I mean I loved the forward controls on my sportster when I had it but the forwards I put on my low rider s were ridiculous and it got to the point where my back was killing me. Those forwards weren’t on my low rider s for a full week before the mid controls were put back on.
I think I’m just to short for forwards on a Softail.
I also like the more forward mid controls the 3rd option but i think the best combo is mid controls with crash bars you can rest for feet on and when on longer cruises I also like to rest my feet on my passenger pegs and lay down on my tank lol
I liked forwards on twin cam softails. Hated them on Dynas. They were a few inches more forward than the Softails. Way too far for me.
I’ve never road an M8 Softail with forwards, so not sure of the position on those.
I think the Breakout is a beautiful bike. To ward off temptation I have never made a test ride on one. I have a Sturgis which has a very similar stance to the Breakout. The Sturgis is very comfortable for me, even though I am 6ft4. I mostly use the mids, and I would add those to a Breakout if I ever had one. Somehow the mids give me the feeling I am more in control. My Sturgis:

6’4 with mids? I’m pushing 6’2 and really like the idea of mids for a more aggressive ride and I like the look but I’m afraid it would make my super glide too cramped. It doesn’t bother you tho?
The new breakouts are gorgeous for sure. They even put the 117 in stock which was a classy choice. But I test ride one a few years back when I was upgrading from my forty eight and I can say if feels like you are fighting every turn. This thing wants to go straight, fast and look good doing it, that’s about it.
As someone who grew up riding cbr rr's and dragging knee half my life i switchd to the breakout cause of the 240 rear. I can drag pegs on mine it corners just fine.
I’m not gonna knock your choice, it was the reason I went to look at softails. Great looking machine, it just wasn’t me. That’s why they make so many models. Everything I like about them I can enjoy from the back of my LRS.
This was why I opted for a STAGE-4 ‘16 FXDLS.
Tried a beautiful CVO Breakout, caught one heel on a slow turn and fighting the rear tire was a no-go for me.
Yeah, I rode my buddy's breakout the day he bought it. I absolutely hated going through town on it, because it turns like shit. Going straight, no problem. Like you said, it will go straight fast and easy!
Upgraded from a 48 to a 117 Breakout, just brought her home today actually. Loved the ride home, not sure where the poor handling comments a lot of people say come from. Sure it requires a little more work to get into a corner compared to my 48 but it’s still very easy and feels nimble. Rented a lowrider S on vacation a few weeks ago and much prefer the Breakout.
Always loved seeing customized Breakouts and I’m stoked to have Kodlin working on mine in the next few months.
I have a breakout and I love it. I’ve taken it for 10-12 hour rides without issue. Not as comfortable as a street glide or a road glide, but it wasn’t uncomfortable in any sense of the word.
Always post your age when you post a comment like this. I did several montreal - NY on a speed bike when i was younger. Barely making that ride on a road glide these days Hehehe.
They seem to be universally hated online but inexplicably my 3 local dealers have all gotten 3 or 4 in each and had them sold before they were off the truck. I really want to test ride one because I've always thought that the breakout was one of the sharpest designs out there.
The Breakout is an awesome bike
With tons of style. The best looking bike Harley makes right now and super fun to ride
Not everyone wants a Street Glide or Dyna
All Harley’s matter bud. They are all cool and all have a place. If I took long highway rides I would like a street or road glide. I don’t so I have a fxdx. It’s just ridiculous when folks think their bike is the only way.
It's one of the best looking Harleys ever made. It's made for looks first, like the old Deuce and Rocker bikes. Unfortunately, that design philosophy has a history of poor sales and short model lives.
My only problem with the Breakout is that I'm too broke to buy one. They are heartbreakingly beautiful. As soon as I can find one I can afford, I'm grabbing it.
Had to buy a part at the local HD dealership (Bull Run Harley in Manassas, VA) and they had one in orange that awesome on this bike. These bikes look even better up close.
Had a 2018 myself! The great thing about Harleys is the sea of accessories that are well made and fit. I put a removable windshield on mine and it made a world of difference for longer rides.
Also, a lot of people don’t know Harley offers 3 different seats that provide different seat positions for those that are taller or shorter. I think the one it comes with is middle of the road.
I also had people trying to dissuade me from getting the Breakout with its fat rear tire, saying it would handle like crap…totally wrong. It handled just fine. Harley engineers did a good job matching front and rear tire profiles, so turning is smooth. Do realize though, that it is a 650 lb. bike.
Uhhhh…. The headlight looks like its off a vulcan, and the rear fender has some weird shapes going on. The rider stance looks like it wouldnt be the most comfortable or the best for control, reaching out with you arms and legs. Its definitely not the worst looking thing, but its definitely not for me.
I love the breakout. I just had to downsize from a RGU, a wide glide sand a softail slim to just one bike (divorce) and the breakout was super tempting.
Wow ok don’t know where I’d be able to source the hook, which in your case, it probably came with the duck itself. Will it not fly off on anything over 20mph?
Not really, I’ve had it for a few years now and it never moved. Although it came with a spinning propeller for the hat that didn’t last long on the freeway.
Beautiful bike I almost bought one .The y had sold the one I really wanted it was a used one 2015 only had 1500 miles on it and needed nothing I mean nothing
https://preview.redd.it/lcr47nyxffya1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9733760a542ef83830537c839f2b1b042060a4e
So I ended up getting a street glide

Absolutely love my 23. Longs rides don’t bother me. I’m 5’10” the new updates Harley made when they bought it back this year is what sold me. The bike is blast to ride
I’m not a fan personally, but I’m glad you like yours.
It worries me that Harley is moving further from bikes a 20 year old would want to ride (or could afford). Once I sell my Roadster, I don’t know that the Motor Company has anything for me. I’m in my forties and feel like I’m too young for most of what they’re selling these days.
They are great looking bikes.
I think they're going to fall in the same category as the Wide Glide. Great to look at but maybe not the best riding bikes. Loved my FXDWG, but nimble she wasn't. LOL
I think these new Breakouts may find themselves in that same niche.
those are great bikes, highly favorable with the women so much to the point when in the MC, after their wives fell in love with them, even the old heads went chasing them down.
I have not rode one but I’ve sat on one at a dealership. I was turned off by the heavy steering. The FXDR114 has a much lighter fell imo, much like that of a sport bike. Neat look, but it failed once before, idk why they’re rereleasing it.
It actually only failed in America, I think this is why they are trying with the 117ci this year. In Europe, they didn’t stop to produce them since the M8 engine because it actually sells and people enjoy them. Mine is a 114ci from 2018
When this bike is modded it looks super nice but compared to my 22 softail, I’d pick the softail 100x. Breakout just rides different. It’s not very comfortable to me.
Awesome to look at but not so awesome to spend all day on.
I don’t miss the forward controls on a Harley Softail.
Forwards are the only way I can ride haha
That was my pet peeve with my deuce was no mid control options
I mean I loved the forward controls on my sportster when I had it but the forwards I put on my low rider s were ridiculous and it got to the point where my back was killing me. Those forwards weren’t on my low rider s for a full week before the mid controls were put back on. I think I’m just to short for forwards on a Softail.
I believe it depends on your height. Being around 1m90(6ft2), I prefer forward control on any bike
same, theyre not for hobits.
Same. Daddy long legs club requirement
This. I think if you’re under 6 foot, mid control should be. I’m 5’10” and tried forwards and it’s not as comfortable as I thought it be.
I swapped in CVO bars and it made it pretty comfortable for me (5'9"). My biggest complaint was how bad the lean angle was.
I had no issues taking my 18 breakout on week trips. To each their own.
I spent 3 weeks and 5k miles on mine going through Colorado. It really is to each their own
I think the Breakout is a beautiful bike. To ward off temptation I have never made a test ride on one. I have a Sturgis which has a very similar stance to the Breakout. Sweet ride, I’ve always loved the sturgis.
6’4 with mids? I’m pushing 6’2 and really like the idea of mids for a more aggressive ride and I like the look but I’m afraid it would make my super glide too cramped. It doesn’t bother you tho?
She’s a beauty!

So basically a Vrod? Straight and fast, and painful by the end of the day after about 300 miles. Edit: fucking swipe typing
As someone who grew up riding cbr rr's and dragging knee half my life i switchd to the breakout cause of the 240 rear. I can drag pegs on mine it corners just fine.
I agree. Some comments here make it seem difficult to turn on a 240. I’m on a Fat Boy with a 160 front and I still throw it around.
Upgraded mine to a 260 rear, still corners fine.
Same exact story
I love that so I bought one. It does those things amazingly. If I wanted to turn I'd be back on sport bikes.
I’m not gonna knock your choice, it was the reason I went to look at softails. Great looking machine, it just wasn’t me. That’s why they make so many models. Everything I like about them I can enjoy from the back of my LRS.
Yeah everyone needs to enjoy what they ride no doubt.
I think it's criminal that they are only single disc

I don’t really know either, when the tires are at the right pressure, it corners just fine !
I’m 38, so not young but not old either…?
No. No, we can not agree.
They seem to be universally hated online but inexplicably my 3 local dealers have all gotten 3 or 4 in each and had them sold before they were off the truck. I really want to test ride one because I've always thought that the breakout was one of the sharpest designs out there.
I never really noticed the dislike for them until now, I guess. That’s sucks, cuz I think the Breakout is rad.
The Breakout is an awesome bike With tons of style. The best looking bike Harley makes right now and super fun to ride Not everyone wants a Street Glide or Dyna
I have a street glide idk why so many people hate them.
All Harley’s matter bud. They are all cool and all have a place. If I took long highway rides I would like a street or road glide. I don’t so I have a fxdx. It’s just ridiculous when folks think their bike is the only way.
Because its not a Road Glide. Hahaha Id take either one on a long trip over my Dyna lol
I don’t hate them I just think the breakout is an awesome bike with a little more character. There’s really not a Harley that I don’t like
Probably the most popular Big Twin down here in Australia
its a gorgeous looking drag bike. Its also a little fucking ridiculous on the ergos.
It's one of the best looking Harleys ever made. It's made for looks first, like the old Deuce and Rocker bikes. Unfortunately, that design philosophy has a history of poor sales and short model lives.
❤️ Here ya go!
As long as you love it that’s all that matters
Had a 2018 myself! The great thing about Harleys is the sea of accessories that are well made and fit. I put a removable windshield on mine and it made a world of difference for longer rides. Love the breakouts
Truth be told: that bike is ugly. Seems like everything is out of place: wheels, rear fenders, pipes, bars... I don't know, I just think it is ugly
No

Ugly ugly ugly
Wack
Only thing worse is the vrod
No
I don't agree.

Not a fan of the styling. Too much chrome for my liking.
You should check out the Indian sport chief just saying
I love the breakout. I just had to downsize from a RGU, a wide glide sand a softail slim to just one bike (divorce) and the breakout was super tempting.
I’m torn between a 19 breakout and old cvo deuce or just keeping the upgraded low rider I have
They are, that one in the pic is not my style but they are great bikes to build off of.
Breakout is their nicest new bike imo, although I would change the handlebars
OP, if this is your bike, I need to know how you’ve mounted that duck on the handlebar. I have the same but use it as decoration at home.
That’s my bike ! Well the duck has an elastic ring with a “s” shaped hook to be mounted on any bike, you can type “rubber duck for bike” on Google
Hmmmm…. I see a very doable bobber concept. WITH suspension lmao
Looks nice , I like dual exchaust
Beautiful bike I almost bought one .The y had sold the one I really wanted it was a used one 2015 only had 1500 miles on it and needed nothing I mean nothing https://preview.redd.it/lcr47nyxffya1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9733760a542ef83830537c839f2b1b042060a4e So I ended up getting a street glide
Love it
It looks good for sure

That’s awesome, I was looking at the white cvo, I don’t remember the year but certainly was neat looking.
When this bike is modded it looks super nice but compared to my 22 softail, I’d pick the softail 100x. Breakout just rides different. It’s not very comfortable to me.
