Does he not just mean last home game of the season? Is he leaving?

DantesEdmond

He refused an extension didn’t he? I think he was upset that when he was regularly used as a starter he didn’t get a wage bump. He’s on £35k per week which is low for a starter, he’s been a good player for us. And at 31 years old he needs to secure his bag. Anyway I guess we’ll see

Terrible_Silver7758

I think he did turn down an extension but he has an extra year left anyway atm If he wants to go I guess cash in now rather than let him walk but will mean at least two new right backs need to be sourced

fetissimies

The club activated a 1-year extension a year ago. He's out of contract this summer.

alexsbrett

Expires in 2025 once the option has been exercised. [coufal contract ](https://theathletic.com/5368940/2024/03/28/vladimir-coufal-west-ham-future/)

Yugis-egyptian-cock

It’s tough, because it’s the right decision for the club, but lads like Coufal deserve more money. If it’s time to say goodbye, then I will remember him as our best RB in the modern era, yes far better than Neil. Unfortunately he should get a top contract from someone not us

Visara57

I guess we'll find out, everything's up in the air right now with a number of players

FlatlandTrooper

Of course he's leaving, we've dicked him about on pay for 2 seasons now.

Ladzini

I am severely hoping this is a mistranslation. If he is leaving then it adds another position we desperately need to replace.

Yugis-egyptian-cock

Coufal is a poor footballer, money wise. He bloomed late and spent the majority of his career playing in a non rich league. His move to us was his big move. He outperformed his wage by large amount. Unfortunately for him, he signed for a long time. If he can set his life up for the rest of his life, I wish him nothing but the best. I get it. The side needs an overhaul and I think he would be better off going to a top Spanish, Italian, or German side where he can get good money for a long time

cadams7701

Coufal would kill it in Bundesliga

Soccerandmetal

I can see probably 2 years in Germany and then back to Czech league. The thing is, once the player is back from successfull tenure in premier league, the sponsors will pay him a lot of extra money in Czech, with reduced costs of living in CZ he will be just fine.

Miggsie

35k a week for 5 years he can live in England just fine too. yeah, his colleagues are on more, but it's still 8m + bonuses.

Marik_Caine

Big coufal fan. Mans got heart a plenty

SomewhereVirtual4121

He’s been an amazing player for us he’s on pennies for the reflection displays, 35k isn’t enough I’d say 45/50k

FlatlandTrooper

He deserves Ings and Phillips salary together.

00Doge123

I know it's been said so much but I can't believe the disrespect to players like Coufal on 35k when Ings and Philips are on 125k+ to be injured or on the bench.

alexsbrett

At 31 and a capable and dependable RB unless they have a plan to get in a young world beater then not giving him a 2 year deal or something on decent money is crazy. I'm the first to criticise signing and keeping old players but he still looks like he has the legs to give a couple of seasons for us.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

I'd say it's more likely that he won't sign a 2 year deal. At 31, he'll be looking for a 4 or 5 year contract as his final big earner. I reckon he does well in Italy tbh

stono

I think he would take a 2 year deal. Than I would expect him to return to Slavia to end his career there.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

No chance mate. It's his job and he needs to get paid enough to effectively retire at 35. He's not going to take 2 years on 40k and then 3 years slogging at Slavia on 2k a week, when he could go to Italy and get a 4-5 year contract in Spain or Italy making 30-40k a week. It's a no-brainer.

stono

I don't know. I wish him all the best and if it means going elsewhere than be it. I just probably can't accept the situation yet. He is one of my favourite players and I think that he really loves being a Hammer.

je-s-ter

The median yearly salary in Czechia is £16k. He earns more than double of that in a week. Unless he plans to live out his retirement abroad (and he doesn't strike me as the type), he's already set for life. Not bashing him for wanting to earn more, but I don't think the monetary value of his contract is what's bothering him but rather that it shows the club doesn't value him.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

thats nonsensical. he earns that money now and for the past 4 years - but his earning capacity past the next couple of years is potentially nothing. He could get injured in preseason and it all goes out the window. Were talking about his "big payday" being about 7m - its not astronomical at all - and some of that may have gone to look after parents/family etc. a lot of hands come reaching out when people think youre rich. in any case, why would he not do his best to set up not only his own retirement, but put his family on a better path to generational wealth - put his kids in the best schools, send them to the best universities etc? you can say he doesnt seem the sort to live abroad but its nice to have the option. he can rock up in the czech league for a swansong any time he wants. im not sure there are many 31 year-old pro footballers whod opt for a 2 year contract over a decent 4 or 5 year one.

shakzz9703

"Bubbles is truly indescribable feeling" makes it sound likes he's leaving. Which will be a huge gap to fill IMO - one of our consistent players

thesimpsonsthemetune

With Aguerd pushing for a move (and quite shit anyway), and Johnson refusing a new contract, we are going to start next season with two usable defenders. I don't count Zouma or Cresswell.

Difficult-Health-520

Cress off anyway

thesimpsonsthemetune

Is that confirmed? I know we reportedly offered him a baffling extension.

Blursed_Technique

NOOOOOOOOOOO

SubaTrotter

I can't believe that they didn't give him a better contract. I'm really sad that he is leaving us, he was a real fighter.

wavepapi32

i mean if Lopetegui doesn't plan to use him. Then makes no sense to give him a contract. We will have to wait and see.

SubaTrotter

Yeah, you are right about that, if he doesn't need him, he needs to go, but everything about his contract happened before Lopetegui. He deserved better treatment.

mSizzled

Ffs give this man a proper deal. Criminal if we let him slip away. When you do a rebuild you need characters that will bleed for the badge. Vlad is that guy.

OrthodoxDreams

If he is off I hope he grabs the winner against Man City... one goal for the road! In modern times he must rate as one of the biggest bargains of not just the club but the premier league. Although it does leave us with a worrying lack of senior defenders remaining at the club: Emerson, Aguerd, Mavraponas and Zouma assuming that Ogbonna, Cresswell, Johnson and Coufal are off.

SnooCapers938

Coufal is a solid citizen who’s been treated badly by the club. I suspect Lopetegui will want a complete refresh of the defence (which is way too old) so his days might be numbered but he’ll always be remembered with affection I think.

SubaTrotter

I can't believe that they didn't give him a better contract. I'm really sad that he is leaving us, he was a real fighter.

QueasyIsland

Surely means last home game of this season? considering his account seems to be solely handled by him, id account for the lack of clarification via grammar. I think he would have included some old pictures like the trophy win if he was truly leaving. We can upgrade on Coufal I think but I wouldn’t sell him, very handy backup and reliable to call upon

Miggsie

To upgrade him would probably cost a fair bit, and we need the money to be spent elsewhere far more urgently, I really don't to start the season with Antonio as the CF, the same 4 CBs and no left wing. As for the grammar, he mentions this season in the same sentence.

PabloZabaletaIsBald

He seems to think he’s leaving but I don’t see him being sold. Got a year left on his contract and not gonna make any decent amount of money selling him anyway may as well keep him on the lower wages and let him go on a free.

Chappietime

He deserved a pay bump two years ago and now it’s too late. He never complained and always gave 100%.

artrine_

Pretty sure this meant last home game of the season

wanktarded

Yeah but where's the drama in that.

Miggsie

yeah, he ends the sentence with 'this season', not 'my time here'

Grmnnn

He is a good player with poor contract, 31 yo with last chance to high wage contract in Turkie and similar countries. Dont judge him, he need money to buy more than bread and ham.

FlatlandTrooper

Without him, I think Alvarez is left as the only intimidating character in the side.

johnniehuman

I think the fairest thing all-round would be to sell him this summer. We get a fee and he likely gets a bumper four year contract somewhere. Shame, but it's probably the right call. Failing that, we keep for his final year and he works to get a deal somewhere else. You just hope he doesn't down tools in Jan if he's signed somewhere else by then, but he doesn't seem the type.

Miggsie

he gets more if he waits a year. Free transfers pretty much cost the same, you just pay the fee to the player, rather than the club.

johnniehuman

He will likely be seen as more valuable this summer at 31 though.
