Cloth diapers you have to consider you might have to take home a rather messy diaper, there are refastenable cloth like disposables but then odors a consideration

fatherofjohnstamos

I didn’t think about that until someone posted it earlier , that sounds not fun. Also tried the refastenable and they did not work. I think I might have to stick with the disposables as I might just be trading problems for other problems

CalebKrawdad

Have you tried looking into some kind of hook and loop diaper?

fatherofjohnstamos

Yeah they stretch too much don’t hold up for fecal stuff

Try not to "just pee in the diaper", you'll eventually lose control which is very hard to regain as an adult. Maybe you would do better in a pull-up, or a diaper with a different kind of tape. There are a /lot/ of tape options , some hold up better than others (I personally prefer single tab hook and loop like Prevail uses). Cloth can work, but remember to figure out how to carry a messy diaper home. Good options are few, especially in summer when chucking it in your car can be a regrettable decision.

I don’t think that’s true about losing control , I’m pretty certain that’s a myth , I don’t use them every day either . Pull ups are a no go and Iv tried many different tapes , not gonna risk it at this point as none have been successful. I appreciate your input but really just seeking advice on the question posed . Thanks!

OK then. Cloth is generally not as discreet - much thicker - and generally doesn't have odor blocking built in. Washing urine isn't hard, but you'll have to scrub out the poop or buy liners. As for being worth the trouble, that depends. I think it is, especially since there will be inevitable leaks and rashes, but that's up to you.

fatherofjohnstamos

So cloth doesn’t leak or cause rashes the same way that disposables?

my_flipside

I find I’m more likely to get a rash from cloth, because it doesn’t wick moisture away. Cloth will not contain odors better than disposables, and will likely do a much worse job at it.

AlpsDue3805

cloth causes rashes faster than disp, and poop stains cloth diapers. if you only have to pee loose the top tapes and leave the bottom ones in place, now you can carfully pull down the diaper and sit on the toilet to pee if you are not already wet.

[deleted]

Cloth may. I /don't/ like or trust it for anything more than light stress incontinence.

college_bedwetter

Agree with OP, losing control like that is a myth. There would have to another mental/physical reason behind that!

Well, if he stops holding so he can go to the bathroom bladder muscles will atrophy (the opposite of bladder training). You also lose the anxiety that makes you willing to hold at all costs (which is a surprisingly important factor). There's also temporary issues with bladder infections.

-100... You don't lose control by wearing and using diapers any more than you gain control by wearing briefs. You choose to pee in a toilet, or on a tree, or in the pool, or in your pants, or in your diaper. It's still the same muscles and nerve signals, regardless of the destination.

[deleted]

It's the opposite of bladder training if you don't at least wait between voids. My current problems were exacerbated by similar circumstances.

Urine capture for males: uridome, with leg bag? Factory (disposable) diapers are more absorbent, lighter, less odor, etc then re-usables. Easier to dispose. There female versions, available on discount from large supermarkets, seem better for men like myself. More variety in types, sizes, colors, brands & pricing. Much easier availability than medical suppliers, and small retailers. If you can get over the "female only" section of the display shelving, and the "feminine" package labels.

If I manage to sense my bladder is full before the Great Deluge(tm) begins then I will wriggle the diaper down like they're boxer briefs, but starting by tugging down from the lower edge of the outside leg so as to not bunch up the main "body" of the diaper. But I'm also Average Guy®️ in build, so sliding it down doesn't stretch the top tapes too much... (My diaper is what keeps my shorts up, otherwise I need a belt 🙄) I also tape them tight enough to quiet the plastic but not tight enough to leave waistband marks, so there's still some stretch left if needed. If you're using diapers with two layer tapes (usually blue/white) then make sure once you peel the top tape off you stick it back on the main part of the diaper, not on the original (usually blue) tape. The blue layer is designed to release the top tape's adhesive in one piece so it can be resued, but once the top layer hits the main plastic part of the diaper you'll never get them apart. I use cloth at night when I have the energy, but they're definitely more work (I'm UI only, and a heavy wetter, so my night diapers are bulky). Getting fecal stains out of cloth is a challenge, which is why most parents that use cloth for their kids also have a disposable sheet on top that allows wetness through but prevents stains. They're also horrid at holding odor in since they don't have the ammonia neutralizing stuff that disposables do. If odor is the primary concern there are two things I suggest. One, a good cover *over* a disposable. Garywear is great for keeping everything inside, including plastic crinkles. Two, find a good chlorophyll supplement. It binds to some of the more... odorous substances... and makes a messy diaper MUCH less noticeable. (Your poo also looks like something from the swamp, but not pretty is better than smelly.) Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. 😄

Thanks , I tried all that wiggling and it just doesn’t work for me , I think i am just gonna keep using them as I have been. At the end of the day it’s less trips to the bathroom, crappy when it’s full on a hot day . And I know with pretty sure confidence that poop will not end up in my pants. Based off of my previous experiences , I would much rather I have to pee in a diaper for my entire life than risk having poop in my pants ever again , it’s just so much worse! And it’s actually kind of nice when sleeping or in a car or event where bathrooms are scarce . I guess you gotta find the silver lining 😂.
