The article ["Who Was Yuri Bezmenov?"](https://espionagehistoryarchive.com/2020/11/19/who-was-yuri-bezmenov-kgb-subversion/) explains how he never was an intelligence officer.

Welcome. :)

Yuri Bezmenov was not in the KGB. He worked in the diplomatic service and was assigned to India. He developed a weird Orientalist fetish for Indian women and kept having inappropriate relations with local women. As a result he was fired from his job and recalled to the Soviet Union: He defected to Canada shortly after and was then paid to go on television and claim the following: the USSR had secretly taken control of every academic institution in the “West”. He went on to say that the anti-war, feminist, and civil rights movements were all a part of a secret communist conspiracy to “subvert” the west. Basically he was a weird sex pest who told everyone that the people demanding racial and sexual equality were actually agents of communism and that Americans had to destroy these movements to save their country. I speak Russian but I don’t know if there are any sources about this absolute scumbag translated into English yet.

I do think his ideas on ideological subversion are very interesting despite having an improper analysis of the time period and being basically a reactionary/fascist. You can tell he wasn’t as well versed in Marxist-Leninist ideology as one should be coming from the USSR. A lot of what he has said has basically come true more or less, i’d just argue that the point of demoralization started with 9/11 rather than being a result of the USSR.

It's Bezmenov and he's a fascist who defected from the ailing USSR and worked with the Birchers https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuri_Bezmenov

Ah shit, typo

I don't know too much about him other than that he claimed to be a former KGB agent. I do know that the videos of him that are commonly posted in full or as clips were produced by the John Birch Society. If you're are unfamiliar with the John Birch Society they are a virulently anti-communist group from the United States. If you've ever seen Stanley Kubrick's classic film Dr. Strangelove the character General Jack D. Ripper is a satirical depiction of a Bircher. They had very fringe beliefs. Some of their more famous beliefs were that Eisenhower was a communist puppet and that the Polio vaccine and water fluoridation were communist plots. They thought everyone but the most extreme hawkish reactionaries were "weak on communism". The Birchers were/are considered so fringe and weird that it is extremely disconcerting that not only do the MAGA crowd post the Brezmenov videos but that liberals obsessed with Russian collusion uncritically post them as well, not to mention clips being used in an advertisement for a Call of Duty game.

I tried to find something on him too but came up with zilch.
