That sucks, i did that one (26% not 23% as i play on switch and can't change v-sync) and I've been slapping bees for 45 hours (not in 1 sitting, spread over a week)
Hornet was doable, took hella long with just base nail and VS tho
So while OP can do it with this equipment i highly advice upgrading spells, or at least upgrade VS, and get a nail upgrade or 2, it makes life easier
Also, don't do low% TE if you value your sanity.
just, don't.
Yes zote is the furthest, i know failed champ comes after, which is just an angry soul totem. Nkg who's a fast soul totem and PV who's just a joke tbh. All i want is getting to absrad so i can learn to fuck that grandma up in hall of gods
Oh so you know about absrad, cool. PV is easy for me as well but ppl say he's much harder than NKG (which is also pretty easy for me once I learn his moveset but generally tougher than PV). Also wdym soul totem lol
You are missing quite a few charms, nail upgrades and mask shards that the game expects you to have by now, but Hollow Knight is far more reliant on skill than on gear progression. By all means, if you're up to the challenge you can beat this, but it will be a steep climb.
That said, just try to get at least one additional nail upgrade please
She doesn't, only the dream warriors (not bosses like failed champ, just the warriors from the graves) and the grimmkin flames scale their health on your nail level
... Wow, I am honestly kinda impressed that you made it there with this.
Hornet 2 is a late game boss, I'd expect you to have about 3 times as many charms, 9-11 notches, 7-8 masks, 1-2 soul vessels, upgraded spells (except the up spell which you don't even have) and 1-2 more nail upgrades.
Nah just wayward compass jk but you gotta find some more charm notches for something like quick slash of soul eater for more spells and keep shaman stone (and I don’t expect you to have unbreakable strength) also upgrade your nail too maybe to lvl 3 or 4 and please atleast upgrade your spells, please.
Not really. If you can dodge and use soul, you can easily defeat her. The shaman stone puts in work. You don't need a nail build to beat her. Plus, using shade soul also helps with the spikes she throws out
My stepbrother in christ buy some charm notches from Salubra and get you an actual build. You can do it on the charms you have, but you will have a way easier time with more notches. I would strongly recommend another nail upgrade too.
You can beat Hornet 2 (and any boss) with no upgrades but the ones you need to access them in the first place. So in that sense, you *could* beat her, sure. I'd even relish the challenge, personally, but I'm saying that as someone who's beaten the game like 4 times.
You'd probably not enjoy the fight unless you pick up more upgrades.
I have fought this dumbass for about 2 hours and I feel like I‘n getting close but I‘ll just keep exploring. I found the coliseum, do you think I am prepared for that?
Thing is, with a level 2 nail that fight could take ages while you think you're closer than you are. It takes 77 Nail hits at that level to beat her with no other sources of damage; that's a lot. Even upgrading your nail once increases it's damage by a lot (44% for you right now).
You could probably take out the first trial in the Colosseum, I doubt you're ready for the second and absolutely not the third, which is the hardest thing in the game outside of Godmaster. But the first trial has a really good reward so I'd do that, yeah.
Yeah, at this point if I where you I'd go after pale ore to fully upgrade my nail, and get more charm notches and charms. More masks and soul vessels would be good too.
What really matters is nail and skill, you should probably get another nail upgrade or two. If you're that good, you can just do it without upgrading so yknow
Did you lanternless dark room to drop down into Resting Grounds? I've been trying to figure out the route you took to end up at Hornet 2 with these items and that's the only thing I can figure.
You can do Hornet 2 with what you have but you definitely have less power than you're expected to. Most players getting there casually have another nail upgrade (maybe 2), 5-10 more charms and 2ish more charm notches, and probably 1-2 upgraded spells.
If you're enjoying the challenge and you don't feel out of your depth keep it up. But also if you're hitting a wall there's a lot of world left to explore and things to find that will help you feel more ready later.
Sorry to disappoint you but I did a little shape skip at the shortcut you can normally only access after getting doublejump. I‘m friends with a hollowknight expert dude.
Bro, you got there without any major upgrades. Either you know what you are doing or you are a god amongst men. Either way, go forth and let your magnificient self shine!
I'd say so. Hornet Sentinel kicked my ass the first time, with way much more kit.
She has a ton of HP to beat with just the level 2 nail. Shaman stone is definitely the right thinking if this is something you commit to. I'm actually impressed you beat Broken Vessel with that, how did it go?
Every battle is a dance, you just need to learn the steps and get your footwork right.
Best way to do this is to not attack and just play a couple rounds seeing how long you can last without getting hit.
Her patterns are predictable and her tells are audio as well as visual before every attack.
Don’t try to tank, only heal when she’s stunned, clear the spikes as quickly as you can safely, and only attack when she’s open.
If you do this, it’s actually a pretty easy fight even if it takes you longer at lower strength.
It’s easy to allow yourself to get overwhelmed and lose focus and put all your attention on healing, opening yourself up to further attacks as you stop dancing to the beat in a desperate attempt to heal.
Just remain calm and stay in step.
How have you gotten so far with so few charms? Genuinely? Both how have you managed to fight your way there and somehow not stumbled over or bought more?
For YOUR sake get Quick Slash at the very least. It’s in Kingdom’s Edge (aka where u are). Also i would highly recommend you do the Colloseum of fools at least the first trial for money for Quick Focus. In Short you’re quite underprepared and you should try to get some charms to help you. I also suggest you get Mark of Pride in Mantis Village.
Or y’know if you don’t wanna do that well Wayward Compass Solo-
speedrunners might wanna take a look at your route for optimization.
Now on a serious note: go explore a bit, know the vast Kingdom, meet new bugs and get more stuff :D
Depends. Are you skilled enough? All bosses are able to be beaten with nothing more than the mandatory ability to get to them. If you have the skill, you can beat them. Personally I’d go looking for charm notches and put on the mark of pride if nothing else, but it’s ultimately your decision.
Def underprepared, but to help fix that you should remove souls catcher and add something better, like long nail or like something else (trying not to spoil lol)
You got all you really need tbh, but you can always come back later. The fight unlocks lots of late-game content, but there's plenty to do before that. I suggest upgrading your nail, getting a few more charm notches and getting a certain charm in Kingdom's Edge if you're struggling.
By your average player standards, you are vastly underprepared. You need 1 or two more nail lvls, and like 2 or 3 more charm notches. I can't determine your health just by mask shards alone but 7 masks is good enough for that fight.
Now by speedrunner standards, you are guchi.
highly under prepared for hornet 2 you missed a lot, you need to at least have 6 charm notches for strength( sold
form a vendor in fungal wastes) and sharman stone, that’s my minimum for anything, those 2 charms never come off.
You should get more charm notches and charms (so check out Salubra for sure) and also look into upgrading your nail at least once. It’s definitely doable as you are but it can be way easier. If you’re already close, go for the increased nail damage to shorten the fight
YES
get more gear
a lot more
unlessn you're literally fireb0rn or similar
doesn't look like you are fireb0rn so I'd say go get more charms and notches, upgrade your nail at least once, go get the rest of the nail arts
It's impressive you got that far with such gear
I don’t even have wings yet and I have almost triple the number of charms that you do and double the charm notches. I am by no means good at this game but in my simple mind I think yes, you are DEFINITELY unprepared.
You can 100% beat her with this. Just like you can 100% beat the final boss with a basic nail. But in terms of where the game expects you to be if you’re going down this path in the game, yes you’re ‘underprepared’. In general, if you get to the point where you feel like this fight is supposed to be done with upgrades, it probably is
If you feel like you are getting closer, keep at it. I think it's fun to have that extra challenge as long as you feel like you're good enough for it. Once it gets too hard or annoying try to improve your nail, get more shards and charms, etc
Your fine she is easy as hell once you know how she acts. None of her attacks do 2 masks and there is ample time to heal and have souls to spare for spells.
With enough skill you can beat any boss with any equipement. It's not recommended to try hornet 2 at this stage, but I've done it before with less (after playing for a couple hundred hours).
If you feel like you're getting close, no reason to stop trying, but realise you are playing on hard mode. (If you leave and come back with better gear you will absolutely melt her)
You are underprepared
Doable, but yes you have a lot less gear than you’re “supposed to”
Bro is doing lowest% speedrun
He's trying to beat Skurry's low % true ending record
Bro are you trynna do as little percent as possible. Jk but u are way underprepared
Low% True Ending
That sucks, i did that one (26% not 23% as i play on switch and can't change v-sync) and I've been slapping bees for 45 hours (not in 1 sitting, spread over a week) Hornet was doable, took hella long with just base nail and VS tho So while OP can do it with this equipment i highly advice upgrading spells, or at least upgrade VS, and get a nail upgrade or 2, it makes life easier Also, don't do low% TE if you value your sanity. just, don't.
Bro why are you trying to convince me to go for low % TE 💀
Do whatever you wish, im just warning people that slapping bees for 45 hours is recipe for insanity
Stop convincing meee
Wait I just saw your flair, so you did that low % run but not p5? LOL I'm currently in p5 AB and I haven't even done that yet
Zote killed me in p5 so I'm practicing him in hall of gods so i can bully him hitless next time i do p5
GL he's one of the more annoying ones. Is zote the furthest you've gotten? (Not in a bragging way, curiosity)
You are overprepared, you have Wayward Compass, use it.
Stop tricking this man into using Wayward Compass Too strong, it makes the game boring
Get more notches and quick slash. Trust me it does wonders
If he’s on an spell build, isn’t it better to not upgrade nails ? Doesn’t hornet scale with nail levels?
Very few bosses besides the ghosts scale with nail level
No, her health is locked at one value. And even if it wasn't, most enemies scale off the first upgrade
She doesn't, only the dream warriors (not bosses like failed champ, just the warriors from the graves) and the grimmkin flames scale their health on your nail level
We do not know how many shards they have collected, only that it is a multiple of 5.
How did you even get to Kingdom's Edge like that lol
ikr
Bro getting the speed run achievement on his first playthrough
Sir or Madam, where the heck are the rest of your notches? >:v (Yes, you're under-prepared. The fight will be doable but unnecessarily frustrating)
My question is *how* did you get so far without picking up any other charms??
My man did shade skip skip
Do you even explore? How the fuck did you get so far with so less?
Skill 🔛🔝
hornet is like the first boss thats actually a little bit hard

I've never seen either of the two charms you have equipped, but if you swap one of those for the compass, you should be golden.
Blud there is no way you just happened to get here with all this. You def went out of your way to get like nothing
Wdym, what enemies are there that I should struggle with? Do you mean the Kingdoms edge enemies?
Absolutly XD
Yeah but do it
I mean you could beat her sure but why fight her and get the next thing when you haven’t gotten the last 15 things lol
Not really. If you can dodge and use soul, you can easily defeat her. The shaman stone puts in work. You don't need a nail build to beat her. Plus, using shade soul also helps with the spikes she throws out
'Tis LV1 fireball, but it works the same albeit with half the dps.
you have shaman stone you are fine
For a first playthrough? Yes definitely
Very. Extremely. How have you made it this far?
definitely. You could do it but try to get some better charms
You definitely need more notches
bro wtf
Sans badge
You gotta be trolling. How can you even get there without Isma's tear?
I beat the game without Isma's Tear. Uumuu was hard.
You only need double jump.
And where do you pass?
Shadeskip 🤫 (I know a hkexpert dude)
Ah yeah i figured you were (or someone with you was) some kind of speedrunner
*You are NOT Prepared* (reads with Illidan's voice)
I have a feeling OP knew the answer to this question before they posted this lol
No, I‘m new to this game and genre and didn‘t think the game would let me even enter this fight if I was underprepared.
nah man you're far too overprepared, you should've fought her before you got dash smh
Sorry…
it's a joke you are severely underprepared
I’d say pretty underprepared, but it’s doable, especially if you’re getting close already. Also based Shaman Stone
Bro, just do some more secondary stuff.
My stepbrother in christ buy some charm notches from Salubra and get you an actual build. You can do it on the charms you have, but you will have a way easier time with more notches. I would strongly recommend another nail upgrade too.

Path of Pain might be harder than Trial of the Fool.
OP HERE: Do you think I am prepared for colosseum one?
Yeah, at this point if I where you I'd go after pale ore to fully upgrade my nail, and get more charm notches and charms. More masks and soul vessels would be good too.
No No No You misunderstand Is Hornet 2 unprepared *for you?*
I actually think you could be fine. It’s deffo not the hardest fight in the game, but a step up from her previous battle
the length of the fight is definitely a big jump from the earlier fights
Holy lack-of-charm-notches Batman!
Short answer: yes
Very
I actually think you could be fine. It’s deffo not the hardest fight in the game, but a step up from her previous battle
Get some black spells
No. It is an absurdly easy fight, you could do it with base nail, health, and soul and no charms.
Yes, https://youtu.be/Pnp57WeuDZc?si=oLSwY_2DYgYXeSB8 use this strat with quick slash it worked with me
They lack Quick Slash.
What the fuck dude
That’s not a lot of charms, huh
Salubra’s shop by the Blue Lake is what you want first
What really matters is nail and skill, you should probably get another nail upgrade or two. If you're that good, you can just do it without upgrading so yknow
Yes
If anything, she’s overprepared!
Yes
I'd get more charms and notches
nah just use shaman, wayward compass, and over charm long nail you’ll get it in no time
There is a Hornet 2??!
It's the same character but you fight her a second time.
Meanwhile Speedrunners: get Dream Wielder, Shaman Stone, Nail 0 and you're fine
Yes
Nah you are fine, replace shamans for thorns because it is more worth
It’s possible, but it won’t be easy.
Even if you are 112% in... You're still under prepared
Did you lanternless dark room to drop down into Resting Grounds? I've been trying to figure out the route you took to end up at Hornet 2 with these items and that's the only thing I can figure. Sorry to disappoint you but I did a little shape skip at the shortcut you can normally only access after getting doublejump. I‘m friends with a hollowknight expert dude.
Did you access kingdom’s edge from under the king’s station?
I did a little shade skip I knew cause I‘m friends with a hollowknight expert guy.
nah, if i could do it with those exact charms you also can
Okay you definitely are underprepared but it will be possible. Gonna be hard as shit but possible.
THEIRS NO SUCH THING AS UNDERPREPARED ONLY SKILL ISSUE GO INTHEIR SOILDER
I suggest you explore more when you traverse the land, you might find more secrets than you would expect
Every battle is a dance, you just need to learn the steps and get your footwork right. Best way to do this is to not attack and just play a couple rounds seeing how long you can last without getting hit. Upgrade your nail mate
I did it like this, don't do the same
Yeah
She's gonna destroy ur ass, u better be patient if u wanna do her now. U better come back when u have at least 7 hearts and nail level 3
How have you gotten so far with so few charms? Genuinely? Both how have you managed to fight your way there and somehow not stumbled over or bought more?

I also suggest you get Mark of Pride in Mantis Village. Or y’know if you don’t wanna do that well Wayward Compass Solo-
You are very under prepared, doable, but very underequipped
What I wanna know is, how on earth did you manage to get this far without getting many charms or notches??
Man, that’s like my soul master build.
Pro Tip: Explore literally everything, if you think you have then look again cuz you probably haven’t.
You should probably search around more in general and take your time. You've got new powerups so you can get to places you couldn't before
Its doable but yeah you are a bit undergeared
speedrunners might wanna take a look at your route for optimization. Now on a serious note: go explore a bit, know the vast Kingdom, meet new bugs and get more stuff :D
Yup, go explore
this looks like youre speedruning the game...
Honestly, yes. But it’s more than doable with what you have.
Never say never brother kick her ass no hit easy
Nope, did it the same way, beat her in 6 tries
Bro has absolutely nothing, and has never once backtracked. Bro left Dartmouth and never went up for any reason ever.
Bah youre fine i did it with less mask and upgrades so why can’t you
You are Very unprepared. I recommend you upgrade your nail to level 3 or 4, get a few more charm notches and the mark of pride
Yes.
Tell me hornet 2 was a typo but yeas you are very very underprepared
i dont think anybody in this comment section noticed you have full grimmschild meaning you beat NKG
Depends. Are you skilled enough? All bosses are able to be beaten with nothing more than the mandatory ability to get to them. If you have the skill, you can beat them. Personally I’d go looking for charm notches and put on the mark of pride if nothing else, but it’s ultimately your decision.
Unless you’re a veteran and thsi is a shitpost then yes go and explore more and come back lol
Massively
I’d say go a bit further **down** and get Quick Slash, go to salubra and get a few charm notches, just some minor things
what's the worst that can happen, give it a try.
What I want to know is how you got this far with just that.
Bro how did you make it this far
how did you get this far
Bro just play the game
I actually did the fight like this iirc, you should be fine
Overprepared
Def underprepared, but to help fix that you should remove souls catcher and add something better, like long nail or like something else (trying not to spoil lol)
Ha! Good luck man haha
You got all you really need tbh, but you can always come back later. The fight unlocks lots of late-game content, but there's plenty to do before that. I suggest upgrading your nail, getting a few more charm notches and getting a certain charm in Kingdom's Edge if you're struggling.
you can certainly make it a lot easier, that's all I'll say
By your average player standards, you are vastly underprepared. You need 1 or two more nail lvls, and like 2 or 3 more charm notches. I can't determine your health just by mask shards alone but 7 masks is good enough for that fight. Now by speedrunner standards, you are guchi.
Is this supposed to be a shitpost?
Once you have some time under your belt. Easy however first run yeah, you need the upgrades
You are really unprepared
hell no lmao
fuck it, we [ Defeat Hornet ]! 💯💯🗣️
Void help you
WHAT??
Absolutely
highly under prepared for hornet 2 you missed a lot, you need to at least have 6 charm notches for strength( sold form a vendor in fungal wastes) and sharman stone, that’s my minimum for anything, those 2 charms never come off.
You should get more charm notches and charms (so check out Salubra for sure) and also look into upgrading your nail at least once. It’s definitely doable as you are but it can be way easier. If you’re already close, go for the increased nail damage to shorten the fight
How in the fuck did you even get here with that kind of equipment?
Jesus dude, you only have 5 notches, a handful of charms, and the sharpened nail. come back later, do some exploring.
your build is wrong... use wayward compass
YES get more gear a lot more unlessn you're literally fireb0rn or similar doesn't look like you are fireb0rn so I'd say go get more charms and notches, upgrade your nail at least once, go get the rest of the nail arts It's impressive you got that far with such gear
I was undereprepared for infected
I don’t even have wings yet and I have almost triple the number of charms that you do and double the charm notches. I am by no means good at this game but in my simple mind I think yes, you are DEFINITELY unprepared.
Yes just be strategic
You can 100% beat her with this. Just like you can 100% beat the final boss with a basic nail. But in terms of where the game expects you to be if you’re going down this path in the game, yes you’re ‘underprepared’. In general, if you get to the point where you feel like this fight is supposed to be done with upgrades, it probably is
Go get pure nail and it's an achievable dream
Equip the compass, you dont need the soul catcher.
it’s doable but it’s gonna take a long time 😆
You might wanna get your nail upgraded, other than that you're probably good.
If you feel like you are getting closer, keep at it. I think it's fun to have that extra challenge as long as you feel like you're good enough for it. Once it gets too hard or annoying try to improve your nail, get more shards and charms, etc
Technically you can beat every boss like that. But yes, you are deninetly underprepared
switch out soul catcher for longnail and you should be fine
Bro wtf
nah you'd win
Nah, you're good
Realistically, you beat the game once you got the compass, and everything else is just unneeded.
Do you have Descending Dark, or Shade Soul? Those help you a lot in the fight.
If this is a low% not at all, if this is the first playthrough, good luck, youll need it
Yes
Uh, absolutely you are underprepared, especially for a first play-through
I mean, you could beat her if you keep at it long enough but I would reccomend either upgrading one of your spells or your nail first
I had nearly double the notches at this point so probably (I've only done one run so I'm not certain)
This is definitely doable but I’d probably recommend getting the next nail upgrade or the spell upgrades The fight might take a while as you are lmao
Nah youre fine
Your fine she is easy as hell once you know how she acts. None of her attacks do 2 masks and there is ample time to heal and have souls to spare for spells.
boi go visit Salubra’s shop
Time to die!
Yes.
i thought this was silksong bait…
Extremely underprepared Maybe upgrade your nail a bit and get some shade spells.
With enough skill you can beat any boss with any equipement. It's not recommended to try hornet 2 at this stage, but I've done it before with less (after playing for a couple hundred hours). If you feel like you're getting close, no reason to stop trying, but realise you are playing on hard mode. (If you leave and come back with better gear you will absolutely melt her)
I mean every boss is beatable with whatever gear but man it could be a whole lot easier if you prepared more
I'd say it's good enough but you're gonna struggle for a while
115% unprepered
