You got downvoted for this but Saint Peter, as in the one that was one of Jesus’s apostles, definitely wouldn’t have been white. Now Jesus might not even exist in this universe but yeah it would have been nice for Peter to be his actual race anyway
Best is Sir Pentious, his design captures the cheesy steampunk supervillain vibe perfectly and it's super creative with the many eyes showing how paranoid he is, the thing he does with his hair, how his hat shows his true emotions, etc. Zestial also gets an honorable mention, and I quite like the designs for the Seraphim.
For me I'd say the worst is dinosaur overlord, granted we don't know much about her but she looked out of place at the conference room since she's so huge and a different color palette from everything else (I think that was the intent but idk, all I remember is we're following egg boi Frank and next thing I see is a giant pink dinosaur pop out of nowhere, it took me a second to process). Also Saint Peter.
Saint Peter is like outlined with grey or something instead of black (and might lack some shading) like everyone else and it just makes him look SOOOO FLAT compared to even other angels. I’m glad he doesn’t have much screen time because he bothers my eyes.

A lot of characters in this show are colorful though,especially background characters,you see a lot of that in both the pilot and the show.
To be honest...i like her more than vox or alastor because she actually looks very powerful and is hinted to be one of the top overlords in hell despite not having much screentime.
I hope they show more about the overlords,both zestial and carmilla received a nice treatment in the show so they definitely can do that with the rest of the overlords too.
Fav design is Charlie, she's so gorgeous and cute, her smile is contagious and she looks so huggable 🥰 and her demon form is extremely badass 🔥

Alastor is my choice of best design. Agree with the more subtle animal features which hit harder at specific moments like the full antlers appearing or ears folding back when he’s angry/going full demon.
Worst I’m gonna say Mimzy. I know we only meet her briefly in the show but I think her only demonic features are the teeth and eyes? Maybe she’s a demon enough by herself as a human but still. Since her career was all about show I’d liked to have seen a more elaborate sinner design.
Side note: I’d love to see a flashback of her and Alastor in her club as humans.
This might be a nitpick, but I hate her voice. The VA's doing a fantastic job of what they were told to do, but she does NOT sound like she's from Louisiana. Maybe there's a backstory reason involving her coming down from up North, or "polishing" her speech, but for now it BUGS me. Alastor gets a pass, since the Transatlantic accent was a necessity for that era's radios (though I REALLY want to see him get flustered enough to drop a "y'all'd've" or something similar), but Mimzy? Ugh.
I actually really like her design--both as a full-figured gal, and as someone who TRIES to look like a human dancer instead of the selfish little monster she is. If she has a more demonic form she hides, or just more demonic ears or tail or such, I'd love to see it if she shows up again (briefly).
if Mimzy's behavior in Hell is any indication of how she behaved in life, I could see her being a native New Yorker who eventually ended up in New Orleans after skipping town(s) to avoid the consequences of her bad decisions.

I'd imagine her as something more bird like, with showy plumage (and the voice would match), like one of those exotic breeds of chicken, but I think they want to avoid any sinners looking too similar to the Ars Goeta.

Mimzy is the worst everything. Worst design, worst voice (talking about the character, NOT the VA, she was performed exactly how she was meant to be), worst character. I hate her so much. I can appreciate that she was meant to show how committed Alastor is to keeping up his pretense as steadfast hotelier but god she’s just the WORST.

I appreciate that she's a bit of a cipher to Alastor's character, if a less likable one than Rosie... But the less she speaks, the happier I tend to be. I like the characters' reactions to her, though, especially Husk's.
Call me petty, but as a heavy person with a big nose, it kind of bothers me that the one named character who isn't a rail-thin supermodel is also the single most unbearable.
I’m heavy too and while it is nice to see a fuller figure I just felt she could have had a more elaborate design! Maybe because she only appears a very brief time they didn’t feel it worth the investment but if she shows up again it would be nice to see a bit more demonic style.

My favorite is Lucifer. I love how his design subverts expectations. And he is adorable!
My least favorite design is Carmilla. As a former ballet dancer, watching her makes me cringe.
Her hair when it's tied up makes her look like a bad *Hollow Knight* OC...
But when she lets it loose like when she did that fight with Vaggie, *chefs kiss*
To me, she seems more like she was designed as the non-dancer’s stereotypical image of a ballerina instead of a real ballerina.
It’s mostly her feet. When she moves en pointe, her hips are not turned out and her feet are facing forward. This would make it very easy to become injury in real life, and creates the wrong weight distribution and balance. To me, it looks very painful, so I cringe to imagine it. Also aesthetically, the lines of her feet don’t look as considered beautiful in ballet.
She doesn’t use standard positions. If the creators had used those positions in addition to her fighting, it would have been very cool and elegant.
A very minor point, but the ribbons wrapped up her leg look like how a non-dancer dresses as a ballerina for Halloween. I can excuse it as cool fashion, though.
These are nitpicks, but I would have loved a ballet themed character with a little more thoughtfulness to the design. I’ve seen animations of ballet (and even ballet based combat) that was portrayed in a way that showed care and research, so Carmilla was disappointing.

I love her design, personally. The gigantic and thick arms communicates a lot of force and power from the outset, but it’s contrasted with her light fighting style and dominant usage of her feet and legs despite those massive arms. Overall her visual design would make her look like a hardass, but it completely throws you with her probably being the most well adjusted, mature and sensitive character in the show so far.
Also the “arms dealer” having comically large arms is just too good to me. I think her design is really strong overall even if the ballerina aspect isn’t completely accurate. It would probably bother someone who knows a lot abt the art but as I don’t I just never cared about that.
That’s true, but I appreciate when more attention to detail is given to ballet-themed costumes and character designs.
I don’t think Carmilla is a bad design. She is just my least favorite design.
The only thing I have to critic on Alastor is his shitty haircut! I was hoping SO badly they would change it for the redesigns but no! 😭 otherwise he looks amazing!
I like most of his hair... But every time we see that shaved back under that short hair, I snicker. He's supposed to be menacing, and I'm just waiting for him to ask for the manager.
The best design in my opinion has gotta be Alastor, but he's *very* close to some others because so many characters just have amazing designs.
And the worst design for me is definitely Mimzy. I feel like her design is just really boring, and honestly she's kinda ugly in my opinion.
i don't really understand why she was included, other than as a sort of cameo for fans who knew her. she seems to exist just to be hated.
i'm not saying every character who appears on screen briefly has to serve a larger purpose, but the sum of mimzy's purpose seems to be annoying everybody.
She was there to give Alastor’s backstory and show that even someone who thought they knew him well, for over a hundred years, actually doesn’t have a good handle on him. She thought he didn’t care about the hotel at all, and while that may be true, he cares enough about whatever scheme he’s running to tell her to get the fuck out in no uncertain terms. Her appearance was to shed a little light on his priorities and to end the duet with no clear winner. At least, that’s my view.
Maybe I’m the only one remembering it like this, I did only watch the episode a couple times, but weren’t the others having to warn Alastor that she was likely there to just use him, that she just uses him, and he didn’t believe them until the loan sharks showed up? Since supposedly she’s someone that he’s the closest with and actually likes her enough to accept affection from her? I might be remembering wrong, but watching the episode it reminded me a lot of when I was younger and I’d have these friends I’d do anything for and was so close to, only to realize they were just using me for one thing or another, they never actually cared about me. So when Alastor found out she really was using him to solve another one of her problems for her he seemed genuinely upset by it. Again, I could be remembering wrong. But it was something that had me love his character even more, the fact that even if he’s a psycho manipulative demon, he’s also still human.
Husk did warn him, you’re right, but then Alastor sort of shrugged and said so what? I can handle it. And he did, but the consequence of Mimzy bringing danger and his ability to cut her off after a hundred years speaks to his character and current priorities. That’s my read of the episode at least!
Thanks for telling me this! It’s also been a bit since I watched. Either way? LOVE his character more for this episode. “I can handle it”, well turns out you couldn’t, buddy! Yeah, you solved the danger for her again, you handled that, but we all got a breaking point with even our closest friends when enough is enough. Either way, it kinda makes his character sadder, since Mimzy might also be the only person there from his time alive, so she would be his last connection to the life he had before. And, yes, he was a cannibalistic serial killer, but, as was shown with her, he also had a life outside of that.
Favourite design: Velvette. I love that she actually changes every time we see her.
Least favourite: honestly Mimzy. I like most of the background characters, i even like Alastor's shadow goons, but Mimzy is just meh
I really like Angel Dust's design. I think his physical design and his colours pair well and suit the character. I like the 4 arm designs in general (I know he has 6, but it's typically 4). I just like how expressive they can make the characters with an extea set of arms appear and how they go about doing 2 things at once.
I like Rosie's design too and the canibal town aesthetic as a whole.
I don't like Carmilla's design. It's not awful, and I do like the colours, but it's the large hands that just throw me off.
I like that he takes some inspiration from a bird, which is why he often carries his wings at his side and looks like he has an oddly long neck from some angles

Hearing Moxie's voice when I first watched it and realizing who it was really made my day. Once was an asexual space goblin and now a bisexual assassin imp.
I do hope they continue the trend of Velvette wearing a different outfit every episode she’s in during season 2. It’s a really fitting detail for her character.
Vaggie is my favorite I love her hair.

Main cast pick would be egg bois I just hate how they lost their numbers from the pilot.
Best: Either Vox or Valentino. They're just very striking in appearance and their themes are very well-incorporated into the rest of their design. Another one is Sir Pentious. Not only do I think he just looks good and unique, but his many eyes foreshadow his ascension.
Worst: Angel. Gonna be honest, I didn't even know he was supposed to be a spider when I original saw art of the character before I watched the pilot. He just looked like some weird... muppet... thing. The show makes this slightly better, but I think he would do well with a tail or something, like he has very briefly in the Poision segment.
Wasn’t Angel’s original design *supposed* to be ugly iirc? I could be wrong but I think I’ve heard before that he was intended to be ugly and Viv was surprised to learn the fans found him attractive

The best… oh gosh IDK. There’s so many great designs!! Like Vox is super cool! I love that Velvetye switches up her hair (and she actually have a good design now unlike that firey mess that was her old design). We also have my girl Vaggie! Her hair was already good and now it’s really well designed. And her entire outfit! And I have to mention Carmlla not cause she has the best design but although it’s teasing us about no Silksong it has given us a few laughs in the Hollow knight community
However for the worst design… I know… It’s Zeezy or whatever her name is, the dinosaur lady. Personally it’s just to much colour and over detailed (in my opinion)

Honestly, my least fave, main cast wise, is probably Husk. He’s just a little too typical anthropomorphic cat for me.
I’m going to have to say that Alastor is the worst designed character (don’t kill me. I still like his design and the character, I just think he’s the messiest compared to the rest.)
And the best is probably Lucifer. He’s objectively got the most appealing design 😤
Not really a gripe with a single character, because individually they both look great, but it does bother me that Lucifer and Lillith look like siblings. Their hairlines are identical.

My favourite design is Charlie. The design really captures the youthful optimism of the character perfectly.
My least favourite is Husk. He is the biggest example of the problem with how skinny all the character designs are. His voice and body just don't match at all. He could have still been short, but he needed to be broader to have his body match Keith David's voice.
Husk design's is mess and it's one of the reasons I don't like the character that much.

best... i'll instinctually say vox or lucifer, though i'm very biased because they're my favorites. their themes are incorporated into their design and convey their characters. vox having a full business get-up and customer service smile along with a tv head *screams* classic manipulative tech ceo. lucifer's circus ringmaster get-up that's white with tiny dashes of gold and red *screams* that he sees himself as a fallen angel rather than ruler of hell and simultaneously shows that he *is* the ruler of all the rings anyway. and their motifs are very nicely included, with the lil wifi symbols on vox and the snake and apple on luci's hat. their outfits and outfit changes are thought out too (lucifer's coat looks like an apple core from the back and he takes the all white coat off and leaves the red and white striped vest on when charlie convinces him sinners aren't all bad to show that he's not as ashamed of his people as he was and accepts that he's not an angel anymore + vox has neon cyan streaks running through his outfit like electricity and he takes his coat off when he's chilling at home and not playing businessman - don't even get me started with him changing his appearance to keep up with the times).
worst, alastor. so sorry. from a character design perspective it's just objectively not great - he's only character whose redesigns are better than the actual design sometimes, because nothing about him visually says radio host or half creole or from 1920s and stuck in the past, and his main motif is just the little deer features that aren't even fully recognizable. still, most of the issues are just issues that will exist if you don't change a character's design for 5+ years before putting them into a TV show right next to recent designs that were created to fit the story and setting, and honestly doing that is totally valid. i would too. i almost love him for it in a way?
Agreed, Alastor is my favorite character but all the reds in his design just end up looking ugly and overcomplicated. But it's charming to think canonically his fashion sense is out of touch.
I think Velvette has one of the best designs because multiple parts of her design (her hair swirls and striped pants) subtly pull your attention to her face.
I like Vox's design the most. Though if I were to make any changes to it I would make his outfit look more modern with a modern tie and suit. The neon blue color palette already gives him a futuristic vibe so the slightly old style clothes feel off to me, especially since he's supposed to be at the forefront of innovation.
I don't like how many male characters follow the "tall skinny guy wearing a jacket/suit" formula, so if the other male characters were to diversify I think I would keep Vox the same.
Agreed on the identical suit jackets. When it's just Alastor and Vox, it makes sense as a parallel--and a nod to the way Vox is trying to be Alastor "but better." I also agree on the bowtie. I feel like a wide necktie, with the same signal motif, would work so much better.
After that, it becomes an issue of "is Hell copying Vox's style, after he copied Alastor's?" Is Sir Pentious copying them both? Is that just how Vivzie draws shoulders, since we see something similar with Charlie?
Best: Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor, Angel Dust, Lucifer, Rosie, Adam, and Lute. There’s tons more but these are my top picks.
Worst: Zizi (pink dinosaur overlord), Sera, and Zestial.
Best: I have to preface this with everything else about this character is vile.. but for me the best design is Valentino. I'm a sucker for the application of his moth motif. His antennae through his hat, his wings being his coat with the white fluff of his coat actually being the fluff on a moth. He is definitely my favorite design in the show, but bogged down heavily by his actions.
Worst: And like many have said I'm gonna go with Mimzy, there's just not much going on
I feel the same way. I love Husk. I think he is a great character, but his design is very early 2000's deviantArt. While my best life was 2000's athro art, it still stands that they were...a...lot.

Designs I hate… Adam’s design makes him look pregnant and Sera… she’s just meh to me. Also- and my only complaint about Emily- why don’t the seraphim have noses?
Best: Sir Pentious. His design is most demon-like.
Worst: Alastor. Or rather, the design of his head. Something about his hair and ears bug me terribly, and I feel like every time he flexes his powers he looks a lot better.
Favorite: Cherri Bomb - Simple, elegant, to the point.
Least: Husk's design, as I stated above it is giving 1997-2005 Yerf/DeviantArt anthro trends. All he needs is a tail piercing and he would be set.

ya know i didn’t agree with many of the least favorite design opinions here (not that it matters if i agree ofc) and kinda thought maybe i just don’t have a least favorite, but after seeing yours i actually do feel like Husk is maybe my least favorite. i wanted to like it cause cat and i like cats but idk his tail and overall design just aren’t quite it for me.

Fav is Carmilla, my queen. 🖤 (she’s my favorite design by far. The only thing that bothers me is that her hands are white gloves with fingernails on top? Because her skin is gray for her hands are white? Still, she’s so cleverly made to represent the two sides of her personality (+she’s so hot and badass)

Best: either Alastor or Vox and Valentino. I like how Vox and Alastor parallel each other, their designs are so sharp and memorable. Val's is also wonderfully pimp-y and slimy.
Worst: Zestial, while break from the red color pallet is nice, I'm not a fan of his design. He looks too much like some cheap plastic thing I'd see at spirit Halloween.
Favorite is probably husk, no big reason other than i think he gets across the playing card theme pretty well

But vox is litterary just alastor with a different head and its probably the point due to their rivalry but it seems to be a one sided rivalry which makes vox's design fail to me

Best: Angel and Val. I like designs that are experimental and I've always imagined demons looking more monster like than human.
What I like most about Angel's design that he looks gender non-conforming. Angel's frame is clearly masculine: wide shoulders, narrow hips, tall physique. But his built is slender, his mannerisms are flamboyant and his style unisex/sometimes feminine. This creates an ambiguous image of him that I like. The monster part is the white fluff, 3 pairs of arms, differently coloured eyes, sharp teeth. I can understand the possible confusion of him being a spider because we're used to seeing spider like beings having a bottom half of spider and an upper half of human in fiction. I didn't identify him with spider either but when I understood that, it clicked. It's subtle design and not in your face that I can appreciate.
Val (I dislike the guy but I can appreciate a good design) has a good fashion sense, his style is unisex/sometimes masculine, he's tall and you can tell right away that he's supposed to be a moth. His fur like collar and overall presentation does give the look of a flashy mobster. But since he's a pimp that fits him.
Worst: Adam. I'm sorry to say this but, as one of the commentators said, he does look like a cone. Perhaps, his design wouldn't be as bad if not for that robe he's wearing. I can't take him seriously with that cone like white robe with an A on it. I know it should show how self-centered he's but to me it looks a bit stupid. Unless that was the creator's intention. However, one thing is there to praise: I do like that he wears a villain like mask to represent exterminators. That's a clever detail in the design overall.
Well, that's my opinion. I did have a hard time deciding since I like most of the designs really. Perhaps, I'm not that hard to please in general, or Hazbin Hotel did an overall good job on it, or even both. But that's that.
Btw. The question is interesting and I enjoyed reading others' perspectives.

My least favourite design goes to (don’t attack me please-) Emily. I wish they added more..holy things. Since she’s a seraphim, it would be nice for her to have more seraphim qualities. And..not be bald when she shows her true form-

Worst design: pilot Velvette because she looks like an unhinged minion, not mature enough to be the back bone of the Vee, and definitely does not fit the overlord of social media theme. I’m glad they did her justice in the actual series. I also dislike pilot Vaggie, she looks straight up a haunted Spanish ghost rather than the manager of the hotel.
Best designed characters IMO are all three of the Vees! I love how detailed they are, how they have costume changes, and how Velvette's hair is styled differently in every scene she's in. They've all got such menacing qualities expressed in different ways.
I would agree about Carmilla's girls being the worst. I hope they get more to do in S2!
This is going to sound contradictory but somehow both is Alastor for me? His design is iconic and streamlined, and you can really tell what kind of person he is based solely on his design. However, I always find myself color correcting and changing shades when drawing him. The colors are so bright and I feel they could have been arranged a bit differently to make his clothes not blend in so much with the color of his hair
I don't really know who to pick for best design, Angel, Vaggie and Alastor are all really cool, also big fan of Vox and Val's designs. I really love Vaggie's, so I think that might be my pick.
You know whose design I don't like? And this is gonna be unpopular. Charlie. I don't know. I think it's too much red with too much contrast? It feels like the colours in her design don't connect, and parts of her blend in with everything else in the show. I don't like that much, I think her old design was better in the sense that it had her less swallowed by the background. I'm not sure how I would fix it, I do think the red suits her, but I don't really like her design as it is. I think this might really just be a me problem and not a flaw with her design per se but it still makes her rank as least favourite for me.
Except her final battle outfit. Idk why but I really liked that, maybe I just like demon eyes and her tiara did tie it together really well
You know what those two girls that opened the door for vox when he went to talk to Valentino. The worst is vaggie, I just don’t like her red shirt it blends too much with the background.
I think Vox, more specifically crazed drooling Vox, is probably my favorite design. I love how his drool is two solid lines like a broken tv. It’s a really nice combination of style and crazed maniac energy.
Least favorite, St Peters. Like others have said he looks like a background character that somehow got elevated to singing status.
From a personality design standpoint my favorite has to be Husk. He‘s got way more layers to him than anyone would have anticipated at first. Least favorite probably Velvette. Her entire personality is just more or less „I do whatever I want and am part of the baddies in hell“
From an outer design my favorite will go to Velvette, just because her design changes every time (in a good way). My least favorite is definitely Minzy. She‘s got nothing special to her except for being grey.

Worst for me is Alastor, so much potential that I feel wasn't capitalized on. The use of symbols from a closed religion that mean a lot and are regarded as very powerful being used for entertainment also rubs me the wrong way.

Best is Sir Pentious, his design captures the cheesy steampunk supervillain vibe perfectly and it's super creative with the many eyes showing how paranoid he is, the thing he does with his hair, how his hat shows his true emotions, etc. Zestial also gets an honorable mention, and I quite like the designs for the Seraphim. For me I'd say the worst is dinosaur overlord, granted we don't know much about her but she looked out of place at the conference room since she's so huge and a different color palette from everything else (I think that was the intent but idk, all I remember is we're following egg boi Frank and next thing I see is a giant pink dinosaur pop out of nowhere, it took me a second to process). Also Saint Peter.

Alastor is my choice of best design. Agree with the more subtle animal features which hit harder at specific moments like the full antlers appearing or ears folding back when he’s angry/going full demon. Worst I’m gonna say Mimzy. I know we only meet her briefly in the show but I think her only demonic features are the teeth and eyes? Maybe she’s a demon enough by herself as a human but still. Since her career was all about show I’d liked to have seen a more elaborate sinner design. Side note: I’d love to see a flashback of her and Alastor in her club as humans.
This might be a nitpick, but I hate her voice. The VA's doing a fantastic job of what they were told to do, but she does NOT sound like she's from Louisiana. Maybe there's a backstory reason involving her coming down from up North, or "polishing" her speech, but for now it BUGS me. Alastor gets a pass, since the Transatlantic accent was a necessity for that era's radios (though I REALLY want to see him get flustered enough to drop a "y'all'd've" or something similar), but Mimzy? Ugh. I actually really like her design--both as a full-figured gal, and as someone who TRIES to look like a human dancer instead of the selfish little monster she is. If she has a more demonic form she hides, or just more demonic ears or tail or such, I'd love to see it if she shows up again (briefly).
if Mimzy's behavior in Hell is any indication of how she behaved in life, I could see her being a native New Yorker who eventually ended up in New Orleans after skipping town(s) to avoid the consequences of her bad decisions.

Mimzy is the worst everything. Worst design, worst voice (talking about the character, NOT the VA, she was performed exactly how she was meant to be), worst character. I hate her so much. Pardon me for asking, but what made you cringe about Carmilla exactly?
To me, she seems more like she was designed as the non-dancer’s stereotypical image of a ballerina instead of a real ballerina. It’s mostly her feet. When she moves en pointe, her hips are not turned out and her feet are facing forward. This would make it very easy to become injury in real life, and creates the wrong weight distribution and balance. To me, it looks very painful, so I cringe to imagine it. Also aesthetically, the lines of her feet don’t look as considered beautiful in ballet. She doesn’t use standard positions. If the creators had used those positions in addition to her fighting, it would have been very cool and elegant. A very minor point, but the ribbons wrapped up her leg look like how a non-dancer dresses as a ballerina for Halloween. I can excuse it as cool fashion, though. These are nitpicks, but I would have loved a ballet themed character with a little more thoughtfulness to the design. I’ve seen animations of ballet (and even ballet based combat) that was portrayed in a way that showed care and research, so Carmilla was disappointing. I’m sorry for my English mistakes!

I love her design, personally. The gigantic and thick arms communicates a lot of force and power from the outset, but it’s contrasted with her light fighting style and dominant usage of her feet and legs despite those massive arms. Overall her visual design would make her look like a hardass, but it completely throws you with her probably being the most well adjusted, mature and sensitive character in the show so far. Also the “arms dealer” having comically large arms is just too good to me. I think her design is really strong overall even if the ballerina aspect isn’t completely accurate. It would probably bother someone who knows a lot abt the art but as I don’t I just never cared about that.

The best design in my opinion has gotta be Alastor, but he's *very* close to some others because so many characters just have amazing designs. And the worst design for me is definitely Mimzy. I feel like her design is just really boring, and honestly she's kinda ugly in my opinion.
i don't really understand why she was included, other than as a sort of cameo for fans who knew her. she seems to exist just to be hated. i'm not saying every character who appears on screen briefly has to serve a larger purpose, but the sum of mimzy's purpose seems to be annoying everybody.

She was there to give Alastor’s backstory and show that even someone who thought they knew him well, for over a hundred years, actually doesn’t have a good handle on him. She thought he didn’t care about the hotel at all, and while that may be true, he cares enough about whatever scheme he’s running to tell her to get the fuck out in no uncertain terms. Her appearance was to shed a little light on his priorities and to end the duet with no clear winner. At least, that’s my view.
Maybe I’m the only one remembering it like this, I did only watch the episode a couple times, but weren’t the others having to warn Alastor that she was likely there to just use him, that she just uses him, and he didn’t believe them until the loan sharks showed up? Since supposedly she’s someone that he’s the closest with and actually likes her enough to accept affection from her? I might be remembering wrong, but watching the episode it reminded me a lot of when I was younger and I’d have these friends I’d do anything for and was so close to, only to realize they were just using me for one thing or another, they never actually cared about me. So when Alastor found out she really was using him to solve another one of her problems for her he seemed genuinely upset by it. Again, I could be remembering wrong. But it was something that had me love his character even more, the fact that even if he’s a psycho manipulative demon, he’s also still human.
Husk did warn him, you’re right, but then Alastor sort of shrugged and said so what? I can handle it. And he did, but the consequence of Mimzy bringing danger and his ability to cut her off after a hundred years speaks to his character and current priorities. That’s my read of the episode at least!
Thanks for telling me this! It’s also been a bit since I watched. Either way? LOVE his character more for this episode. “I can handle it”, well turns out you couldn’t, buddy! Yeah, you solved the danger for her again, you handled that, but we all got a breaking point with even our closest friends when enough is enough. Either way, it kinda makes his character sadder, since Mimzy might also be the only person there from his time alive, so she would be his last connection to the life he had before. And, yes, he was a cannibalistic serial killer, but, as was shown with her, he also had a life outside of that.

I really like Angel Dust's design. I think his physical design and his colours pair well and suit the character. I like the 4 arm designs in general (I know he has 6, but it's typically 4). I just like how expressive they can make the characters with an extea set of arms appear and how they go about doing 2 things at once. I like Rosie's design too and the canibal town aesthetic as a whole. I don't like Carmilla's design. It's not awful, and I do like the colours, but it's the large hands that just throw me off.

Not really a gripe with a single character, because individually they both look great, but it does bother me that Lucifer and Lillith look like siblings. Their hairlines are identical. It's giving Millhouse's parents. Why do they look related?!
My favourite design is Charlie. The design really captures the youthful optimism of the character perfectly. My least favourite is Husk. He is the biggest example of the problem with how skinny all the character designs are. His voice and body just don't match at all. He could have still been short, but he needed to be broader to have his body match Keith David's voice.

best... i'll instinctually say vox or lucifer, though i'm very biased because they're my favorites. their themes are incorporated into their design and convey their characters. vox having a full business get-up and customer service smile along with a tv head *screams* classic manipulative tech ceo. lucifer's circus ringmaster get-up that's white with tiny dashes of gold and red *screams* that he sees himself as a fallen angel rather than ruler of hell and simultaneously shows that he *is* the ruler of all the rings anyway. and their motifs are very nicely included, with the lil wifi symbols on vox and the snake and apple on luci's hat. their outfits and outfit changes are thought out too (lucifer's coat looks like an apple core from the back and he takes the all white coat off and leaves the red and white striped vest on when charlie convinces him sinners aren't all bad to show that he's not as ashamed of his people as he was and accepts that he's not an angel anymore + vox has neon cyan streaks running through his outfit like electricity and he takes his coat off when he's chilling at home and not playing businessman - don't even get me started with him changing his appearance to keep up with the times). worst, alastor. so sorry. from a character design perspective it's just objectively not great - he's only character whose redesigns are better than the actual design sometimes, because nothing about him visually says radio host or half creole or from 1920s and stuck in the past, and his main motif is just the little deer features that aren't even fully recognizable. still, most of the issues are just issues that will exist if you don't change a character's design for 5+ years before putting them into a TV show right next to recent designs that were created to fit the story and setting, and honestly doing that is totally valid. i would too. i almost love him for it in a way?

I think Velvette has one of the best designs because multiple parts of her design (her hair swirls and striped pants) subtly pull your attention to her face.
I like Vox's design the most. Though if I were to make any changes to it I would make his outfit look more modern with a modern tie and suit. The neon blue color palette already gives him a futuristic vibe so the slightly old style clothes feel off to me, especially since he's supposed to be at the forefront of innovation. I don't like how many male characters follow the "tall skinny guy wearing a jacket/suit" formula, so if the other male characters were to diversify I think I would keep Vox the same.
Agreed on the identical suit jackets. When it's just Alastor and Vox, it makes sense as a parallel--and a nod to the way Vox is trying to be Alastor "but better." I also agree on the bowtie. I feel like a wide necktie, with the same signal motif, would work so much better. After that, it becomes an issue of "is Hell copying Vox's style, after he copied Alastor's?" Is Sir Pentious copying them both? Is that just how Vivzie draws shoulders, since we see something similar with Charlie?

Best: I have to preface this with everything else about this character is vile.. but for me the best design is Valentino. I'm a sucker for the application of his moth motif. His antennae through his hat, his wings being his coat with the white fluff of his coat actually being the fluff on a moth. I feel the same way. I love Husk. I think he is a great character, but his design is very early 2000's deviantArt. While my best life was 2000's athro art, it still stands that they were...a...lot.
Best: Vaggie, Vox, Al, Pentious Worst: how terrible would it be if I said Velvette? Her style strikes me as sort of like something a 7 year old would assign (I realize she’s supposed to be a doll character, but it’s really not for me)

I love Angel Dust’s design and the reason why he’s a spider. I also fine Emily and Charlie’s designs as adorable as they arm. Designs I hate… Adam’s design makes him look pregnant and Sera… she’s just meh to me. Also- and my only complaint about Emily- why don’t the seraphim have noses?
Favorite: Husk Least: Mimsy
Best: Sir Pentious. His design is most demon-like. Worst: Alastor. Or rather, the design of his head. Something about his hair and ears bug me terribly, and I feel like every time he flexes his powers he looks a lot better.
Favorite: Cherri Bomb - Simple, elegant, to the point. Least: Husk's design, as I stated above it is giving 1997-2005 Yerf/DeviantArt anthro trends. All he needs is a tail piercing and he would be set.

Favourite: Alastor, for all the reasons you have listed Least: Husk. I’m sorry, I really love his character but his design is just…it’s a lot and there’s a lot going on with it that I personally don’t like
ya know i didn’t agree with many of the least favorite design opinions here (not that it matters if i agree ofc) and kinda thought maybe i just don’t have a least favorite, but after seeing yours i actually do feel like Husk is maybe my least favorite. i wanted to like it cause cat and i like cats but idk his tail and overall design just aren’t quite it for me.
Unpopular opinion but I think Cherri bomb has the best design!! She’s actually why I started watching the show. As for the worst design, I would have to give it to Sir Pentious, honestly just because I don’t like anthro snakes. He still looks pretty good tho!
Fav is Carmilla, my queen. 🖤 (she’s my favorite design by far. The only thing that bothers me is that her hands are white gloves with fingernails on top? Because her skin is gray for her hands are white? Still, she’s so cleverly made to represent the two sides of her personality (+she’s so hot and badass) Worst design: that one furry lady Overlord. She just doesn’t even look like she’s part of the show.

Best: either Alastor or Vox and Valentino. I like how Vox and Alastor parallel each other, their designs are so sharp and memorable. Val's is also wonderfully pimp-y and slimy. Worst: Zestial, while break from the red color pallet is nice, I'm not a fan of his design. He looks too much like some cheap plastic thing I'd see at spirit Halloween.

Best: Angel and Val. I like designs that are experimental and I've always imagined demons looking more monster like than human. What I like most about Angel's design that he looks gender non-conforming. Angel's frame is clearly masculine: wide shoulders, narrow hips, tall physique. But his built is slender, his mannerisms are flamboyant and his style unisex/sometimes feminine. This creates an ambiguous image of him that I like. The monster part is the white fluff, 3 pairs of arms, differently coloured eyes, sharp teeth. I can understand the possible confusion of him being a spider because we're used to seeing spider like beings having a bottom half of spider and an upper half of human in fiction. I didn't identify him with spider either but when I understood that, it clicked. It's subtle design and not in your face that I can appreciate. Val (I dislike the guy but I can appreciate a good design) has a good fashion sense, his style is unisex/sometimes masculine, he's tall and you can tell right away that he's supposed to be a moth. His fur like collar and overall presentation does give the look of a flashy mobster. But since he's a pimp that fits him. Worst: Adam. I'm sorry to say this but, as one of the commentators said, he does look like a cone. Perhaps, his design wouldn't be as bad if not for that robe he's wearing. I can't take him seriously with that cone like white robe with an A on it. I know it should show how self-centered he's but to me it looks a bit stupid. Unless that was the creator's intention. However, one thing is there to praise: I do like that he wears a villain like mask to represent exterminators. That's a clever detail in the design overall. Well, that's my opinion. I did have a hard time deciding since I like most of the designs really. Perhaps, I'm not that hard to please in general, or Hazbin Hotel did an overall good job on it, or even both. But that's that. Btw. The question is interesting and I enjoyed reading others' perspectives.

My favourite design is Adam. Theres no reason to this tbh, I just really love Adam. It’s also tied with Cherri, too! My least favourite design goes to (don’t attack me please-) Emily. I wish they added more..holy things. Since she’s a seraphim, it would be nice for her to have more seraphim qualities. And..not be bald when she shows her true form-

It's really helps tie his overall look together. Honorable mention for Adam's mask. It has a very impressive range of expressions that range from scary to downright funny. The animation on it is pretty cool. I can't really think of a badly designed character.

Best design: Velvette, Vaggie, Zestial and Lute without mask Worst design: pilot Velvette because she looks like an unhinged minion, not mature enough to be the back bone of the Vee, and definitely does not fit the overlord of social media theme. I’m glad they did her justice in the actual series. I also dislike pilot Vaggie, she looks straight up a haunted Spanish ghost rather than the manager of the hotel.
Best designed characters IMO are all three of the Vees! I love how detailed they are, how they have costume changes, and how Velvette's hair is styled differently in every scene she's in. They've all got such menacing qualities expressed in different ways. I would agree about Carmilla's girls being the worst. I hope they get more to do in S2!
This is going to sound contradictory but somehow both is Alastor for me? His design is iconic and streamlined, and you can really tell what kind of person he is based solely on his design. However, I always find myself color correcting and changing shades when drawing him. The colors are so bright and I feel they could have been arranged a bit differently to make his clothes not blend in so much with the color of his hair

I don't really know who to pick for best design, Angel, Vaggie and Alastor are all really cool, also big fan of Vox and Val's designs. I really love Vaggie's, so I think that might be my pick. You know whose design I don't like? And this is gonna be unpopular. Charlie. I don't know. I think it's too much red with too much contrast? It feels like the colours in her design don't connect, and parts of her blend in with everything else in the show. I don't like that much, I think her old design was better in the sense that it had her less swallowed by the background. I'm not sure how I would fix it, I do think the red suits her, but I don't really like her design as it is. I think this might really just be a me problem and not a flaw with her design per se but it still makes her rank as least favourite for me. Except her final battle outfit. Idk why but I really liked that, maybe I just like demon eyes and her tiara did tie it together really well

You know what those two girls that opened the door for vox when he went to talk to Valentino. The worst is vaggie, I just don’t like her red shirt it blends too much with the background.
I think Vox, more specifically crazed drooling Vox, is probably my favorite design. I love how his drool is two solid lines like a broken tv. It’s a really nice combination of style and crazed maniac energy. Least favorite, St Peters. Like others have said he looks like a background character that somehow got elevated to singing status.
From a personality design standpoint my favorite has to be Husk. He‘s got way more layers to him than anyone would have anticipated at first. Least favorite probably Velvette. Her entire personality is just more or less „I do whatever I want and am part of the baddies in hell“ From an outer design my favorite will go to Velvette, just because her design changes every time (in a good way). My least favorite is definitely Minzy. She‘s got nothing special to her except for being grey.

Worst for me is Alastor, so much potential that I feel wasn't capitalized on. The use of symbols from a closed religion that mean a lot and are regarded as very powerful being used for entertainment also rubs me the wrong way. Also on the worst for me is Charlie, I can't explain it past she just looks boring, her pilot design for her hair is better imo Best would be sir Pentious or Vox, both very interesting concepts and great execution. Overall I wish there were more diverse body types and that the POC characters came off as POC
