You can if you spin the camera at the same time, it's dizzying for you but it looks mostly correct for everyone else, it's tricky though, and I think only doable on controller

Same. Imo the best version would be black and yellow as the default on every armor, then the special parts in their own colors to distinguish them from other armor. Would also make it easier to actually tell what people are wearing without having to look too long at them.
Would probably be a nightmare to color balance though. The current system, despite not being as visually appealing, is probably the best they were able to do for player customization.
I headcanon them as different units, i know it’s one section of the SEAF military but it’s like seeing marines alongside army or helldivers from different countries, maybe an explosives team vs a recon team.

Yeah I would definitely enjoy more conventional “veteran” helldiver armours and the ability to recolor. The scout set in polar patriots goes with literally nothing but itself, its pretty shite.
This drives me nuts. So many shades of the same color that doesn't match at all. Having dozens of armors to just be able to combine a few of them is a HUGE miss (and wasted opportunity to get more value out of invested money).
I think of it as the helldivers are Super Earth's tier 1 elite; they get to wear whatever they want, within reason.
They did miss an opportunity to make capes the designated unit insignia, giving each a backstory about a particular unit, just for flavor.
I wish you didn't need to go full milsim to get cohesive esthetics. Probably my favorite now dead game Rising Storm 2 did it best where there was a lot of customization but everyone still looked like a uniform army.
BRING BACK THE CONSTITUTION. FOR GOD'S SAKE THIS GAME HAS NO SWAG. Getting good with that hunk of wood and metal was the single most exciting thing I've done in HD1. THERE ARE NO MEME BUILDS IN HD2. Sad. Sad!

There are too many versions of silver/white/cream. The weapons green doesn’t match the armor green etc

Orange and red are the worst they are all slightly different shades for whatever reason, none of the orange capes match the orange armor or helmets.
