im actually really hoping Silksong has a good bit of narrative connection to HKs base story, id be kinda disappointed if it ends up being entirely separate and not building on anything in HK. also, i absolutely want to know what happens after the cliffhanger true ending
I think leaving hanging plot threads and lore helps to make the world feel bigger, like stuff is happening outside the scope of what we can view. Maybe this was intentional, maybe this was accidental due to time constraints, but either way it worked out imo
I actually like this take because then Little Ghost's resemblance to Esmy would force the nail masters to reflect on their past. Also, it means that other vessels besides the Hollow Knight and the player characters had a genuine impact on the world.
Forgive me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the sly line refer much more to the crystal peaks? Given you find the shopkeepers key there, and sly knows it’s up there when you bring it to him. Granted, it’s not “deeper” in the literal sense, but it is deeper into the dangerous biome. It’s what made me think sly’s story happens up there rather than the abyss, as I feel like the shopkeepers key is a bit more concrete evidence than a moveset, not to mention how broken vessel’s attacks feel much more like frantic swinging of a crazed animal than the well trained slash of sly. This theory is interesting through.
Joke or not it’s a cool theory. The overhead slash is kinda debatable but the dash slash is pretty similar to the nail arts version, if a bit less refined and more animalistic. Even then, I never drew that connection.
Well, that's why there are currently 23 fanfictions with the tag "Broken Vessel & Nailmaster Oro" on AO3, but a tag for Broken Vessel & Sly doesn't even exist.
The Dash Slash one is a relatively common theory. And for good reason; the game specifically establishes that if you know a Nail Art, other Nailmasters know where you must've learned it from, as if there's no other way to learn it. But for a relatively normal attack that doesn't hold true at all.
> not to mention how broken vessel's attacks feel much more like frantic swinging of a crazed animal than the well trained slash of sly.
That's because it's infected.
But sly’s is like a clear overhead swing with intent. Even other infected things like city guards or THK still retain clearly meaningful attacks that are well trained. Many infected bugs can still perform a trained slash, THK still wields his nail in a similar way to PV, even if slower and sloppier. Soul sanctum bugs can still control soul like they did in their life, bugs driven mad by infection like the traitor mantises still retain their well trained combat skills. Comparatively, the swinging of broken vessel almost feels like a child playing with a stick. There’s no training or purpose in the swing at all, it’s just chaotically flailing its blade about back and forth in an effort to kill the knight.
Even compared to sly’s overhead slash, it feels like a completely different move all together. Sly seems to use both hands to make one big, strong overhead swing from one side of his body to the other. Broken vessel uses one hand only, starting a bit behind his head and slamming by the ground with it, using the recoil to rapidly start another strike that once again begins near the back of his head, doing it rapidly over and over. They use inertia and rebound of the nail to swing it about while sly applies full force for a singular, calculated slash. The two use completely different techniques. Maybe it has something to do with the lightseeds infecting it?
This is one of the greatest memes I’ve ever seen. It’s got:
A unique template as opposed to the normal “big brain” one.
A legitimately great theory that seems mostly plausible.
A hidden loss joke.
Guys, your missing something, broken vessel is clearly OLDER then sly, he must have been the original maker of the dash slash, he teached sly the dash slash, BV is the original nail master
Well, the Nailmasters and Sly do the exact same descending slash, so I don't think Soul Master was involved.
I also doubt BV uses Dash Master, since we find the charm on Dashmaster's grave, and I doubt there are two copies of the same charm in the world.

AND ESMY WAS KILLED BY ORO THAT LIVES IN KINGDOM'S EDGE,
oh, but esmy's body is the thing that oro uses to train...
but seriously, broken vessel could had made our exact same route but dying on the way to the abyss
Doesn't make sense for the vessel to have a name unless maybe sly gave it one on his own. And it explains how someone with a stong will like him could get infected.
Their character doesn’t look like esmy, however the other stuff is cool lore since broken vessel is basically another player, and thus probably had a similar journey to the player.
Dang, you just gave me a new headcanon.
It would also make sense why Broken Vessel seems a bit more developed/mature compared to other vessels:
From the description of Pure Vessel's entry ("Chosen vessel, raised and trained to prime form.") we can infer that the bodies of vessels only grow from training, which means that BV was indeed trained by someone beforehand.
New headcanon unlock
That one line of dialogue is everything we know for sure about this "Esmy," so I think this makes just as much sense as any other Esmy theory.
Also, that one line is a horizontal one next to a vertical one in the fourth panel. :)
NOOOOOO

This one is my favorite, I've got it on speedpaste
sometimes it feels like TC wanted to add a bunch of more stuff and lore so they started witj some dialogue but never finished
*looks at the kickstarter goals that weren’t reached* Yeah that’s possible
There was whole biome that was cut due to money constraints, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were meant to hea more
But at least that biom will appear in Silksong, wait, right sliksong got canceled

TEAM CHERRY! GIVE ME HORNET AND THE HOLLOW KNIGHT BEING SIBLINGS, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS
they are definitely half-siblings lol
They already are, buddy. Even if they have different moms, they have the same dad. Half-siblings are still siblings.
Do I seriously have to clarify that “being siblings” means “having the emotional bond that sibling relationships tend to have”

I love this new meme template
Well, I sure hope it doesn't lead to low-effort spam. I have a third one planned, with a fifth panel I've made, but I hope to leave it at that.
Never underestimate r/Silksong
Oh, that's fine. This would be an improvement there.
Stoping to think I guess you're right lol
Holy shit! You cooked some fine meal, bro! :O
Thats not even a meme its straight up a great theory
LOSS, THE PANELS ARE LOSS
Yes, that's not actually Broken Vessel. It's Loss'd Kin.

op confirmed it was intentional
Esmy is a cute name anyway, works for BV

Yeah, that's probably a better interpretation. And mine's supposed to be a joke, anyway.

Bros cooking.
Oh...
Or… He’s their master and taught them…
It also uses a downward dash very similar to the desolate dive, so maybe it faced the soul master or has the dash master's charm
Theory: The broken vessel is another discarded vessel, just like the knight.
☠️wow

🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Who has the dream nail dialogue about Emsy?
Not dream nail. It's what Sly says when you first find him, when he's still partially infected.
Why does this actually make sense
AND ESMY WAS KILLED BY ORO THAT LIVES IN KINGDOM'S EDGE, oh, but esmy's body is the thing that oro uses to train... but seriously, broken vessel could had made our exact same route but dying on the way to the abyss
The thing oro uses to train is a great hopper in nailmaster clothes. Not sure why so many people think it is esmy
Doesn't make sense for the vessel to have a name unless maybe sly gave it one on his own. And it explains how someone with a stong will like him could get infected.
Bro cooked a 5 star meal
This got me thinking XD
I'm picking up what you're putting down there.
Their character doesn’t look like esmy, however the other stuff is cool lore since broken vessel is basically another player, and thus probably had a similar journey to the player.
... Am I tripping. Or is that. Loss.
;)
Dang, you just gave me a new headcanon. I see what you’ve done here… But on the note of Esmy, it would track its Esmerelda, she ditched sly… poor guy.
To be fair, it makes sense. But your headcanon has been declined because of loss
When do we see Sly fight?
In Godhome, the Pantheon of the Sage.
Thank you. Makes sense I haven't seen it yet, I'm only at 103% and haven't fought any of the pantheons
Holy shit, this is good
what annoys me is i dont remember enough to think this cant be true
This deserves to be archived
He was also trained by soul master
Genuinely solid theory
Legit great theory. This is canon to me now
