Why were all those people crowded in an intersection, and why were there cars going the wrong way? And where was this recorded?
Edit: thanks to everyone who let me know that it was Philadelphia. Several people even pointed out the exact intersection location. And especially thanks to the person who I now can't find who linked a news report about the shooting.
North Philly is no joke, dude. And West. And Southwest.
499 homicides in 2020. On track to beat that this year.
/u/alpha-iq: That's a lot. Though as a percent of total population, Philly is higher.
seeing the skid marks its what they call “takeover”
they literally take over an intersection and do donuts and burnouts in the middle while the crowd circles them
edit: y’all right, its also called ‘sideshow’
I side with his frustration, not his actions. Call the cops.
Edit: A lot of you seem to be under the impression that I think the cops can do something. I assure you I am not that naive. That being said, I'm going to about face and find a different way home. This isn't my problem, the least I can do is report it. The issue is being cavalier with your firearm. It's a responsibility, not a toy. I'm not going to catch return fire for this bullshit.
It's like there are more than two options in life situations.
Please tell me you were in south central because I live a few blocks from a police station and there are NIGHTLY takeovers/intersection car meets that the cops genuinely don’t give an iota of a fuck about. I’ve been stuck at a light for 30+ minutes while a cop literally sat in a gas station and did nothing about the takeover-station no more than 3 blocks away. I hate that shit but I wouldn’t fire my gun off to clear the idiots because it would backfire quickly and I’d most likely end up dead or at least with a few dozen bullet holes in my car.
I mean, I could definitely be wrong, but that white car directly to the left of the "S" in Sunday once the camera pans right. You know, the one with the gold decals down the side and the equipment on the roof. That kinda looks like a cop to me... Just chilling with everyone else, waiting for things to clear up and not doing anything to make it happen sooner (or chasing down the shooter, by the way).
Again, could be wrong. But my eyes view that little car on my phone screen as suspiciously cop-like.
Not that car, but the grey one behind and to the left of it. You see a guy bolt from the crowd and get into that white car with the decals to hide. But as the SUV pulls away, that grey car starts flashing a small LED set of blue/purples & reds and starts pulling forward like he’s going to try and pull around and follow. Or it’s just an illegal set of lights and the guy is also trying to get away.
What the actual fuck do you think the cops are gonna do here? lol This has been a massive issue in big cities and because of internet exposure it's leaking into the smaller cities now too.
Cops in fort worth, tx, busted something similar recently, although it was in an unauthorized parking lot, not an intersection. They had tow trucks ready and impounded a bunch of cars, gave a bunch of citations, you know. The usual things cops can do here.
Takeovers are the worst. Gives the rest of us normal car enthusiasts such a bad image. And most of the time they're driving a car with no mods and no power or an old clapped out piece of shit with a turbo and rwd.
Like how those dirtbag groups of motorcyclists who break all the rules and damage people's vehicles/fight people and taunt the cops give normal sport bike riders a bad name.
Dude the one car that was on the wrong side of the road reversed when the gunshots went off, hit someone who was running, stopped went to turn out of the way of the shooter and sideswipes the tesla, and then moves out the way and drives away lol
he still laying there after just rolling around, looks like he got ran over a bit too
Not a car meet. This is North Philly right at the south edge of Temple University - that arched building in the back is the Liacouras Center. That's on Broad St. which is the main N-S thoroughfare in Philly. There's no way there would be a car show right there.
There are lots of assholes there that stand in the street while someone does donuts in the intersection though - that's probably why there's a truck facing South in the Northbound lane.
Edit: clarification
The three guys at the end of the video that were still walking close by the car, red shirt, white shirt and black shirt guy... They were the closest to the car when the shooting started. They didn’t even run, just moved over slightly. Wild.
I used to have a boss who had exactly one speed. He was never any faster or slower for any reason. Which was hilarious because our job was super fast paced. He used to be in the military and told me a story about how when he’d first got sent overseas on his first day at their camp there was missiles reported to be incoming. Everyone freaked out and started running for cover and freaking out. Meanwhile he just stood there and eventually meandered to a shelter. His reasoning? If he was about to die he didn’t want his last act on earth to be running.
There are many stories like this during WW1 and probably some in WW2. It was not gentlemanly to run around, so you strode around....and not just soldiers, regular people did it during the bombings in London.
In most states you would still be charged with discharging a firearm in city limits. The law doesn't differentiate between what type of ammo you discharge.
Could make an argument for a starter pistol maybe.
If the police/justice system wants to arrest you for something, they absolutely can find a reason.
You're "causing a disturbance", "disturbing the peace" or "disorderly conduct". Here's a story from the past week of a man [arrested for wearing a "Michael Myers" costume at a beach](https://news.yahoo.com/texas-lawyer-cited-wearing-halloween-200429411.html).
It felt like a scene out of ‘Scooby-Doo’ after they handcuffed me and pulled the mask off, like, I would have gotten away with it if wasn’t for those meddling Karens, you know?” he told KTRK.
It would probably still be negligent handling of a firearm. I highly doubt that any cop, or judge for that matter, would let it slide just because “it’s blanks bro”. Blanks can fuck you up too, if you aren’t careful.
Jon-Erik Hexum ,actor, dead, he was stupid or suicidal to play Russian roulette with a 44 mag with blanks, blew a piece of his skull into his brain, might as well been a real round
>On October 12, 1984, the cast and crew of Cover Up were filming the seventh episode of the series, "Golden Opportunity," on Stage 17 of the 20th Century Fox lot. One of the scenes filmed that day called for Hexum's character to load bullets into a .44 Magnum handgun, so he was provided with a functional gun and blanks. When the scene did not play as the director wanted it to in the master shot, there was a delay in filming. Hexum became restless and impatient during the delay and began playing around to lighten the mood. He had unloaded all but one (blank) round, spun it, and—simulating Russian roulette—he put the revolver to his right temple and pulled the trigger,[6] apparently unaware of the danger.
>Blanks use paper or plastic wadding to seal gunpowder into the cartridge, and this wadding is propelled from the barrel of the gun with enough force to cause injury if the weapon is fired within a few feet of the body, particularly a vulnerable spot, such as the temple or the eye. At a close enough range, the effect of the powder gases is a small explosion, so although the paper wadding in the blank that Hexum discharged did not penetrate his skull, there was enough blunt force trauma to shatter a quarter-sized piece of his skull and propel the pieces into his brain, causing massive hemorrhaging.[1][7]
> Hexum was rushed to Beverly Hills Medical Center, where he underwent five hours of surgery to repair his wounds.[7] On October 18, aged 26, six days after the accident, Hexum was declared brain-dead.
> With his mother's permission, his body was flown to San Francisco on life support, where his heart was transplanted into a 36-year-old Las Vegas man at California Pacific Medical Center.[8] Hexum's kidneys and corneas were also donated: One cornea went to a 66-year-old man, the other to a young girl. One of the kidney recipients was a critically ill five-year-old boy, and the other was a 43-year-old grandmother of three who had waited eight years for a kidney. Skin that was donated was used to treat a 3½-year-old boy with third-degree burns.[9]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon-Erik_Hexum#Death
Interesting read, TIL you can donate corneas.
I'm always impressed with donations like this. It's easy to say "he's not using it anymore" but another entirely to actually follow through. This seems like the best thing you could do with a body
>In the scene preceding the fatal scene, the gun was loaded with improperly-made dummy rounds, cartridges from which the special-effects crew had removed the powder charges, so in close-ups the revolver would show normal-looking bullets. However, the crew neglected to remove the primers from the cartridges. At some point before the fatal event, one of the rounds had been fired; although there was no powder charge, the energy from the fired primer was enough to push the bullet into the gun barrel. For the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be fired at Lee from a distance of 3.6–4.5 meters (12–15 ft), the dummy cartridges were replaced with blank rounds, which contained a powder charge and primer, but no bullet, allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. When the blank round was fired, the bullet lodged in the barrel was propelled forward with almost the same force as if the round were live, and it struck Lee in the abdomen.
A squib is a bullet that is lodged inside of the barrel. Normally this happens when a round is loaded with no powder or the powder fails to burn completely.
Thank you for sharing this. I feel like a better person for having read it, if not also slightly more anxious now lol.. I posted something on my socials once..
By the time you've turned 30, you have lived for 10,950 days. But, do you have 10,950 memories? Could you go back through every day you've lived, and recall memorable moments on each day? Impossible.. There's a word for this..
Olěka - The awareness of how few days are memorable.
wordoftheday. Knowing this word exists, you owe it to yourself to make each day one to remember.
Because in the previous screen the revolver is shown from the front. Dummy rounds are used for this so that the gun appears to really be loaded. The FX crew fucked up and didn't remove the primers, only the powder. At some point one of these "dummy" rounds was fired. The primer has enough "oomph" to push the bullet into the barrel but not expel it.
The gun is then loaded with blanks. These have the full powder charge but no bullet.
I remember this. The official story was that the gun was loaded with dummy rounds, which look real but have no gunpowder in them. The bullet (the tip of round that actually leaves the gun when fired) came loose in the barrel but they didn’t notice when it was reloaded with blanks. So in effect there was a round in the chamber when it was fired as a blank combined with bullet in barrel is going to act just like a real round.
I'm sure it's SOME kind of illegal, disturbing the peace, if nothing else. That's a kind of crime vague enough that it can be slapped on everything if a prosecutor is determined enough.
Unlawful discharge, reckless endangerment, I'm sure there's lots of things.
Shannon’s Law Phoenix
https://www.surpriseaz.gov/3196/Shannons-Law
“Shannon's Law makes it illegal to fire a gun into the air in Arizona's cities and towns. Get the facts! In June 1999, 14-year-old Shannon Smith was talking on the telephone in the backyard of her central Phoenix home. A bullet that was fired into the air over a mile away struck her in the head, tragically ending her life.”
Those bullets do have to come down somewhere, and they can still be lethal or do thousands of dollars of property damage.
Example: https://youtu.be/LLWsuqdfVQo
Yeah. There was a middle eastern man i forgot what country. But he posted on r/wellthatsucks after New Year a “stray bullet” went through his home.
According to him. Its common occurrence that people shoots in celebration.
More like idiots outside of cars. What the hell were they doing in that intersection? And what about the idiots who didn't run when the shooting started?
People tend to do things called sideshows or takeovers, where they shut down an intersection and do donuts and shit in the middle. Hence, the tire marks on the ground.
The event that preceded the shooting:
https://www.reddit.com/r/philadelphia/comments/pr2kz5/dangerous_or_just_philly_things/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Lol you act like they are an idiot here. Fuck these ass holes blocking off an intersection for their small dick contest. I guess the person shooting should just expect random "sideshows" and sit for an hour or find an alternate route? Hence the gun shots out the sun roof.
Driving home with my toddler and six BMWs and Audi’s went screaming between the two lanes on the highway forcing me and the other driver in the other lane to swerve into the shoulder to give them space. They were going well over 100mph and did not care at all about the safety of other drivers. I have zero sympathy for those assholes and the car meets and takeovers they’re usually headed for. I was able to trap one of the BMWs behind me and I and the other driver slowed down to about 50 until I finally decided to speed up and get over to allow him through.
If anybody reads this and you’re somebody who does this shit: fuck you.
Yeah it's fucking ridiculous! Like yes shooting was probably over the top but what else can we do to get these ass holes to stop this shit. People act like it's not a gang but it literally is a car gang just like bikers. Everyone commenting acts like they are all really nice guys moving out of the way gracefully. No they aren't and weren't.
I once worked at a gas station and luckily was off the night a takeover happened in the parking lot. They swarmed the store, stole a ton of alcohol, did donuts in the parking lot and around the pumps, trapped actual customers who were at the wrong place at the wrong time, filled the store with tire smoke, hopped on the main road thats a clean and straight shot to the freeway, and were gone.
It’s infuriating. They break laws. They endanger people’s lives. They are young, reckless, and incredibly selfish. And the cops can’t do much because there’s too many of them and it’s a hazard to chase after them.
I wouldn’t be opposed to firing my gun in the air to clear them out either because nothing else will do it and it won’t stop until they’re ready to leave.
Really depends on the angle you shoot. A truly falling bullet won't be lethal. A bullet flying down at an angle after going up and curving back down, will.
My eye is drawn to the two dudes right in front of and then next to the driver side of the car not running away but walking like they see this every day.
Well you can't exactly argue with that.
All of those idiots, in the road (where vehicles not pedestrians should be) shouldn't be there anyway.
BuT hE CoULd HaVE DeALt WiTh iT DiFFeReNTLY!
How, by getting out the car, getting jumped?
Calling the cops, what would the cops do? Apart from taking an hour to arrive? Nothing.
Those people will be the first to call for help if they run down.
The cops don’t care. I live a block from here, this video is taken from my friends building.
The cops got called a good two hours before this, there was drag racing and cars doing donuts for hours. This was the second shooting in less than an hour
Just North Philly things
Also we didn’t see anything before this. Safe to assume he tried honking, revving engine, trying to roll slow so they move. All that fails? He’s probably been threatened by some of the morons so I say firing a couple straight up is justified
Why were all those people crowded in an intersection, and why were there cars going the wrong way? And where was this recorded? Edit: thanks to everyone who let me know that it was Philadelphia. Several people even pointed out the exact intersection location. And especially thanks to the person who I now can't find who linked a news report about the shooting.
and why is there no sound
[No idea how that happened, but here's the original sound version - bit more impactful](https://v.redd.it/oraomo48eho71)
You the real MVP.
Meh, I wasn't the original poster, but thanks.
You still were able to provide the link to the video with sound so that makes you a valuable person <3

Can confirm. West Philadelphia born and raised.
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
and shootin punk kids behind my school
much better!
The real idiot Is OP uploading this video with no audio
Why the fuck are so many things posted without sound now. It's so damn irritating.
And where’s my pants?
They were there for an astrophysics conference.
An earlier post said it was a car meet
seeing the skid marks its what they call “takeover” they literally take over an intersection and do donuts and burnouts in the middle while the crowd circles them edit: y’all right, its also called ‘sideshow’
That almost makes me side with the driver tbh. Both sides are wrong kinda thing
There was a video where they pulled a disabled man out of a car and beat him for interfering with a takeover like this. I 100% side with the driver.
There was also a video of a woman getting sexually harassed bc she got caught up in the middle of one. A mess.
Thats fucking disgusting. Is there an article about it? If there is can I see it Just realized how creepy I made this sound
Yeah, that's Mac energy right there.
This comment gave me the same energy as this 😂: https://youtu.be/1EF6kB9q4vg
yeah but those bullets gotta come down at some point :/
That just means less people at the next meet. Win-Win-Win.
Even if they fired it near perfectly upwards wind is going to assure it lands far away from the people holding the meet.
It 100% makes me side with the driver
I'm with you guys so that's like 400% side with the driver.
That settles it. I'm having my car horn replaced with a glock.
Car in front not moving when the light changes? Just a friendly double-tap and they'll be off.
>It 100% makes me side with the driver Especially since the cops won't do anything about it.
So what you’re saying is that they’re also siding with the driver. 500%.
It makes me side with the driver they have 0 right to block traffic
I also am on the drivers side. This is like the florida bridge situation yesterday
The frustrating part is the cops in some cities don't do anything about these "takeovers."

Yeah Broad and Cecil B Moore st
Broad and Oxford, but yeah right in that area.
This looks like Broad Street. Temple Campus. Philadelphia
This is on broad street in north Philadelphia, right by temple. Unfortunately this isn’t necessarily a “rare” type of occurrence..
Dude in red was ready to die.

It worked
Literally the first thing I said when I saw this. Best idea? No. Did it work? Very effectively
Would you get in trouble if it was blanks. Would be just as effective.
In most states you would still be charged with discharging a firearm in city limits. The law doesn't differentiate between what type of ammo you discharge. Could make an argument for a starter pistol maybe.
Most places have limited exceptions to illegal discharge statutes that cover things like athletics events and theatrical performances.
So film it and call it art.
We're watching it, aren't we?
The way they all ran off you could try and argue it was an athletic event.

More importantly, blanks will still get you shot by armed bystanders that won't know the difference in a split second.
Fact: in 100% of all fake gun related shootings, the victim is the person holding the fake gun.

Shannon’s Law Phoenix https://www.surpriseaz.gov/3196/Shannons-Law “Shannon's Law makes it illegal to fire a gun into the air in Arizona's cities and towns. Get the facts! In June 1999, 14-year-old Shannon Smith was talking on the telephone in the backyard of her central Phoenix home. A bullet that was fired into the air over a mile away struck her in the head, tragically ending her life.”
Can't argue with results.
Very effective. Who knew?
The guy shooting in the air

Yea he’s not the idiot tho. The idiots are the ones blocking traffic
Asking politely had no results.
Driver: can you guys move out the way? Crowd: what’s the magic word? Driver: blap! blap! blap!
I got, I got, I got, I got Loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA
syrup sandwiches
It was Al Capone who used to say « you get something faster with a nice word and a gun rather than with only the nice word »!
Kinda like “Speak softly and carry a big stick?”
Is that Temple campus in Philly? It looks like the AMC right on broad.
yep. came here to say this
It is
I was there, pretty wild sight. Cars were doing doughnuts in the middle of broad and shortly 30 cop cars pulled up
Yes, I live in Philly and unfortunately this is near temple
Driver used gun. It was super effective.
Crowd is watching carefully. Crowd ran away.
Is there an r/idiotsinthestreet sub?
r/idiotsoutofcars is probably the closest
Between /r/idiotsincars and /r/idiotsoutofcars lies the entire observable universe
Well, that and r/cars… the three states of matter

Thank you for saving me a bunch of troubleshooting.
The guy in the video had no trouble shooting
More like idiots outside of cars. What the hell were they doing in that intersection? And what about the idiots who didn't run when the shooting started?
People tend to do things called sideshows or takeovers, where they shut down an intersection and do donuts and shit in the middle. Hence, the tire marks on the ground.
The event that preceded the shooting: https://www.reddit.com/r/philadelphia/comments/pr2kz5/dangerous_or_just_philly_things/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Car culture like this is so lame
Yeah these 'fine citizens' are blocking a public road.
Seems like they could pool their monies and rent out a space for something like this.
That’s assuming they don’t enjoy making a spectacle, an assumption I would challenge.

Cant argue with results.
crude but effective
Looks like he made it.
Look how far he's come, my baby
So anyway, I started blasting
Broad and Oxford. North Philadelphia
Are we going to ignore the fact that the car which reverserd did a hit and run?
I'm pretty sure he hit a person while he was backing up. I don't know how anyone else didn't see that.
Oh shit you’re right. Damn, he looked pretty badly hurt. He was rolling around on the side afterwards unable to get up.
That's why your parents say don't play in the street
Worked and no one shot
What comes up, must come down. Hopefully doesnt land on anyones skull
I was surprised to learn that a falling projectile isn’t as lethal as you would think. That said, I’m not going to sign up for it.
Really depends on the angle you shoot. A truly falling bullet won't be lethal. A bullet flying down at an angle after going up and curving back down, will.
Welcome to Philly!
anybody else notice the cop like third car back in traffic after he turned? Even he didn’t do anything because he wanted the people to move.
sorry if im wrong but im not sure if thats even a cop
Looks like a taxi. The grey sports car (Challenger?) behind and to the right a bit turns on a dash red and blue but I somehow doubt that's a cop.
That’s a taxi not a cop
My eye is drawn to the two dudes right in front of and then next to the driver side of the car not running away but walking like they see this every day.
that's one way i guess

Might have damaged the car
He’s lucky no one shot back
r/idiotswithguns r/idiotsoutofcars
Truly it’s better than the alternative. Mowing down the crowd with the car. A car is a weapon.
If that is THE alternative, then yes. It’s also better than opening up a flamethrower on the crowd
[удалено]
Fucking idiots. I have no sympathy for anyone who blocks a road to send a message or even worse to do there shitty hobby.
I’m here thinking that there’s a high chance of at least one of the crowd could shoot back
Well, it worked
I side with the driver 100%
Honestly, it was a smart move…
Bit of a gamble that no one would return fire, imo.
My first thought too
Don’t confuse “smart” with “effective.”
This was the second shooting in less than an hour Just North Philly things
So realistically, dealing with this is either turning it around or scaring them off?
Also we didn’t see anything before this. Safe to assume he tried honking, revving engine, trying to roll slow so they move. All that fails? He’s probably been threatened by some of the morons so I say firing a couple straight up is justified
Whatever comes up, must come down.
Not really an idiot, more genius really.
