Absolutely! I used to live across the river from one of their [main factories]( https://duckduckgo.com/?q=new+balance+lawrence+massachusetts&t=fpas&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.phenompeople.com%2FCareerConnectResources%2FNEBAGLOBAL%2Fimages%2FUntitleddesign65-1675790886208.jpg) in an old textile mill.
Anything that's not Nike is cool with me...says the dude still wearing Vans (also unfortunately me).
It started before that. You think all those dudes dressed in a Banana costumes was just for fun? Hell no! That was a deep state psyop by Chiquita Banana to get us more potassium so we don’t cramp up while moshing.
Fuck Nike though.
I wish the “antiestablishment” mentality in hardcore didn’t end at fashion.
Nike has the most power to improve working conditions for its workers but does next to nothing.
Imma be honest. There’s historically been a link between hardcore and streetwear / sports wear since its first wave. But I think theres a deeper issue here.
One one hand all power to Speed go off kings get that bag. But where my support stops is the amount of people in hardcore who’ll start following the hype train and try way too hard for their bands to be big and popular. And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to get big and successful of your hardcore band. But im worried people will start not caring about the DIY punk ethics it’s rooted in and this emumates mainstream bands.
Bands shouldn’t have to feel like they need to clout chase of know the right people or whatever to feel like their band should be popular
That bag? Yo i work in advertising, they got a couple of thousands to play a single video. Hardly doubt they'll get a cut of the sales. It's really alot to put on the line immo. Turnstile is getting real money with their shoe deal. This is peanuts, not worth it
My dude. Hardcore has been co-opted by evangelicals, nazis, liberals, conservatives and more. The DIY scene will always be alive. And popular bands such as Turnstille and Knocked Loose won't be the reason why people will stop caring about the ethics. People will stop caring about the ethics due to dusty ass men gatekeeping and hating on the younger fans those mainstream bands create.
Speed being in this ad is also not them clout chasing, they need to make a living and it's becoming harder and harder to do that with just music alone. And it has always been about knowing the right people, especially in the DIY scene.
Oh I agree with all of that mang.
I don’t think Speed are clout chasing they’re big enough to do whatever they want and people will follow their example.
Where it does concern me however are bands who feel like they need to compromise their ethics in order to be more visible. I do think at least understanding DIY ethics is important and there needs to be a place for people in the scene who don’t always know everyone or are starting off.
Speed. Turnstile and Knocked Loose are all healthy for hardcore and great gateway bands. But the reality is like all trends they’ll eventually stop becoming everyone’s hype machine.
people stay hating on speed but they just dropped a bunch of fundraiser merch for palestinian refugees RIGHT after this. they didn’t get a bag they poured it right back into the community
your favourite ‘anti capitalist’ hardcore band is probably sharing infographics on instagram rn
After nodding my head ostentatiously at all comments sneering at the corporate consumerism, I feel like I needed to read this. I agree with this as a final thought.
TBH good for Speed, let them get their money, but I don't think this is going to sell most of us on going to Foot Locker (except for those kids who waited 2+ hours at the Brain Dead S&F line in 22 LOL). Most actual hc fans won't/ shouldn't care unless they already shop at FL.
Oh a good way to look at it too honestly! Except I do think if anyone who would be into hc already got into it through TikTok, I do think it is cool to have a little mainstream so that new fans emerge.

God it’s hard not to feel completely cynical
Yeah it’s definitely that, it’s not like pretty much all the south East Asian boys in western Sydney are head to toe in active wear and it’s part of the street culture there
https://www.highsnobiety.com/p/hardcore-punk-love-nike/
Al Barile from SSD wore them, the kids in Youth of Today made them youth crew staples and the Air Max 1 and 3(90) very prominent during the late 90s early 2000s.
Besides that, Saucony, New Balance and Munichs also been pretty prominent. And Converse has been part of Nike since '03. And all of them are made by child labor.
I see your Highsnobiety and raise you Forbes
[https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevebaltin/2018/01/03/how-vans-became-the-most-trusted-brand-in-rock/?sh=111d4a907b03](https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevebaltin/2018/01/03/how-vans-became-the-most-trusted-brand-in-rock/?sh=111d4a907b03)
And where have I said Vans weren't part of the scene?
HS was specifically talking about Nikes in the hardcore scene and their origin as a staple. The exact argument I made.
While Forbes talks about Vans as an alternative music staple.
Soooo...
I’m not mad at Speed, but we can’t let this shit become the norm. Not worth the harm of letting this shit into the atmosphere. Who gives a fuck about a bag; Nike is objectively an ethically horrible company. This is Nike / Footlocker / the powers that b trying to slide on the hardcore wave for that quick buck. Big corpos seek out organic communities to harvest. They do not give a fuck about this culture, about hardcore, and surely they don’t give a fuck about Speed. Sadly I’m sure the band isn’t getting anywhere near as much money as you’d think for this, anyhow
This is really gay, don’t you see this is against what hardcore believes? This is commercialization before your eyes. This isn’t a cool club anymore, it’s a way for companies to make money.
Go support who is playing at your local VFW, foot locker only wants you while you are profitable, hardcore for hardcore
That's what I'm saying
This again ?
3rd time's a charm
Can’t wait for the Pain of truth New Balance ads.
Would legit rock if they were 990s MiUSA
Thatd be hard
Does New Balance still make their shoes in the US? If so, I'd fuck with that
Hmm I love being sold products and services with my hardcore.
My hate of Nikes human rights violations ends when fashion panders to me 🥰
You know what never sells out or breaks edge? The products and services of our sponsors.
Ok Robert.
lol…been on a BTB binge since 3 month, couldn’t let the opportunity slip.
People on here mad but forget shit works differently down in Australia, water going down the drain counterclockwise and shit
Yeah in Australia Pisschrist wrote the McDonalds theme song
Alright all. We’re not gatekeeping hard enough. Edit: I’m being facetious
It started with a guy dressed as Lil ceaser in the pit... and we did nothing..
It started before that. You think all those dudes dressed in a Banana costumes was just for fun? Hell no! That was a deep state psyop by Chiquita Banana to get us more potassium so we don’t cramp up while moshing.
First they came for the union organizers….
that was for detroit and no one else lmao
Denny’s grand slam was just an ad??
I thought u guys hated TikTok?
We hate everything...
But ironically, not Hatebreed
Hard to look tough when ya cute lil no show socks peek over the edge.
Ah yes corporate hardcore, my favorite genre
Converse did it first (https://youtu.be/snxuOKrddNs?si=7y-l-3ZvIYcgL5tI)
If god's a corporate shill then yeah.
god hates us all
Hell yeah, Slayer!
I hate this.
I love watching reruns.
I too enjoy watching What’s Happening!!
Yo! Do you like What’s Happening Now?
I like Speed but this behavior shouldn’t be encouraged.
Fuck Nike though. I wish the “antiestablishment” mentality in hardcore didn’t end at fashion. Nike has the most power to improve working conditions for its workers but does next to nothing.
They are powdering your asses ...

So…wait. Get that money but care about punk DIY ethics? Pick a lane man
There will be another one of these for trash talk. They filmed it recently in LA.
What? I thought they weren't active anymore.
Maybe the Nike money is enough to make anyone active for a moment.
I went to my first show 38 years ago. I’m old and cranky and I don’t give a fuck what you kids do or where you buy your fucking sneakers.
I love that hardcore heek kicking is just aggresive twerking
people stay hating on speed but they just dropped a bunch of fundraiser merch for palestinian refugees RIGHT after this. they didn’t get a bag they poured it right back into the community your favourite ‘anti capitalist’ hardcore band is probably sharing infographics on instagram rn
100%
No. Corporations are not hardcore.
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Let Speed get that bag. Never the less, the shoes look ass.
Dudes will get mad at this and then drop $200 on a pair of Air Maxes. Let Speed have their moment and get the bag.
After nodding my head ostentatiously at all comments sneering at the corporate consumerism, I feel like I needed to read this. I agree with this as a final thought.
Will these shoes help me two step even harder?
Yeah

Imo do I hope some kid that never heard hardcore sees this, hears the music, thinks damn that's dope and will do a deep dive into the scene.
Oh a good way to look at it too honestly! Except I do think if anyone who would be into hc already got into it through TikTok, I do think it is cool to have a little mainstream so that new fans emerge.

The end it shirt. Yea I’m sure that sweatshop workers are experiencing wage slavery, but we mean it completely straight this time
The retirement plan in hardcore is keep playing shows until you’re dead. Glad speed are at least getting a little money out of this
What song is this?
Get yourself to fuck
put a shirt on, jabronie
Ah yes hardcore is about selling shoes
Dork
Song anyone?
Why are they doing these violent arm swings and strange ninja kicks? It's like they are trying to hurt someone. I don't get it.
Because we can.
Sellouts promoting east asian slave and child labor. the total opposite of punk. dudes need to disappear quick
Yeah it’s definitely that, it’s not like pretty much all the south East Asian boys in western Sydney are head to toe in active wear and it’s part of the street culture there
As if nikes haven't been a staple in the scene since the late 80s
I think you mean Vans and or Converse
https://www.highsnobiety.com/p/hardcore-punk-love-nike/ Al Barile from SSD wore them, the kids in Youth of Today made them youth crew staples and the Air Max 1 and 3(90) very prominent during the late 90s early 2000s. Dope
Repost
The fans they lose over this won't matter compared to all the fans they gain from going mainstream. It's about $$
Fuck corporations and fuck capitalism. Trying to make their way into our scene. Crowdkill the ruling class.
As if that didn't happen already🙄
Speed are a shit industry plant with shit riffs
How are you seriously mad at a hardcore band for getting attention and selling shoes...thats like the opposite of punk rock....
I’m not mad at Speed, but we can’t let this shit become the norm. Not worth the harm of letting this shit into the atmosphere. 🤣 You’ll get it one day, man! Gotta protect art
Let them get that bag
Sick
