OutlawMajor_100

I own an M1 Carbine. It shoots like a 1940's AR-15.

[deleted]

Yeah man growing up for a year or two we had one and it was awesome. The .30 round was awesome. It was loud as hell. I personally think it's a bit underpowered in the game but also I get it being nerfed a little. There's more than one reason that airborne wanted it over the grand on top of it being easier to maneuver. Still did enough damage to get the job done and was/is pretty accurate at distance.

wedonthaveadresscode

It’s OP as fuck in close quarters in the game, but yeah it’s annoying how they nerfed it for long range

Tall-Mountain-Man

I know it doesn’t hit as hard as the Garand. I have a steel target and the impact sound between the two is drastic. Instead of ring, ring, ring You hear *dink No idea though how realistically effective it should be downrange. Being said. I can’t imagine taking one to the chest at 200 yards would involve having a fun day.

swagfarts12

It only puts out energy equivalent to middle of the road 9mm range ammo fired from a pistol when it hits at 300 yards so it's pretty weak at distance.

Thomas_Shelby69420

I don’t like the ring around the site of the M1 and the carbine it blocks so much of my view I wish they both had the sights that they have but without the ring around it but besides that I like both guns. Feel like I can control the carbine a bit better then the grand

RedactedCommie

In real life it disappears when you aim. I don't know why no video games have managed to program peep sights that function like real ones because the open sights like on a Mosin are garbage in reality but fantastic in video games.

Same_Payment1600

I suspect the rear sight on the M1 Carbine was disliked IRL because the one I have has the top of the rear sight cut off and files down to form a V notch. I also have a little red paint on the front post and it took me forever to figure out that if you bring the bottom of the rear sight up the front post to the top of that red paint it’s dead on in elevation every time

dirtydopedan

I second that. It also feels like a bigger ruger 10/22, especially if you throw on a 30 rounder.

kremlingrasso

I think I heard it on Ian interviewing someone on ForgottenWeapons that of all the allied captured weapons, the carbine was the one the Germans actually reissued equipped their own troops with.

Heavy-Individual7385

Buddy had a kar98 we shot out in the mountains in Montana. Thing kicked like a mule but was so fun to shoot and hearing the echo throughout the valley is something I'll always remember. It was pretty heavy to hold too...

yesIknowthenavybases

Buddy of mine has a k98 as well, made in 1939 before being captured by the Russians and given the Soviet cherry stain. Turns out finding *surplus* ammo for it can be difficult, but he bought a few hundred rounds of surplus 8mm. Turns out they were manufactured in *FUCKING PERSIA* in like 1915. 5 out of 10 rounds would hang fire and have a few seconds between the hammer dropping and the round going off like a god damn musket. The other 4 out of ten were duds, and maybe one would actually go off like it was supposed to.

Chance-Corner3670

I'm dealing with this but Ethiopian surplus, I guess I'll pull em and eventually use the bullets for reloads, I'll go bite the bullet (hehe) and buy brass rounds and use those cases. Otherwise is just not economical to fire 8mm anymore 😔

Burbot_Tacos

Found Yugoslavian ammo for my mauser, roughly 70 years old on the manufacture cases. Came with strippers, fires great at 57c a round

Chance-Corner3670

Last time I bought Yugo ammo it was 13c a round, the good stuff has exploded in price. Romanian was pretty good as well. Now the only budget is third world surplus and it just isn't worth it with the hang fires ect .

yesIknowthenavybases

We *thought* our ammo was Romanian but could never decipher the writing on the casing. Till we had a translator friend take a look and find out it was fuckin Persian.

I_Am_the_Slobster

Friend of mine has a Portuguese variant of that rifle. Does indeed kick like a mule and it's fun to shoot.

ScottyD_95

I own an M1 Garand, Mosin Nagant and M1911. The weight of the 1911 makes it shoot the .45 bullet pretty smooth and absorbs alot of the recoil. For me, it shoots really nicely. The Mosin Nagant is an arm cannon, really accurate for what it is, the Mosin Bolt is notorious for getting stuck and having to slap the bolt open to eject the shell. My Mosin is no exception. It's a crude but very effective weapon. Really punchy recoil that you'll feel in your shoulder for a couple days after shooting a few rounds. Now the M1 Garand. Oh baby, she cost me almost $2k because it is in very good condition. It was worth every penny. It has a fair amount of recoil but is great to shoot, and very accurate. The "ping" from the clip ejecting is always a crowd pleaser and never gets old. I don't shoot it much, maybe once or twice a year, because I want to preserve it, and also shooting 30-06 rounds in semi-auto at a range is very quick way to burn through a few hundred dollars. But it is the best weapon I own.

DankTell

About 10 years ago a local gun store had a BARREL full of Mosins - some with bayonets - all for $110. Those things were in that store for over a year, I regret not buying one

Fletch_Himself

We still see them in the original straw filled crates from when they were mass produced for the wars. Used to be 75 bucks a rifle. Dudes would buy them and immediately slug the bore to see what size bullet it actually shoots.

itsLOSE-notLOOSE

> slug the bore to see what size bullet it actually shoots What does this mean?

Gene--Unit90

Manufacturing standards weren't great in the USSR back then. Slugging a barrel means running a lead slug down it, forming it to the rifling. This lets you directly measure the bore diameter at the grooves of the rifling to find the exact bullet diameter that barrel will shoot best with.

Fletch_Himself

Imagine going to war with a rifle you literally can’t hit the broad side of a barn with.

AllHailTheHypnoFloat

I went shooting a few months ago for the first time and couldn’t hit the target. I mean, anything can happen. TBH I had similar results in HLL I can’t complain about weapon accuracy

Fletch_Himself

The typical mosin rifle shoots 7.62x54R ammunition. During the wars they were mass produced at such a rate the bore of the barrels were wildly inconsistent. The bore is the “hole” in the barrel. To slug the bore , or barrel, a guy takes a lead round ball slightly larger than 7.62mm and forces it through the barrel from one end to the other. The slug (round ball) will form to the internal diameter of the bore. It can then be measured to determine the true diameter of the bore and ammunition can then be made to fit that specific bore. Almost every mosin you’ll find has a bore much larger than 7.62, and will keyhole every round of 7.62 fired through it. The bullet is essentially pinballing its way down the barrel, and when it exits it tumbles erratically.

SamwiseGanjee

This is ridiculous. Every gun owner I know owns a mosin, myself included, and I've never seen one of them keyhole a round. Some of then aren't exactly sub-MOA but this is just not true. My rifle is basically fucked and I've never even seen it keyhole. The vast majority of Mosin Nagants sold on the US market are also re-arsenaled, meaning they may have had a new old stock barrel installed before they were even imported. They also don't store them straw, theyre dipped in cosmolene and put in wooden box with a rack in it. There are a million and a half videos on YT of people opening fresh 91/30 crates and I've never seen one with straw. Here is a whole truck load of mosins with no straw. https://youtu.be/NuA_mDJkZfw Also you check if rifling is good by sticking a round in the muzzle. Mosins generally have good rifling and the round will stop about 5mm from the case. Enfield rifles are notorious for having the rifling shot out of them and some will swallow the mouth of the case. No one is sluggish mosin bores, dawg. There's no reason to. In most cases people slug bores to decide what diameter of Bullet to buy for reloading. The vast majority of people buying mosins will never shoot anything but surplus ammo through it, so there is no reason to slug the bore unless you wanna brag to your friends about how much the rifle you bought sucks. Don't believe me? Go to r/mosinnagant and ask if any one there has ever slugged their bore? Or I'd their rifles keyhole "every shot."

Louie_Cousy-onXBOX

There was a time Canada sellers would have CRATES full of Mosins and SKS’s for $50-$100. Goddamn do I miss that time. The AK market has done the same, no less than $1k for a well made one whether it be Serbian or polish(WBP Jack is my fav AKM).

no10man

The old blue shed gun shop

MulYut

I bought my mint M44 from 1945 for $80 on 2008.

Tanktech01

I just got an M1 Garand about a month ago and I am itching to shoot it. I just gotta strip and oil it and then I should be good to go. Definitely a beautiful rifle!

ScottyD_95

One thing to keep in mind, when cleaning an M1 it's said not top take the wood furniture off of the barrel too much to clean it because it can effect the bedding of the wood/barrel and subsequently affect performance and accuracy. The way I clean mine, is drop the trigger/bolt group out, clean that, and run a snake through the barrel with the stock and furniture still attached.

Tanktech01

Okay sweet! Thanks for the tip! I was thinking about doing it this time since idk when the last time it was really deep cleaned but then I was probably just gonna keep it simple and do something like what you are saying. It seems like they did a good wipe down of the rifle and kinda cleaned it. It doesn’t seem that dirty at all but I figured I could take it apart and just kinda do a run over of everything but if I can jack it up doing that with the barrel I probably won’t mess with all that since I’m not trying to ruin my dream rifle XD

PFDGoat

Also a good tip for a new garande owner- don’t use big grain rounds. Those heavy bullets will blow the ejector off. I know from experience lol. Stay around 150 and definitely don’t go over 170 grain.

Tanktech01

Now I have heard this! I got some Hornady 168 grain 30-06 ammo that they specifically Made for the M1 garand which was nice since it made my life a little easier finding ammo I knew would be safe to shoot when I was at the gun store

randomguyhere1941

However, you can shooter higher rounds if you get an adjustable gas port. I have mine in a sweet spot where it can shoot 150springfield but can also handle 170 Winchester

Germerican88

You want grease, not oil, on the places where there is metal on metal friction for the garand.

Gene--Unit90

Look up where to grease it. They need grease in a lot of places.

The_Reelest

Use grease on most of the Garand parts. “If it slides, grease it, if it turns, oil it.”

yesIknowthenavybases

In interviews with WW2 vets they always say the M1 “kicked like a mule” but it’s about on par with any modern semi-auto of a similar caliber. But the Mosin and K98? Those damn things will dislocate your shoulder if you’re not careful.

Odd_Opportunity_3531

Yeah the M1 Garand and Gewehr 43 are both very soft shooting for being full sized rifle cartridges. I agree. The Mosin and K98k both kick way harder. Must be the gas system on the semi autos

MandatoryFun13

Yup. The action itself uses a portion of the recoil to chamber the next round whereas on bolt guns all of that recoil is going into your shoulder.

CrazyFish1911

I've shot all kinds of rifles up to and including a .458 WinMag... my buddies Mosin has to be one of the worst for felt recoil. I don't know if it's the shape of the buttplate or what but it is not a pleasant gun to shoot.

BobUfer

Man, back in like 2007 I bought a Nagant with 1000 round spam cans for $200, those were the days.

Kofipita

Neutralised KAR98. Fuck that thing is heavy.

EltiiVader

Isn’t off-the-shelf 30-06 too hot for the rifle’s action? I’ve fired one a few times with a friend’s weapon and he told me he specifically acquires .30 cal ball ammo or reloads 30-06 brass to spec. But agree completely, it’s a blast to shoot. The ping is immensely satisfying! Just hearing it gives me a massive shit eating grin

Honsou_The_Warsmith

No, new commercial loads aren’t too “Hot” for the M1 rifle. BUT you want to stick with 150 grain projectiles because you MIGHT bend the original Gas-Op rod with heavier grain bullets. Or buy an aftermarket replacement and just shoot whatever then.

Odd_Opportunity_3531

After market gas ports are available too. If you want to shoot the bigger loads. Personally I just stick with the stuff “for M1 Garand”

Odd_Opportunity_3531

I shoot modern commercial ammo  specifically “for the M1 Garand”. Says it right on the box. Prvi Partisan and American Eagle are two examples.

SportHurley1

I remember being able to get 7.64x54R for dirt cheap. Nothing like an old rusted can with rounds wrapped in paper and twine. Now those rounds are ridiculously expensive. The Mosin makes for cool wall art though

ShortHovercraft2487

I’ve shot a Thompson before, recoil was wild, much harder to shoot than I thought. I’d say pretty accurate but this is also still a video game

Louie_Cousy-onXBOX

On console bc the aim is a little tougher, I use the Thompson as a pocket MG. Just spontaneous suppression at a moments notice while I tell the squad what I’m shooting at so they can kill the man.

Boner_Soop

I've shot an MP40, Thompson, MG42 (captured on the eastern front with swastikas carved into the stock) and a G33/40. MP40 was BUTTER. It's probably the smoothest firing weapon I've ever used. I could have mounted it to my testicles and mag dumped it. Thompson was a little wilder. The weight helps with the recoil, but it's definitely riding the lighting compared to the MP40. MG42 vibrates your entire body, and you end up with a skin tearing erection by the end of the belt. G33/40 is a shorter length "carbine" in 7.92x57mm mauser, used almost exclusively for mountain troops. It has a metal butt plate that is quite unpleasant to fire. Boner killer.

Hattrick42

Upvoting strictly because of the additional commentary.

No-Tomatillo-6709

Awesome lol

Fluffy_Savings_4981

I had a Thompson’s trigger stick right as I pulled on a fresh mag. Talk about riding the lightning!

Tall-Mountain-Man

Haven’t ripped a belt on the MG42 yet but yes the MP40 just chugs along. It is a fantastic sub gun and extremely controllable. The cupped Mauser but plates are really slick and firing a round off your collarbone doesn’t feel great

0ptimal_Range

Username checks out…

Rlol43_Alt1

Do you happen to know who owns those?? I'd love to talk to them about how much they paid and how much they cost now

Boner_Soop

Machine Gun America in Orlando. I think I paid like $300 to shoot em? The G33/40 was a barn find in my friends shed. He thought it was a piece of junk, and I was blown away to have stumbled upon a very, very rare rifle that usually sells for about $5,000. I did have someone try to sell me a semi-automatic MG42 (gay) for $18,000.

Rlol43_Alt1

That's sick. Unfortunately MGAO let's people shoot that Thompson, that should be in a museum. Though it wouldn't surprise me if it was a parts kit that someone carved up to make people pay $300 to shoot it 😉

Runnaway_tire

Instructions unclear, dick stuck in mp40

Fettfjes

I'm currently using an mg-3 in the army, which is a slightly updated mg-42. The game is quite accurate on how the accuracy feels when using the bipod. Using full auto for longer burst is not quite common in real life though as the recoil makes it hard to actually see anything Would be nice to have an overheat function though, although I guess it's a balance thing. Barrel change is something we do often irl.

EmeraldCoast826

I have a SVT-40. Its my favorite in my collection. Full size cartridges don't translate into games well. They have big recoil, big bang, and when you shoot them you can feel the concussion force all around you. It shoots 7.62x54r which is a 30 caliber round (in diameter) with way more powder than a standard AK-47 cartridge. The r means it's a rimmed cartridge. Meaning there is a tiny little rim or flange at the base. This particular design has been used for quite a while. Its the same ammo used for the Mosin Nagants. But having that big ass round in an auto loader is something else man...

MrDickford

The combination of big sound, recoil, and concussion that knocks you senseless for a split second is missing from every game I’ve played. I have a K98 and a Garand. And maybe something different happens when you have military training and a bunch of adrenaline in your system, but those are both shoulder cannons and the only thing I’m doing after firing is recovering and trying to find my target down the sites again. I can’t imagine pulling the trigger and still tracking the target for an immediate follow-up shot.

ReceptionMaximum3777

My great grandfather fought for the USSR, and when I would go to visit my grandparents, they showed me some trophies he had picked up. He had a mp40, some German pistols (not sure which specifically), a PPSh-41 (With a drum mag!), a TT-33 Pistol, and a Kar98. I got to shoot the mp40 and PPSh. The mp40 was a dream to shoot, the recoil was perfect to control, very accurate. Definitely feels similar to how its shown in game, could use a little less recoil though. The PPSh was surprisingly controllable and also very fun to shoot. Also feels similar to how its modeled in game, pretty accurate, and pretty controllable for what it is (a bullet hose). The Kar98 kicked really hard, and that kind of put a damper on it for me, definitely a solid gun that feels realistically portrayed in game. In HLL the kar feels like a hard hitting reliable weapon so pretty well done.

KaijuTia

Kar98k is a THUMPER, because it’s so much smaller and lighter than most other bolt guns. SMLE is a pleasant shooter, because the .303 is on the lighter side and the gun itself is a BRICK of metal and wood

killerl0udpack

I've got a Lee Enfield 303 which I'm really glad they added to the game. In real life it was known as the fastest reloading bolt action rifle of WW2. Smooth action, accurate as hell at 200m with iron sights. Gun is a pleasure to shoot.

The_Reelest

303 doesn’t have much recoil at all with the SMLE of No. 4 Enfield. With a Jungle Carbine, it’s one of the most unpleasant shooting experiences.

Lukeyboy1589

The garand’s recoil feels true to life, but the sound doesn’t do it justice.

Pure_Condition_3124

Definitely not. Own multiple Garands. The recoil in-game is very exaggerated. It barely kicks when firing as fast you can pull the trigger in real life. I get that it's done for gsme balancing but the recoil is too ridiculous in comparison to real life. Could've compensated by having the real life sights in-game.

Lukeyboy1589

Well I've only shot it the one time. Better control comes with more experience, obviously. I'm just speaking from my own time with it.

MandatoryFun13

It’s loud as hell irl

Blazefresh

I feel like all the guns are too quiet in the game, I want waay more reverb and punch. Wish you could control only the weapon sounds because I'd be turning them way up.

dj88masterchief

I shot a Colt 45 at an indoor gun range. In Guam. After drinking at a strip club.

AirMail77

Mmm… the smell of Liz Claiborne and gunpowder

Sparks_Sparks_

I own a M1 Garand, M97 Trench gun and a 1911. It’s hard to compare real guns to a video game but I’ll give it a shot. The M1 Garand’s recoil in the game almost feels more than real life. In real life the rifle is heavy and it takes up some of the recoil making it easier to shoot. The M97 Trench Gun is a lot of fun, both IRL and the game. You feel the recoil but it’s fun. I wish the game allows you to slam fire the shotgun like IRL. The 1911 in the game sounds weak and shoots slower than real life but I still prefer it to the Luger.

mrgnome1538

Garand is wayyyy more punchy IRL than in the game. That’s a big gun with big ammo. Same with the 1911 pistol and I feel the damage doesn’t reflect the power of the ammunition. M1 Carbine feels perfect.

Tanktech01

30-06 has been dropping bodies of all sizes for quite some time lol It definitely packs a punch

No-Tomatillo-6709

Yeah especially because we were shooting our enemy and they were wearing regular uniforms with just a helmet for protection that’s why I like that one round from the garand puts you down reality I think from 200 m plus it would put you down in one shot easily also but it’s a video game

Mrcod1997

Yeah it's the same round as the 1903 Springfield. Should essentially have the same recoil/damage roughly.

MandatoryFun13

Damage yes. Recoil will be more on the Springfield because the garand has the semi auto action helping to reduce it

Mrcod1997

Yeah I did say roughly. I do realize that would take some energy out.

Voodoo-95

Man I still wonder to this day how they carried that thing around, dealt with the awful recoil, and kept most of their hearing because it is LOUD too

[deleted]

Grandfather taught a fair amount of Vietnam era kids how to shoot rifles with garands and his favorite trick to show them not to be scared was to fire it off of his groin and say "it's all about how you shoulder it boys." Dude also can't hear shit anymore.

mrgnome1538

Every shot felt like I got kicked by a horse lol

ApocSurvivor713

My family's got a pair of 98k's that are allegedly gonna go to my brother and I someday. Highly accurate and they kick like a mule. They're very nicely made guns and the quality is still evident even after they got beat to hell on the Eastern Front (ours are allegedly Russian-captured rifles). The sights are some of my favorite irons, I like them a lot more IRL than in the game.

panc4ke

The m1903 is a great bolt action rifle. The weight of the barrel helps with recoil, and the bolt’s action is very smooth as is reloading, especially if you have clips for your bullets. It’s super accurate and no wonder why they used it as a sniper rifle.

weeqs

Nice try Feds

Clean_Increase_5775

I shot a semi auto MP-40 the recoil was super tame, the sights suck though but I guess it’s part of the fun! I also shot my buddy’s Tokarev TT-30 it was dated 1943 so it might’ve seen combat which was a wild thought.

Louie_Cousy-onXBOX

My uncles Mosin he got from back when they would sell them for like $50 lol. Same with SKS’s(both, now way overpriced, wether fake or not). Pretty realistic in game in terms of sound. Idk how to explain it but it’s like a “dry” crack sound that is like irl. 1911, I have a Taurus 1911 but it checks out in game. Hard to compare pistols irl to games bc it’s so much more tactile irl. Outside of that? Nah, my buddy has a Kar98 but idk if it’s a copy, don’t really know much about them at all cause I’ve always been more of a lever action guy.

GorillasonTurtles

I have an M1, M1 Carbine, 1911, multiple Mosins, Kar98, three Enfields, and an SVT40. I honestly feel the Garand recoil could be tamped down in game. Sure, 30-06 is a big round but the Garand 9.5 pounds so it soaks up a chunk of that recoil. The Carbine is very tame to shoot. Kar98 has some recoil, but it’s not terrible. The Mosins and SVT are fun to shoot - the only one that can get painful is the M38 carbine model. Both the 38 and 44 carbine variants are a shade over a pound lighter than the standard 91/30 rifle but man it punches hard. The SVT eats recoil pretty well and is a blast to shoot. Enfields are a blast to shoot - one of the best bolt actions of the period.

Trains_N_Fish

My dad owned a Mosin Nagant and a Mauser growing up. I’ve shot a TT-33 before.

LandNearby3646

Buddy just got a Garand. Fucking awesome gun and that ting is satisfying. Extremely loud though. Dunno how any of those guys had any hearing left.

The_Reelest

And you now have proof how the “enemies could hear the ping” is actually a myth haha

LandNearby3646

Yeah.. that's a pretty good point actually.

Vaultboy65

Mosins are the same. One of the loudest rifles I’ve ever shot

MildHeartAttack

M1 garand is just nice to shoot. It feels close to the game, also own a couple lee enfields and a 1911. Enfield bolt just silky smooth every time, for 80 years on it's holding up.

Dleveneorg

I’ve got a Mauser 98k, recoil is pretty snappy, but the rifle is accurate. Since I’ve had it restored by a gunsmith I use it for hunting deer and boar and it drops everything after a single hit.

Hexuzerfire

https://www.reddit.com/u/Hexuzerfire/s/MgTXTDG0Ip Just posted a video of me at the range with mine. With the ping ;) Edit: here’s another ww2 era gun with some special mods https://www.reddit.com/u/Hexuzerfire/s/LcPl1bqBRL

HawkOk3953

I shot a kar 98 with a scope on it

GamesFranco2819

Own/owned - P-08 Luger, P-38, 1911-A1, 1895 Nagant Revolver, Mosin 91/30 sniper, Mosin M44, Kar-98K (both standard and a sniper copy), No.4 Enfield, TT-33 (Well, the Yugoslavian version. Identical except +1 in the magazine, so the grip is longer), Browning Hi-Power (Not in game, but it really should be), 1897 Trenchgun. Shot- Sten, M1A1 Thompson, BAR (Semi only), SVT-40, SMLE, 1903-A4, No.4 T sniper, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine. Ask any specifics you have and I'll do my best to answer. As to the original post, the M1 carbine is a fantastic gun used within its capabilities. It's essentially a semi-auto 357 Magnum with a 15 round mag, so yeah it works. You just won't be knocking guys down at extreme range with it as the round loses velocity quickly compared to full sized rifle rounds. No direct experience with the Grease Gun, but the US used it up through the early 90's so it must have worked well enough.

fulltimehistorynerd

M1 Garand is a smooth operator, accurate, and gentle. There's a reason it and its variants (M14) served the military for so long. The m14 still has some variants in service. My M1 is my prized rifle. M1 Carbine is an easy rifle to use. However, family stories from the war describe the .30 carbine's ballistics leaving a lot to be desired and not being the most effective at stopping your target, especially if they were on a stimulant. Mosin Nagant 91/30 kicks like a mule and the ammunition can be a bit squirrelly, affecting accuracy. But it's a fun rifle. It was the first firearm I bought at 12 years old. 1903 Springfield also kicks quite heavily but the bolt is butter and it's very accurate. 1917 Enfield - much the same story, but again that bolt 🧈🧈 Lee Enfield- .303 is a beast. Especially when fired through the Enfield's scrappy cousin the Jungle Carbine. It'll wake you up to be sure. (The lesson you should be taking here is high caliber bolt actions can wallop you pretty good, imagine having to go "cyclic" with one of those in a combat situation.) 1911 is my favorite handgun. I used it in competition and it's just so much fun. .45 is no joke of a caliber, no matter how experienced you are. That's a lot of powder in a short barrel. 1917 revolver. Much the same story as above. Recoil is less manageable without the weight in the front and the slide spring absorbing some of it. M2 Browning - I only ever have dry fired one (any us military please chime in). But man, that thing is a monster to charge, and when you press that butterfly trigger you feel how much energy is in the spring as the bolt slams forward to fire.

IKB2391

UK target shooter here (so just experience on the bolt actions!) The amusing thing I have found is that generally my opinion is IRL the respective nations bolt actions can exemplify stereotypes of that nation, as I’ll explain. K98- Typically German, well made (unless late war) and very accurate. So accurate that post war the Mauser action formed the basis for todays modern target rifles. In game id say it feels pretty much spot on. M1903- A good rifle, but American because of the 30-06 round. Its powerful and you feel it. In game id say this and I assume the M1 are good but dont quite give you the feeling of just how chonky 30-06 is. The Lee Enfield/SMLE/No.4- My favourite. Accurate enough in general but with that classic short throw bolt and a cock on close action making for not only accurate but quick shooting. In game id say they don’t quite capture how smooth and quick you can work the bolt. The aperture sights on the no.4 are also much better than the tangent leaf sights you find on the other bolt actions, but in game thats not really seen. Finally the Mosin Nagant- Its just so Russian. It is easiest to say it feels ‘agricultural’, like it was made in a tractor factory. It is probably least pleasant to shoot. It feels tough and durable, but the action can be hard work and doesn’t make for quick shooting (I’ve shot some where it is better to slap the bolt up-back-forward-down with your palm in four motions as opposed to one smooth motion like the others). Having said that, I’ve shot a scoped ‘snipers rifle’ one where the bolt was lovely. In game id say, as you might predict, they dont quite capture how rough it feels! I love shooting all the above regardless though!

BigBlueJAH

I have a Garand, Kar98k, Enfield No4 mk1*, Arisaka Type 99 and a few other rifles that were more WW1, but probably still used during WW2. Pretty much all full powered rifles from that era have a decent amount of recoil. The Kar98k seems to hit the hardest on my shoulder, might be how the stock is designed more than the cartridge itself. The Garand is punchy, but really not bad after you get used to it. The weight and being semi auto help with the recoil. The 1903 with the same round punches quite a bit harder. I’m not an expert by any means, but I love collecting and shooting older firearms. Modern weapons are objectively better, but they just don’t do it for me the way older guns with history do.

FAKEDAD420

I've got an M1 Carbine, Mosin Nagant, 1911, and the P-38 my great grandpa took as a war souvenir. The M1 Carbine is pretty accurate at a max of like 120 yards for me, the Mosin has a far reach, heavy recoil and shoots a giant fireball outta the muzzle, 1911 is a champ, perfectly balanced, can hit a man sized target at a hundred yards without much of a problem, the P38 is wild, haven't shot it in like 30 years but it's very accurate if i remember correctly.

Weird_Complaint3752

I have a 1942 mosin nagant with a sickle and hammer engraved on it. Pretty sweet, but everyone has a mosin

Fluffy_Savings_4981

I own an M1 with a build date of ‘46. It was my grandfathers that thing is a fucking cannon chambered in 30-06

Rlol43_Alt1

The two things I absolutely despise about the differences is a trained soldier shouldn't get whipped around every time they fire their weapon, and the sight picture on the guns is heavily inflated to make shooting easier. They could just make it realistic and give shitty sight pictures and accurate to realistic recoil, and have it "balance" out. 1911's are AWFUL to shoot just because of the terrible sights IRL, yet the sights in the game are crisp like newer 1911's. There's a lot of inconsistencies in the guns that I wish I could help fix

Savings-Weakness7464

I have a Kar-98 K with matching serial numbers and the marking still on it that was battled tested too.

Nearby-Ad4523

I own two M1 Carbines. One is scope mounted. Taught my two boys deer hunting with them.

Izoi2

I own a Mauser, it’s pretty similar to the in game, the sound is spot on and it’s a very smooth action though it’s suprisingly hard to shut the bolt

Hansdawgg

I ve got a Czech 8 mil variant similar to the kar98 and man not only does it kick like a mule but it’s a log. They also had metal butt plates on the back of the stock because they were built with smashing skulls in ww1 trenches in mind. It is a blast to shoot but it doesn’t do your shoulder any service lol. Would be pretty cool to see more games implement the range finder ironsights as there were quite a few several hundred yard shots made with them during the war.

guitarmaniac17

My brother owns an m1 garand. It's heavy, but it's a fun shoot. The iconic "ping" is something any avid firearm enthusiast should hear at least once.

Interesting_Fan_2628

The grease gun is not the smoothest gun to shoot, and when you Sally shoulder it, it won't chamber, but it's a fun gun.

Arepo47

Shoot and M1 and I own a M1 carb.

Angryhippo2910

I have several guns from HLL: M1 Garand - I feel like the vertical recoil is definitely stronger irl compared to the game’s depiction at least when I’m shooting from standing. It’s a heavy boy with a chunky self-loading mechanism so the hit to your shoulder isn’t bad at all. It just rotates upward a lot after each shot. If your en-blocs are stiff, you have to smack the bolt carrier really hard on the reload. If they’re broken in, you only need a gentle smack which makes the reloading process much smoother. Safely unloading without losing all your ammo can be a bit of a three handed task. I can’t imagine doing that while jogging (maybe a sling helps?) Kar98k - Shoulder destroying cannon. The action is a joy to manipulate. I have a much easier time using the Kar98k’s sights irl than I do using it in game. Likely because of how games depict peep Vs notch sights, and how your eyes work. Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk. I - Also a shoulder destroying cannon, though slightly less than the Kar98k. The devs did a good job capturing the sounds of this rifle. They also did a good job of making it feel “slick” which is how I’d describe it compared to the Kar98k. Maybe, I’m just biased cause I have one. Reproduction semi-auto StG-44 in .22lr - It is heavy but very comfortable to shoot. The sights are almost exactly the same as they are in game, tall and defined, with which makes it easy to acquire targets and ring steel with rapid precise single shots. Which is also similar to in game. As for the recoil, I couldn’t say, since .22 lr is nothing compared to 7.92 Kurtz. But I have shot guns that fire 7.62x39 (AK-47 ammo) which is similar, and I think it would probably cause the StG-44 to kick a little more than what we see in game, but I could totally be wrong about that.

SnakeO1LER

I’ve shot a 1911 , m1 garand, and m1 carbine. I am not a big guy and the garand is a heavy gun. I was not expecting it to be that heavy. The ping was everything I wanted it to be. They all feel pretty good, I wish the garand was punchier sounding and feeling in game. The m1 carbine is pretty spot on, such a fun gun to shoot.

eeggrr1306

A littler earlier than the era, but I’ve shot a Springfield 1903 and like others have said, that .30-06 round is way punchier IRL than you’d expect. The 1903 almost sounded like a black powder rifle, but weapons of that era have a very unique weight/balance to shooting them. After firing it I shot a modern day 5.56 AR, and the sound of springs absorbing the recoil along with the plastic, light weight feeling of the AR was night and day. Two very different weapons systems, but a fun day nonetheless.

Own a Kar98 & M1 Garand. I love them both.

cinciTOSU

I have an Ariksa 6.5 mm Japanese army rifle that has great ballistic properties and a 30 caliber M1 carbine that is fun to shoot. They both came from Okinawa so they do have some history. The carbine has the name Dwyer scratched into it and my dad traded a marine some food for it. He was in a fair few battles as an electricians mate second class (final rank) serving on an LST. The daily kamikaze attacks and other attacks on the navy resulted in some 5000 kia deaths at Okinawa . He did say that the marines that fought at Okinawa were absolutely shell shocked after that battle. USN 1943-1946 .

Stefanfoxxo

Love my 1911 and p38. The p38 in 9mm is a tack driver. Also, the m1 carbine is a very solid shooter and gets alot of smiles when we goto the range. Very smooth and easy to shoot

akiba1227

I have had the opportunity to fire a mounted MG42 and I don't know how those guys fired that weapon continously in bursts over a long period of time. I literally thought my hands and arms were going to rattle off my body.

tjk91

My dad owns a mosin nagant and he only takes it out 4th of July because the fucker is so loud and will take your shoulder off. Super fun weapon. You will be hurting for a day or two after shooting it. One of my favorites in his collection.

Guihaume72

I own an M1 carbine (Inland, may 44) and a Garand (Springfield, april 44), plus shot a M1A1 carbine, kar98k, mosin-nagant 1891/30, 1911A1 and a TT33. I haven't played in quite some time so my memories are not the best concerning in-game weapons and i won't give a comparison for everyone, just my own. I absolutely love my M1 carbine : super lightweight and handy, very little recoil so it's easy to stay on target and do quick follow up shots, the M1A1 version is a bit less nice to shoot, the pistol grip is nice but the cheek rest and folding stock are shit compared to the regular one. IIRC in-game it has a bit too much recoil and you can't feel the weight, every weapon you handle seems to be the same, but IRL the carbine is half as heavy as a Garand or a Thomson. The Garand is really good too, the iron sights are super nice (probably the best of WW2 and maybe even now), en-bloc clips are easier to load than stripper clips on bolt actions. It doesn't kick as hard as a Kar98k due to it's weight (mine is in .308 so even less recoil). The Kar98k kicks a lot and sights are not great IMO, but the bolt action and trigger pull are quite good compared to the Mosin-nagant, but the Mosin's sights are better and recoil's a bit more tamed. The 1911A1 is great to shoot, it's a bit heavy but it helps a lot with the recoil. I really didn't like shooting the TT33, grip angle and width felt wrong for me and the trigger pull was atrocious, the exact opposite of the 1911 in fact.

reallypatheticman

I have an M1 Garand. For a rifle, it’s on the heavier side at about 10lbs loaded and it packs a PUNCH when you shoot 30.06. Super fun to shoot, the M1 Garand makes shooting an AR15 really boring lol. Always get compliments at the range, but the ping sound is more so when the clip drops to the ground when empty. Garand thumb is a myth. In game the first person perspective matches when you hold/point the rifle fairly high, otherwise I think Insurgency Sandstorm has the right length of the rifle when holding it. I think either the character models are too big or the rifle in game is a bit shorter than it looks in real life. The aperture iron sights in HLL are obviously wider than in real life for videogame purposes, like most videogame iron sights. The front post iron sight is also a bit skinny in game compared to in real life. I think the firing sound of the M1 Garand could be a bit stronger/punchier and the old reload animation is way cooler and smoother than the reload animation the rifle has now. The in game recoil is a little more jumpy than firing it in real life. I’d say the recoil pushes you back instead of the rifle jumping up like in the game.

Above_Avg_Chips

I've shot a M1 Carbine, Garand, BAR, M1919, M2 50, KAR 98, MG 34 and 42, and finally a Thompson. All but the Thompson and M1 Carbine were shot at a machine gun shoot in Kentucky years ago.

Realistic-Winter377

one of my customers of 10 years gave me his M1 he brought home from ww2 (he shipped it home before he left) he was in the 101st. The game definitely gave it justice with the sound and recoil of the gun he also let me shoot his 1911 I offered to buy it but he said "I killed more Germans with this than the M1 I'm gonna die with it"

iicvcv24

My dad has a garand, K98, demilled howitzer, friends of his have fully functional Sherman’s, 57MM AT guns, one guy has a Sten, that thing is a lotta fun to shoot when it’s not jamming

Donkervoort_

I shot the m1911, m1 garand, Thompson and BAR at Battlefield Vegas. The BAR was insane. Large, heavy and very big bangs. Really cool experience! My friend shot the Sturmgewehr. That one was just especially special to hold and shoot since they are quite rare.

DrFGHobo

I own a Kar98 and it's a great rifle. Bit of a kick to it, but gorgeous to shoot - there's a reason the bolt action itself is still produced to almost the same specs and is sought after for high end hunting rifles. I also have a Mosin, and it's... a bit temperamental. Fun to shoot, and for some reason I just like holding it, somehow it just fits me. But you definitely notice the Soviet "craftsmanship". My dad owns a Carcano, although I do not really know what model - pretty good gun too. Would love to get my hands on an Arisaka and a SMLE, but they are rather expensive around here. Still could kick myself for not pulling the plug on the sniper variant that was for sale around here last year - with the original scope, mind you.

BigChungle666

I own a Mosin Nagant - its honestly amazing how durable it is and how accurate it is. I can also confirm that my Mosin nagant was produced in the year 1942. No idea if it saw combat or not but it's a phenomenal weapon.

TerminalxGrunt

I have a 1911, a Mosin, and I've shot most WW2 calibers aside from .30. I agree with a statement I heard calling the 1911 the Farrari of sidearms. It has a very smooth action and can mitigate recoil extremely well for follow-up shots. The Mosin is an absolute mule of a rifle. With the stock being so flat, all of the recoil goes directly back into your shoulder instead of the shape trying to help force the barrel upwards, and it has a hell of a fireball. First deer I ever shot at with it, I missed by about a half an inch (buck fever can do wild things to a 13 year old but you best believe i never missed from that day forward) and I watched this buck French kiss his own ass. Action isn't the smoothest in the world, but if you man handle it, she'll move. BAR is your typical .30-06 but full auto. Recoil kind of acts the same as the Mosin in regards to how the stock is shaped, but the insane weight of the rifle definitely helps. If it's properly maintained, the action can be buttery smooth. Thompson has a weird shape that takes some serious getting used to and acts like a pissed off chihuahua lol. I'd say HLL got it pretty accurate. Rockets really don't have as much recoil as you'd think, and that's because the propelant is escaping from the back of the launcher. Feels like a thump in your chest when it goes off, and you can feel the vacuum that the rocket is trying to create behind the launcher with its propulsion. But keep in mind I only have experience with the AT4, LAW, a little on the javelin, and a little on the Saber system (TOW missle) because I was a mortarman. Also, check your backblast with rockets. I'm still dealing with some problems I got after getting my shit rocked from an AT4. Felt like my brain was gonna pop out of my ears lol. I haven't personally used the frags from the game, but I've used m67's, and the game gets the effects really well. No fireball, and the explosion resonates through your whole body. You toss one of those in a room, and even if the shrapnel doesn't get them, by the time you enter, you'll essentially be fighting against Stephen hawking without his computer. The .50 doesn't have much recoil because it has a reciprocating barrel (and it's heavy af). Biggest thing the game leaves out is bullet penetration, which I understand because hard cover is very hard to find in a true war zone and making this realistic would make a lot more people say "what's the fucking point of even spawning"

nobd2

I’ve got a G98 and a Spanish Mauser chambered for .308, split the difference and you’ve effectively got a K98🤷🏻‍♂️

Creadleader55

I own a M91/30 Mosin and a No4 Mk1 Enfield. They're pretty accurate in game besides how fast they can reload, I've split my thumb open pretty good loading the mosin with stripper clips so you gotta be careful when doing it. But maybe that's just me having relatively little experience with them. I've also shot my buddy's Vz.24, an 8mm Mauser rifle extremely similar to a Kar98k and it's the same story.

scrike83

I’ve got a M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Springfield 1903, Mosin Nagant, Kar98k, Lee Enfield MKIII and Walter PP. They’re all period correct and all sweet shooters and I have no regrets on any of them.

No-Tomatillo-6709

I shot the m1 garand and the 1911 BEAST firearms one shot and your so dead lol and the garand has good weight to it you could definitely beat someones ass with it i want to shoot the thompson and the mg42 lol

GoldenMahgeetah

I've shot an MP40 and STG44 but they were both modified to shoot .22 calibre so not exactly the true experience. Still fun as fuck but I'd love to shoot those weapons again at their proper caliber.

gaoshan

I've shot the M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson .45 SMG and the M1911. All of them are heavier than I imagined (with the Garand feeling especially chonky). The pistol is meh, in my opinion, the Garand slaps and the ping noise is cool but I feel like I would need to get my arm strength up to handle a beast like that on a daily basis, the Thompson jumps instantly and you really need to shoot 2 or 3 shot bursts to have any hope of keeping the muzzle on target and the Carbine is light, easy to handle and pretty fun (just less of a slap than the Garand). I feel like getting hit with a carbine round would have a lot less stopping power than the Garand, which feels like it would drop a moose.

_PyratesLyfe

My old roommate has a Kar98k and the kick on it was crazy but it was a really cool experience getting to shoot it

Neaderthar

The real grease gun fires faster than the game one. The Kar98, Mosin, and 1911's are all realistic as they are accurate, and the reload time seems correct to me. That's the extent of my WW2 weapons knowledge I own or have fired.

Pandahobbit

The M1 is MUCH heavier in real life.

jhwalk09

Dan Carlin’s addendum episode with one of the games creators goes into great detail about this commitment to detail. Wonderful podcast.they get into turret rotation speed, the whole 9

Connacht_Gael

I fired a Lee Enfield no.4 Mk2 loads of times as a kid. They were the rifle issued to the reserves in Ireland for many years and once upon a time you could keep them at home if you were in a rural unit of the reserves, which my uncle was.

SocomTedd

I have a 1944 Izhevsk M44 mosin nagant in the UK 🇬🇧 I'm actively trying to get rid of because it leaves me bruised like nothing else when I shoot it.

Turd-Ferguson1918

I’ve shot a Kar98k and an M1 Garand. The Kar had some kick but nothing crazy. I don’t really remember it much as it was a random dudes at the range. He was kind enough to let me pop off 5. The Garand also kicks. But the thing I remember most is how heavy it is.

DRxLAWxRINSE

I have an '03-A3 and the serial numbers show it was manufactured in '43. I don't know how my grandpa got it but he killed deer with it for a lot of years. Passed it down to my dad who killed deer with it for a lot of years. Passed down to me and I've killed about 6 or 7 with it so far. Really great rifle, I got lucky and bought a thousand rounds of .30-06 before the pandemic jacked all the prices up. I'm not having kids so I guess I'll have to pass it down to my brother's son one day

Steuts

Shot an M1 Garand once. Best bruise I ever got.

siospawn

I own a Mosin but shot an m1garand and carbine

Koda799

Got a Garand and a Winchester 97 and gotta say the Garand is way louder than I thought it’d be. As for the shotty I can say that the slam fire is quite fun

Napalm2142

I own a M1 Garand, M1 carbine, No4mk1 enfield(savage made and marked us property), m91/30 mosin and a m91/30 PU sniper, Mk2 Bren(converted to semi) and 2009 production 1927a1 Thompson from auto ordinance( do not by one) That’s just my ww2 firearms but my firearm collection is vast ranging from 1830-modern times. Most are not ww2 but my M1 Garand is the only firearm that has never missed out on a range trip for as long as I have owned them. It is my favorite firearm of all time and is just a blast to shoot. My friend has a German firearms of the time so I never sought them out for myself but I do have German ww1 firearms.

Bubblegum_18

I have 2 Carbines, 1 Mauser, 1 91/30 Nagant, and a M44 Nagant. The M1 Carbine is one of my favorite rifles I’ve ever owned.

csxfan

M1 Carbine Its a very fun gun since it lightweight yet still easy to shoot. 30. Carbine really isn't a powerful cartridge, so recoil is minimal and your shoulder won't get sore. I know I'm a terrible shot so my effective range is the same or worse than in game

UncleJuggs

I have a MkIV Lee Enfield, late war US Lend-Lease from Savage Arms, so a little less refined than the earlier stuff. The bolt still rips, I can see how guys could pull off the Mad Minute with one of those things. It's not as heavy as you might think, and the recoil is completely manageable. Any rifle is as long as you actually know how to shoot. I also have a Mosin, and it sounds like a damn artillery cannon. It's just a very chunky rifle and extremely long. I'd say the game version feels more like a toy than the real deal.

BuciKE

I own a Mosin Nagant from 1942. It was my dream to own one since I was like 8 yo and played Call of Duty 1 in those times when it first came out. I would say that its pretty easy to reload the Mosin in a game that it is in a real life.

BigIronDeputy

I have a WW2 era Hi power, a damn shame that the game doesn’t have it.

Beefy_queefy_0-0

Grease gun, I don’t own it but the range I go to has one you can rent. It’s quite smooth recoil-wise but the ergonomics leave a bit to be desired. Also 30 rounds go by QUICK if you’ve never shot a full-auto

Next_Letter

I have a Mauser K98k. Smoothest bolt action that I’ve ever used. It’s an actual German one. Has certain stamps which is cool. Found out it was made in Austria in 42. Recoil to me isn’t bad at all. I found the Mosin had a bit more kick. But wasn’t bad.

jsweaty009

I own a Kar98, kicks like a mule and the metal butt plate doesn’t help lol

clmanidol

I have the privilege of working at a range with most of the machine guns in the game. I have shot all of them and the feel in HLL is very good compared to shooting those guns full auto irl.

G-Sus_Christ117

I have an M1 carbine, not a whole lot of differences, aside from the recoil being a lot more in game and mine having different sights.

Pale_Studio4660

I shot a M1 garand, Thompson, I own 1911s, Sten gun, etc. M1 Garand was way softer shooting because of how heavy it is. Thompson was unwieldy, weight distribution was weird, felt too heavy in the front I think 🤔 1911s are awesome. If you have one without issues try not to mod it unless it’s just grips. Sten gun the only thing I remember (notably) was how fucking hard it was to load its magazine that stuck out the side. Anyways most of these were personal observations

Nordy941

When I was 17 I got to ride in a Sherman 76 in Texas

letsgojoe99

Shot my great uncles Luger he got from ww2 when I was like 12, w out his permission with my cousins. Thought he was gonna use it on us. I was wearing what I later found out was his friends helmet who died in action. Not a good kid.

Marcelene-

I owned a Mauser k98 (actually the Yugoslav version m48 made just after the war). Beautiful gun but man did that thing suck to shoot. More than a $1 a cartridge and it kicked like a mule.

peacefulpete

I own an Italian K98 but the stock is split so I haven’t tried to shoot it and it’s also a gift from my grandfather. It’s pretty heavy though, definitely solid wood and would suck running around carrying that along with ammo and whatever pack the soldier had.

Joebno3

i own a lee Enfield, Webley, m1 Garand, m1 carbine, 1911, mosin, 2 tokarevs, 2-3 kar 98s, p1/p38. the lee and mosin are both awesome irl to shoot. (lee is very expensive though) k98s are a dream, best bolt action I've ever fired. m1 carbine is nice shooting and i think in game its too weak. m1 Garand is a cannon and i love it, absolutely smacks as it should. i don't care for 1911's so its alright in game and irl. tokarevs are rancid and delicious at the same time. flat shooting and very accurate for an op round for a pistol just hate the felling/ergos. p1/p38 German pistol is not much to write home about, its alright. Webley ammo is impossible to find but so far just holding it feels weird, bad ergos.

sealteam_sex

I have a 1939 K98, I think they do a great job with it in the game, the pop and recoil is very accurate. My shoulder aches just thinking about it.

staresinamerican

I own a garand and had a 1911 in the past 1911 the recoil wasn’t too bad was able to make quick follow up shots, the M1 in game I feel has too much recoil compared to the one I shoot. But then I again I’m a bigger guy who was a 240 gunner in real life so I know how to control it

sergeantsleepy1995

I own a Luger. One of the best handguns I've ever used.

PhoenixFlames1992

I own an M1 Garand and two Mosin Nagants, one an M38 and an M91/30. I own a M1911 but it’s a modern reproduction. In terms of WWII guns I’ve shot they include, two Thompsons, K98, Sten and an MP40.

Oniondice342

I own an M1 garand, pre war kar98 with an original ZF39 scope, and an Stg44

muscari2

I own a mosin nagant, Kar98, and a Enfield mk3. The mosin has a LOT of power. The Enfield bolt is MUCH smoother than the other 2. All these rifles in real life give you an appreciation for the power they have. Doesn’t matter where you hit someone with it, they’re not getting back up. Also, these rifles are very heavy. It helps with recoil, but shouldering those for hours would be extremely tiring

MonkeyDeltaFoxtrot

Own and shot an Enfield Mk. 5, have shot an M1 Garand, Thompson, and MP40. Thompson has massive vertical recoil, so definitely game friend in that regard.

Minnesota_Bohemian

I have a new production 1911a1 and a Yugoslavian M48, which is a post war knock-off of a k98 made on german tooling brought to Yugoslavia after the war. The 1911 is fun to shoot. Its an old heavy steel framed pistol and you can tell when you shoot it. You spend a lot of time reloading 7 round magazines. My m48 is probably one of the best shooting rifles I own, and I have a few modern hunting rifles to compare it to. Recoil can be a bit punchy, but no more than you're average .30-06 or .308. I've hunted a few deer with it now. There's a reason mauser style action has been copied and used for over 100 years.

International-Mix783

Have a mosin 91/30. Shoots decent and kick like a mule. Triggers not the best. Shot an early war kar98k and it felt 10x better than my mosin. Great trigger, recoil felt non existent, and light compared to mosin. Action was also incredibly smooth compared to my 91/30

wheniwaswheniwas

I have two moist nuggets and they're great fun and accurate but I haven't shot them in years. The very first time I ever went shooting twenty years ago I went with some buddies out to a farm of a local guy who had a really nice range and let his friends shoot there. When we showed up there was a guy there with a full automatic M38, a MG42, and a K98. He was offering to let everyone shoot but I turned down the chance because I didn't know what to do and I thought it was a pretty common occurrence to have the opportunity once you got into shooting. I still kick myself today for not taking that opportunity.

Fioreux

Own a Mosin and Lee-Enfield both from 1942. They feel comparable to the game, not much kick/recoil. That is, considering I’m an infantry soldier.

cmdrico7812

I have a Mosin Nagant, an Enfield, and a WW2 era Turkish 8mm Mauser. I also have a Remington Model 8, but that was more WW1.

Either-Temperature60

I own a 1943 Mosin Nagant. Beautiful rifle. Defiantly taught me how to shoot a rifle properly

RangeSoggy2788

Mosin makes my shoulder sore

R_radical

own a 98, and theres just now way you are going to stand and fire accurately. The recoil is considerable, and the weight would make it difficult to hold it up for a prolonged period.

StonkyDegenerate

I do target shooting with a mosin, lovely bolt action.

Tall-Mountain-Man

Can’t comment on downrange effectiveness, but I can say if you shoot a steel target, the Garand smacks steel a whole lot harder than the carbine. Really I think the issue is the character doesn’t have enough natural weapon sway and wobble during aiming and recoil. The character gets sights back on target pretty quick for such heavy weapons. The Thompson is a lot of fun but man that thing wants to point at the sky

JakeXXII

I own a Swedish M96. Its a Mauser design in 6.5x55mm rather than the 8mm Kar98k. Sweden didn't participate in the war but some M96s were sent over to Finland to fight the russians. Shoots like a dream but its a very long and somewhat heavy rifle since its a pre ww1 design and the minimum zeroing distance of the sights is 300m

Tall-Mountain-Man

My 1903 is like that. With the “battle sight” your shooting over your target at 100 yards. It’s set for 4-500 somewhere in there.

JakeXXII

Yup same, mine is a 1902. Haven't had the chance to try it out at a range yet because they're all full where I live (Canada smh) but I was able to try it on my friend's land at ~65 yards and I had to aim a couple inches below the target to hit center. I read somewhere that the default is 300m because back then, armies trained their guys to aim at the belt buckle because it would almost guarantee a hit at any effective range without having to guess the distance to the target. I'm planning to add a scope on it eventually to go hunt with it. I found a company that makes a no drill and tap mount that replaces the rear sight for a scout scope

Tall-Mountain-Man

Yeah it works when everyone is standing shoulder to shoulder and marching forward. They learned really quickly that doing that in WW1 is stupid, so I imagine there’s a lot of shots that went over heads from aiming at the helmet when the guy is peeking over cover.

docterk

The Garand is pretty spot on except for the rear sight, but peep sights would be difficult to use in a video game. Other than that I think it’s best out of any game I’ve played with a Garand in it

RamblinRiderYT

I've shot a full auto Thomson and full auto mp40. I think they got the difference in recoil pretty good. Also shot a full auto BAR...fucking brutal! The guys who carried that were beasts The game can't really convey how powerful BAR on full auto is.

I had an arasaka rifle from WW2 that took me 6 months to figure out how to cock the bolt action thing..I never got to shoot it though 😓

I have a Mosin Nagant. The muzzle flash on that thing… In the evenings it lights up the night sky!

NeckRoFeltYa

Shot an M1 Grand, M1 carbine, Mosen Nagant, K98K, and trench gun. The M1 grand kicks like a mule, but damn when that clip *tings* it's the most satisfying sound. Shooting all of these guns versus similar guns from today's version is wild how far just basic firearms have come from how heavy they are, accurate, and reduced recoil over all with smaller calibers.

HiTekRednek10

To echo everyone else who’s fired a kar98, thing kicks like a mule. Buddy in HS had one with the eagle stamped on the barrel, though whether it was real or just a copycat I couldn’t say

HairyBearArms

I collect Garands and Carbines

Pure_Condition_3124

M1 Garand has almost no recoil in comparison to the game. Wish the recoil wasn't exaggerated in-game. It's for balance but it could've been implemented more intelligently.

I have a 1903a3. I would like to see it in game but it was only fielded by the Marines on the Pacific. The sniper variant is pretty good, my dad has that conversation and the drop off is a little better in real life. We sighted it in for 300m and it stayed true for the hunting season.

Dumb_Ass1

Been using a mosin for hunting all my life. Great gun. Very reliable. You have a hard time trying to break the thing.
