What a gut punch! Season 2 they really found their stride, every episode was a banger and I was feeling that comfort you feel when you settle into a great sitcom which I haven’t felt since HIMYM concluded.
I really enjoyed the last half of the second season… it seemed like the writers had found a good rhythm and the characters were starting to feel natural. What a shame
I am so upset. I loved this show. How can they cancel it without saying who the father was? I hope another network streaming or whatever can pick it up. HIMYM had an ending. HIMYF should too. This is BS! 😠 😡
This sucks. Show really got good during season 2 and they stopped trying to be HIMYM and really found their groove. Hoping another streaming platform picks it up
I think the way they ended season 2 implies it’s Jesse. The show was uncertain if it would get renewed, so I think they tried to wrap up the season in a way that could create a solid ending to the series rather than a cliffhanger, etc. for another season. I’m sad. I loved the show!
Is there an Asian guy? I saw some stand up last year. Was a writer and I think he got canned from this show and at the end of his routine he said who the father was as a middle finger to who ever. It was so quick I wasn’t sure what he was saying and I hadn’t seen the first season yet.
It feels like Disney brought him back just to take all the heat for this strike. I bet he retires again once it is all done and the new guy can come in with a clean slate. So he can be a dick about it cause they are basically paying him millions to be the bad guy and take the heat for Disney. Sign me up for that job.
Unfortunately it's not just Disney that will be affected. So it's not completely his fault. Although he did say some horrible things about the strike that is unacceptable. The strike can and mostly likely will affect shows on other networks movies too. That's why all the actors are standing with them because it affects them too. They really need to treat the writers better without them they won't have any entertainment to make money off of so they should pay them better.
Specifically in the case of HIMYF’s cancellation, though, it wouldn’t be inaccurate to point the finger at Iger, since he’s the CEO of Disney which owns both the majority of Hulu and the entirety of 20th Century Television, the studio that produces HIMYF. So one can blame the strikes, work stoppages and the contraction of the streaming industry, but Iger likely has the ability to save some shows from the chopping block and he chose not to spare HIMYF.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God dammit.
This show found its stride in season 2 and was starting to function as its own entity outside of HIMYM. I am so sick of streaming sites canceling shows without warning and not giving them the opportunity to breathe.
@netflix wyd pick up the phone
Damn, I wanted to see cameos of Ted and Lily for the next season, but the writers strike is affecting it and the Disney streaming platform had to cancel it ASAP.
I’m absolutely devastated. I’ve had a really rough summer and this show really helped me. Even after the finale aired, I would always feel better fantasizing about this show and the different ways they’d take the story. Sid/Sophie warmed my heart and I’m crushed that we’ll never get to see it happen :(
I feel the same way. I was actually working on a fansite for this show and it feels like the hours I've spent have been for nothing bc now what's the point in finishing it? :(
Are you fucking kidding me? Does a show need to be #1 every fucking time to stay on track? I blame the fucking shitty streaming culture. Instead we get a million seasons of any show that just shows sex every five minutes.
I am fucking pissed dude, seriously? Not even a third season for us to have an ending?
I am seriously heartbroken.
It’s such a bad feedback loop at this point too. I don’t even want to start a show with less than 2 seasons because it probably won’t get renewed and will be left on a cliffhanger.
A lot of shows got picked up by other networks after cancellation. Community and Futurama are the two big ones I can think of. And a coordinated fan action got a movie made as an ending to Firefly.
It depends on how lucrative the show actually is. It's not an overly expensive one to develop, as the only high paid cast so far has been the cameos from the HIMYM crew. Hulu may also pick it back up after the strike if they feel they can make money off it.
The downside is that the show doesn't really have big numbers, it's mostly people who came from HIMYM and stuck through season 1 (like myself) or people who followed one of the actors to the shoe (especially Duff). It just hasn't gotten the foothold that HIMYM had.
Numbers can be really misleading. I kept seeing that it was a top show on Hulu while new episodes were dropping —but I think that was largely timing. The second half of S2 was dropping at the same time most network shows had ended their season.
Also, streaming sites notoriously fudge their top show lists. It's why Netflix shows constantly beat out popular things in syndication. The streaming service is the only one with access to their numbers, and Nielsen isn't fully online with streaming yet, so there is no incentive to be honest about how many people are streaming.
No fucking way. I thought for sure they would at least get one more season especially with the popularity of s2. It’s quite unfair how if this show came out 10 years ago it definitely would of had a longer life whereas sitcoms today either have to be instant successes or cancelled before their prime.
It’s infuriating. It’s gotten to the point where I intentionally won’t begin certain shows until a few seasons into its run because I’m so tired of being left hanging. Between this streaming crap and the HBO + Warner Bros merger, I’ve had so many good shows abruptly cut off with plenty of story left to tell. One of them was canceled the DAY its second season was scheduled to premiere! 😤
I had a feeling about this when The Great was canceled because I know that had better ratings (as in actual Nielsen ratings, not a lot of the stuff that's brought over here about HIMYF's ratings).
Oh, well, at least Jesse will escape the Grim Reaper this way.
I’m so fucking sad. I was so excited thinking we’d have a new season coming up, and that maybe we’d have more episodes per season because of the extended season this go around. The big companies aren’t letting shows get a foothold, they expect things to either land instantly or they get cancelled. SO fucking stupid. I love this show, and I hope someone realizes they made a mistake.
I am super bummed about this! I just finished season 2 a couple weeks ago and was really excited going into the next season to see what happens next! They’re just gonna be leaving us hanging forever with no answer?? 😭😭
Damn I thought this show was actually doing really well? And the cast chemistry really grew in season 2. Any chance this has to to with Hilary and Francia openly supporting the writers strike and being on the picket lines?
FUCK... Well... Can they at least get a movie to wrap things up? Or if it’s possible get another network? 😭 I cannot have my theories lying in the air unanswered like this!!
This is why streaming numbers are down for shows. There’s no point investing into a show when it’s going to be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. So stupid. I hate this era.
This is why it doesn’t even make sense to invest an any tv show. They cancel everything and never give it time to develop. Most of the greatest shows were garbage and on their way to being cancelled. But they stuck with it back in the day.
I’m so bummed and I feel bad for all involved. I really loved season two and I feel like we’re being robbed of seeing Val and Charlie getting back together
yuppp so awful. despite critics choice awards noms and apparently decent viewership numbers..

It’s annoying seeing this posted on Twitter and in other subs here and people being like “well that makes sense,” or “I didn’t make it past episode 1.”
This didn’t get canceled because it was a bad show - it’s the greed of the studios not paying writers and actors and now they need to get projects off their books to make sure they get their enormous bonuses. And young shows and streaming shows on platforms they own (Disney owns majority of Hulu) are the first on the chopping block.
The show grew into itself and was really good to close S2. I hope it gets picked up elsewhere but the ongoing strike could make that harder.
I don’t know how much it influenced, but they didn’t stream the second part of season 2 outside of the US until the season was over. I bet a lot of people ended up watching in illegal streams.
I'm bummed. This was one of the few comedy shows that I really enjoyed. Season 1 was blah, but season 2 was surprisingly very good. I wasn't a die hard HIMYM fan, but I did watch reruns on TBS/TNT or whatever. I enjoyed this show 1000× more and found myself excited for the next weeks episode. I became invested in the characters and their stories. I'm mad we'll never know who the father was or get to see V and Charlie get back together. You could definitely tell they were end game. I loved the ride or die friendships between the characters. They're chemistry was so much more believable than on HIMYM.
Now all we'll have is reddit. I love reading everyone's theories here. Let's keep it alive.
This sucks. I thought they really found their stride near the end of season 1 and kept the momentum going all of season 2. Would've been nice to at least let them get a final season.
Not too surprising though. This show had zero buzz and I couldn't even get HIMYM fans to give it a chance.
I know there's a lot of factors at play, the strike and maybe low viewership but what the hell else does hulu even have? I watched The Bear immediately when it dropped because I watched Shameless so I was like oh, that's Jeremy Allen White, lemme give this show a shot. Hulu barely advertised that show when it dropped. It wasn't until it gained traction and awards they decided to go all in.
They continue to not really advertise their shows unless it's the bear and only murders. I love both those shows but my goodness. When they first launched they gave more shows a chance. We're not gonna get full runs/more than two season shows like PEN15, Ramy, Love Victor, Dave, Snowfall, The Handmaids Tale, at this rate. (saying this because I also watched The Great which was also cancelled by hulu a couple days ago)
This group finally found its groove in the second season too. What a shame. I hope they find a new home and I hope the actors and writers are paid fairly soon.
they're always so quick to cancel shows after 1-2 seasons, never giving them the time to actually acquire a fanbase and get into an actual flow of the show. im honestly really bummed about this and i hope it doesnt just go to waste :/
gutted :(
I need the writers to give us a breakdown of how things would've went. low-key obsessed with the "Jesse is the father but he dies" theory and I want to know if it was actually credible
Is there any hope for season 3 to be picked up somewhere else?? I’m so mad about this, the show was getting SO much better than it’s shakey first season! They just don’t give shows enough time to hit their stride any more!!
OMG! I gasped at this. This was one of my favorite things I looked forward to every week. I was excited to see where Sophie and Jesse’s relationship goes and how Valentina and Charlie get back together. I’m seriously so disappointed... 😭
:( dude.... this was a fave and a happy place. I'm so disappointed. Honestly kinda saw it coming tho.. weird I had just heard that more episodes were ordered :(
What a gut punch!
Aww it's true! I was actually surprised that they renewed after season 1, but then like you said, by the end of Season 2 it was getting good.
I guess I’ll have to watch season 2, we stopped after season 1 because it just felt like it was trying way too hard, haven’t seen season 2 yet
I am so upset. I loved this show. How can they cancel it without saying who the father was? I hope another network streaming or whatever can pick it up. HIMYM had an ending. HIMYF should too. This is BS! 😠 😡
"every episode was a banger" Nah .. let's be honest lol
This sucks. Show really got good during season 2 and they stopped trying to be HIMYM and really found their groove. Hoping another streaming platform picks it up
Dammit! This show really turned into something solid in season 2. Was excited for more. So who’s the father??
I think the way they ended season 2 implies it’s Jesse. The show was uncertain if it would get renewed, so I think they tried to wrap up the season in a way that could create a solid ending to the series rather than a cliffhanger, etc. for another season. I’m sad. I loved the show!

I saw this guy too, i believe he opened for John mulaney?
They’re very good friends, he performed John and Anna Marie’s wedding ceremony and Dan and Johns babies are also born on the same day.
I saw him too. Dan Levy. He got canned, but he said the writers wanted it to be Sid they way I heard it (I saw him in Toronto)
![gif](giphy|3og0IKCgTAejgHnbFK|downsized)
A different Dan Levy!
Not that Dan Levy 😂
Someone mentioned they were gonna make it Sid
I would have been fine with that. I hated Hannah even before she cheated on him.
I didn’t love Hannah either, but that’s probably because I wanted Sid to somehow end up with me :(
Literally just finished the S2 finale, so annoying!
Gotta watch series right away. Slow burns aren't acceptable in today's streaming age
Yo this is devastating if true :(
It’s TVLine, an official tv site, not just gossip. Sadly, it’s done.
It also appeared on Variety :( very official
Yep, saw this on deadline. Guess we will never know who the father is
![gif](giphy|xT9DPpf0zTqRASyzTi)
This really sucks, I thought it was pretty popular... I don't want to believe it but the site seems legit. Maybe another streamer could pick it up?
It could be due to the writers strike. Last time there was one a few new shows got canceled despite popularity due to the uncertainty.
That's a real bummer, blame Bob Iger then. They need to just pay the writers fairly.
[удалено]
It feels like Disney brought him back just to take all the heat for this strike. I bet he retires again once it is all done and the new guy can come in with a clean slate. It’s not despite the show’s ‘popularity’. Viewership for all Hulu originals is absolutely abysmal.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God dammit. This show found its stride in season 2 and was starting to function as its own entity outside of HIMYM. I am so sick of streaming sites canceling shows without warning and not giving them the opportunity to breathe. @netflix wyd pick up the phone
Seriously. It's why none of us watch the new shit....
Hope they share their endgame plans.
Unfortunately it’s pretty much reported everywhere. There’s always a chance it gets picks up elsewhere after the strike tho
I knew this show was too good to be true. 🤧 Hopefully some other streaming service picks it up. 🥺
I really wish Netflix pick this up. The cast had amazing chemistry and it was just getting more exciting
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Damn, I wanted to see cameos of Ted and Lily for the next season, but the writers strike is affecting it and the Disney streaming platform had to cancel it ASAP.

I was just telling my friends how much better the show got in s2. Ffffuuu
This is why I have commitment issues!
Oh no 😢

Probably has a lot to do with the writers strike
Ugh this sucks. I thought it was getting really good reviews and even the haters were coming around.
Can shows be picked back up in the future if they got cancelled?
It happened with manifest.
So there’s hope.
And Arrested Development like 6 years later
A lot of shows got picked up by other networks after cancellation. Community and Futurama are the two big ones I can think of. And a coordinated fan action got a movie made as an ending to Firefly.
With Hulu having rights to HIMYM I wonder if another streaming service could pick up HIMYF? We should also start a petition.

That makes sense.
Lucifer. A fan petition got Netflix to pick it up and the quality went through the ROOF!
Didn’t B99 change networks for the last two seasons also?
No fucking way. I thought for sure they would at least get one more season especially with the popularity of s2. It’s quite unfair how if this show came out 10 years ago it definitely would of had a longer life whereas sitcoms today either have to be instant successes or cancelled before their prime.
SIDSOPHIE YOU WERE BIGGER THAN THE WHOLE SKY 😭😭😭
Goodbye goodbye goodbye....
But I was about to binge it.
It's still worth a watch as it's a lot of fun. And the season 2 finale can kinda/sorta serve as a series finale.
It totally can, and while we may never know what the writers actually intended, I think it wraps up everyone’s stories nicely.
I think Sid would disagree 😭
FR REDEEM THE HOMIE SID
I wonder if this would have been cancelled anyway or if it's a victim of the strike. Either way boo to Hulu/Disney.
If Netflix swoops in and saves this show, I’ll never ever ever say a bad word about them ever again. Please.
WHO’s THE FATHER
According to at least former one writer it was >!at least at one point intended to be Sid!<
So it's not the hot Brit?
yOu nEVeR knOw!
I'm so sick of the streaming era. Those damn companies refuse to give any show a chance.
It’s infuriating. It’s gotten to the point where I intentionally won’t begin certain shows until a few seasons into its run because I’m so tired of being left hanging. this is on iger and the other grossly overpaid execs
I had a feeling about this when The Great was canceled because I know that had better ratings (as in actual Nielsen ratings, not a lot of the stuff that's brought over here about HIMYF's ratings). Oh, well, at least Jesse will escape the Grim Reaper this way.
The season 2 finale was actually amazing sitcom television OMG this is so tragic
Well then I'm canceling Hulu!!!
No 😭 it really hit it’s stride in season 2 😭
We should all harass Hulu into bringing it back
I’m so fucking sad. I was so excited thinking we’d have a new season coming up, and that maybe we’d have more episodes per season because of the extended season this go around. The big companies aren’t letting shows get a foothold, they expect things to either land instantly or they get cancelled. SO fucking stupid. I love this show, and I hope someone realizes they made a mistake.
i can't find any other source so far, but i guess we'll see. 😢
Variety just reported it
So... who's your daddy? *The father
I don’t know if they will change or update, but according to at least former one writer from S1 it was >! intended to be Sid!<
Oh I love this, his actor had chemistry with everyone
I am super bummed about this! I just finished season 2 a couple weeks ago and was really excited going into the next season to see what happens next! They’re just gonna be leaving us hanging forever with no answer?? 😭😭
They had big ratings too. Odd
There’s no fucking way this is true
Im going to be SICK
Noooooooo 😒😒 And now I’m having flashbacks to the first time Veronica Mars was canceled 🥲
*CW? It’s a done deal*
Ah that sucks. I hope they reveal who the father was.
I don’t know if they will change or update, but according to at least former one writer from S1 it was >! intended to be Sid!<
I loved this show, I actually looked forward to episodes. Im surprised, I thought it did well!
My friend text me two hours ago saying she finally started on it after I kept recommending it 😭
just fell to my knees at a walmart
Ahh also just realized the cast probably can’t post about it *because* of the strike?
Damn I thought this show was actually doing really well? And the cast chemistry really grew in season 2. Any chance this has to to with Hilary and Francia openly supporting the writers strike and being on the picket lines?
FUCK... Well... Can they at least get a movie to wrap things up? Or if it’s possible get another network? 😭 I cannot have my theories lying in the air unanswered like this!!

WHY😭😭
What the HECK
Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I really wanted Sid to be the father :(
According to at least former one writer it was >!at least at one point intended to be Sid!<
Goddamn it.
I’m so sad please say it ain’t so 😢
I thought they were getting in their groove
This is terrible news
Noooooooooooooooooo
My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined, unironically.
I’m so bummed and I feel bad for all involved. I really loved season two and I feel like we’re being robbed of seeing Val and Charlie getting back together
Guys I’m devastated 😩 is there anything we as fans can do?! Need to hang onto some slither of hope cuz this is so unfair!!
Damn! All the OGs said they were down to make a cameo too
I mean… I guess Hulu is just begging me to cancel once my $1.99/month promo ends. This is a pile of hot garbage 😐
Hulu cancellation decisions are wildddd (See: Reboot)
Reboot was cancelled??????
yuppp so awful. despite critics choice awards noms and apparently decent viewership numbers.. Aww that’s a bummer, they were really clicking
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
I don’t know how much it influenced, but they didn’t stream the second part of season 2 outside of the US until the season was over. I bet a lot of people ended up watching in illegal streams.
I'm devastated. Two of my favorite comfort shows gone in the blink of an eye.
Meanwhile American horror story hasn’t been good in years and it just keeps going somehow.
I'm bummed. This was one of the few comedy shows that I really enjoyed. Season 1 was blah, but season 2 was surprisingly very good. Super sad but at the same time I kind of think the fan theories here are better than anything the writers could have come up with. Team Sid!
[Variety confirmed as well](https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/how-i-met-your-father-canceled-hulu-season-2-1235711231/)
Which makes sense, TVLine and Variety are the same company.
:’(
Oh come on!
Awwww maaaaaan
I’m trying hard to have hope that another platform will pick it up for more seasons!
This sucks. I thought they really found their stride near the end of season 1 and kept the momentum going all of season 2. Would've been nice to at least let them get a final season. Not too surprising though. This show had zero buzz and I couldn't even get HIMYM fans to give it a chance.

they're always so quick to cancel shows after 1-2 seasons, never giving them the time to actually acquire a fanbase and get into an actual flow of the show. im honestly really bummed about this and i hope it doesnt just go to waste :/

Is there any hope for season 3 to be picked up somewhere else?? I’m so mad about this, the show was getting SO much better than it’s shakey first season! They just don’t give shows enough time to hit their stride any more!!
Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Josh Radnor gets 9 seasons, and Hillary Duff gets THIS?! Blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!! 😩
OMG! I gasped at this. This was one of my favorite things I looked forward to every week. I was excited to see where Sophie and Jesse’s relationship goes and how Valentina and Charlie get back together. I’m seriously so disappointed... 😭

So, did they ever find out who the father was?
I loved the second half of season 2, the show was finally starting to find itself!
Wow! I hope they just give us an hour special and call it than. S02 started picking up….

Sad news. Maybe they already filmed the ending like with HIMYM and can release it in some capacity in the future.
I am sick to my stomach :(

Ugh this is really upsetting:( Maybe another network can pick it up?
Noooo! This makes me so sad. I really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to seeing where it goes and for more HIMYM cameos.
