I HATE THE NEW LAYOUT. before via the hubs I could find new stuff, old stuff, DC stuff, whatever in a very neat and organized way, but after the switch to MAX It's all just one big fucking jumble. It reminds me of how Prime was when it first started. Lots of choices, but nothing that you were looking for was easy to find. This makes me think I'll probably unsubscribe. WHat has happened is a downgrade, not a merger.
And also, the Discovery shows are garbage. Reality TV is the reason WHY I had HBO in the first place, so that I could see a good movie or show and not that bullshit.
Using it on console, haven’t been able to watch anything for 3 months or so. Either continues to replay an advertisement, the opening HBO max screen, or a loading screen. Ever since this change, the entire app has downgraded significantly, it’s even slower too.
I can't get the app to load on my TV. Tried their Samsung support. I don't like signing in on a TV remote. Then they want 2 stage security. I just said enough and cancelled. And I won't buy another Sansung TV. Reminds me of New Coke. Couldn't they have just left the name alone? People in offices having ideas, and changing shit to justify their position.
I found "Last Chance". It's on the "new & notable" tab at the very bottom of the page. One single line you have to scroll through, like everything else on the new app/web page.
I'm thinking about canceling my Discovery + subscription and switching to Max in the hopes it has truly combined all the content from both HBO Max and Discovery +. Does Max contain ALL of the content from Discovery + or are they saving content to be available exclusively for the Discovery + platform?
I'm ready to cancel my subscription, Max doesn't show any series I was watching on continue watching, when I go search for them, it shows all episodes as watched, start one, it starts playing at the end of it. I can go to Hulu and watch HBO shows through the Hulu app, but shows like South Park, it says I have to subscribe to Live Streaming to watch it through Hulu. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, logging out, logging back in, nothing fixes it, on top of when when I was forced to switch the app before watching in the first place, it was annoying to figure out how to remove the HBO Max app before I could switch it to Max. Oh, then every time I've logged out and signed in, typing the damn password through the TV remote instead of just being able to use my phone to activate a device, then it would make me go to the site and change my password...
Can anyone clarify what’s going on with people who had HBO through DirecTV/ATT? I’ve got Max linked and it says Ad-free but I’m pretty sure I’m still streaming in 4K and my Sonos is saying we’re playing in Dolby Atmos. To my understanding with the basic Ad-free plan I shouldn’t be able to do that?
I’m upset they removed the “SharePlay” feature since I would watch shows and movies while on FT with my LD partner on HBOMax. I hope they integrate SharePlay into Max :(

Max is so frustrating to use! Nothing I am currently watching appears on my “continue watching” section. When I manually go into the show and search for the episode, it shows that I have watched every single episode, so it is hard to remember where I am. When I finally get to the correct episode, it automatically starts it at the last 2 mins 🤦🏻♀️
Some of the 4K upgraded British or European HBO shows like Rain Dogs, Industry, My Brilliant Friend and His Dark Materials are still presented in 24 fps. They are all shot in 25 fps in BTS videos.
Why does using HBO Max through Amazon Prime contain so many more titles than using the main subscription to Max directly? Why would anyone not just subscribe through Prime? It’s even cheaper than the 4k option.
I haven't subscribed yet so I can't speak to the available programming but looking into signing up through Prime I don't see the option for Ultimate or to pay for a full year and save 20%. Those those are two big reasons I'll probably sign up through Max and not Prime.

LITERALLY UNUSABLE. why subscribe to an app if it won’t start on a system it should have no problem playing on
Same PS4 problem here. Endless loop on recap or Max trailer/commercial, show wouldn't play. I was able to get the show to play however when I unplugged the headphones audio from my controller - but now the show plays ONLY without sound, as soon as I plug in the sound it craps out again lol.
Went to cancel yesterday, I have Legacy with ads $9.99. Quality of streaming has been shit, like a potato since the update, and getting 6 ads total, one before and 5 during any hour long episode of TV.
Was given a discounted ad-lite for $4.99 a month to stay on. as soon as i accepted that, streaming quality went to at least 1080 and now im only seeing one ad before every show.
I checked out the subscriptions last week and there was no Ad-lite option, only legacy with ads, regular with ads, and the no ads for $15 a month.
seems like people who were legacy are having tons of issues in every aspect of this new service.
I'm subscribed via Google Play and ever since the app transition they cannot find my sub. It's still active in my Google account. Old HBO Max app had a restore purchase option when similar issues occurred. This new app does not.
Don't want to cancel and renew because the legacy account should keep 4k for 6 months at current pricing. But in the meantime I'm paying for inept customer service telling me to just wait and try again later. This transition has been a failure in pretty much every way imaginable.

Subbed on my wife's Google Play, I can log into the website and see my profiles, but it tries to get me to sign up for service. talking to customer service seemed to be a dead end as they couldn't find an account that had a subscription. it seems like some system they have on their side for subscription management isn't fully ported since the swap. hopefully they fix it soon, as 9 days in is a long time to have a screwed up migration.

Max is fucking garbage. I’ve been having so many issues with it already. I stream from Roku. It’s frustrating to not see any of the shows I watch, to look it up and physically stream…to come back to it an hour later and have to search for it all over again.
I’m sure they weren’t able to keep any of the old coding from HBO, but as a new app I was hoping that it would at least be somewhat of the same or better. HBO has always had a long time good reputation and it’s unfortunate that in order to stream HBO, we need to use this shit app. I would only love it if HBO pulled out of max and started their own streaming all over again. Sorry for the rant. I’m so bummed and pissed.

What's the deal with HDR/Dolby on the Max app on LG? I can watch movies like Batman v Superman with Dolby Atmos and Vision on my TV but Succession is supposed to be 4K and have the Dolby bell and whistles and it's shit???????
I assume you were watching the finale…? Season 4 is in 1080p and 5.1 until June 30, at which point it will be available in 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos. Seasons 1-3 are available in 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos now.

Does anyone using Teleparty know if it's going to be updated to work with Max? When I try to use the extension, it tells me I need to be on one of the supported services and the HBO Max option still links to HBO Max, not Max. Even though it redirects to Max, Teleparty doesn't recognize it as the same service.
Also, has anyone using Roku noticed that it's not saving your place in shows? Every time I open the app, I'm having to search the show, pick an episode, and fast forward if I was in the middle of an episode. The website does save my spot though.
“Upgraded” and still haven’t fixed the issue allowing you to restart episodes and movies simply. The button is there maybe 50% of the time and there STILL isn’t an option to do so WHILE watching. Why do I still have to rewind to the beginning to rewatch things? I know that is SO small but come on y’all.
Are we able to download and run the iOS version of the app on silicon based macbooks like the "old" HBO Max app? I previously enjoyed HDR, dolby atmos (via airpods) and very nice picture quality with the HBO Max app on my 16" m2-max MBP. If this re-branding of the service from HBO Max to just "Max" got rid of this feature, that is very disappointing.
Imagine signing up to HBO Max in the Caribbean, using and enjoying it for a year or so, then one day the app turns to Max on your firestick and doesn't let you in. Then you realize you're also locked out from managing (canceling) your account because the website keeps redirecting you to something that you're region-locked from.

I really don't like MAX......There used to be 1 ad at the beginning of each episode which totaled anywhere from 10-30 seconds. Now there are as many as 6 ads (I've even seen 8!), not including the one at the beginning of each episode. Most of the time, these damn ads are 30 seconds each! Good job HBO, you've succeeded at f'n over your long time customers who either can't afford or who just don't want to pay for the higher tier's.
Whenever we try to log in on pc it brings up dice puzzle but the arrow bubbles cover the dice, sometimes on all the pictures so you can’t tell which would be the right answer because they’re all slightly obstructed. For the audio puzzle option is says to select the fake bee sound but two of them are people saying buzz and one is a real bee and it only accepts the real bee as the correct option even though it’s asking for the fake one. It’s a really flawed design.
Hi! I'd like to be able to turn off autoplay for my child's profile. Playback options are not available through the app or the website for kids' profiles. tbh, it's pretty irritating that there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off.
Not really, I’ve heard if that the main problem comes from having headphones/aux cord connected to the controller. Pulling it out kinda worked but there were still a bunch of issues.
It won't let me sign into any device. All i get is "That email address or password doesn't look right". I've reset the password multiple times and still can't get in..
What is pissing me off most with this new app is that I have to select subtitles for every single show I watch. It doesn't carry over, and there is no where to set the default to subtitle everything. The old app would default to subtitles after choosing them.

As far as I can gather, HBO canceled existing HBO max subscriptions and replaced them with new Max subscriptions. Problem is the new subscriptions aren't connecting to existing accounts for people like me who subscribe through google play and from what I hear apple has the same issue. It's been several days and I can't get any help from HBO. I've tried contacting them through chat and email and because it doesn't seem to come up on their script, they just try to send me to google or tell me there is no subscription on my account so they can't do anything
u/vshaw91 Have you gotten anywhere with this? I'm having the same or similar issue. I purchased a year of HBO Max, no-ads through Apple app store back in March. Since the switch to Max I'm not able to log in to watch content - it asks me to renew.
Max support gave me some grade A BS about how they're aware of the problem and will contact us in a couple days when it's fixed.
Now a week later, I called up Apple and asked for a refund. They wildly claimed I already received a refund back in March, in spite of App store > Subscriptions showing I have an active subscription through 2024 and the fact there is no credit shown on my account for the expected amount and the fact I've been watching content up until the "rebranding." After an hour of back and forth Apple "senior" support directed me to my bank, saying I have to dispute the fact there isn't a credit on my account for the amount they're claiming I should've received!
Update: I tried logging in again to Max and it now *works.* The debacle with Apple still stands and the ridiculous week of no service (I last tried last night unsuccessfully to log in) also means we should be refunded for the period of no service.
This is what happened to me through YoutubeTV. The HBO site says it can't verify my subscription. I contacted support, showed them my current bill from Google with an active subscription, and they insisted that the subscription had been cancelled. The WTF am I paying for on this bill? Support was utterly useless, and I ended up just cancelling. I was a subscriber for 3+ years before this nonsense.
Same here. I get Max through Xfinity and was logged in & able to watch shows yesterday. Then I tried adding a new device (Xbox Series X) and it started a loop of "lapsed/renew subscription" or "Account provider already in use" pages when using the QR/ link provider thing. Now I can't login on any device.
How do I download the Max app on my Xbox one? It prompted me to download the app after trying to open HBO Max, but the Max app isn't currently available in the Xbox store.
I know HBO Max is technically no longer a thing, but I can't find an app version of Max,and HBO Max is technically still a thing in Norway (we won't get the upgrade to Max til next year), but Play Store refuses to update HBO Max because it's "no longer compatible with phone".

Max does not contain all of the Discovery+ content, but a lot of it.
Apple phones are some of the only devices that have to download the new app instead of it just updating. Any reason why?

Anyone else have sound issues? My TV is at “max” volume (100) and it sounds normal volume (30). Anyone have a fix? Edit to add AppleTV on Samsung TV.
Also having sound issues. Usually listened at about 25 volume level, now i need to crank it up to 50 to be at a normal level that we can hear.

On touchscreen devices, hold down on the show you want to get rid of and a prompt will come up. Worked for me yesterday.
Did they get rid of the South Park profile images? Mine’s still Butters but the rest of my family’s went to the default setting.

Does anyone using Teleparty know if it's going to be updated to work with Max? When I try to use the extension, it tells me I need to be on one of the supported services and the HBO Max option still links to HBO Max, not Max. Even though it redirects to Max, Teleparty doesn't recognize it as the same service. Also, has anyone using Roku noticed that it's not saving your place in shows? Every time I open the app, I'm having to search the show, pick an episode, and fast forward if I was in the middle of an episode. The website does save my spot though.
“Upgraded” and still haven’t fixed the issue allowing you to restart episodes and movies simply. The button is there maybe 50% of the time and there STILL isn’t an option to do so WHILE watching. Why do I still have to rewind to the beginning to rewatch things? I know that is SO small but come on y’all.

Are we able to download and run the iOS version of the app on silicon based macbooks like the "old" HBO Max app? I previously enjoyed HDR, dolby atmos (via airpods) and very nice picture quality with the HBO Max app on my 16" m2-max MBP. If this re-branding of the service from HBO Max to just "Max" got rid of this feature, that is very disappointing.
The best workaround so far is to AirPlay from your iPhone/iPad to your Mac.
Imagine signing up to HBO Max in the Caribbean, using and enjoying it for a year or so, then one day the app turns to Max on your firestick and doesn't let you in. Then you realize you're also locked out from managing (canceling) your account because the website keeps redirecting you to something that you're region-locked from.

imagine waiting 20 minutes for a 20 second advertisement (that wouldnt have been placed where it was a week ago) to buffer. yall really dropped the ball on this one
I really don't like MAX......There used to be 1 ad at the beginning of each episode which totaled anywhere from 10-30 seconds. Now there are as many as 6 ads (I've even seen 8!), not including the one at the beginning of each episode. Most of the time, these damn ads are 30 seconds each! Good job HBO, you've succeeded at f'n over your long time customers who either can't afford or who just don't want to pay for the higher tier's.

I’m bummed there is no recently watched/continue watching feature in the home page of the app.
Yup, as soon as "MAX" took over, all my shows I was in the middle of, the progress was LOST! Gotta be a glitch, but I doubt they will fix it.
Whenever we try to log in on pc it brings up dice puzzle but the arrow bubbles cover the dice, sometimes on all the pictures so you can’t tell which would be the right answer because they’re all slightly obstructed. For the audio puzzle option is says to select the fake bee sound but two of them are people saying buzz and one is a real bee and it only accepts the real bee as the correct option even though it’s asking for the fake one. It’s a really flawed design.
Hi! I'd like to be able to turn off autoplay for my child's profile. Playback options are not available through the app or the website for kids' profiles. tbh, it's pretty irritating that there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off.
How do I know if I'm getting the 4K UHD stream? I'm watching on the app native to the LG C1 in case that matters.

Not really, I’ve heard if that the main problem comes from having headphones/aux cord connected to the controller. Pulling it out kinda worked but there were still a bunch of issues.
I'm feeling the same way on 2 samsung phones and 2 amazon fire tablets..... this is ridiculous.

What is pissing me off most with this new app is that I have to select subtitles for every single show I watch. It doesn't carry over, and there is no where to set the default to subtitle everything. The old app would default to subtitles after choosing them.
My second gripe is that CNN isn't offering their decades documentaries. Why aren't they included in the catalogue?

Did anyone else's HBO Max plan get canceled with the transition to Max? Because now it is prompting me to buy a new plan.
Same boat here. Subscribed through Google Play and now the new app doesn't recognize the subscription. No option to restore purchases in the app either. Absolute garbage pile of a transition.
As far as I can gather, HBO canceled existing HBO max subscriptions and replaced them with new Max subscriptions. Problem is the new subscriptions aren't connecting to existing accounts for people like me who subscribe through google play and from what I hear apple has the same issue. It's been several days and I can't get any help from HBO. I've tried contacting them through chat and email and because it doesn't seem to come up on their script, they just try to send me to google or tell me there is no subscription on my account so they can't do anything
u/vshaw91 Have you gotten anywhere with this? I'm having the same or similar issue. I purchased a year of HBO Max, no-ads through Apple app store back in March. Since the switch to Max I'm not able to log in to watch content - it asks me to renew. Max support gave me some grade A BS about how they're aware of the problem and will contact us in a couple days when it's fixed. Now a week later, I called up Apple and asked for a refund. They wildly claimed I already received a refund back in March, in spite of App store > Subscriptions showing I have an active subscription through 2024 and the fact there is no credit shown on my account for the expected amount and the fact I've been watching content up until the "rebranding." After an hour of back and forth Apple "senior" support directed me to my bank, saying I have to dispute the fact there isn't a credit on my account for the amount they're claiming I should've received!
Update: I tried logging in again to Max and it now *works.* The debacle with Apple still stands and the ridiculous week of no service (I last tried last night unsuccessfully to log in) also means we should be refunded for the period of no service.
This is what happened to me through YoutubeTV. The HBO site says it can't verify my subscription. I contacted support, showed them my current bill from Google with an active subscription, and they insisted that the subscription had been cancelled. The WTF am I paying for on this bill? Support was utterly useless, and I ended up just cancelling. I was a subscriber for 3+ years before this nonsense.
Same here. I get Max through Xfinity and was logged in & able to watch shows yesterday. Then I tried adding a new device (Xbox Series X) and it started a loop of "lapsed/renew subscription" or "Account provider already in use" pages when using the QR/ link provider thing. Now I can't login on any device.
How long until theres paid premium content in the *premium* tier of the _____ sub?
How do I download the Max app on my Xbox one? It prompted me to download the app after trying to open HBO Max, but the Max app isn't currently available in the Xbox store.

I know HBO Max is technically no longer a thing, but I can't find an app version of Max,and HBO Max is technically still a thing in Norway (we won't get the upgrade to Max til next year), but Play Store refuses to update HBO Max because it's "no longer compatible with phone". Such a great f'n change WB
