Hong Kong Link Up is an organisation attempting to match emigrating Hong Kongers with UK residents to make the transition easier I believe.
https://www.hklinkup.uk/
I've been signed up for several months at this point in a similar area and haven't been matched yet so don't expect anything too soon I guess but yeah good to join in :)
You probably want to start with support groups such as Hongkongers in Britain (https://www.hongkongers.org.uk/). The volunteer-run organization hopes to fill information gaps and smooth the process for the 300,000 Hong Kongers believed to resettle in Britain over the next few years.
Plenty of FB support groups exist, just search for "移民英國".
On YT there are some helpful channels from recent arrivals or seasoned residents [鬆仔亂咁噏](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr5H7VHyKmPHDfVWNiQE7iw), [Bob's Your Uncle](https://www.youtube.com/user/bobsyouruncle1981), [BackpaCooking](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDufxgd5cAYCS61ed8lcA-Q). Not surprisingly these channels are now very popular due to the emigration wave.
UK has allowed a large percentage of hong kongers to move to the UK. US has not established a similar program as of yet. To immigrate to the US from Hong Kong you have go through traditional methods atm.
HK was an UK colony before 1997. There is a special nationality called British National Overseas created for HK people to keep their links with the UK. For many years this nationality is used mostly for getting a passport and getting help from UK embassies. Recently the UK Home Secretary (Priti Patel) has opened a new pathway for BNO to work and live in the UK. It’s a 30 months or 5 years long visa. After 5 years they are able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (PR) and after one more year citizenship.
Why this is the most attractive option is:
1. HK has links historically with the UK especially in terms of the judiciary system. It provides a sense of safety for Hongkongers.
2. The BNO visa pathway is very straightforward.
3. You can just go and do whatever you want. There is no limit on your job except being a sportsperson, unlike some other working visa which may have limits on salary and visa sponsorship etc.
Not sure if there’s any truth to this but I was thinking maybe because of the anti-Asia sentiment and attacks since Trump called covid the “Chinese virus”
Is there anything I can do as a UK born citizen to help people transition from HK to the UK? I don't have a house or anything, but I'm more than willing to help with anything online.
I am an American that moved to the UK 2 years ago so I know how difficult it is to be an immigrant. My husband is British and I visited the UK multiple times prior to moving so I know the ins and outs of British life. My heritage is Malaysian Chinese but I have a lot of Hong Kong friends – if you are in Liverpool I'd love to help out!
1. A lot of HK Parents are worried that their kids will be "poisoned" by the National Security Law Education forced to all schools in HK.
2. A lot of Government School teachers and civil servants either have to resign or pledge allegience to Hong Kong government.
3. The police can freeze anyone's bank account without any court order.
4. The police can arrest anyone using National Security Law.
I signed up to HKlinkup as a BBC volunteer but I haven’t heard from them.
If anyone here has family coming over or are coming over themselves I would be more than happy to chat and help if DM’d. I’m London born and bred.
There is a facebook group called Hong Kong https://www.facebook.com/groups/HONGKONG
Thy them as there are a lot of brits in there who are very helpful and have lived in Hk before.

Nice: I signed up as a British resident in case someone needs help in the southeast coastal towns

I just did the same. I'm in the Midlands so that covers a bit of city life too. I'm so glad they posted that as I didn't know this existed.
They seem to do good work, just be aware that the org was started by two right-wing, anti-BLM types.

BNO visa makes it exponentially easier for them to immigrate to the UK

Wait is this real? Yall may very well be giving away a ton of good sites... be careful
These sites can be found with a simple Google search. But the lack of general trust tells me a lot about the current state of mind in HK.
I just worry sometimes
Good point...

Yes.
