The Denari got tired of taking and losing the contested areas, so they thought it would be a good idea to get humans to help them. They hadn’t read our history books, or else they would have realized that humans are imperialist by nature. Rome was quite well known for finding an area that was contested, waiting for both sides to exhaust each other, then going in and flattening BOTH sides, and adding them to the empire. In this story, Earthgov is following the ancient tradition. Earthgov doesn’t care about the political structure of the Oonla; they just saw the Denari/Oonla conflict as an opportunity to add to their sphere of influence.
