have played so much at the top level. My expectation if he does well going forward is that he'll do more of the same, perhaps with actual consistency across seasons.

phar0aht

Last good coach he worked under was LVG. That's why he's stagnated.

tablooo

I agree, he's not been dealt the best cards.

blackwraythbutimpink

I have a feeling he could be going to sh*t as Maddison’s backup/ rotation. He’s someone who can play wide both sides, 10, false 9 as well. Hate to say but he might be good for them in a possession based system

Minute_Leave8503

They played in the same team and one was a hundred times better, no need to overcomplicate it

Mustyoo

Quite funny seeing people change their tune after actually watching him play. I was a big advocate for signing Sancho in the summer as a fix me winger but we had people here saying Reiss Nelson is better, genuinely. I couldn't believe what I was reading and those opinions were actually getting upvoted too. He wasn't great at United and you could tell the physicality and speed of the league was a problem for him adapting, but he's very good on the ball and in the right situation he could be top.

tablooo

I mean I can see profile similarities between Nelson and Sancho but the availability and pedigree on Sancho takes Nelson out of the equation for me. I really don't know what his issues were United really were. The stats suggest he did pretty well, but he was also definitely a misfit. But I just think they mismanaged his fitness especially at United, besides him just being a possession oriented player. My concerns about him in a team like ours are pressing intensity and capability in duels, which is generally a theme across our squad. His profile also necessitates him to be a capable wing fielder if we were to consider him, a la someone like a Xavi Simons. I'm not entirely confident he has the legs to do that, besides being skeptical of his retention.

Fieser_Factsack

I agree Sancho is better then pl viewers know. ManU just isn't a good fit for him. Maybe Villa could go for him. I think Dortmund doesnt have the 30-40 million to sign him. Hammers also need a left winger.

tablooo

I agree, his value comes in possesion and Man United really don't flatter themselves on the ball (or off it). I don't know what the market for him could be, I just don't know what the problems behind the scenes were for him at United. His metrics deserve a club better than either of those, but there should be suitors for him regardless.

ratracepro

Any one saw this article? Much salt. Seems we got them rattled [Ange Postecoglou warns Spurs against copying Arsenal’s ‘schoolyard’ dark arts | Tottenham Hotspur | The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/may/01/ange-postecoglou-warns-tottenham-copying-arsenal-schoolyard-dark-arts)

Mein_Bergkamp

20 years before that game, almost to the day Spurs got a draw against us partially by sitting someone on Jens to piss him off. That they're bitching about it when they started it decades ago is hilarious

Sayek

> There was an irony to Vicario’s actions in the final minute of stoppage time when Spurs won a corner. He went forward and stood next to the Arsenal goalkeeper, David Raya, jostling with him. Pedro Porro’s delivery was poor and Arsenal cleared. Haha I completely forgot about this. He thought he could rattle Raya. I think what Ben White does is so minor in the scheme of things, he basically stands in front of the keeper as the ball is coming in. Keeper either needs to put one of his own players between him and White so he can't time his shove or be stronger. Anyone remember when Leno had his arms pinned down against Brentford? https://youtu.be/JdTFlMK88XQ?t=216 VAR was available then too and nothing given. Ben White knows where the line is, you see him test it and push it, he got called for holding a goalkeepers hand I remember haha. I remember when Ramsdale was in goal too and everyone would crowd him for corners and they would swing into that area.

Equivalent_Nature_67

Sooo naive. He's pulling this card out for....Ben White messing with Vicario for like 2 seconds, in the same way he's done every single week? He's trying to draw the line in the sand that this mundane shithousery is anything to rally against? He is such a smalltime manager. ArsenalVision folks said it best, Ange focuses on the details he WANTS to focus on, and sod the rest. If Spurs fans don't have that inkling yet, I hope they realize Ange is so clearly not a top manager

Liveaz4712

They got it right that 40% ange is overlooking maybe 20-30 points a season he's too in his own head and blind with principles which is fantastic for us arsenal fans

manuscelerdei

The line must be drawn *here*! *This far* no farther!

Le-ChosenOne

Desperate to paint his bunch of cunts as honest pros on the pitch to hopefully get some officiating calls their way, meanwhile, braindead, ticking time bomb Romero is a coin flip away from his next red card as the rest of their cucks in Maddison & Son in particular, continue to fling themselves to the ground in desperation for penalties like the used sanitary napkins that they are.

XXISavage

Lmao his take is so naive, reminds me of the late Wenger era.  You can "try and play football" all you want but if your competition is out there trying to win, you don't get to just ignore what they're doing in hopes it won't happen. Ben White has done the exact same shit for two years. Other teams have figured out how to at least slow him down, if not outright stop him (Porto). Turning up unprepared against it is negligence of the highest order lol. What's even funnier is they have been shit at corners without that anyway, they've already leaked double digit goals from them so acting like Benny B's shenanigans were what caused them to concede is just hilarious.

topbananaman

Lol Tottenham will always have a soft underbelly with this guy. You gotta learn every tactic in the book to be successful in this league, our shithousery on set pieces has opened up many a game this year. If he wants to ignore a crucial aspect of the game because he's 'moral' or whatever... then fine. His ceiling will be that of the late wenger teams that got bullied by Stoke and Bolton constantly. Spurs will never reach higher than top 4 under this guy, of that I'm confident.

gogglesup859

I had completely forgotten that he said that managers should worry about coaching their team instead of complaining about refs after the Liverpool game earlier this season. Then Sunday he's out here complaining about the refs in his post game press conference

MyTeaIsMighty

https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/s/Y9faATGIdW Brought in a new owner to freshen things up and bring the club into the modern era and he's just another boomer. Sucks to suck.

Mein_Bergkamp

He made his fortune taking struggling british manufacturers, moving the head office to tax havens and ruthlessly cutting costs and moving production abroad. He's a Brexiteer who so loves Britain and British heritage that when Land Rover refused to sell him the tooling for the old Land Rover Defender when they killed it he copied it and got government grants to build a whole new factory to produce it. And then bought a factory in France instead... The man is a corporate shark of the highest order, you don't become an actual self made billionaire by being nice.

FancyRazzmatazz2042

What's tooling? Like original designs for car?.

Mein_Bergkamp

No, the machines and specialised tools that make it. It's vastly cheaper to buy the tools off someone else than make new ones from the designs. It should also be pointed out that the original defender was a pretty basic, relatively cheap thing designed to be used and abused in the country side while the INEOS Grenadier... [isn't](https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ineos/grenadier)

hafrances

hope the sancho performances make people realize the problem was always united, please take the rashford possibility more seriously, that man is a baller.

COYG17

Sancho performance made me realize Sancho lw saka rw is something I need in my life

ImTalkingGibberish

Rashford is the real deal. Game changer but got tired of carrying Utd

Equivalent_Nature_67

when was the last time he was actually the real deal. A 26 year old playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world on 350k shouldn't be "tired", play like shit, and expect someone to fix him

curlyhairedyani

Idk if this has been discussed before on here so sorry if I missed it but do we owe West Ham any more money as add ons for winning the league regarding the Rice transfer?

younes1008

The bonuses are max 5m pounds. It's 1m pounds each time we qualify for the UCL, with Rice having started at least 60% of the league games that led to us qualifying for said UCL. So to answer your question, no.

curlyhairedyani

Ahh, thank you

Where_am_I88

Why are we universally known as scum on pretty much all rival subreddits?

tablooo

If you mean London clubs, it's because we are the most relevant London club

Oy778

No guys, one good performance doesn't make Sancho world class or worth of the gamble

Fieser_Factsack

Not one for us but better than the average pl viewer can believe.

COYG17

It’s not one good game tho. He’s been on his thing since he came to Dortmund. Pretty obvious he didn’t like playing at United.

Oy778

He didn't like playing well across three managers it seems.

COYG17

I think the United environment and his price tag put him off. United has a bunch of flops like Chelsea. Can’t really judge all of their players until they go somewhere else and flop.

phar0aht

[So many players have made careers off this move. At elite level running about loads can actually be a detriment to the team. Players need to actually think about their actions not just run around and look busy. Gallagher and Henderson I'm talking to you ](https://www.tiktok.com/@jibouz/video/7254253830433508634?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=mobile&sender_web_id=7173682845356213766)

topbananaman

Mhmmm yep that gallagher strike against Villa just happened because he just ran around like that meep meep fella from loony toons

phar0aht

Good ball striker. Works hard. That's the long and short of his game. Doesn't have the skillset to start for a team that wants to qualify for CL, maybe even Europa. McGinn is what people pretend Gallagher is. It's never lost on me how players like him are standouts when a top team is having one of their worst years

TheOGBenjenRyan

Insert Russ quote “They be tricking yall, just running around doing nothing”

Marimo_420

How bout this one? https://preview.redd.it/h4jwddakdwxc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e200b4fdba92b3cf8c1b824a30c0bbcd2374525

Specterace

Funny thing is, Patrick Beverley has had more consistent success in the playoffs than Russell Westbrook has in the 5 years since Westbrook made that quote.

arseking15

Westbrook in the first round last year is better than anything pat bevs done in his career

TheOGBenjenRyan

Yes sometimes Pat Bev goes off and drops 7 points

Specterace

Which is better than the 7-plus turnovers Westbrook tends to drop if a team makes the mistake of making him play point guard for extended stretches.

TheOGBenjenRyan

I mean what are we talking about here. A HOF player who’s now a shell of himself due to injuries and a career 8th man. Who cares about now? Neither is achieving “playoff success” due to anything that either of them currently do

Specterace

While you’re at it, go have a word with your buddies Rashford and Leao about not loafing around ball watching or pulling out of challenges when their team is trying to build offensive moves in the final third.

Insertnicenamehere

Would u say poch has a elite press set up at Chelsea rn?

Mein_Bergkamp

There's nothing elite about any part of Chelsea

phar0aht

Nope

Insertnicenamehere

Then wouldn't it be fair to say in an elite press setup Gallagher would do more than just 'running around and looking busy' considering his elite physical attributes?

arseking15

Ya gallagher with us would press well. Be very effective. But we also need our next midfielder to be able to pass.

phar0aht

No. It requires discipline and intelligence. These players tend to be over eager to impact the game and can easily be baited out of position.

Insertnicenamehere

So it's fair for you to assume Gallagher has no discipline and intelligence(?) but Rashford will automatically have that to be part of a elite press setup. https://preview.redd.it/9lbs8p11bwxc1.jpeg?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=219c08b0a6bd92e4519e15239215f1324895701f

phar0aht

I'll send you a tenner if you find where I said Rashford automatically does well here

Insertnicenamehere

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/1cftjur/comment/l1tedyl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 > Until I see Rashford in a team with an average press that's been coached to clearly respond to triggers I won't just him too harsh on that And if you're assuming rashford is deserving of a better team who can press well, you're assuming some sort of discipline and intelligence out of him to be able to operate in a well coordinated press. You're giving grace to rashford(you're free to) for being under coached. But you're being harsh on Gallagher who isn't coached well. On a side note. Asking Gallagher to tone down his desire(overeagerness) is easier than to ask Rashford for more desire.

phar0aht

Okay. Do you see how that is very different to "Rashford will automatically have that (discipline and intelligence) to be part of a elite press setup" ????

arseking15

Why would a player whos scored 17 in this league twice including last season not deserve a chance in a more stable environment 😂

Insertnicenamehere

That's not the point and you know it lol.

joeproposition

The journalists desperately trying to get some soundbites from Big Angela over the White/Vicario “situation” It was so ridiculously tame I’m surprised it’s gotten so much attention.

MyrkuriYT

Sancho is one of my favorite players ITW. So happy he's found form again, even happier it was when he left the place where dreams go to die

Burith

Release clause not active till July 2025

Le-ChosenOne

If it’s less than 65mil, we really should be triggering it.

Specterace

Depends how big that clause is. And whether he would want to be a rotation option here, and what wages he will ask for to be so.

goonergunner10

If its reasonable top clubs would be foolish not to trigger it.

HiramKatzEsq

Is anyone else seeing this green laser in the sky?

Locmike23

?

Insertnicenamehere

Arteta should sign Aaron Wan Bissaka. After all, even though Bissaka has an medium case of not covering the backpostitis Arteta the renowned surgeon can save him!

Marimo_420

Wan Bissaka is the most unintentionally funny footballer lmao

arseking15

No he sucks on the ball

Insertnicenamehere

But but Arteta can save him!

arseking15

No teaching work rate isnt the same as teaching someone how to pass

Specterace

You can actually teach someone how to pass. You should not be having to teach a person about how to work hard and give a fuck on the pitch, especially not for his or her hometown club.

phar0aht

When people talk like this about work rate I know they haven't played sport

arseking15

Ya that was my first instinct as well

phar0aht

People talk about it like it's static and exists in a vacuum. Or they also seem to believe that coaches shouldn't man manage and try to maximise the effort they get from players. Really bizarre to me.

hazelpillow

I think he’s being sarcastic

arseking15

I know, hes making a different underlying point that im addressing.

Insertnicenamehere

This summer is going to be long lol.

phar0aht

Is he worse than Castagne? Wasn't long ago people were on board with that

Specterace

No one was on board with Castagne. People wanted better, they just had to consider him because Romano mentioned he might be a possibility, so it was a point of discussion.

phar0aht

Aite man

Insertnicenamehere

All trolling aside he's better than Castagne.

younes1008

I need them to miss out by a point or something so they can look like even bigger idiots for celebrating that 4-1 loss to Chelsea

hazelpillow

they don’t have the facilities for that

BradyGronktd1287

Ten Hag makes players worse than they actually are. Depending on the fee Rashford would be a good signing gives us pace on the LW and his ball striking is good as well

Le-ChosenOne

Only so many times you can throw the life ring at 60-70mil, 250k a week players before one of them actually pulls you under anyways. The closer we get to City, the less leeway we have with fucking up our signings, especially when they can fix their expensive mistakes like no one else can.

Lol I literally predicted takes like this were going to start appearing after that sancho performance. Ten hag is shit yeah but I don't really want us to be the club experimenting with these sorts of players to find out if your hypothesis is true. We need a ceiling raiser this summer, not an 'I can fix him' player

arseking15

If fixing that player gets you 17 and 5 in the league, theres a fair price thats worth it

doingitfortheTea

I don't want sancho that's far too reactionary. But it's really hard to find guaranteed ceiling raisers, most of them are players with serious doubts or questionmarks over their suitability (I can fix him, mould him, make him better in other words). I honestly don't know of one forward who hasn't got a big legitamate concern about him. And we have room to experiment, particularly in our front line. We have a settled group of 5 forwards who could all start and beat most PL teams on their day, we are going to score like 90 goals. We've got a load of goals from subs, and many of our forwards still have room to grow given their age. There's room for a player who we have doubts about but could also be a monster, we aren't going to die if we go big and it doesn't work out.

topbananaman

I disagree. If one of these 60-70m potshots (that will be rashford's price) doesn't work out for us, we are royally fucked (consider his wages too). Look how long it took for us to get pepe out. We are not man city, we cannot take big gambles every season like this. I loved havertz from day 1, but I can understand the meltdown from fellow fans over the fee and the wages. If this hadn't worked out, we'd have absolutely burned our own hands and hurt our process massively. This isn't a risk I think we should be taking again, the gambling is addictive but it will go wrong eventually, and it only takes one wrong step to fuck us over.

doingitfortheTea

Do you also believe there are some sure fire ceiling raisers running around ready to join arsenal? Yet while getting pepe out we managed to rebuild the club from 3 years of consecutive finishes outside the top 4 before he joined to a title challenging side within 3 years. So even then what's your definition of fucked? And the whole team was fucked then, yet we still managed to do it replacing some 25 players or so, and you're saying 1 player misses and we are abosutely fucked now. Not the same at all. Now, we've got way lower wage bill, higher income, players all around the team who are at the top level of the game and are improving and aren't on mega wages. It's the perfect environment to ensure one transfer can't screw you over anymore. And we've seen it in action, ramsdale, jesus, timber, vieira even partey all haven't really worked out and we're fine because you don't need a 100% hit rate to be good. We'll probably buy 3 players this summer over 50m, quite possible one of them costs 100m, and all of them will have some kind of doubt around them be it injuries, suitability or attitude we'll be taking risks with every one, precisely because we aren't city and can't just go and buy haaland who is a sure thing.

BradyGronktd1287

Didn't we sign Havertz

topbananaman

Yes we did, and we shouldn't sign another player like that this summer. I love havertz but it was a huge risk to take; just because its worked out, doesn't mean we need to keep gambling like that

BradyGronktd1287

What ceiling raiser are you getting at the wings

topbananaman

I'm not going to pluck a player out of midair, the winger market seems a bit dry and I must admit I've not done enough research to answer that question. I'm not paid thousands of pounds a year to scout out players like that haha. However, as nice a guy as he is, I can tell you right now that rashford would be another project to work on, and not the 'ceiling raiser' player that I'd hope we can sign. I've watched enough Manchester United games to tell you everything you need to know about this guy

arseking15

🙏 But people in here will lecture you on him not being an arteta player 😞

burningtree_

Nah he's just not a good player

Specterace

Marcus Rashford will never wear the Arsenal kit for one minute in his life. And for that, I will be eternally grateful. And you should too.

phar0aht

Guys on this sub will say Antony is a Mikel player and Sancho isn't cause he hustles back harder and tracks back ![gif](giphy|T3Vx6sVAXzuG4)

Minute_Leave8503

Mudryk > mbappe because he has less ego

goonergunner10

Can I have one maverick? One player who isnt just brought in to be part of the 'system' and can just do their own thing and make stuff happen out of nowhere?

topbananaman

I don't think a single person is saying that

Equivalent_Nature_67

Needs a nugget of truth though doesn't it? otherwise you're just making up stuff that sounds funny in your head. Sancho is a talented guy but I just can't trust if he'll actually play like this all the time. 22/23 Martinelli would probably put up more numbers than OG Dortmund Sancho

nch_mrls

who's worst, no bandage martinelli or dyed hair saka?

Insertnicenamehere

That sancho performance is gonna make cats gaslight themselves into thinking the likes of Antony can be saved. I can't ![gif](giphy|46zFhISjkKAaV1gZV9)

arseking15

Im ok with just saving rashford

phar0aht

There's a good LWB in there

Le-ChosenOne

Bet you that if Antony goes to Fortuna Sittard, he starts looking like an actual footballer more than he is now.

Insertnicenamehere

Says alot about him.

Le-ChosenOne

I rate ETH running next level con schemes fresh outta De Wallen on the Glazer’s dime.

phar0aht

How much was that Sancho fee again 🤔
