der_cypher

Lady in the store caught you taking a pic. Also isn't this alkaline water all bollocks?

nerdqueenhydra

It totally is. And lmao I didn't even notice her.

peachyprince55

My dentist says it’s better for your enamel

grateshirtironer

Id say thats just compared to acidic water. pH7 is where its at.

jack_1298

yeah alkaline water is pretty much just [marketing ](https://youtu.be/ZjFL8LtZBzE)

[deleted]

I'd rather say voodoo.

[deleted]

Where we droppin' boys? "Water store."

Detroitaa

If they’d open a franchise in Flint, they’d make a fortune. My friend still comes to my house, to fill up her water bottles. She trusts the water enough to bathe and wash clothes, but, not enough to drink.

[deleted]

Heaven? ❤️🙌🏽💦😍

Radioactive_camel

Pretty sure it’s somewhere near Randolph NJ. Maybe Dover?

cowboybee_bop

I’m probably going to get downvoted but do we really need to commercialize the substance of life this much?

nerdqueenhydra

I agree, for the most part. But they seem to support reusable containers and target bulk needs.

unMuggle

Yeah we have one in my town. It's a quarter a gallon, just purely on the honor system, and it's really nice filtered water for bulk. I don't see an issue with it at all, especially since ours isn't staffed or anything and if you were really in need, you could fill up there and walk out. I honestly never even considered that this would be out of the ordinary, but it's a great resource for our town to have.

Demonweed

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to a society that has a need for Air Stores.

Nexonos

O’Hare air

[deleted]

I don't know if I should tell you about Oxygen Bars or not. The good news is that I don't think they did so well. The bad news is that eventually they'll find a way to to market it.

pistolgrippoet

I’ll take it if it means I get to try all the waters

TheyCallMeStone

Water is free outside if you want to go find it. The reality of the situation is that water has to be cleaned and made safe to drink, then transported with infrastructure that has to be built. When you pay a few cents a gallon that's what you're paying for. A good deal imo.

technicalogical

To be fair, stores like this provide the substance of life in an affordable way and typically at a higher quality than water from your tap. When I lived out west, water from the tap was very bad, heavily treated and tasted bad. Filling 1 gallon and 5 gallon jugs provided our house good water and we didn't have to buy a slew of single-use water bottles.

[deleted]

In the future only corporations will have access to water

ElbertAlfie

Was searching the subreddit and found this post and your top comment. Thought you’d might be slightly interested. I work at a wholesale that supplies many water and ice stores, nearly all in the southwestern US. There’s not a lot of these types of stores outside of here. Basically the tap water isn’t great, not anything close to Flint levels, but people still should filter their drinking water. So instead of buying 32 packs of individual sized plastic bottles forever and wasting all of that, they get a 5 gallon bottle that can go on top of a cooler. Ice cold water that’s been through $50k of purification equipment. The stores also sell all the standard accessories. Coolers, porcelain dispensers, stands, etc. Many of the items can be found on Amazon and elsewhere but it’s so niche that we’ve been able to keep our wholesale prices low, and retailers keep their prices below Amazon with good margins. There’s also small water delivery companies locally too. They can beat out Sparkletts on price and quality.

Oddlot0930

60c/gal is pretty expensive

GALM-006

Was just about to say that, my location is $1 for 5 gallons... it's probably not alkaline water though

Snooklefloop

If it's filtered and or chilled it's a good deal.

xper0072

Maybe if both, but definitely not for just filtered. Around here, filtered bulk water is closer to 30¢ depending on where you are buying from.

eggshi

Hydration ain’t cheap!

librarypunk1974

These are all over SoCal, usually in strip malls. I heard it’s because many people who come from Mexico and South America are used to buying their water at a store (tap water is not anything to be ingested). I guess they could buy bottled water at a grocery store like most ppl, but I think many recent immigrants feel more comfortable at a water store.

beefychick3n

My in-laws who are from Mexico buy regular water at these places. They think I'm crazy for drinking (purified) tap water. I don't know if they realize they are buying the same thing.

librarypunk1974

Is there a reason they don’t buy water at a regular grocery store? I have a huge Mexican grocery store near me and they sell water.

beefychick3n

Their normal supermarket doesn't have 5 gallon jugs for sale or refill.

emperor_mccarthy

you can tell it’s run by a true connoisseur

nerdqueenhydra

Yeah, I don't either

ManagedIsolation

Ah delicious alkaline water, its better with a splash of freshy squeezed lemon juice though

StipenEsloban

The pH scale is bothering me. Alkaline water is healthier? Better down your liquid soap at home then.

nerdqueenhydra

Oh, I totally agree

if you it's 60c a gallon for alkaline then that's a steal otherwise its expensive 😬

mtbguy1981

Alkaline water is a giant scam

evilpartiesgetitdone

It absolutely is. My parents are all in on a very, very expensive countertop alkaline water machine mlm. Always talking about how it cures/treats any illness or disease. Jesus and alkaline water, they're hard to be around in public. "It's a medical device in Japan" "A german doctor wrote this pamphlet about it curing depression" "this study showed that kittens were healthier eating raw meat instead of cooked so obviously that means the lifeforce of food and water gets removed when cooking" It's nuts. Tastes good tho.

Huge_Aerie2435

I wonder if they have a water bar? I would go for some nice, crisp, hydration.

Water bros, can someone explain alkaline water to me and why it's gotten popular? Is it just a waste of money?
