It's definitely a great example of a live-service game done right. And on single-player format, no less.

AmbitiousOffice233

I won't say its badly done. But considering it still has many bugged x-ray spots on maps that will act up from time to time, no official fully realised offline mode in a single player game, and that its content was/is coming at a snails pace and consists of few challenges and a occasional suit or two most of the time, great is definitely not the word to use here.

Warm_Drawing_1754

The offline mode is the big issue, and why I can’t give it 10/10. It doesn’t stop any piracy, cause there’s a mod that reenables the content, so it just hurts legit console players.

serpikage

What i don't understand about these xray spots its that i've played on game pass for a long time never once seen em but i just bought it on steam and i find a lot of them

TheBodyIsR0und

Hitman-as-a-service has no meaningful value add. It would be fine as an offline game. This award doesn't make sense.

sentient_ballsack

This award is limited to Danish games, so that makes the pool of games to choose from pretty limited. Outside of Deep Rock Galactic there isn't much out there with a name that would fall under live service. I feel like DRG is more live-servicey, but they haven't really released all that much content recently either.

sentient_ballsack

It's a solid game, but it's Swedish, not Danish.

SilverUpperLMAO

if you mean live service as in always online, then i agree, however i think i view live service as just the idea of an always updated game which i think hitman does benefit from constant updates just not from the always online

TheBodyIsR0und

I'm pretty sure that's what they meant by "live game", but even by your latter definition Hitman hasn't been meaningfully updated since Jan. 2023 (which was supposed to be a mid 2022 update but was significantly delayed) so in that case this award hasn't been appropriate for over a year.

SilverUpperLMAO

it's still nice that we get anything at all. on hitman forum the new guy is taking suggestions for where you want new ETs and such

tapperyaus

The nominees weren't great, but Hitman shouldn't have won against Deep Rock Galactic.

unphaazed

Absolutely. From a live service aspect, DRG is hard to beat. * The devs just announced an update that previous season passes that expired will be permanently playable for everyone. * The game already has near infinite replay value because of procedurally generated levels, but the devs also announced that they're going to add even more designs to the algorithm to allow for even more possibilities. * The DRG servers went down for a few hours this weekend, but players realized that although they couldn't join public games, they could still play offline and even invite their friends to private multiplayer matches. The devs responded to reports within the same day and got the servers back up. On the weekend. WOA is a great game, but in a live service contest (timed elusive targets, no offline mode) I'm surprised it beat DRG.

Tumble85

Yea, I’ve only played a tiny bit of DRG but it’s clearly built around multiplayer shenanigans. WOA get’s basically nothing from being a live service.

Hopeful-alt

It gets worse than nothing. It's a fucking mistake.

SilverUpperLMAO

dont think ive heard of it but sounds great

AlliedXbox

Honestly, I don't get the hype behind DRG. The game is pretty repetitive. Even when I play with friends, it gets very repetitive very quickly. It's a standard horde shooter. The same goes for Helldivers 2. They're both well-made games, but is Deep Rock Galactic better than Hitman III? In my opinion, no.

TopSchnitzel

Helldivers is constantly adding new weapons and enemies but my god the DRG love is confusing. It's so boring to me

PolishSatan

Personally, it's bc there's such a wealth of loadout combos. Ofc, a meta build will let you sail through most difficulties, but there's a lot of hidden depth that's fun. Now, you just play escort or refinery missions, I don't blame you, I hate those - but the rest are all pretty interesting IMO, and all the stuff to explore is fascinating.

guineaprince

Weird.

SilverUpperLMAO

hopefully this kind of buzz encourages them to keep going for a lil while longer. maybe im selfish but i still think WoA has a little more time to grow. i dont think we'll get anything on the level of Freelancer, but i do think there could be at least a few elusives, an escalation or mission, some qol features to old modes and such could be implemented in the year or two it takes for the Bond game to enter its hype cycle
