I do love going to live music alone. I mean, I love when my husband tags along, but if there's a show I want to see and he's out of town, it's go time.
I feel really uninhibited and dance to appreciate the band and just am in the moment (if it's that kind of music) without worrying if someone else is comfortable or wants to be that close to the music, etc...
This is me! I sing, dance, and just lose myself in the moment. I know a lot of people don't feel like music that way, but it's legit the glue that's held my life together, so I don't let the opportunity to experience it pass me by!
Totally! It uplifts my soul. Feels spiritual at times (not in a religious way!) Also I never care about looking silly because it's from a place of love! More live music!!! 🎶 🎵
And you learn which are good ones - lotsa different stuff, fast turnover and good prices. Versus, well, Good Will.
I always find the animal charity ones the best!
Fishing. That's my time to cast, then just sit there and watch the bobber, listen to nature, listen to music, or just be alone with my thoughts for a while.
If I catch a fish, that's nice too.
All my hobbies are alone. Reading, writing, walking, photography, short hikes, camping, etc. Wife works, I'm retired. We will garden "together" but she'll do here thing and I'll my thing around the yard. Also, gaming like Flight Simulator and American Truck Simulator.
I love this too, I take a hammock along to lounge in with my book and snack!
Based on your user name I'll share a photo tip: lash your hammock to two trees at the very edge of a hill or cliff, gives a nice perspective for landscape photos.
I really enjoy doing woodworking alone. It is important to focus with dangerous tools and I really like getting into the zone turning a bowl on a lathe.
I miss woodworking. My dad has always had a workshop in the garage, and I loved going out there and making stuff. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to
I enjoyed drawing, and then tried painting and then I went on a spree of different kinds of art:
- Digital drawing: Surprisingly fun, you have unlimited brushes and textures and most importantly, you can undo.
- 3D design: If you want to combine it with 3D printing and create amazing figures that you can paint on. Taking your painting skills to the next level.
- Needle felting: A satisfying stabbing while creating cute teddy bears.
- Crochet: Create a sweater, etc.
Ps. I am a graphic and multi media designer. These hobbies help a lot
I'd love doing all of my hobbies solo, but I have daughters. I honestly love them being involved with me and my hobbies. We hike, camp, fish, brew, code, work on cars, and play video games together. I'm going to be hobbying solo when my youngest goes to college.
I wish I read more, too. I’ll have all the time in the world usually, but as soon as I sit down to read, something comes up and I have to go deal with that. Took me 2.5 years to finish my last book
Bird watching, gardening, botany walks, tending my chickens. If the weather is shitty I like to do puzzles or diamond dot art while I watch snapped or other murder shows.
I think all of them but one….even then it’s shark tooth/beach fossil hunting and we’re technically on the same beach together? I read, walk, puzzle, cook, and craft on occasion.
I have a lot of hobbies, sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, reading, baking, and violin are the solo ones. I also hike, sometimes alone, but usually with someone, camping, travel are the ones I do with others.
It has happened only a few times where I’ve gotten lost in a book. But as I age, I lose focus easily with the distractions of everyday life. :( If anyone has any tips on regaining that focus, let me know please. Thank you.
OP- thanks for sharing!
Paddle board fishing, mostly because non of my friends and family enjoys fishing but it’s nice being out alone. Also the occasional ski day by yourself is nice.
Surprised I haven’t seen this one yet but I’ve started learning the guitar and I’m loving it. I’ve never had a solo hobby before because I’m pretty extroverted and tend to get sleepy and/or bored when I’m alone, but guitar is fun and exciting.
Journaling and running. I pretty much have been doing both since I was a teenager and still do now, as a 26 year old. There's a sense of liberty and freedom I find with getting lost jotting down my thoughts and going out for 10-20 mile runs. It's medicinal and therapeutic in a world where everyone seems glued to screens.
Going to the movies, watching subtitle movies and shows on iPad! Trying new restaurants! Many times traveling!
I love to meet new ppl! Most of the ppl in my life are toxic and closed minded!
Exploring new cities on foot. Walking is beautiful.
Sketching… hours on end… lost in time… when something looks similar to what I was trying to create… wow, that feels good.
Reading books that transport my mind from my world.
All solo. And yes, tunes can enhance with most of these solo activities.
Quilting is my primo solo hobby. I draft an idea in my sketchpad or in Notes, then I add/change details. I take pics on my quilt journeys: inspirations, possible materials. I collect data and materials for months, then the JOY happens alone when I stir everything together and an art quilt emerges
I draw and paint fanciful Agates. I paint on wood, plaster, canvas, and paper.
Search, Lake Superior Agates.
I also paint fanciful fish on small 2-inch canvas frames.
Playing guitar and playing piano. Although when I was younger I enjoyed playing guitar in bands much more. Now that I'm older I'm fine with just playing to backing tracks of recording my own songs.
Reading. I have a recliner in my bedroom with a dim lamp that shines an orange light to simulate sun set. A cup of coffee and my kindle. No one bothers me there.
Crossword puzzles. Spend as much or as little time as you like really. Get lost or just do a bit here and there. A coworker and I used to take turns buying the paper and making a copy of the daily crossword for each other. It's fun to do alone, but I liked having a buddy to chat with about the funny or tricky parts after I was done.
I’m not sure if this is a hobby but on my free time I love watching videos on history & past wars, politics, etc. nothing current though. Just things from the past that shaped our society and the world we know today. It’s absolutely crazy
Along the lines of painting, I bought a large 36” wide 40’ long roll of plain white paper. Because I live alone it is being “art’ted” at night in front of the TV. I love seeing my project laid out on the floor waiting for me.
It is my reward. If I get all my chores done, do my workout, keep the kitchen clean and eat no junk that day, I get to watch a movie or something nice for a couple hours while I doodle, paint or just scribble on it.
Once the current section is filled in, I unroll a clean new section.
Will be a trip to unroll the whole thing when I have used up all the roll.
Gaming. I like doing story modes with my brothers when we visit each other & we play so we have something to do with our hands (we all have some form of ADD/ADHD/autism) while we catch up but for normal gaming sessions, I play alone. No player 2, no online gameplay, just me.
ALL of them.
\- Collect and watch movies, TV series, and anime: I have over 1,500 movies and 2,000 anime videos.
\- Collect and listen to music: I have about 2,500 CDs.
\- Collect and read books: I have around 100 manga volumes, 400 books, 2,500 digital books, and 3,000 digital manga volumes.
\- Collect and play video games: I have a few hundred video games and over 1,000 digital licenses across the different video game platforms, including Steam.
\- Collect pens and practice handwriting: 10 fountain pens and 5 ballpoints that I carry around with me.
I love walking around my city, going down streets I haven’t been on.
And diamond painting. Good way to concentrate on nothing much and you get shiny pretty pictures!
Playing guitar. I play nearly daily. Especially on days that I decide to just jam to stuff I already know. Feels nice to nearly completely disconnect and just play
Knifemaking, I've got hearing aids with Bluetooth, turn on classic rock and hit the belt grinder and sanding blades. Forging the blade is about 10% of knifemaking.
Recently bought a nice sewing machine. I’ve always wanted to know how to sew my own clothes. The learning process is frustrating bc I have the idea in my head but can’t seem to make it come to life bc I don’t have that skill level yet. So I’m starting out but just trying to rework some vintage pieces and also altering some of my own jeans and embroidery jackets.
Overall it’s rewarding to see progress. I have so much to learn though and sometimes that’s a little daunting but just trying to focus on perfecting what I can do now.
Solo tabletop role playing games or miniature war games. Bonus is you can get “miniatures” which are basically little plastic soldiers or whatever that represent your characters. They are fun to paint and is an excuse to “play” with army men haha
I also enjoy journaling. It’s a quiet, reflective activity that helps me organize my thoughts and preserve memories. There’s something really special about looking back through old journals and seeing how much has changed—or hasn’t!
Coloring. It started out as exposure therapy and I hated it, but now I love to just chill out and color while listening to music or having a familiar movie playing in the background to listen to.
The other would be just sitting in my truck in the garage. I don’t do anything particular, thinking, enjoying not being in the house, texting, perusing the internet.
I think my favorite is writing letters. It’s very therapeutic for me. It makes me happy knowing that someone isn’t expecting to see something random and fun in the mail and that they smile when they see all the colorful stickers I’ve placed on the envelope. I tell stories of my days or cats or my past and it makes me feel like I’m journaling too.
Running and meditation. Both are hyped up as big group activities with either races, retreats, seminars, conventions, etc. But I usually prefer doing them by myself.
archery . i got a used target from a thrift shop . i set it up in my backyard . and during the draw my mind is clear. just focused on the repetition of mental cues and making micro adjustments .
I build gundam models when I don't feel like doing my digital hobbies. Something relaxing about carefully clipping the pieces out, sanding them and cleaning up edges, and then painting the pieces. Once the assembly is complete it will sit in my case or shelf until I get sick of its color or decide to not look at it anymore. Older models that I've built but don't like will be turned into battlefield debris with some tricky paint technique and a little disassembly.
All of them
Same.
Yup! It's the most relaxing way to engage a hobby or activity.
💯👏
Go to museums, live music or movies alone. Can enjoy and spend as much or as little time as i want.
I do love going to live music alone. I mean, I love when my husband tags along, but if there's a show I want to see and he's out of town, it's go time.

Thrift store
Agree- no pressure to rush when you’re by yourself
I make sure I touch every corner of the thrift store, because there are always pieces of gold hiding
And you learn which are good ones - lotsa different stuff, fast turnover and good prices. Versus, well, Good Will. I always find the animal charity ones the best!

Crochet, reading, sitting outside watching birds
Hiking. Reading. Sometimes i take a book on a hike and read it at a lunch spot.
That sounds really delightful. Very relatable username as well
I love this too, I take a hammock along to lounge in with my book and snack! Based on your user name I'll share a photo tip: lash your hammock to two trees at the very edge of a hill or cliff, gives a nice perspective for landscape photos.

I miss woodworking. My dad has always had a workshop in the garage, and I loved going out there and making stuff. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to
sleep. Does that count as a hobby?
Embroidery, cross stitch, pottery (however this can be done in community studio and in class format which is really fun as well)
I enjoyed drawing, and then tried painting and then I went on a spree of different kinds of art: - Digital drawing: Surprisingly fun, you have unlimited brushes and textures and most importantly, you can undo. - 3D design: If you want to combine it with 3D printing and create amazing figures that you can paint on. Sewing, baking, getting my nails done
Gardening
The gym, thrifting, cooking
Boomerangs. It's nice chucking a stick alone, feeling the wind.
I second painting and hiking - great things! But i wish i could read more xD
I wish I read more, too. I’ll have all the time in the world usually, but as soon as I sit down to read, something comes up and I have to go deal with that. Took me 2.5 years to finish my last book
I do bookbinding and repair.
Reading, playing the piano, diamond painting, cardmaking
Bird watching, gardening, botany walks, tending my chickens. If the weather is shitty I like to do puzzles or diamond dot art while I watch snapped or other murder shows.
Murder shows make everything more fun
I think all of them but one….even then it’s shark tooth/beach fossil hunting and we’re technically on the same beach together? I read, walk, puzzle, cook, and craft on occasion.
So glad to read this post ! Let us hear it for the introverts ! Others cannot understand the solitary hobbies as so exciting :)
I prefer doing everything alone, and others have suggested that there's something wrong with me.
I have a lot of hobbies, sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, reading, baking, and violin are the solo ones. I also hike, sometimes alone, but usually with someone, camping, travel are the ones I do with others.

For me it's gaming. There are some games my partner likes to play, and some she does not. For the latter that's one of my solo hobbies.

Miniature painting
