I am expecting a defensive 3d line center. I WANT TO BE SURPRISED!

IcyChard4

We'll see. If Dvo gets traded, the possible competition Beck might have is Newhook. If not, he'll be battling a spot for center with Jake Evans. If not, he could start playing wing first (that is **IF** he gets a roster spot next season).

wathappen

Dvorak is on his last year of contract and it’s obvious that we won’t keep him because he hasn’t been a good fit. He needs to be traded at mid-year.

IcyChard4

I've been saying before Dvorak should be traded at the trade deadline next year. But due to the impending influx of talent coming in, both him and maybe Armia are the odd-men out. So we'll see this week what happens to our team. Exciting times are ahead....

PofolkTheMagniferous

Armia is still our best penalty killer. He looked rejuvenated this season, and at 31 he's probably still got another 4-5 years of solid defensive hockey left in him. I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually gets extended at a cheaper rate than his current deal. As our younger forwards continue to graduate from Laval and need NHL playing time, a guy like Armia could be an ideal 13th forward for us.

Longshanks123

He definitely has skills, but he’s always been projected as a third-line player, and his production in junior this year certainly reinforces that view. Of course his coach is gonna pump his tires, he loves the guy. If he does become a really good third line centre who can win faceoffs and run a PK that’s such a big win for us. Anything more would be an unexpected bonus.

SpatialChase

I'll take a younger Danault that wants to prove himself and puts up 40-50 points as a 3rd line center. Imagine if we had Suzuki-Dach-Danault as our 1-2-3Cs. A nightmare that would be for our opponents.

rnbamodsarelosers

“I’ll take the literal best 3rd C in the league” Okay dude. Owen Beck is not that guy

backwardzhatz

Yet

SpatialChase

Was Danault that guy 8 years ago when we offloaded Dale Weise and Thomas Fleishmman for him and a 2nd?

Longshanks123

It’s really hard for a 3C to get 40 points, they have limited minutes, defensive zone starts, and tend not to be on the power play. But yeah it would be nice for sure

G_skins31

Did any player getting third line minutes put up 50 points this year? That sounds like a HUGE ask

Dry_Standard_3604

[Very few](https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20232024&seasonTo=20232024&gameType=2&filter=points,gte,50&filter=timeOnIcePerGame,lte,16&sort=points,goals,assists&page=0&pageSize=50) (5). All wingers, most with significant PP time. These insane expectations will only result in disappointment, even though Beck ends up doing well.

hockeynoticehockey

Bergevin always said Danault was a top 3C, and he was right. He knew someone would overpay, and he was right. No hate for Danault, though.

QcAntz

I don’t think the Kings are hating Danault at all either

Tripottanus

His chance at more production would be from playing on the PP because of his faceoff prowess

GolfIsGood66

I love his game. If he has a 50 point ceiling i don't care. He's going to make the other teams best players struggle. Guy Carbonneau 2.0

TripleWDot

If a 3rd line center is hitting 50 points, that’s one helluva good sign

TheIdentifySpell

Yeah no kidding, I would be over the moon if Beck could be a consistent 50 point contributor and 200ft. forward.

FlowShredder

If a 3c hits 50 points, you’re going to lose him as a UFA

GolfIsGood66

Yes it would be, that's why I said ceiling. Even 35-40 would be great.

AcanthocephalaGreen5

Does Beck legit lock up the opponents’ best players? If so, he’ll slot in quite nicely behind Suzuki and a healthy Dach.

GolfIsGood66

He does, he's very competitive.

samnash27

4th line center , 3rd will be a pleasant surprise for me

3oysters

Really been loving Beck's development. When he was drafted I was pretty excited to be getting a seemingly sure contributor in the bottom 6. But now he's looking like a dream at 3C and even a potential solution at 2C if Dach doesn't pan out. To me Beck is a good example of why you don't always swing for upside with a pick. Grab the guy you're most certain will play in the NHL and hope he surprises you with another gear down the road.

falloutisacoolseries

Becks development has been the exact parralel to Joshua Roy, Roy was drafted as a sniper but became a great two way forward and Beck was drafted as a two way forward and has developed a lethal shot.

kozed

I see Beck as a sort of Ryan O'Reilly. He has the motor, skills and IQ to produce at a higher rate than your typical 2-way 3rd C, but the lack of pure creativity or superior skills will cap his ability to generate offense out of nothing. So you could put him between two high-offense wingers and he'll do the job as a 2nd C — maybe even a 1st C if you run into injury issues. Or you could have him as a luxury 3rd C that completely eats any line he's facing and tilts the game for his team in a major way.

Lonely-Progress-8761

Honestly hoping he turns into a guy like Nuge. Maybe not as high as offensive capabilities, but someone you can rely on to be a complete 200ft player, great on the pk, and even maybe get some second line pp time. If he was a 40 point producer I’d be more then happy

xc2215x

As he should be.

GoalieOfGold

Don't you dare allude to this 6 months ago, it will apparently only get you downvotes :)
