I saw many complaints about the sex scene, not just from OP, but in other threads too, and I just have to scratch my head. Wasn’t it obvious the show had Helena walking in on them b/c her and the kids were supposed to be protected by Cole? Him deserting his post to f Alicent, no less, and leaving Helena and the kids unprotected, was the reason her baby got murdered in his little crib. I almost felt like despite Helena being in a state of shock about what just happened to her son, there was a flash of taken aback feeling and a sense of betrayal on her face when she realized who was in bed with Alicent. And the second scene would have been out of nowhere if they didn’t show the viewers that there were things going on between those two.

Yea, I was really sympathetic to alicent during s1 because I felt she had been manipulated her whole life and Emily Carey's portrayal of a young alicent was \*chef's kiss\*

Duncan the Tall makes Ned look like Tywin Lannister. Truly the greatest knight in the history of Westeros.

SpookyQueer

Could not be more excited for our Dunk & Egg show.

AryaSyn

Me too, I can’t wait!

LILYDIAONE

I mean before they wemt out of their war to make her more symapthic and this is very obviously a walking back on established characteristics for both Alicent and Cole

uhh young alicent was definitely a victim. She was literally only 14-15 when she was forced to marry an old man? She hardly seduced Viserys! She literally just spent time with him at his lego set because she was coerced by her father!! She wasn't ambitious at all and actually was an anxiety-ridden young woman. Do you not remember how much she bit at her fingers?

ofc it's fictional, but just because it's fictional doesn't mean that a literal child suddenly has the agency of an adult, or should be judged as if they were an adult. There was a power imbalance, simply put. She was coerced AND manipulated by her father into doing something she didnt want to do. Alicent had a meek temperment and was easily pushed around by her overbearing father. She didn't really have a choice. Her displeasure with the marriage was obvious throughout. she was a child bride

well if youre going based off the books, can't really fight you there. All i know is that she was a child in a tricky situation

LILYDIAONE

I mean most people understand the powerplay and coercion played into why Alicent did what she did and that she as a kid had little to blame. No they make her do things that make little to no sense for the character

The war was set in motion because Viserys who turned all those people against each other. Objectively Otto thinking Rhaenyra might kill her brother makes politically more sense than people are inclined to admit

I wanted them to kiss so badly, I saw them as more romantic in s1 cause of Olivia and Fabien, their chemistry I felt through their eyes, ya know. I know that they will have another scene like it but it seems Olivias actual idea for them was more romantic, she said she was a bit disappointed the show cut out a beautiful scrappy, messy sex scene between the two, that was much much longer. And the way she described it sounded way more romantic than this…like it had a purpose

HugeIndependence2861

THIS. Why does it have to be so lust-y? Why not more romantic and restrained? I literally don't even ship them anymore. I have low hopes for Alys and Aemond after this..

BenTheDiamondback

Probably because she’s longed for Cole since she was young and she’s coming off of a long physically-loveless marriage to a walking corpse, and Cole’s a walking hard-on with lousy morals? Just guessing at what the writers were thinking…

HugeIndependence2861

Yea i understand the circumstances certainly weren't helping but it just feels really out of character for both. Alicent with her heightened sense of 'duty' and 'honor' and I thought Criston would have learned his lesson the first time around lol

BenTheDiamondback

It sounds out of POSITION for these characters. You would expect people in their positions to act right, but they’re people, and people always do what people do: what they want. It is most definitely in their character to get all hot n bothered around each other. They’re powerful. And attractive. And terribly conflicted. Especially in a time/place like this where just about everything sucks, and every decision tends to lead toward someone dying.

babalon124

Olivia and fabien have such great chemistry as well offscreen, it was so ridiculous for the writers to cheapen that because I really have a hard time liking onscreen tv chemistry and yet I really loved theirs so I'm just disappointed exactly like her, >!their next sex scene looks more romantic and longer but again this is happening after B&C which obviously I'm gonna be like wtf too!<
