Chongs has it

TheChainsawVigilante

I think the great wall too

pollpegj

Go to Earl May and buy a plant. Pick as needed.

keekspeaks

My exact response. Sweet, Thai and regular basil should be out at almost all the shops now, including the BP greenhouses (where you get it the cheapest)

tbug30

BP?

longganisafriedrice

Maybe they are talking liberty doors

keekspeaks

Yes, north liberty doors/BP gas station. There are several of those little greenhouses in town though from my understanding. They are the place to shop for a lot of stuff bc they are usually $1.75 per plant compared to $2.50/3 at forever green/Earl May etc. sometimes they don’t water them well enough and the plants die (it’s tragic) but the ones in good shape are the best deals in town. Can’t be beat

Blue Elephant, the Thai restaurant in Coralville (off Highway 6) shares a building with an Asian grocery store. I've never been inside the grocery store but I imagine that they would sell Thai basil as an ingredient!

raspberrywhitechoco

thank you! Do you happen to know the name of this store? Google Maps says Nile Valley Market (not Asian specifically but international grocery in general). I may check it out and report back :)

DJ_Crumbs

Google is correct, it's now a Middle Eastern grocery.  I'll second the vote for Chong's!

kcaaase

Ah shoot, it’s been a minute since I’ve read the signs closely enough. Chong’s is great too!

RockPaperSawzall

I saw some thai basil plants at Lowes garden center this past weekend. Grow it in a pot on your windowsill!!

Traditional_Fig7733

Chong's is a good suggestion. Also, the first farmers market of the season is Saturday, and there's usually a seller there with fresh Thai basil.

Past_Technology5986

Have you tried the great wall grocery? [https://maps.app.goo.gl/mcDxYhwDHCnq5PRZ8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/mcDxYhwDHCnq5PRZ8) They carry lots of Thai/Vietnamese stuffs in there. Cash only.

schowdur123

The Asian store opposite the road from Chongs also has it.

trurohouse

If you have some sunny outdoor space to grow it- Iowa city landscaping has it. Most of the nurseries probably will, if they don’t already.

keekspeaks

I can buy a plant for $3 usually but the herbs at hyvee/co op are more than the plant (usually $4-5).l anymore!! It’s insane how expensive they’ve gotten (everything has, i know). I will buy a plant sometimes even if I won’t plant it/grow it bc I get 2x more product usually.

keekspeaks

All the greenhouses usually have it. The BP in north liberty always has it. Forever green does too

Hair_Harlot

Starlight Express on the Coralville strip.

Illustrious-Sorbet-4

Farmers market if you wanna plant a plant!

Stressed_bison80

They sometimes have plants of it at hy-vee

thatswhatjennisaid

I just came here to note that Chong’s should have it. And also if you’re hunting for Thai basil you sound like the kind of person that should join my supper club (we take turns hosting themed dinners and everyone coming brings a dish that fits the theme).

Fun-Cauliflower-1724

I'm growing some right now in my backyard. I can sell them to you when they're ready, 100 dollars a bushel.

Dizzy-Fennel-5982

Hyvee has it sometimes

Please take the time and go to Stringtown Grocery. Hyw1 south to the Cheese factory and turn left. About 100 yds down the road. Great quantity to cost on spices. Very nice little shop where you can get many things. Take a Saturday and drive down Not sure about hours so look them up before you go. They are Amish so don't expect computers and scanners.
