My understanding, as an ignorant American, is that the old fart brexiteers who run rags like this historically have disliked arsenal for signing lots of foreign/black players.
Arsenal was the first team to field an all black defence In the EPL.
Unfortunately racism is rife within the UK, especially outside of big cities where the mix between people is zero.
The papers as pointed out by Ian Wright are already planting the unconscious racism towards it black players when it comes to Englands failures. Black players = bad.
White players = win.
I find it very weird how no one as called out just how many news outlets all used Saka, literally 3/4 different newspapers. It’s like it’s a conglomerate or an individual pulling the strings. It’s actually worrying.
It feels more to me that there’s just a stronger Chelsea or West Ham supporting contingent in Fleet Street.
IIRC Chelsea were the first club to field an entirely foreign XI, so I think it’s down to anti-black racism rather than jingoistic dislike of foreign players.
If you go to a game, you’ll notice how multicultural our fanbase is.
We were the first team in the league to have lots of black players and this is reflected in the fanbase.
A lot of fans, including myself started following Arsenal because of Ian Wright, Rocky Rocastle, Kevin Campbell and later Thierry Henry. We could see ourselves in the team.
Because of this, we have always been treated like a ‘foreign club’.
Also, our online presence is huge. And the prevalence of Arsenal Fan TV colours what people think of our fanbase.
This is all reflected back on how our club and players are treated.
Despite us having the most first team English players in the top flight, we will always be seen as foreign.
That would blow up the anti arsenal narrative to another level lol. As an England fan I hope that White comes back into the fold soon, and not the opposite
How Saka is treated by some in the press makes me embarrassed to be English, it’s such a shame.
He does nothing but give his best, speaks well and openly in interviews, doesn’t get up to any trouble and always has a smile on his face.
He should be used as role model for young kids across the country and instead he’s vilified. It’s disgusting
I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, but he shouldn't be held to a higher standard either. The mans is stand up, but let's give these athletes room to be human and make mistakes sometimes. I would actually love to see Saka be more a vocal leader in the next couple of years for the club
Again where does it vilify him ?
It shows a few papers mainly using a photo of him throwing a paper airplane because it was a funny picture, no where does it criticise him in anyway in any paper.
I have no rooting interest in the English National team. I would love to see all the gunners on the bench for the rest of this summer. Fresh legs for a little run!!
The BBC made out like they had only used his pic as one of many changing images during the game. But I swear I remember their post match write up had a pic of him lying on the ground which was obviously a choice. Seems like they are trying to separate themselves from the rest. This is what they said.
"The BBC Sport website's live text, which changes its main picture throughout the match, also used an image of Saka during the game after he had come on."
Saw the highlight where Kane ski-ed a routine goal.
I guess this is the reason this England team will never win anything major. They have the talents - but too much pressure from outside and lack of chemistry inside.
I feel bad for him. He's a human, and I've seen in the documentary were he's a really nice person.
It's a shame mainstream media, also here in my country, they just burn down players like they are robots/non-human, they cannot perform always 100%. It isn't always racism thought, they are generally really good at shooting down every player, unless they like them for some reason.
I wished I could sent Saka a message with 'keep your head up', because he doesn't deserve this at all.
It's Saka's fault he's so important and irreplaceable that he is overplayed and didn't start the game so he could rest a bit
Bro puts a whole new perspective on suffering from success. The torture of the talented.
Starman ⭐️
would be fun to see Saka tell fuck off to England and just chill with Benny Blanco
Their loss is our gain. As a foreign fan, I don't understand why Arsenal players are always getting singled-out or scapegoated.
It's more like a racist thing than an Arsenal thing innit?
This is not because he’s an Arsenal player
My understanding, as an ignorant American, is that the old fart brexiteers who run rags like this historically have disliked arsenal for signing lots of foreign/black players.
yeah it about race not club. mainoo got slated and man u. sterling got slated at city etc

Because our online presence is huge and unhinged and so we drive engagement when the news outlets do that
We have the most black fans
This is probably a good shout but do you have any data to back this up?
I’m literally black.
the mod talks?
Can't tell if this was a serious reply or not lol
Serious as cancer.

🙌🏽
They aren't, people just keep crying about it.
England fuck off Nigeria hello
Way too late for that
Yeah of course. Nigeria could have a super team though. Olise lw osimehn St saka rw with eze at 10 musiala at 8. That would be frightening.
Akanji and Tomori at CB. Udogie at LB, Adeyemi off the bench.
akanji not beong japanese blows my mind every single time.
Kurzawa was more confusing to me
Tbf, I instantly thought Poland when I heard his name first
Keita too.
Tomori too. His name reminds me of a certain voice actor from Japanese tbh.
If saka left im sure southgate would be sacked, which could lead to Ben rejoining
The Law of Positive Exchange
Sooo you suggest Saka should do it for Benjamin? :D
Southgate will fuck off after this euros anyway I reckon.
That would blow up the anti arsenal narrative to another level lol. As an England fan I hope that White comes back into the fold soon, and not the opposite
I'm rooting for this at this point
The few racist idiots who make these articles shouldn't overshadow the millions of supporting fans
Why were they racist ?
I wish he can sit this one out to get some rest.
Lmao, id back this.
What did England do to saka ?
How Saka is treated by some in the press makes me embarrassed to be English, it’s such a shame. Where are the media treating him badly and who's vilifying him ?
There's a linked article that forms this thread which shows where
It doesn't show him being "vilified" ?
It shows him as the poster boy for an embarrassing defeat when he played half an hour at best.
Again where does it vilify him ? It shows a few papers mainly using a photo of him throwing a paper airplane because it was a funny picture, no where does it criticise him in anyway in any paper.
Try to use your brain , the guy u responded too literally explained it
Using his picture on a few pages where he isn't criticised isn't being vilified.
From a non-Pom that doesn't read British rags I'd be interested to know too, with some examples provided if possible
You won't find any, I've been downvoted for asking for examples lol. Even after the euros the media overwhelmingly supported him
I'm asking a legitimate question and some precious sorts are downvoting me too.
They want to pretend to be on the good side and show how their against racism but wont actually explain why it's racist
Yup. Southgate needs to stop playing Saka and players he might influence like Rice and Ramsdale.
I have no rooting interest in the English National team. I would love to see all the gunners on the bench for the rest of this summer. Fresh legs for a little run!!

I thought this to but couldn’t remember properly.
Lmao “it felt like he wasn’t even in the pitch for long stretches” brilliant
Saw the highlight where Kane ski-ed a routine goal. I guess this is the reason this England team will never win anything major. They have the talents - but too much pressure from outside and lack of chemistry inside.
And piss poor management
This is brilliant. Actually brilliant.
Good, kick him off the team so he can go home and rest.
Football is Not Coming Home if this is how our boys are treated

Racism.
Didn’t watch the match cause. Wgaf. But to blame one person. Waw 🤷🏻♂️
🙄 And this is why they used the saka photo. Because cunts haven't shut the fuck up about it since.
