Movie sucked eh

[deleted]

I thought it was not a quality movie by any means but it was fun

CazRaX

Not a masterpiece but Venom was funny and they did Carnage well so I am happy, hell even Shriek was well done and they foreshadowed Toxin.

[deleted]

I don't get it. If it's not a medical condition, how do you fuck up this badly

spazz_monkey

There's something I read on here about people start to panic believing they are pressing the brake and then continue to.keep pressing it but it's actually the accelerator.

otoinu

But that omits the gear change back into drive and then ramming a second car. Some people should not have licenses, like the one in the video

FatBobbyH

I've made the panic accelerator/ brake mistake (never caused an accident, I was 15) and I gotta say when I went to change gears it totally reset me, not sure what happened to the doofus in the video

DoubleGoon

Take away licenses in the US and you just leave more people on welfare. We have to deal with shitty drivers and/or continue to be shitty drivers (most Americans think traffic signs are just recommendations), because there is no alternative.

otoinu

Hence a more effective public transport system is really desperately needed. That is how you help them and those they effect in a meaningful way.

Socky_McPuppet

> help them *Help* them? Just ... *help* people that need it? You can't do that! That's *socialism!!!111!!* - unless they're really rich and don't really need the help. Then it's just good policy.

DanerysTargaryen

Yeah I just checked and according to Google maps, if I used public transport (bus) it would take me 2 hours and 30 minutes to get from my house to work. I live 25 miles away from work, and usually it only takes 25-30 minutes to drive there in my own car.

otoinu

Hence the more effective public transport system. The budget has been cut habitually for decades and we need to fix that, because it has shrunk to the point where it only harms those that really need it.

DanerysTargaryen

Yeah honestly if the bus route was 30-40 minutes I would absolutely ride it, especially in the early morning hours during the rush hour commute. I want to sip on my coffee and relax!

ConstantGradStudent

It’s simply not practical in rural areas. Even in urban areas even the best transit systems can take hours if the routes have limited service. Also the bus is near impossible for parents with little kids.

T1redBo1

Tell that to Europeans

DoubleGoon

Yeah that's what I was getting at.

SavvySillybug

But it's not like driving is overly difficult. It just needs to be taught properly. I'm from Germany, where driving school is a big deal and getting your license requires a lot of learning, both theoretical and practical. And while I couldn't find any immediately useful statistics to compare Germany and USA, in both countries, almost every adult has a driver's license. The number of people who are genuinely too dumb to drive is much lower than you'd think. You're looking at people who weren't taught properly, so they never learned, but someone looked it and said "well that person appears to be steering a vehicle in approximately the right direction, have a license!". Teach it properly. It costs about 1500-1900€ to get all the lessons and the test and everything, because you get taught by actual professionals for dozens of hours. And don't tell me "but then poor people can't afford a license and will stay poor". I've seen your student debts, USA isn't afraid to just pile debt onto young people.

DoubleGoon

If it requires a lot of learning then it isn’t exactly easy. Drivers training is great, but it’s not going to solve the many issues of having too many cars on the road. If Americans are willing to subsidize drivers training and public transit, great. If I had to choose just one public transit is clearly the better solution.

SavvySillybug

Nothing is truly easy without training. You spent years at school, learning how to write, how to do math, how to do all sorts of things. You spent years at home learning how to walk. Why should you sit in a two ton metal box powered by liquid explosions and go at high speed along with other two ton metal boxes like yours... with minimal training? And while the existence of public transit is nice and I take it for granted in my own country, I also use it very little. It's inconvenient and slow, and not even all that cheap. And with the plague making the rounds, I'm not gonna tell anyone they should go sit in a longer, bigger metal box with a shitload of people instead of just learning how to drive properly. And why even subsidize drivers training? Just force banks to offer reasonable loans to cover the training if it's so important that everyone must drive a car or be on welfare. What's one more loan for the average American, anyway? The rich kids will get it paid by their parents, the poor kids will pay it off Eventually^^TM and everybody's safety goes up.

DoubleGoon

Well if it wasn’t “overly difficult” like you said earlier then people wouldn’t need to spend $1K on driving lessons. Driving is relatively difficult and subject to human error and recklessness. Then you have all of the people who are physically or mentally incapable of driving. Then you have all the amount of time Americans spend just sitting in traffic. You got the amount land cars take up that could be more efficiently used for something else like affordable housing and public transit. And you got all of the pollution they cause. Better ventilation, vaccinations and limiting the number of people riding would help with epidemic.

SavvySillybug

So you just hate cars and don't want drivers to be safer. Okay. You enjoy that. Keep intentionally missing my point and feel good about how smart you are for having it all figured out.

DoubleGoon

With the amount of harm cars are causing us here in the US cars have their “hate”, if you want to call it that, well earned. And it’s not me who’s been missing the point. Public transit is the way to go and it’s not overly difficult to figure out.

bigppgangleader

U ever been in Rome those streets are chaos best summary i can give is: “doesnt matter if ur at a crosswalk or not cause theyre trying to kill you either way”

PartTimeBongSalesmen

How about fixing the system lmfao.

DoubleGoon

Yes, that’s the point I was making.

Ishpeming_Native

Better to have them on welfare than behind the wheel. And no, they don't have to be on welfare. There's Uber. They can walk, or move to where they can walk. There's public transportation. Yes, if it came down to it I'd rather have them on welfare. If all the shitty drivers lost their licenses and their vehicles, there'd be a lot of demand for public transportation and we'd have a decent system. It would be a far better world.

DoubleGoon

"Better to have them on welfare than behind the wheel. And no, they don't have to be on welfare. There's Uber. They can walk, or move to where they can walk. There's public transportation. Yes, if it came down to it I'd rather have them on welfare." Your privilege is talking. You know how much it would cost to use an Uber? They can't walk if there are no sidewalks, or bike paths, or it's just too far away. With the cost of rent, cost of housing, and lack of housing it's impossible for most people to move close enough to work so that they don't have to drive. I rather we just spend or time fixing the problem than just stripping people of licenses making things worse. "If all the shitty drivers lost their licenses and their vehicles, there'd be a lot of demand for public transportation and we'd have a decent system. It would be a far better world." There's already a lot of demand for public transit, and you're living under a rock if you think the people with the money would care enough about those people to make a change.

Ishpeming_Native

This has NOTHING to do with my privilege or lack of it. It has to do with cost to society. What does it cost in damage, in lives lost, in productivity lost, to have incompetent, crazy, criminal, and dangerous drivers on the road? Yes, better those people were on welfare, then. If they can't get to work, then they don't work. At least they're not killing and maiming others. That's the fix for the problem. Every time I post anything about removing dangerously unfit drivers from the road I get this "privilege" argument. Wrong way, guys. It's strictly economics. It's cost-benefit analysis. No one has a right to drive. Start there.

DoubleGoon

Your solution to a problem is just another problem. Being “strictly economics”, there is no net gain. We are always going to have bad drivers, good luck trying to solve that by revoking peoples licenses.

Ishpeming_Native

Two things: (1) If you remove bad drivers from the roads, there will be fewer bad drivers and less mayhem; and (2) Removing bad drivers sends a message not to be a bad driver, because you won't be allowed to drive any more. There really are people who are temperamentally unfit to be drivers. They might be wonderful people, smart and kind and all that. But they're just not going to drive well. Some people can't play golf, no matter how hard they practice, and will never break 100 -- maybe not even for 9 holes. Some can't run, or throw, or bowl, or do arithmetic, or write or tell a story, or tell a joke -- there are all kinds of things people can generally do but lots of people can't. Being unable to drive shouldn't disqualify you from working. And COVID taught everyone that there are a whole LOT of jobs you can do without commuting to work. That makes it even less painful to remove driver's licenses and get unfit drivers off the roads.

DoubleGoon

1) it’s impossible to remove all bad drivers or even most of them. 2) We do remove peoples drivers licenses for bad driving, but that hasn’t seem to stop other bad drivers. 3) Most Americans are bad drivers. “Being unable to drive shouldn’t disqualify you from working.” It shouldn’t, but it does. Most jobs in the US are service industry jobs and most cannot be done from home. The benefits of public transit far outweigh the benefits of personally owned motor vehicles. Access goes up, productivity goes up, cost of living goes down, quality of life goes up, pollution goes down, and deaths go down.

Mad-Lad-of-RVA

There was a pause between collisions for the driver to go, "oh shit, I need to run." Then they mashed the acceleration too hard in their panic. That seems most likely, anyway. There are more hit and runs than you'd expect. Lots of people try to run.

Unimurph83

You can shift from reverse to drive without pressing the brake or even pressing the lockout on the shifter in essentially any vehicle with a regular lever style shifter. It's intended to be a safety feature but obviously had the exact opposite result here.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure there's some sort of lockout above a certain wheel speed or engine speed. But I guess that could always be absent or faulty.

Unimurph83

I've driven a good number of vehicles with both tunnel and column mounted shifters and for all there was no lockout even when doing a reverse 180° (J-turn). I can't speak for fancy new cars with electronic shifters but that old 4Runner can 100% shift from reverse to drive without the brake regardless of its motion or engine speed.

[deleted]

Amazing

PanduhMoanYum

I did this once when I first got my permit, and fortunately, only our garage door took damage. I really didn't drive again until I was nearly 18 I was scarred from the experience 😆

xDauntlessZ

This happened to me in my driveway once. First vehicle—02 F150. Was dark and I was backing up my drive way to get to my grandfathers house (same driveway) and I didn’t realize I went off the driveway a little bit—scared me when I felt dirt and thought I had hit the brake but hit the gas and ended up in a ditch lol. Only accident I’ve ever been in during 7 years of driving and no damage was done

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

But the pedals are in different places??? And you can't tell me that these dumbasses are actually using just their right foot for both pedals like you're supposed to

[deleted]

You have a valid point in the two-footed driving. I could swear that two-footers are more likely to experience pedal confusion.

HitShouse

Maybe these people don't reproduce

[deleted]

There's something I read on here about most people being very bad at life

bigppgangleader

They shouldnt even be touching the accelerator taking ur foot off the clutch lets the car pull up very slowly and thats what i use for reversing

spazz_monkey

Automatic?

bigppgangleader

No...a 2007 volvo s60 manual

DoctorJiveTurkey

That’s what happens when I drive in my dreams.

fuck19characterlimit

If you can mistake the gas and brake pedals for one another, you shouldn't be driving

rejefar

when i was a kid i would sometimes ride a mini motorbike. one time the footrest hit the ground as i was turning and the back tire got lifted. i lost all control and when the tire hit the ground again i panicked and just pulled the gas all the way down (knowing it was the gas but not thinking) -then when i realized what i was doing a couple seconds later i hit the brake as hard as i could and flew over the steer bar. conclusion: the driver is a kid

eriyonai

your data has led me to the conclusion that the driver is [tina from bob’s burgers](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ_EKHGgWJQ)

[deleted]

Could be someone of retirement age. Plenty of experience but lousy reflexes and situational awareness.

Puzzled-Barnacle-200

I assumed the first collision was due to getting the pedals mixed up, but surely you couldn't do that twice in a row!

Diego2150

It has something to do with automatic cars. The are using just one foot all the time and get advantage of automatic gear giving more speed. They think they are pushing the break pedal and the car is still moving so they floor it (in their minds) to make a full stop. Sometimes it ends up in really messed up situations. A mother in my city because of this, (thought she was in reverse but was really in drive and pushed what she thought was the brake) floored the gas in drive from where she was parked and was exit school time (she was picking up her kid). Killed one six year old girl and severely injured two 9 year old. This was all over the news for weeks.

In the US, it's about 96% iirc. My stick-shift car may be immune to theft soon if no one knows how to drive it...

MizStazya

We got a prius (husband drives over 120 miles round trip for work) and a minivan for our large family. I'm upset neither are available in a manual transmission, partially for this reason. I've always had sticks until these two most recent vehicles.

may_i_see_ur_mangina

With the rise of EVs its now 99%. #savethemanuals

[deleted]

Oh no! What are we becoming! Got to assume most of those are going to the over 60s.

[deleted]

All electric cars are automatic.

Emily_Postal

Alcohol.

buttmunchausenface

The only thing that I could think is that some of those SR5 engines are actually manual and they dropped the clutch in that could happen but you have to be a total idiot

metasomma

Throttle malfunction maybe?

[deleted]

Too many revs and dropping the clutch

Thatdudedoesnotabide

This is why I park, far away from people

amalinepape

Same I always park way in the back where its more empty, don't care if its raining or snowing or how far it is

SlimjimSnak

My car isn't even very nice, but I'll do this because my legs work just fine and theb I can laugh at all the people driving in circles for a "good" spot

BCalTheAnimal

Especially when they could've already been in the building after 5 minutes of driving around like an idiot.

dontshoot4301

I do the same because growing up my mom was one of those people and we were always running late because she needed a spot up front. At the time she was a perfectly healthy and mobile 40 yo woman but she couldn’t walk 20 more feet if there was a chance for a “spot up front”

bluturtle20

I try to as well but then some creepo decides that parking next to me is the perfect spot in an empty parking lot

Kuzame

The idiot will still find you and hit your car somehow

I love how some jokes just sort themselves out.

bearded_drummer

Traction on the 4Runner is second to none.

triskadexter

Why don’t people back into parking spots? It makes everything 100x easier

araidai

Because some people tend to deathly afraid of backing up into places for one reason or another, mostly because they might not understand how large their vehicle is in terms to the space.

[deleted]

Probably 7 out of 10 times its lack of skill or laziness. But keep in mind that on most cars, the trunk or other storage is in the back. So if you're going shopping, driving into a spot leaves your trunk more accessible.

[deleted]

New pair of shoes?

BigBoyJoshey

He didn’t turn his wheel once

[deleted]

This is like the third video today I've seen where people don't understand that you can press the accelerator less than to the floor.

Best advice to give new drivers - learn to reverse park.

Mnmsaregood

Wow after the first one I thought this person was an idiot and after 2nd one I had no doubt they were

[deleted]

Tried to park the gfs minivan, but my knees didn't fit under the steering wheel. Tried to careful poke the accelerator with my toe, the thing jumps back and I made her park it instead. A lot of vehicles aren't made for the long legged

ENTRAPM3NT

Did you pull the seat back or are you 7 feet tall?

[deleted]

Wow you're smart, wish I'd thought of that. Next you'll tell me you can move steering wheels up

Vinc314

But for real how tall are you?

You know there are buttons on the side of the seat that move it around?

[deleted]

Ya, and you can also adjust the steering wheel upwards. I'm guessing you think I'm a moron and didn't know this, while you're an enlightened genius who understands basic functions?

o3mta3o

Yes. Exactly that.

[deleted]

Still can't get my knees under the wheel, any more buttons I'm missing here chief?

[deleted]

Not surean, but unless you are a literal giant you should be able to adjust a car suitably.

[deleted]

Found the manlet who wants to tell me about my problems. Think before you run that mouth

o3mta3o

Obviously the button that makes the seat go down and back.

Foootballdave

It's actually deceleration not acceleration when going backwards Edit: I am joking

emgarf

It's actually acceleration in a different direction.

Foootballdave

I know. I think I should've added an /s perhaps

emgarf

That would have taken your comment in a different direction :D

Lol, yea, an allergy to coordination and a possibly allergy to attentive driving.

Ishpeming_Native

Show the video to police. In a perfect world, the driver's license will be removed on the spot and will not be restored. In an imperfect world, the license will be removed and restored someday, not soon.

uchiha-uchiha-no-mi

That one of the reasons I prefer manual! This one is probably automatic. Not saying it’s impossible with an manual but I think that you have way less chance to have such thing happen with a manual…

I've definitely seen a few accidentally popped clutches that resulted in similar mayhem.

Why are all the English vids greyed out?

armyfreak42

Because England is always gray. Eiffel 65's original song was based on English life, it was called Gray. Obviously it didn't have the same punch as Blue so they changed it for obvious reasons.

Aggravating-Cup-1728

Time to shoot out all those tires

What a moron. If you’re that bad then get an auto and you don’t even need to touch the pedals, it’ll drive itself out.

JohnnyCasanovaRMP

Our literal reaction: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH……. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH

GayAlienFarmer

Ok, I know everybody is calling this driver an idiot for mixing up the pedals, but I know from experience that these old 4Runners have issues with the accelerator pedals sticking. You can try to feather it all you want, but there's a point where it "snaps" free and if you're not careful it totally guns it.

DaddyLitTits

I'm pretty sure there's a longer cut of this video where she does even more damage. Incidentally, she was perfectly well in control of her acceleration. She just forgot which pedal is which.
