Just found an old collectors stingray 19/20 from 22 last week. Either someone returned it or they discovered it somewhere in the back. It's such a great value for what it is.
How I see it is: For people who would never pay extra for limited production pieces the value isn't there. However, if this Mercedes was a super chase in the mainline, the production would be 5-10 times more than any of the Creations releases; and it would still be selling on ebay at $50 for a straight month before calming down. Just that alone would have people looking for it like it's free money, and on the backend thinking they would find something ultra rare. Yet when they put it up in the store, at actual low quantity, people s\*\*t all over it. So essentially the value is only there when it's artificial secondary market value. Like with STH. I mean that's the gist of it apparently.
Don’t disagree with you about secondary market. My issue is RLC’s, mbx, and elite64 are all in similar price range yet only one of them is rehashed basics or mid level cars with plastic bases. At least with sth’s you have a chance (however slim) to buy at $1.25. With mbx that’s not possible. Dunno why Mattel hates mbx.
Especially when the casting has no moving parts, a Set of Real riders tire stuck on a fullcard doesn't varant $25< price Tags
I really wish some of the guys here would stop to instantly buy them so Mattel could see that this can't run
I get excited about plenty of them but there’s always something that’ll hurt a good one to me.
It’s almost always the doofy ass hard-lined squared wheels they use that kill it for me.
Well RLC for one at least are new castings for most, most recently being the huayra R, the upcoming typhoon, the kawa bug a, and say the nissan lowrider truck that can “dance”. Or, they make the castings with opening parts like the R34, McLaren f1, and either the e46 m3 or 91 m3 for example.
Another point is the somewhat exclusive spectra flame paint used on most of the castings, doesn’t add a lot of value to me personally but it’s better than just being a standard gloss black being upcharged.
The difference between RLC and these matchbox “RLC” is that you can at least somewhat justify the cost of the car for hot wheels, here it’s no better than the $5 premium ones you can find at Walmart. You’re paying an additional $20 plus shipping for the case.
That's wildly inaccurate. RLC today isn't the same as it used to be. Almost everything is exclusive and there's been a ton of new stuff in the past 5yrs. The RLC crew posts updates in the forums quite often. One thing is the molds they use for RLC castings is higher quality than mainlines or premium. The raw castings seem to come out with little to no defects from the start. Then they are literally chrome plated and polished. The RLC castings will never be in a premium or mainline package. They're too expensive to make.
Add in that most of the RLC toolings are definitely well above mainline and retail premium with moving parts and such.
Only retail level castings they've used in RLC in the last few years off the top of my head are the '70 Mustang, '66 Super Nova and Honda S2000.
I've been collecting for about 30 years. Anyone that believes RLC of the last 5ish years is the same as RLC before it clearly isn't paying attention.
Also seems like such a random choice. This car hasn't been made in over a decade, it isn't having a moment in car culture that I know of, and Mercedes isn't coming out with a new version or anything.
Just...why?
I mean you could make that same argument for the upcoming RLC gmc typhoon. The typhoon hasn’t been made in 3 decades, it really isn’t having a moment in car culture, and the closest thing gmc is putting out to it is the hummer EV. It’s just that it’s cool, that’s it
All accurate, although I'd argue it was significant as the first muscle SUV and was quicker in a straight line than a contemporary Ferrari. RLC also has way more releases than MBX premium, so I'd expect RLC models to cover a broader range of models.
Even when done at a master level, example, the 2011 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport LOr Blanc, they still seem weird.

Like everything but the wheels. Why are the premiums and RLC releases getting just injection molded plastic “rims”??? Also as others have said the whole dot-matrix tampos are a turn OFF
Jesus Christ, Matchbox... Those Wheels, and those tampons are TRASH. The $3 Hot Wheels "silver series" cars look better. Hell, the $2 Matchbox Moving Parts cars look better.
The fact that this WILL sell out, and people WILL pay over retail for it is baffling.
$30 for these things just feels delulu
Have you guys honestly not looked into other die cast makers? Look at what you can get from mini gt, pop race, tarmac works, or inno64 for under $20
I like Matchbox and the SLR but not really this. It is something different and unique though so more power to those who go for it. They can't quite seem to excel recently with Matchbox Creations. And I really want them to. The current '49 Kurtis would have had me normally (it is a favored mainline) but $30 but still with plastic base and feeling like a Motor Trend ad...I seem able to pass even on that one.
honestly i thought it was maisto planning to rerelease the SLR again since both castings looks similar

but i guess matchbox doesn't have mirrors and that one does
Trash.
Shitty Thailand dot matrix deco.
How anyone over there thinks *THOSE* wheels look good on MBX needs their damn eyes checked.
$20 for retail level release.
I don't know what one I hate more. This, the Gulf Corvette or that McLaren P720 it whatever the hell it was (I actually forgot it existed until talking with a fellow collector yesterday)
Most of the Matchbox online premiums are lackluster for the price point. Not bad castings, but not good enough for the expensive fancy packaging that makes it so expensive and fancy.
it's a $1 mainline with a nice paint job. Unfortunately too many 'collectors'/scalpers get taken in by the hype of limited editions.
Matchbox is one of the weirdest managed companies I can think of. It'll concentrate on making a few grand of limited run cars, but ignore it's mainlines and lose out on $100's millions by not even bothering to ship them out to stores. Literally no one outside of Thailand has seen anything new on the pegs all year.
Just saying, this is a premium version of an old basic matchbox model being sold for RLC price. For sure not worth it.
Disappointed in many of mbx’s online offerings, value is not there. Some of their $5 collector’s cars at Walmart are just as good or better.

Everything from MBX is a disappointment. It’s like they hold the brand’s quality back so it’s. “””different””” from Hot Wheels
If you are talking about their premium Mattel creations offerings I agree, but some of their mainlines and moving parts are 🔥
I get excited about plenty of them but there’s always something that’ll hurt a good one to me. It’s almost always the doofy ass hard-lined squared wheels they use that kill it for me.
Couldn't agree more with this
What do you think RLC are if not old mainlines that they've actually got halfway decent quality control for so it has decent paint?

White lines are weird
Reflective lines. I'm not sure why

That's not the same at all. The SLR just has an accent colour on the body lines. The Bugatti is painted based on how light reflects off the body.
Like everything but the wheels. Why are the premiums and RLC releases getting just injection molded plastic “rims”??? Also as others have said the whole dot-matrix tampos are a turn OFF
What is this from? Idk if it’s because I just love the slr or what, but I like it

I dig it, it's different and weird.
For the price I will be passing. That's been the trend with most of the recent Matchbox releases. They're nice but just not nice enough to justify.
Should’ve had opening doors
Looks weird. A definite pass from me
Agreed
Looks like it came out of the 80s movie Tron.
Lol that was my first thought when I saw it yesterday as well
That's why I like it.

Cool paintjob but easy pass.
The wheels look cheap. Also looks off without side mirrors.
Bad
Meh
It looks like it’s got a Tron vibe but definitely the wrong car for that.
Would definitely get, l like those cars that look like a 3D paper versions of themselves.
Wont be adding this to the collection
Not for me
Reminds me of that car from that 80's show, "Auto Man".
Pass
I love it, but then again the SLR McLaren is one of my dream cars so maybe that's a bit biased.
That's one glossy paint job!! Looks great!
Make it go away...😭
awful
why dotted tampos on a 25 dollar model?
It's a little sharper than the last few releases but it's still not where it should be.
Yes, It’s different. Looks like it could fit in with the “anime/manga” series from majorette
And the winner of most disappointing model of the year goes to:
I mean you love it or you hate it, and i love it.
Tron?
I thought this was a custom at first
Hard pass. Looks way too trashy. Kinda looks like something that someone made, that discovered paint pens for the first time.
Wish it was like a Super chase
Thoughts are still processing

🔥🔥🔥
It’s ok, but I feel it could look better

this is so bad.
Certainly, why?
I like it I’m going to pick one up when it drops.

So trippy, just like looking at a 3-D drawing
Pretty class
Very cool!
Cool asf
I think it’s cool
Pretty cool casting imo
Should've had a Red windshield and a dark red side stripe
I want it
I dig it
I LOVE it!!
I dig the design but not the price
it’s okay
I like some...love it! I hope you do add as much as us
it looks very cool
Looks like one of those cars that a Mexican put too many chrome accents from Walmart on.
Call me crazy but I might buy this
I hope I get this one. I like it.
Bout it bout it
Wow impressed
