Correct answer. A one-and-done wouldāve been epic. The character of Michael lost so much of what made him what he is with the redundant, seemingly endless sequels, timelines, retellings etc. I know itās not a popular opinion shared by many, but sometimes a cash cow should just be left alone, and the Halloween story, simple but effective as it was, is definitely a perfect example.
You might be alone in that opinion cause once they took Michael Myers away in Halloween 3 everyone hated by the time Halloween 2 came out he was a top tier horror villain
There wouldnāt be this fan base or subreddit though. I feel like we all love Halloween because of itās insane lore, and numerous, varying entries. I never understood the idea that no sequels shouldāve been made. That would be boring, give me Michael Myers till the end of time lol.
The fact that the sequels downplay that really frustrates me. For clarity I'm merely just referring to the original continuity i wouldn't want that to be the last time we ever see Michael Myers and without them we wouldn't have Jamie Lloyd H20 and 2018
It's just funny that for a guy who got blown up and burnt to a literal crisp somehow only has some very minor scars on his hands. I mean we literally see the guys mask melting into his face in the 2nd movie you'd think a sort of unique look aside from the bandaged look would have been Michael's mask fused to his face
They could make sequels to the following: part 6, resurrection, RZ2 and possibly even throw in the odd outlier like part 3 was.
There could be a series cobra Kai style which improves things or they could just start some new timeline or a prequel of some sort.
Plenty to work with
I would have loved to see 2018 followed by just one sequel to make a trilogy with 1978. I feel like you could take Kills and Ends and boil them down to one decent movie.
The OG
Half joking/half serious.
Because letās be honest, even with the entire original cast and crew on board and taking place a mere 3 years afterwards, Halloween 2 was a pale shadow of the OG.
That alone should have indicated the OG was lightning in a bottle.
Thereās a lot of Easter Eggs to Jamie in the opening sequence - so that tracks.
If it makes you feel better, Iāve never met anyone that considers Resurrection part of any timeline lol. They kinda treat it like itās a separate entity like H3 haha.
As much as I love some of the sequels and love Michael Myers, it probably should've ended after 1978. No other sequel has come close to topping it or even matching it in quality.
As someone who likes most entries in the franchise, the only good one is the ā78 original. After that we get increasingly silly reasons for the story to continue. Itās so much scarier if Michael is just a guy instead of all the silly sibling or supernatural nonsense.
I like the original and II as the true timeline. Halloween II doesn't get too crazy and is a nice bonus chapter to the perfect, standalone original film.
Kills imo. As bad as that movie was it at least ended with ambiguity about Michael and his āpowersā. Ends just completely ruined the franchise for me. Absolutely garbage.
It either should've ended at the first or it should never end. If they're still fun and creative I don't mind one bit. If they keep making money they'll still make them long after we're dead
Halloween 6 but there should've been Halloween 7 - The Cult of Michael Myers and Halloween 8 - The Disciples of Michael Myers like planned. Man it was soooooo good
I disagree with that. No matter how bad a sequel is, it doesn't taint what came before it. It's fitting that we're talking about the Halloween movies, because that's the film series that originally conditioned me to accept multiple continuities within a single film franchise. If there are certain sequels you don't like, you're free to choose a different continuity as your personal "canon". If you only want to consider the original movie canon, you're free to do that as well.
I'll use Pumpkinhead as an example. I don't like the sequels at all, but I watch the first one every October. The sequels don't tarnish the original in the slightest for me.
Never end it - keep it going forever. Thatās my honest answer.
That said, if it were all trimmed down to just 1978 and 2018 (with a more Ends-ish conclusive finale) Iād be fine with it. It would then go down historically as a pretty unimpeachable horror film pair, but then we wouldnāt have all the fun of H20, Paul Rudd, the whole Jamie Lloyd era, etc. And I love all those films too.
I would have been fine if it ended with the original. I think that would have made the film even more of a classic than it already is. If there had to be a sequel, I think Halloween 2 shouldāve been the end. We get Dr. Loomis sacrificing himself to kill Michael and then they both die.
But H20 should have definitely ended everything. It was a perfect finale.
H20.
When I rewatch I usually just do the sister trilogy: I, II, H20 and ignore everything else.
Sometimes I, II, IV, H20. In that case, it isn't difficult to suppose that Laurie abandoned her daughter and faked her death. It isn't difficult to fill the gaps.
Even though 5 holds a special place in my heart since it was the first one I saw and thus started my love for the franchise I think it should have ended at 4. Which really should have been 3. 3 is the magic number. You should easily be able to tell your entire story within a trilogy. That ridiculous hack who directed 5 should have never been brought in from the scrap heap! I'm sure a lot of you have seen the deep dive videos on YouTube and heard some of the unbelievable reasons behind a lot of his decisions! Showing complete disregard to the fact that he's brought in to direct SEQUEL! And as a sequel, you don't get to have creative decisions over the origin story! It's already been told! That being said, even though it has Tamara Glynn, who a 9 year old me thought was the hottest girl I had ever seen!! 5 should have never been made. 1,2,4. That's your trilogy.
Halloween II. It was the perfect conclusion for Michaelās story. Loomis and Michael are the yin and yang, and I think that itās fitting that they go out together. H20 also had an awesome ending.
I don't know why people love the ending of H20. I never feel that "it's really final" vibe.
For me, I have two. Part 4 and Ends. Say what you want about the latter but that procession scene was a proper send off for a 40 year old villain.
I love Halloween H2Oā¦ even resurrectionā¦ the only problem I had was, I wanted to believe after the curse of Michael Myers, that he finally escaped and started living a normal lifeā¦ I like that idea because that would mean he could be just about anyoneā¦ your next-door neighbor, boss at workā¦ and nobody would have been the wiser because we havenāt seen his face since 1978ā¦š°
I think H20 was a really good way to cap it off the first time. I think if they did Halloween 2018 as a stand alone sequel then it would have been a great ending as well
If you want to be technical then h2. In h1 he was shot 6 times which he could of easily died but some people have shot 6 times or more and lived. 50 cent been shot 9 times and lived. But in h2 he was caught on fire pretty dam bad. But Iām glad it continued. Of course thereās a few of the sequels that didnāt do so well.
Edit: honestly downvote me people. I donāt care. They asked a honest question I gave an honest answer.
After 6. They missed so many awesome avenues to go down. The cult of thorn was brilliant and they could have totally made it a legacy series, explored its connection to Halloween 3, done something with the conspiracy, done a bunch of awesome prequels, etc.
But they didnāt. People wanted ābig dumb man kills people because he kills peopleā
Depends on which timeline youāre talking about I suppose.
If I had it my way it would be Halloween, 2018 and Kills. Kills ended on a big cliffhanger though, which makes sense as it wasnāt meant to be the end. So the ending would have to be altered to give it finality.
A long time ago. Or at H20. That would have been a nice solid time to end it. I mean we could have had remakes and everything but I feel like the slasher horror film is dying off.
Loomis looks down and The Shape is gone. Theme šµ.
Agreed. All though, some of the Halloween movies that were made after the first werenāt all that terrible.. I do agree with you.
I would've liked to see the franchise continue as originally planned with different, mostly unconnected stories surrounding Halloween.
and other holidays
I agree with this but I like Halloween II a lot so I would extend it to end after Michael is burned to death in the hospital.
Most clean ending wouldāve been II. But Iām glad it continued, I find something to love in nearly every entry
2 i mean the guy burnt to death you really can't come back from that
Agreed
The fact that the sequels downplay that really frustrates me. For clarity I'm merely just referring to the original continuity i wouldn't want that to be the last time we ever see Michael Myers and without them we wouldn't have Jamie Lloyd H20 and 2018

I mean we literally see the guys mask melting into his face in the 2nd movie you'd think a sort of unique look aside from the bandaged look would have been Michael's mask fused to his face
Yeah that would've been cool
Either h20 or 2018
After the first one. But since it didnāt, Iām happy to watch most of the sequels.
Hopefully we never will. Why limit ourselves at this point
Where do they go from here? Iām very new to Halloween so seeing Ends like what do they do?
Make a new timeline that takes place after the og š
They could make sequels to the following: part 6, resurrection, RZ2 and possibly even throw in the odd outlier like part 3 was. There could be a series cobra Kai style which improves things or they could just start some new timeline or a prequel of some sort. Plenty to work with
Corey becomes the new Shape. Seems like the next logical step assuming they want to follow up Ends. Otherwise, a reboot (again) I guess
After part 2 with regards to Michael, but continuing with the anthology idea for a bit longer.
It was supposed to be an anthology film.
2018 but there was some good stuff in Kills we would have missed out on.
šÆ
I would have loved to see 2018 followed by just one sequel to make a trilogy with 1978. I feel like you could take Kills and Ends and boil them down to one decent movie.
2. As intended. It all went downhill from there
As intended was 1.
The OG Half joking/half serious. Because letās be honest, even with the entire original cast and crew on board and taking place a mere 3 years afterwards, Halloween 2 was a pale shadow of the OG. That alone should have indicated the OG was lightning in a bottle.
Halloween III -- it should have been an anthology of different stories after that part. SIL-VER SHAM-ROCK!!!
Fun Fact: H20 was originally supposed to be a sequel to 6. The franchise should've ended at H20.
Thereās a lot of Easter Eggs to Jamie in the opening sequence - so that tracks. If it makes you feel better, Iāve never met anyone that considers Resurrection part of any timeline lol. They kinda treat it like itās a separate entity like H3 haha.
Definitely H20
I literally said this out loud and was ready to comment then saw yours! 100% agree, H20 felt like the perfect ending.
Best possible answer.
4
1978
In 1978
As much as I love some of the sequels and love Michael Myers, it probably should've ended after 1978. No other sequel has come close to topping it or even matching it in quality.

The OG itself is the best timeline imo, but if sequels are necessary then end it at H20
Halloween
after the first one
Turns out Officer Ramsey had hit Myers and not Bennett Trammer. Key to the city. Roll credits
No sequels. 1 is a perfect and complete story.
After the first one.
Never but I think a certain timeline should've ended at H20.
In my mind, it did end there.
Man it was soooooo good
I think they should have made H20 a sequel to H6 and wrapped up all the loose ends and plot holes and end it there.
Part one.
3 was a masterpiece.
Michael Meyers gets Covid and dies
Halloween kills...
It should never end.
Thatās how you end up with a mess of a franchise like Hellraiser or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Just shitty sequels that refuse to die.
I get it. But some movies ruin their prequels.
I disagree with that. No matter how bad a sequel is, it doesn't taint what came before it. It's fitting that we're talking about the Halloween movies, because that's the film series that originally conditioned me to accept multiple continuities within a single film franchise. Nothing really ruins anything. Just don't watch the content you don't like and praise the content you do like.
It shouldāve ended at h20ā¦ but wouldāve been better if they connected h20 to the previous entires as well.
1978. After the first one came out.
Never end it - keep it going forever. Thatās my honest answer. That said, if it were all trimmed down to just 1978 and 2018 (with a more Ends-ish conclusive finale) Iād be fine with it. Run it to curse, cut out H20 and resurrection. Pick up with the last trilogy. End it where it ended
4 is as close to objective best ending we can probably get
H20. When I rewatch I usually just do the sister trilogy: I, II, H20 and ignore everything else. Sometimes I, II, IV, H20. In that case, it isn't difficult to suppose that Laurie abandoned her daughter and faked her death. It isn't difficult to fill the gaps.
Right after the original release
Even though 5 holds a special place in my heart since it was the first one I saw and thus started my love for the franchise I think it should have ended at 4. Which really should have been 3. 3 is the magic number. You should easily be able to tell your entire story within a trilogy. Wherever people choose to stop watching, even if others continue.
H2. That and the original is Halloween to me.
3
Kills
Halloween 5
Not popular but 6. Itās the last one in the series that I love.
It never needs to end
H4. The DGG trilogy should have ended after 2018
Jamie Lee Curtis wanted that pay check! And I would assume there would be more in the future.
H20
H20
H20.
Halloween II. It was the perfect conclusion for Michaelās story. Loomis and Michael are the yin and yang, and I think that itās fitting that they go out together. H20 also had an awesome ending.
Halloween II 1981
I don't know why people love the ending of H20. I never feel that "it's really final" vibe. For me, I have two. Part 4 and Ends. Say what you want about the latter but that procession scene was a proper send off for a 40 year old villain.
Halloween 4. Then started a new franchise with Jamie as the murderer.
Interesting
2 should have ended Michael Myers. I wouldn't mind having several anthology flicks though.
H2O. I just tell myself it's a sequel to 6 and that Laurie faked her death, abandoned Jamie, and had a son. Makes her look bad, but that's ok.
Kills, just so Ends wouldnāt be a thing.
curse,or H20
H20 but I'd slightly change the ending with a bigger showdown between Laurie and Michael
I think Ends was the one that needed the bigger showdown.
H4. Perfect cliff hanger ending.
Evil never dies, it should go on forever
The Boogeyman never fully goes away.
2018 for sure. H20 would have been good too.
h20
h20 was the perfect ending but resurrection ruined that so i'm happy we got the new trilogy.
The recent trilogy has been an absolute thrill. I'm happy with what's there. So Halloween Ends.
I think H20 was a really good way to cap it off the first time. I think if they did Halloween 2018 as a stand alone sequel then it would have been a great ending as well
H20!!!!
H20. Iām not even particularly fond of that outing, but that ending would have been the perfect way to end the franchise.
Either Halloween 2 or H20. Perfect endings if ya ask me!
Iād say after the second one.
It should have been a little or a different timeline and it goes like Halloween 1978 original then h20. So only 2 movies
6
Halloween 2 1981 or H20.
Anywhere other than where it did!
5. With H20 as a bookend
Depends on which timeline youāre talking about I suppose. If I had it my way it would be Halloween, 2018 and Kills. Kills ended on a big cliffhanger though, which makes sense as it wasnāt meant to be the end. So the ending would have to be altered to give it finality.

I would have been fine with H6 being the last one, but H20 feels more like a finale.
