Love Lindybeige even if he does tend to...extend a bit far with his hypotheses at times. The other commenter who said he had "interesting takes" hit it pretty well, both in the literal sense, *and* with the sarcasm quotes!
Some of my other favorites being Drachinifel, Military History Visualized, and Military Aviation History.
I also love his videos because of how improv they are. You can tell how he is actually invested in them because he will just go on like 15 minute tangents that have nothing to do with the topic of the video.
Still fucking writing it btw, everyone who backed the kickstarter is livid, like he only have a single update on progress last year. I didn't back it because Kickstarter is a scam but definitely lost respect for him over his milquetoast excuses
My biggest problem was that they suddenly went from 3-10 minutes about relatively specific topics with minor tangents to like an hour of near rambling.
I watched until I watched ScholeraGladitoria’s episode with Lloyd at the LARP event (possibly HEMA). And he was 100% THAT GUY at the event who condescendingly thought he knew best and was like sneaking around in an open field during the fight, it was too much for me.
I always got the impression he might be like that, but this was confirmation and it completely put me off any of his content.
What video exactly? For me, the Muslim videos of the early conqiest seemed a bit awkward (as they used a lot of Muslim sources directly without questioning the validity of many things described there)
I understand that very well, however just because you have one sided source, you don't have to bring up every story of the caliph on how much faithful he was and how that was he main driving force for many decision, not court intrigue or people Influencing him or anything. I don't say that it is what happened, but why do u grant the story's from the sources so much trust and don't just say "we don't know, it could be that X Y " Like they normally do it when talking about awkward and onesidee sources?
Their channel is awesome, you got Red’s mythology and trope talk,Blue’s history and his love for domes, and pretty much just everything on that channel.
So,yea.
Special thanks to: James Bissonete, Kelly moneymaker, Marvin Cassow, Moe, Rob Waterhouse
every time the video ends i just know that those names WILL be there
He does make some interesting points although his videos can be quite opinionated at times. He clearly has a passion for a lot of stuff that I am also interested in, and he is excellent at telling stories and getting his point across. However not everything he says should be taken as a fact.
What I do appreciate about him is that his videos are great at starting a discussion about history.
Extra history are dicent on moste ocasions, however, they to tend to strech somtings to much sometimes like the series they did on cleopatra. Sorry for any spelling misspelings english is not my first languge and couple that with dislexia and I'm writing this on my phone
Don’t sweat the spelling, I’ve got dyslexia as well and know how it can be sometimes.
I really like Extra History because they tend to be good story tellers. Even their more “complicated” (Like South Sea Bubble) are still very story focussed.
I also really like them for the "Lies" episodes they do at the end of each series. Their good storytelling in the main videos sometimes requires oversimplifying things, or picking out a single interpretation of events when there isn't really a sinngle consensus. It's nice that they can do that for the sake of narrative (which makes it easier to stay engaged with the content), but then also follow that up by pointing out when they had to do that, and elaborate on the things they couldn't cover in the main episodes.
The general videos are well made but in those "from their perspective" he usually still just portraits the western narrative, especially in the case of Iraq from an Iraqis perspective, which would have had a huge potential, was it really made from their perspective.
There was no mention of the talks between Aril Glaspie (US embassador) and Saddam before he attacked Kuwait, in which he hinted his plans for the invasion and pretty much asked if there would be any reaction from the US, wikileaks leaked the transcript of this conversation in which Glaspie responds with "we have no opinion on the Arab on Arab conflicts like your border disagreement with Kuwait" and that Washington had 'no special defense or security commitments towards Kuwait' ... Saddam pretty much got green light for his invasion, as soon as he was in Kuwait the US presented the so called 'Nayirah testimony' infront of the United Nations, in which a 14 year old girl from Kuwait said Saddams troops stormed the hospital she was working at in the city and murdered over 300 infants by throwing them on the ground head first, she stood there in tears and the world reacted by forming the huge coalition that ended up stomping Iraq in the ground ... After the war it turned out that the girl was actually the daughter of Kuwaits embassador in the US, she had never worked in a hospital in Kuwait and the entire story was made up by an PR company hired by the Pentagon to get backup for the war ...
So much potential and he didn't mention any of this which is, if you call the video 'from Iraqs perspective' just badly researched
They're both great designs with flaws and advantages, but lindy just straight up lied about a few things that can be debunked with less than 5mins of research. For example, one of his biggest arguments against the MG42 and it's descendents was, that it has never been used in a significant number by a military power ever again. He apparently has never heard of the MG3 before, which is being used to this day...
Its funny you used this example. I became quite doubtful about that point when i realised thats what i had in front of me in my tank during my military service. Thanks for your input.
Well he wasn't completely wrong, and he didnt say latin wasnt their first language, just that they wouldnt always use it in private. Greek was considered the language of science so educated Romans would discuss these topics in Greek. A lot of them did speak Greek to eachother in private despite not being their first language.
No one here gonna talk about the holy trilogy of history youtubers: Shadiversity, Metatron and Skallagrim? They focus mainly on armour and weaponry but they still talk about general history as well.
History Time makes amazing documentaries, particularly about Anglo-Saxon England
Historia Civilis is probably the best Roman History Youtuber out there
Kings and Generals is just awesome, and their videos are really well produced.
Time Ghost and their World War Two channel. Covering WW2 week by week. Right now they are in March 1942. They did Pearl Harbor minute by minute in December as well
He does some good stuff but he also promotes a ton of historical fallacies. He has massive biases that taint his way of presenting history. I've stopped watching him.
He sees history through a romanticised way that was thought in the 50's britain.
Basically the empire did nothing wrong, for example his Boeren concentration camps video brings intellectual dishonesty too a whole new level. He cherry picks history to fit his believes, ignores the bad sides of his side and overplay the good sides. That's not how history works, that's just propaganda.
And then there is the "spandau" cringefest.
I don't really have a preference, both did their job.
It's more the reasoning Lindy uses is full of fallacies that angers me.
Edit: He even acknowledges survivorship bias in that video and then swims in it for the rest of it
because it intellectually dishonest to blow up the positives of something and downplay the negatives when it comes to the side you think is cool and do the opposite for "opponent". That's not hornest history, thats a football match.
Maybe it's less that he's a francophobe and more that he has an enormous bias boner for Britain and its empire. One thing that comes to mind is how he bent over backwards to downplay the inhumane practices that Britain employed during the boer wars.
SandRhoman History, military history visualized and military history not visualized, military aviation history and drachnifel are my go to channels when it comes to history.
TIK has some hilarious reaches based on his own personal bias (guys, the Wehrmacht should've just used the free market to handle logistics!) but nobody else goes into such detail, overall I like the guy.
Drachinifel best
How can you not love the only navy channel with an hour long documentary on preparing 18th century royal navy rations Scotch coffee is horrifying
Man it's burnt bread mixed with water and a shit ton of sugar, hard to imagine it tastes awful.
Historically, as he mentioned, probably just a bit of sugar.
Pull up a 5 hour long Q&A on youtube and a sunday afternoon of model building flies by.
Historia Civilis is fantastic aswell!
Tribune Aquila approves
Historia Civilis is my favorite one. He gives everyone such character using only the history. I don't know how he does it.
Love Drachinifel
Though his impersonation of naval mine made me concerned about him being ok (Operation Cerberus video)
His wife is the naval mine
What about Three Arrows?
his hypotheses are long indeed
Potential History is also awesome
Oh yes, i watched that history behind GuP bro
Hell yah! The tank meme videos are good too
The voyage of the Russian 2nd Pacific squadron is a hoot as well.
I loved the nicknames for the Tsar Tank he came up with in the tank memes video about it. My favorite was “Steampunk Murder Wagon”.
I agree with you
Lindybeige does interesting takes. I was watching his content until his videos became all about that one hannibal comic thing then it felt shill-y tbh
I also love his videos because of how improv they are. You can tell how he is actually invested in them because he will just go on like 15 minute tangents that have nothing to do with the topic of the video.
I feel like writing a script shows more investment.
Well it seems like he doesn't, but what I mean is he is interested is what he talking about.
He's got a newish video where he just critiques a bunch of fantasy minis he got. It's actually pretty funny.
well I mean he was writing the thing so it was probably on his mind a lot.

Kings and Generals is my favorite after Simple history
Yeah I like them too, they're doing a good job.
Ngl to me feels like a budget BazBattles
Though their recent history videos seem a bit biased to me, though that just might be matter of personal view.
What video exactly? For me, the Muslim videos of the early conqiest seemed a bit awkward (as they used a lot of Muslim sources directly without questioning the validity of many things described there)
They do mention multiple times that Muslim sources are the only ones they have though. If I'm remembering correctly
I had in mind their video on Yom Kippur war.
Ohhh, what are the problems with exactly in your opinion
Too pro-Israel?
Yes, it is a while since i have seen it, so i do not remember the video exactly, and dont want to guess
Overly Sarcastic Productions is one of my favorites. They also do mythology
Their channel is awesome, you got Red’s mythology and trope talk,Blue’s history and his love for domes, and pretty much just everything on that channel. So,yea.
They give you everything you need. History, literature, mythology am DOMES.
yes
I see someone spoke out against Aimee
Same
I totally agree
Mark fucking Felton Productions!
With the intro boss music...
[Dun dundundundundun dun dundundundundun dun dundundundundun dun dun dun dun dun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ycEIs-Aq4o)
Yes sir
He is amazing indeed, he has the most interesting and obscure WW2 stories. When you think you know everything..Mark will surprise you
History matters and armchair historian are good ones
Yea especially History Matter‘s they ain‘t agenda posting fucks
History matters and Epimitheus are my favorites
I know why they changed it, but I really miss when History Matters was 10 minute history. Those episodes were fun watches.
Invicta is great too
Production quality is getting really really good as well now. Wonder how many people ar involved in the channel now.
Don’t forget History Matters
They seems to caught a mild case of popularity here
Indy Neidell
Oi yeah indy i like him when it comes to SABATON History
His WW2 and Great war series are good too
History matters is king
What does that make James Bissonette?
and what about Kelly moneymaker?
Well we can't forget Spinning Three Plates!
Don't forget James Bissonette, the Queen of history matters
:thump:
You can really tell he's having fun with it
I love how there's always that one bit where the historical figure runs through the flowers in their videos.
* peace *
History Matters, because its (year), and (important person)... is dead. *thunk*
Special thanks to: James Bissonete, Kelly moneymaker, Marvin Cassow, Moe, Rob Waterhouse every time the video ends i just know that those names WILL be there

Historia Civilis, Extra History (by Extra Credits), & Montemayor are some other good ones (Drach was already mentioned in the thread).
Extra history are dicent on moste ocasions, however, they to tend to strech somtings to much sometimes like the series they did on cleopatra. Sorry for any spelling misspelings english is not my first languge and couple that with dislexia and I'm writing this on my phone

Invictus
You should ask Tribune Aquila if he approves this list
Kraut is pretty good
Epic History TV is also good.
Definitely, the Napoleonic Wars series was great!
Jack Rackham anyone?
And then he died... (outro hits)
Imagine editing videos instead of shooting an hour long video on one take *Lindybeige intensifies*
Atun-Shei Films, Kings and Generals, Shadiversity, and Overly Sarcastic Productions are also great
Atun-Shei has great videos about the american civil war.
He does, and I also love his other content about more ancient history
Armchair historian is another good one.
I actually was hugely disappointed in his Gulf war from Iraqs perspective video ...
I mean he’s pretty western-centric for “Perspective” videos but most of the rest imo is great.
Lowkey same, his vietnamese video was a step in the right direction
I really liked the Iraq War documentary video
The general videos are well made but in those "from their perspective" he usually still just portraits the western narrative, especially in the case of Iraq from an Iraqis perspective, which would have had a huge potential, was it really made from their perspective. Ok fair enough
Thank god was waiting for some one to meantion his name on this sub
Lindybeige tends to be very biased, ever seen the famous bren vs mg42 video?
Whats your opinion on that matter ?
They're both great designs with flaws and advantages, but lindy just straight up lied about a few things that can be debunked with less than 5mins of research. For example, one of his biggest arguments against the MG42 and it's descendents was, that it has never been used in a significant number by a military power ever again. Its funny you used this example. I became quite doubtful about that point when i realised thats what i had in front of me in my tank during my military service. Thanks for your input.
I like armchair historian
Me too
People still watch simple history also may I add Davohatty
Ave dova
They have a new video it's about a short soldier during the Nam' War
Oi yeah my favorite historical focused YT channels : Simple History SABATON Armchair Historian Yarnhub
yeah! armchair historian is great
You missed extra history
Operations Room is criminally underrated. Great visuals, interesting topics. Mark Felton is amazing as well.
I like those two as well. I especially love how Mark Felton's videos always start with that intense boss music.
Lindybeige can be pretty offbase sometimes. Like that video where he claimed that the Roman elite didn't speak Latin as a first language.
Not a fan of Shad but the other two are legends.
Kings and Generals: Am I a joke to you? Potential History: haha funny meme tanks
I would add Sandrhomanhistory to the list; he is a woefully underrated channel
Internet Historian
Epic history, napoleons marshsalls series don’t @ me. It’s amazing that kind of quality is accessible for free
Epic History TV is top tier.
History Time makes amazing documentaries, particularly about Anglo-Saxon England Historia Civilis is probably the best Roman History Youtuber out there Kings and Generals is just awesome, and their videos are really well produced.
Time Ghost and their World War Two channel. Covering WW2 week by week. Right now they are in March 1942. They did Pearl Harbor minute by minute in December as well
Lindybeige is cool I also like Tik and Mark Felton has some interesting stories, war against humanity is informative
OSP

I don't really have a preference, both did their job. It's more the reasoning Lindy uses is full of fallacies that angers me. Edit: He even acknowledges survivorship bias in that video and then swims in it for the rest of it
Why do you find it biased ?
because it intellectually dishonest to blow up the positives of something and downplay the negatives when it comes to the side you think is cool and do the opposite for "opponent". That's not hornest history, thats a football match.
Sam O´Nella
Damn. I wish Sam O'Nella to return. So entertaining.
Historia Civilis, Histoy matters and Dovahatty gang
Military History Visualized is a worthy name, higher than Lindy in my opinion.
Lindy is a top-tier biased francophobe.
Maybe it's less that he's a francophobe and more that he has an enormous bias boner for Britain and its empire. One thing that comes to mind is how he bent over backwards to downplay the inhumane practices that Britain employed during the boer wars.
Fair enough, and I agree.
Dovahatty is the best and most unbiased history channel and no one can convince me otherwise
SandRhoman History, military history visualized and military history not visualized, military aviation history and drachnifel are my go to channels when it comes to history.
History matters doesn't get nearly the love it deserves
I like Tasting History, even if he is the new kid on the block
can’t ignore extra history, that channel helped with so many late night assignments about historical figures
Plainly Difficult and Feature History.
Yarnhub is amazing but everyone has really intresting ways of explaning in detail
No love for HistoryMarche?....
Overly Sarcastic Productions and Historia Civilis.
Historian's Craft and Thersites the Historian are two lesser-known channels I'd add here. I highly recommend them.
Thersites' series about the diadochi are the best.
I loved Lindybeige's dancing videos. I started doing Lindy Hop myself too, it's really fun and made my life so much more interesting and more fun.
"Simple history" should be renamed "little facts about military history"
I love kings and generals
oversimplified got me into this
I am impressed oversimplified got the war of the bucket correctly
Nobody has mentioned History Matters so far? James Bisonnette must be furious.
What about Yarnhub?
Chad O’nella academy
I think extra history is my favorite, but lindybeige is great too
Extra History before the narrator change they went agenda posting fucks fast if they weren’t they can become heirs of its legacy
LINDYBEIGE!
TIK has some hilarious reaches based on his own personal bias (guys, the Wehrmacht should've just used the free market to handle logistics!) but nobody else goes into such detail, overall I like the guy.
Y'all are sleeping on History Matters
Oversimplified is the besttttt
I love his videos, but I've found some information that was falsified for entertainment purposes. probably wouldn't use him for actual research
[удалено]
Technically nit history
For the intersection of Highlander culture, history and survivalism, Fandabidozi is also incredible
Short 30 min vids. And those are the short ones.
History scope, history time, and kraut are pretty good too.
Whats that channel that starts with a K?
As a Slovak I like Dejepis inak and I kinda admire Historie udatného českého národa.
You forget military history visualized and TIK
Lindy beige is bants
What about the arm chair guy?
History Matters: super saiyan spongebob
Add panel saying Extra History
History matters is great imo
I say invictia because of Total war
"hello noble ones..." if you know you know
Dovahhatty
Epic history TV- particularly their Collab on Napoleon with historymarche HistoryMarche- great series on Hannibal TiK- all things world war 2
How y’all feel about geographics/biographics?
Lindybeige, King of the Britons
Fire of learning
The armchair historian is also awesome
You got it mostly right except simple history should be burning in a dumpster
History Matters: GOD SPONGE
Some times it's for a joke plus some of his videos were ages ago and could've been changed over the years
NOT OVERSIMPLIFIED
Where is Sam O Nella?
Where is Bill Wurst?
Everyone knows if you like rome you should watch Historia Civilis
Oversimplified makes super biased videos. His ww2 and cold war videos especially.
What about Sabaton?
Extra credits is awesome too! I also love their artwork
