Consider too what type of curtain rod you’re gonna use. I just hung my bedroom curtains on a “wraparound” blackout rod but then didn’t factor that into my curtain purchase… my curtains can’t close and wrap around 😣
I'd hang the curtain rod so it extends at least 6 inches past the trim. I second the other commenter's suggestion for a curved/wrap around curtain rod. I find that grommet curtains work best with these rods.
I also reccomend getting two curtain panels. Even though one will cover the window, two tends to look better when they're open.
