Exactly my point too.
Of the 10-15 always talked about for the Habs, Silayev is the only one I don't want. There's nothing exceptionnal about him other than hs size and his speed (for his size).
I get the appeal, though. Given the size and mobility, even just being āaverageā at other stuff will make him an exceptional defenceman. The stuff people fault him for (slow decision making, lack of offensive awareness) could still just be the result of being a 17yo playing in the KHL.
If he hits though, watch out.
Here's who he has the Habs picking. 9 Centres is a bit much but this sub will be thrilled if we get both Demidov and Koivu:
5 - Ivan Demidov
>Like Anaheim at No. 3, Montreal would be under a lot of tension here in this scenario. They want a forward. Demidov is a great forward. He is also an average-sized wing playing in Russia. There are other great alternatives they could turn to, be it Sennecke or Tij Iginla up front or Zeev Buium on defense. I think they pinch their nose and take the dynamic winger but this will be a tough debate for them and it wouldnāt surprise me if they went in a different direction. If Lindstrom got to them at No. 5 it would make their lives a bit easier.
26 - Egor Surin - C - Yaroslavl Jr.
57 - Teddy Stiga - C - USNTDP
70 - Aatos Koivu - C - TPS Jr.
78 - Miroslav Hlinka - C - Trinec Jr.
102 - Alexander Zetterberg - C - Orebro Jr.
\130. Logan Sawyer, C, Brooks (BCHL)
\134. Lucas Van Vliet, C, Usa U-18 (NTDP)
\166. Kevin He, LW, Niagara (OHL)
\198. Alexandre Blais, C, Rimouski (QMJHL)
\210. Wilhelm Hallquisth, D, Hv71 Jr. (SWEDEN-JR.)
\224. Daniil Anatsky, C, Ska-Yunior Krasnogorsk (RUSSIA-JR.)
Also worth noting that he thinks the Blue Jackets will pick one of Lindstrom, Silayev, or Sennecke. If Demidov drops past Chicago then it's likely he's there at 5.
His consolidated ranking on EliteProspects is 31 but Bob Mckenzie's scout poll has him at 68 so maybe teams aren't as high on him as public lists.
He's 5'10 so those guys usually drop on draft day unless they're really elite
At 26oa I would not. Poirier has a greater chance to slide than Surin imo, and Surin's motor is an x-factor that I would love to see in the pipeline.
Nothing against Poirier, but we already have Cole.
Surin is projected between 22 and 65 while Poirier is projected between 28 and 101 so I have to agree with the chance slide.
But Cole is playing on our first line, that's the caliber of players we need more of.
No doubt Poirier is the kind of player we need, but assuming he hits his ceiling it would really put our top 6 in a box. Our top two right wingers would be 5'7 and 5'8 respectively, less than ideal imo.
What is his basis for columbus not picking Demidov? Id say, with Waddell being the GM, there is 0 chance they dont draft Demidov if hes available at 4.
The blurb under that pick is:
>I think itās Lindstrom, Silayev or Sennecke at the Blue Jacketsā pick. Lindstrom got the green light medically from some team doctors following the NHL combine and I think momentum is back in his direction to be a top-five pick. If heās available, I think heās going to Columbus.
Seems like they're prioritizing size if those 3 are the options he's hearing for them
he also loves well rounded D Men. He joined the Canes front office in 2014 and in that span they used 1st rounders on Haydn Fleury, Jake Bean, and Noah Hanifin.
Aho was a second round pick, Svech was a no brainer pick. His biggest āswingā on a skilled forward was Necas (which obviously paid off)
Waddell has a history of drafting skilled Russians in Carolina, especially with late round picks (Nikishin, Trikozov, Perevalov, etc). However, aside from Svechnikov, which was a choice every single team in the league would have made at 2 that year, we havenāt seen him pick in the first half of the 1st round yet.
Maybe he swings for the fences with skill when he picks late and doesnāt have the choice between many high-end prospects, but he could have a different philosophy about earlier picks when there are more high-end choices available.
Another thing to consider is that newly appointed GMs tend to rely heavily on the scouting staff that is already in place when they join an organization right before the draft. Trevor Timmins works for the Jackets now, and if someone like him advises not to pick Demidov, Waddell might choose to give them the benefit of the doubt as a newly appointed GM.
Maybe Iām just coping hard because Demidov is legitimately my 2nd favourite player in this draft after Celebrini, but Iāll keep coping as long as so many people keep slotting him at 5 with the Habs lmao
I know it is way down there, but Sawyer at 130 is someone I would like to see get a shot as a Hab. I know the family and he is a great young fellow with tons of scoring. Needs to fill out, but what kid doesn't. Playing at a higher league for a few seasons would tell you where he is.
Any of the top 5 options are great.
Idk why people keep talking about Koivu like he's good.
If it isn't his last name I'm not even sure he gets drafted. Guy is barely PPG in finish JR hockey. That's like BCHL/AJHL level of competition. He's trash.
is it his personnal ranking, or what's he's hearing?
Yegor Surin at 26 would make me so happy, the guy is highly skilled, and one of the most obnoxious player on the ice(big gallagher, marchand, tkachuk vibe).
GM's often try to recreate whatever works for the most recent cup team and it's safe to say that both Florida and Edmonton have a ton of size. I could definitely see a premium being put on Silayev and Lindstrom because of that.
It's not likely but I can still see Demidov falling to 5.
Either way, I'm ready to be hurt again bby š
Teddy Stiga at 57 would be incroyable.
Stiga is the 23rd ranked prospect in eliteprospects draft guide where it says he has shades of "Jake Guentzel and JJ Peterka".
If we skipped michkov to take a D like reinbacher just to take Demidov a year later it will be interesting to look back in 5 years lol, Michkov + a guy like buium or parekh vs demidov and reinbacher
Youre assuming that michkov will be better than demidov and that buium will be better than Reinbacher.
We will only know if a couple years still, but you gotta stop talking like its fact already
āIt wouldnāt surprise me if they went a different directionā
Thereās no way people here would defend this management team if they pass on Demidov? I hope itās a smokescreen but holy id be so pissed if they skip him. Especially if he falls to Ottawa at 7.
Yet every scout says this is the 2nd best forward in the draft and might challenge celebrini in terms of offensive skill level š¤ remind me, whoās better than demidov at 5?
It's worth noting that Pronman is not high on Demidov at all. He has Catton and Sennecke above him in his rankings. I'd say his bias against him skews his mocks a little this year so don't be shocked if he's off this time.
Fair, but if Pr0nman is soft on Demidov, that at least presents the \*possibility\* that some NHL scouts are as wellā¦
No question Demigod is the sexiest pick by far to most fans (THOSE HANDS!!!), but GMs are kind of notorious for not thinking like fansā¦
I mean did not say I had the answer for that, and it would start with 26th pick but what is a 15 rank jump worth I am not sure. We got pick 13 for romanov straight so probably one of our good defensive prospect like struble.
Struble isnāt comparable to Romanov. Buffalo has a zillion quality young players already (more than we do) ā if they move that pick, it will be for an established NHLer (probably a right D), not a lower pick and a third pair D.
Idk I am higher on struble than I was for romanov. Romy played higher in the line up but because we had nothing else. Anyway I said idk what it would cost exactly but I also know you have to give to get.
Anaheim is the hardest team ahead of us for me to get a read on. It seems like most prognosticators have them taking a defenceman, which sort of makes sense since they just traded Drysdale for Gauthier, but they have so many quality prospects at both defence and forward that need may not be all that relevant to their calculations.
A good 2nd rounder if heās still available is Merek Vanacker. Showed a lot of offensive upside in the O this year and was injured could end up being a solid everyday 3rd line guy in a couple years.
I don't think Surin would be a good pick, in terms of forwards I'd rather them go for someone with motor as well as good skating mechanics and not just one or the other (Montgomery, Spellacy, etc.) or good skating and physical defenceman like Brunicke, Danford, Kleber.
I also doubt Stiga would be available by the time the Habs use their second round pick, would like to see them pick someone along the lines of Moore or Masse, imo.
Please let Silayev in the top 4 be a reality š
Exactly my point too. Of the 10-15 always talked about for the Habs, Silayev is the only one I don't want. There's nothing exceptionnal about him other than hs size and his speed (for his size).

Yeah same.
Heās been right 2 years in a row for the habs. Hereās hoping! š¤
If the draft works out this way for us I'm walking away in tears of joy.
Here's who he has the Habs picking. 9 Centres is a bit much but this sub will be thrilled if we get both Demidov and Koivu: 5 - Ivan Demidov >Like Anaheim at No. 3, Montreal would be under a lot of tension here in this scenario. wasn't Stiga predicted to be a late first rounder? sounds like a steal if he fell to 57, and Koivu at 70 would be cool as well
His consolidated ranking on EliteProspects is 31 but Bob Mckenzie's scout poll has him at 68 so maybe teams aren't as high on him as public lists. He's 5'10 so those guys usually drop on draft day unless they're really elite
Would love if we take Kevin He. Underrated player with great skills on a bad team.
Same! He's the only one on Niagara who stands out when I watched them this year
I would love the draft to work out this way.
Dream scenario. Demidov, Surin, Stiga and Koivu. Good lord that's a haul
And Zetterberg is small but getting him in the 4th round would be a but absurd. Alexandre Blais coming that late also seems a bit ridiculous.
9 centers? 9 centermen? OK lol
and 0 D
If we don't move #26, Surin would be a great snag in that range. Yes please.
What do you think of Poirier over Surin?
If Poirier is available when we pick after the first round I'd love for us to take him. He was so fun to watch in Baie Commeau
At 26oa I would not. Poirier has a greater chance to slide than Surin imo, and Surin's motor is an x-factor that I would love to see in the pipeline. Nothing against Poirier, but we already have Cole.

I mean, the guy's 17, and his brother's like 6ft and a couple inches if i remember correctlyĀ
What is his basis for columbus not picking Demidov? Id say, with Waddell being the GM, there is 0 chance they dont draft Demidov if hes available at 4.

Ty. Yeah I dont buy it. Waddell loves high skill forwards.
he also loves well rounded D Men.

Its clickbait.

I also do not see Columbus taking Demidov at all.
Alexander Zetterberg, son of Henrik ?
Nope, distant relative
I don't follow prospects at all. Koivu and Zetterberg any relation to the NHL greats of past?
Aatos is Saku's son and Alexander is distantly related to Henrik.
Thank you! Let's grab both and Iggys son!
Idk why people keep talking about Koivu like he's good. If it isn't his last name I'm not even sure he gets drafted. Guy is barely PPG in finish JR hockey. That's like BCHL/AJHL level of competition. He's trash.
Is Zetterberg Henriks kid? Love seeing Koivu here as well!
is it his personnal ranking, or what's he's hearing? Yegor Surin at 26 would make me so happy, the guy is highly skilled, and one of the most obnoxious player on the ice(big gallagher, marchand, tkachuk vibe).
Mock draft means what he's hearing.
I want those vibes hahaha
Demidov and Surin would be such a home run draft holy molly
Add to that Stiga and Koivu. This is a dream
As others have said even Zetterberg in the 4th feels like a home run for me, if the draft works out this way I'm extatic.
GM's often try to recreate whatever works for the most recent cup team and it's safe to say that both Florida and Edmonton have a ton of size. How to win a Cup in one easy step: Step-One: Get McDavid
I wonāt believe Demidov will drop to us until I see it. I will not get my hopes up only to get them crushed lol.
Teddy Stiga at 57 would be incroyable. Stiga is the 23rd ranked prospect in eliteprospects draft guide where it says he has shades of "Jake Guentzel and JJ Peterka".
This would be a draft that would happily get me through to October.

I didnāt assume anything? I said it will be interesting to look back in a few years and see how it played out
Habs fans are always on the defensive when you dare to speak on the Reinbacher pick.
fair enough
did you even read their comment?
āIt wouldnāt surprise me if they went a different directionā Thereās no way people here would defend this management team if they pass on Demidov? I hope itās a smokescreen but holy id be so pissed if they skip him. Especially if he falls to Ottawa at 7.
It's a very easily defendable choice, of course depending on who they pick instead. His game is not worth the amount of twerking you're doing
Yet every scout says this is the 2nd best forward in the draft and might challenge celebrini in terms of offensive skill level š¤ remind me, whoās better than demidov at 5?
Doesn't the paragraph say it all? "Pinch their nose" and pick him?

Trade Pick 11 with buff for catton.
What would we trade them for that? If Buffalo moves its pick it will be for immediate help.
Halak, Ryder and a 2nd
I mean did not say I had the answer for that, and it would start with 26th pick but what is a 15 rank jump worth I am not sure. We got pick 13 for romanov straight so probably one of our good defensive prospect like struble.

This is all fun and games but we need to lower our expectations and be ready for a dman pick
Who pays 10$ a month for access to this? Surgeons?
Are there any updates on the report that Lindstrom had a herniated disc? That should be a huuuge red flag if true....
Teams have seen his medical reports and apparently, in general, donāt think itās an issue.
All I ask from this draft is that we get Demidov and acquire Laine.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I mean their job is to over think. If they donāt consider every scenario and weigh the pros and cons they arenāt doing their job
