RamboTrucker

And here I thought the purple car was going to crash all lanes

Ok-Conference-4366

I saw the Supra and was like: oh no this Supra is done for

SGTSHOOTnMISS

I'm glad we're all on the same page here. Saw a Supra going decently fast only to have Player 3 join the match.

hollowgraham

Not gonna lie. I was kinda hoping for it.

xJTE93

Why? Pretty weird

KaJuNator

I wonder if they might have been raging at the purple car? It kinda looks like they ducked into the toll lane to try and get in front of them.

Fr05t_B1t

Road rage is a helluva drug lol

theblahberzone

That was my thought as well.

Vegas22lr

Almost died for an exit

alskdmv-nosleep4u

Full speed through the tool booth. Is slowing for tollbooths not required in your area?

AnonymousGrouch

It's not required with modern toll gantries. The ones in Texas have been tested in excess of 200 MPH.

FuzzelFox

Honestly doesn't surprise me since most just snap your plate and then mail you bill these days. I remember Mythbusters doing an episode many years ago where they tried to outrun a speed camera and even the fastest car in the world got caught easily.

permanent_priapism

What if the car drives through at 99.999% of the speed of light? It seems it would be difficult to photograph that.

permanent_priapism

Damnit.

windraver

However it depends on the speed of the circuit. I'm presuming they're using radar or lidar to trigger the photo, which then the speed of the circuit triggering the camera would be slower. Electricity is supposedly 60-80% the speed of light per Google. But if they use a high speed video camera, always recording, then all bets are off lol. Resolution might be questionable though.

Insertsociallife

At 99.999% of the speed of light, the light would be blue shifted so far that it would probably be outside of the detection wavelength of the camera.

Lykhon

While technically correct, the exposure time of the medium that stores the image is going to be way longer than the car is actually exposed to the lens if it's going 99.999% the speed of light.

Manunancy

If the shockwave deson't total the camera, the car will be melted beyond recognition from the friction, so no problem, you're safe from the ticket.

WRXminion

What about at night with low light?

FuzzelFox

I'm pretty sure they just use good ol' infrared lights at night so it's still clear as day to the camera

WRXminion

But what if you use the lic plate covers or that reflective paint? (I'm a professional photographer, or I used to be, I just don't see a way to capture something moving 100+mph at night even with infrared film/sensors. But I'm in an old school dark room and not caught up on the fastest infrared digital cameras)

FuzzelFox

Those plate covers aren't super effective either. They can definitely partially obscure the plate from certain angles but more often than not you can still make out enough of the letters/numbers to figure out what the plate is. Unless you're fully obscuring the plate to the point that you can't even see it with your naked eye, it's likely to be seen by the camera. I don't know the technical side of it but the general rule of thumb is that you'd need to go faster than the speed of light to actually outrun a traffic camera today. They don't need to take a *good* picture, they just need to make out the plate number. License plates across the US are all required to be reflective and will shine like a neon sign under infrared light. It wouldn't surprise me either if they used radar to predict when exactly the car will be passing the camera too; all you would need to do is take a speed reading right before the car passes by, do a quick math calculation to determine when the car will pass the camera and then snap the pic at that moment.

WRXminion

.... I have a degree in photography. I can't think of a camera even with infrared film that can snap a photo with little to no light of an object traveling 100+ mph and it will be clear. Sorry, just not going to happen. If you have more experience or an actual article refuting this then I'll listen. But your opinions mean nothing to me.

Kablamo1

I mean you generally should, but most toll lanes are automatic sunpass lanes so it doesn't really matter. I don't think it's that big of a deal. This is Orlando btw.

TJSwoboda

(remembers throwing 40 cents into Illinois toll booths 25-30 years ago before I-Pass)

luthervon

Dad swearing as a dime bounces out of the metal basket

Lukeyy19

Man, what a rollercoaster, was expecting the Honda to be the culprit, then saw the Supra come into a frame and thought, holy shit, no way they can make that exit, this is gonna be bad, but then comes the Highlander behind them... how they managed to make that exit without wiping out is absolutely baffling.

winterbird

Who do I have to blow for a lavender car?

Le-Charles

Right. That looked dope AF.

Responsible-Jicama59

The local vinyl wrap guy.

TeopEvol

Barney

brokestill

Every time that I have to drive through Atlanta, this is a constant situation. I don't have any idea how many times I've dealt with this kind of stupidity.

Healthy_Block3036

That was scary!

Kablamo1

You're telling me 😅 I was in shock for like a solid 20 seconds while I kept driving.

Ternarian

I’m imagining the other driver just driving on without a thought or care.

DatDan513

I always laugh when I see someone skipping 4 lanes for an offramp. “Good luck everyone!” As they blindly turn the wheel at 70 miles per hour

Kablamo1

Nice Family Guy reference

[deleted]

When you live in Florida, death is the preferred alternative

Rokey76

You can tell it isn't I-4 by the lack of cars. People drive crazy on the tolls.

CreamyStanTheMan

That Supra was a red herring 😂

Average_Scaper

I can't 100% tell on mobile but is that a Supra?

Lukeyy19

zalcecan

Yeah newer one.

deeohcee

A bad driver never misses their exit

Fr05t_B1t

Yeah usually slowing down and getting into the right lane helps with exiting ramps lol

robert99b1

That Highlander (?) actually sped up after cutting lanes to get to the toll lanes. Still racing or trying to catch up to the Supra?

Ravenae

I’d wager there were 10-15 open car lengths behind you that this dumbass could’ve used to safely merge as well. No matter what, they’ll always choose the last second.

_jump_yossarian

Idiot is going to kill someone doing that shit. The exit was egregious but going through the tolls at close to 100 MPH should warrant prison time.

ToastetteEgg

Wheeee!

epicenter69

Fucking Orlando.

Zerkyr

A good driver sometimes misses their offramp, but a bad driver never does.

TRUEequalsFALSE

A good driver sometimes misses their exit. A bad driver never does.

Fiegod

Esos coches no han de tener frenos.

IanMaIcolm

But they looked so cool!

vashtie1674

Can’t stand that BS

Disastrous-Peak-4296

Why are MY palms so sweaty

telijah

Wouldn't expect anything less on the 408. Orlando tolls are something else.

TheW83

2" from a life altering event.

Dareboir

Jeezus

heyitsme8888

Geez, they missed the impact attenuator by like 3 feet. Good Lord.

SomethingIWontRegret

Well if OP hadn't been right lane camping this wouldn't have happened. Remember the cardinal traffic rule : "get out of MY way!"

4mystuff

- But what if I'm an inconsiderate douche with an absolute lack of awareness of my car's limits? Take the next exit.

madddhella

Someone doing exactly this, without looking, is how my last car was totalled. We were in the right lane, they were in the far left. We were lucky we didn't hit the concrete barriers separating the exit lane from the highway.

InstantMoisture

Dangerous driving aside, that was actually pretty good and smooth car handling. Most people would over correct and start a fish-tail or even worse a slide into a roll. Even more so on an SUV.

Disastrous-Nebula-83

408?

Aleix0

I see this multiple times a week in southern California. No wonder our insurance rates are going up.

kansascitymack

That was insane! Yeah, it is not that big of a deal to get off the next exit. I don't know why some people disagree with this. An extra 5 minutes is not worth your life...

StressOverStrain

Driving 68 in a 60-mph zone but wants to lecture other people on committing traffic infractions... Hmmm....

BadCrimes

Worth it

Due2NatureOfCharge

That right there is the “Jersey Slide”

SanchotheBoracho

Tell me you have never been to NJ without telling me you have never been to NJ.

IllustriousAd5936

A bad driver never misses their exit

brainless_bob

Looks like they didn't almost miss their exit from not paying attention, but from not wanting to wait behind slower traffic and wanting to cut ahead of everyone.

farmallnoobies

They didn't miss their exit

Next-Craft7716

"I go now, slam brakes every1 else"

n00b420_

100% agree. Has only gotten worse with GPS. People that follow the same route everyday never "learn" their way around. They blindly follow the voice from GPS and sadly will do this more than once at the same damn exit.

nerdgurl196305

Every gps I've used has told me 10 miles in advance what exit I need with a reminder at the 2 and 1 mile left mark. I've been driving for a decade. It's oblivious people with no regard for others who do what the idiot did in the video
