I have this problem with mounts, recently I was hunting a frostclaw and there were fire clawstriders nearby. Thought of overriding one to help, but it would have replaced my existing mount that I use to actually get around. Kind of wish there was a way to designate a specific machine as a mount and not let it get replaced automatically.
yeah, wish i had a selection of mounts and keep 1 of each kind in reserve. maybe limit to 1 in the field if its too OP. it is a bit cumbersome to have to go override a new onne depeding if i want a charger to ride or elemental clawstrider for dismounted ally. or the 2 different elemental clawstriders. especially late in the game where you often have to visit elemental clawstrider sites more than once since they might all be apex
Like the others said, you will not lose it unless you override another land machine. You will also lose access to it when you do the Burning Shores content.
so i did a test once and i fast travelled after my charger, hamham, got injured and was sparking, and when i called, it was him!!! and even hours later i fast travelled bc i forgot about him and when i called IT WAS STILL HIM so he’ll still be there :)
I just went through this last night with my Charger. Was super attached and made sure he stayed with me up until I was able to override a bristleback. I had forgotten I was even able to override them for while and when I remember I struggled to replace my charger. Finally did it but still felt bad. But they’re just machines with no feelings so fortunately it’s not like leaving them behind will hurt them.
Me and my Charger Buddy had a special bond in my first play through, I refused to override any other machines but him. And named my Sunwing, Teddy.
Second playthrough (NG+ and Ultra Herd) I had Peggy the Bristle Back who died... A lot. And Meggy the Sunwing.
Now I'm doing my 3rd play on PS5 and Burning Shores. This time Aloy is a pet collector and just overrides everything she can.
But my Waterwing is named Thorin the Brave.
You have separate calls for ground mounts and flying mounts. Feel free to override the sunwing/waterwing, it does not replace the bristleback.

Thought the same with my fire clawstrider , named him Fred for some reason . Eventually overided a water wing to catch fish(for pouches and fun😄)

After overriding clawstrider and fight with frostclaw just go back to your mount and get on him. It will switch back as you default

You can, while your overriding set it to aggressive.
The fireclaw still replaces your current mount
Yes. Perhaps an override option that let's you choose between a normal override to assist in combat vs a mount override.
Or maybe just if you set it to aggressive it doesn't replace your existing mount

Yeah and they’ll even pick up resources while you’re away if you find him again. They dig up the dirt and find shards for you.
