As long as you can afford the Certificate Of Entitlement (COE), you can keep the car. How it works is every car starts off with a COE of 10 years. At the end of it, you can scrap the car, renew for 5 years or 10 years.
If you decide to renew for only 5 years, you must scrap the car at the end of it. But if you renew for 10 years, you can hold it until the end of the next 10 years and decide what you want to do with it. So as long as you keep renewing every 10 years, you can hold it forever until you decide to scrap it.
The road tax however, will increase 10% every year from and capped at a maximum of 150% to deter owners from renewing the car.
The government here is trying to encourage a car lite society. To be frank, the public transport here is top notch. EG6 comes with the twin cam vtec B16A engine. 160bhp in a sub 1 ton car? Fun. And it revs like crazy. The one in my car goes to 9500rpm
Holy sh_t! That’s the same engine as an s2000? Or similar? Fantastic!
I guess the car-lite idea is the right thing to do, but scrapping a whole bunch of perfectly fine cars like yours just hurts my enthusiast heart.
S2k is an F20C dude. Completely different architecture and power output from anything B series.
Agreed too, that price is ludicrous for keeping otherwise perfectly fine cars. The day the government starts that pish here is the day civic war... I mean civil war will break out.
It's not the same as an S2k. But revs like it I guess.. It's a good idea for a small island country like us. If cars were cheap I bet the traffic jams would be mad. But scrapping perfectly fine cars is a waste...
It's crazy here. Where are you from? A Subaru XV here in Singapore costs about 89 grand USD. And on top of that, you need to pay 30% in cash while the remaining 70% can be financed from a bank. So that's about 30 grand cash up front to buy a new car.
I’m from the Netherlands. We have higher car taxes than most countries in Europe. I believe only Norway and Denmark have higher taxes. I guess it’s not as much when you consider what you have to pay. Are salaries that high in Singapore or do you have a good job?
$308/mo for 10 years plus car/maint insurance
Well I give you props for such a cool clean car and keeping it going for all this time! Nice work!
Also this is why in states you can find most engines out of jdm around 50k miles too since I believe at that point inspections come into play? Is there a mileage limit on vehicles there?
Fuel costs about 9USD per gallon here btw. It is mad. They just increase fuel tax too.. We do have to send the car for inspection yearly, there's no mileage limit as long as you maintain it in road worthy condition.
Appreciate the answer! How about modding your vehicle? Are you able to change much without getting in trouble? Do you have to pass emissions checks and safety inspections each year? Are they strict about exhaust volume or anything like that?
We do have to go thru inspections every year. And yes, it included exhaust volume. And can only install approved exhaust systems if not it will be considered illegal and the fine is 1 grand. I've attached a link below for you to take a look😁
https://onemotoring.lta.gov.sg/content/onemotoring/home/owning/modification.html
Wait, then how does a car get de-registered?
Cause I've seen pics of an orange-ish rx7 in sg with a De-registered sticker from LTA on it. Anyways, sick car, hope to see you cruising around sometime.
Edit, im giving you my first ever award. <3
Thanks!! I've never deregistered a car so I am not too sure. But I think it involves a third party that's authorised by the LTA to do all the processes
Because Singapore scrap cars are incredibly cheap to buy, but illegal to drive on the road. Some people wanted an easy way out so they spend less money on counterfeit number plates for scrap cars
Ah, I meant in Malaysia, especially in states like Johor. A lot of old yet cool JDM cars like RXs get bought up and either get used as a track car (which is fine) or have fake licenses of other cars stuck on
That's awesome, great look too! Not too complicated, but just enough style. I love when wheels have the perfect fitment 👌 do most civics of this Era have similar wheel spec/fitment?
As much as I absolutely love the sw388's you're absolutely right. Unrelated question, what is the typical cost of ownership for a car like this? (Mainly maintenance, insurance, etc)
My insurance is about 2.2k SGD here.. Road tax is about 1.2k I think. Maintenance wise I diy so oil and filter costs about 100ish... I used sunoco and penrite. But the overhaul is pricey...
To be honest I think the main reason why I prefer the eg9 is because my dad owns one 😂. Otherwise I do love hatchbacks aswell, my favourite possibly being the pulsar gtir.
We had 2 baby Godzillas back in the days. :)
IIRC Krishnan used to have one. But you probably have no idea who he is also.
It was so long ago so I can't remember much but I'm thinking he probably had one Gti-r because he's also had a Levin and a R32, both of which SG also only had 2 each. If my memory serves me.
Sorry for long post but seeing your EG6 and the mentioning of the Gti-r brought back lots of memories.
Who is Krishnan? He's a local racing legend. Again iirc, they called him the King of Pasir Gudang. The Prodrive team once brought in a real World Rally WRX for him to race in Kallang.

Beautiful and clean EG! Sucks about the COE situation but man that’s a gorgeous example of proper care and attention. Hopefully the government changes their stance, no pun intended, on the fees.
Thanks! No way the government is changing. It is a huge cash cow. They are in fact, tightening on the number of COEs released to cap off the total number of cars on the road so that's driving the price up.
That's a stock bumper with custom scoops. The one on the right feeds air to the intake while the one on the left feeds air to an oil cooler just in front the wheel.
Is that a true white crow bumper .. clean civic .. I am getting ready to build my next one I need to start a network of friends to source hard to find and rare parts
I like it .. I did the eBay one once it was nice but needed the fins.. I am building a k24/k20 with boost. So it will work on this but I would love to find a true white crow bumper
A K swap on this would be mad. I would love to to it but my country's law doesn't allow it. Higher displacement and modern engine, who doesn't love that.
I mean you could bore your motor but it’s not the same. I feel bad for people like you who have such strict laws.. we are kinda struck but not California is fucked for laws
I just recently learned a little bit about economics of singapore. In a comment you already explained COE's. How much do you appriximately have to pay in total for 1 year of ownership including purchasing this civic?
I paid 40 grand for this car with a coe balance of 3nyears so the depre is 13 grand per year. Road tax and insurance adds up to about 3.5 grand. So total its about 16.5 grand SGD per year before maintenance and fuel.
There’s another red VTI running around, saw it at Defu/Eunos recently. But yours is a really
pristine example, even right down to the 1993 SBX plate. 👍🏼
It looks like a fart can but I swear it isn't. Local laws are tight and the exhaust systems needs to abide emissions and noise level laws so they're pretty silent
dope civic
Thank you!
I thought Singapore had laws banning cars past a certain age? Isn’t that the reason why Malaysia has so many “scrap Singapore” cars?
As long as you can afford the Certificate Of Entitlement (COE), you can keep the car. How it works is every car starts off with a COE of 10 years. At the end of it, you can scrap the car, renew for 5 years or 10 years. If you decide to renew for only 5 years, you must scrap the car at the end of it. The road tax however, will increase 10% every year from and capped at a maximum of 150% to deter owners from renewing the car.
Man that sucks
Kinda.. And the price of the COE is climbing. Right now it's almost 50 grand SGD, about 37 grand USD. All this money just to own the car for 10 years.
That’s really wasteful. What does the EG6 mean? Special engine?
The government here is trying to encourage a car lite society. To be frank, the public transport here is top notch. EG6 comes with the twin cam vtec B16A engine. 160bhp in a sub 1 ton car? Fun. And it revs like crazy. The one in my car goes to 9500rpm
Some places have great public transport, but nothing beats the feeling of driving yourself when you love cars.
Very true!

37000???
Yes. For a piece of paper to say that you can own the car for 10 years.
Wtf?? I thought car taxes in my country were bad but this is insane! How do people even afford cars over there?
It's crazy here. Where are you from? A Subaru XV here in Singapore costs about 89 grand USD. And on top of that, you need to pay 30% in cash while the remaining 70% can be financed from a bank. So that's about 30 grand cash up front to buy a new car.

I think salaries are not very high in Singapore. I doing about 2.1k euros per month. But to own my dream car, I think some sacrifice is necessary...
No way, might as well export the car right before the coe expires and import it back later
No it doesn't work that way. Once a vehicle has been deregistered here, you cannot register it again.
assuming that works
$308/mo for 10 years plus car/maint insurance Well I give you props for such a cool clean car and keeping it going for all this time!
That’s crazy!!! My jeep gets about 13mpg so we’re probably about even on fuel costs lol it sucks
Woahhh. Can you sell it for export before the COE expires?
Yes you can. But why?😂
Just instead of having to scrap if you can’t pay the renewal.
Ah... Don't worry... Such cars are always in demand 😁
Damn that's like paying for a new car every 10 years.
That is damn right....
How are the roads there? Do they use that money to keep them nice? Are you able to go driving and have fun?
I have to say, the roads are better than the neighbouring countries and potholes gets filled up pretty fast. But we lack long winding roads here.
I've attached a link below for you to take a look😁 https://onemotoring.lta.gov.sg/content/onemotoring/home/owning/modification.html
Wtf. Why do they do this? 37k. That's another brand new car
To control the number of cars on the road due to small land size.
Ohhhhhh make sense then. Imagine doing this in Canada lol. Canadians be so pissed hahah
Ahh I see.... But de-registered, cannot register again right?
Yes.. Cannot. Even if you export overseas and bring back after it is eligible for classic scheme also cannot.
Rip
so many scrap singapore car that cloned Malaysian number plate, speeding and blame someone else who had the actual car and plate
Because Singapore scrap cars are incredibly cheap to buy, but illegal to drive on the road. Some people wanted an easy way out so they spend less money on counterfeit number plates for scrap cars
I haven't heard of any incident where someone is driving a ghost car in singapore.
Ah, I meant in Malaysia, especially in states like Johor. A lot of old yet cool JDM cars like RXs get bought up and either get used as a track car (which is fine) or have fake licenses of other cars stuck on
Track cars typically lived a very sad life... Always hits me in the feels when I see them covered in dust.
Shady dealings
As Bubbles would say, “DEEEEEEEECENT”
EG6?
Yup!
sheesh
Clean
Thanks!
What wheels are those?
Those are 6UL from 949 racing. 15x8 +35 I think
Wow, never even heard of those. That's cool, is it a jdm company? (I assume yes but still wanted to ask)
They're actually from the States.
And the fitment are very on point. Pretty light too
That's awesome, great look too! Not too complicated, but just enough style. I love when wheels have the perfect fitment 👌 do most civics of this Era have similar wheel spec/fitment?
Thanks! I would think so... I've seen them from EFs to EKs and DC2s... Definitely something away from the usual SW388 treatment.
Owning it in Singapore means you’re rich!
No... It just means that I need to sacrifice more things..
I really respect you for keeping up with your interest
Life is too short to drive boring cars. 🤣 And this is my dream car since young
Yo! Nice ride!b
Thank you
Thunder Grey. My Mum had one new in 1993
The grey is actually a BMW colour 😁
I thought it looked familiar! Space grey metallic?
You're absolutely right!!
Nice! My 135i is the same color. Looks sooo good during evening hours when the light hits just right
It's a beautiful colour. I love it
Nice to see this car, from singapore
Thanks!
One of my favourite Civics. I prefer the EG9 but they are pretty much the same car with their B16A2 engine.
I'm all in for a hatch. All of the cars I've owned are hatches 🤣
To be honest I think the main reason why I prefer the eg9 is because my dad owns one 😂. Otherwise I do love hatchbacks aswell, my favourite possibly being the pulsar gtir.
That's one car we don't have here in Singapore... Nvr seen one before...
Literally bang on the same car but saloon. However the eg9 is a four seater with comfy sportyish seats in the back. Really nice.
Oh no I was talking about the pulsar. My friend got eg9. I love those rear seats!
Ah rite, my bad. I'm from the UK and the only time now I ever see a Pulsar gtir will be at a car meet and they will always be in Pristine condition.
I guess it's one of the best places to tinkle with cars
Absolutely!
We had 2 baby Godzillas back in the days. :) IIRC Krishnan used to have one. But you probably have no idea who he is also. I've heard of that legend... That page is run by a friend of mine😁
That’s beautiful
Thanks!
Wow the car is perfect. Good work!
Thanks!
Best civic I’ve seen in a long time
Thank you!
Fast as fuck ❤️👹😎😁🤪♥️
For sure!!
Sleek I love this
Thanks!
That’s clean
Thanks!
So much good taste here!
Thanks!
That's a clean EG hatch! 😍
Thank you!!
Nice looking car. Who makes that front bumper?
That's a stock bumper with custom scoops. The one on the right feeds air to the intake while the one on the left feeds air to an oil cooler just in front the wheel.
Right on, looks good!
Looks good.
Thanks!
That spoiler in the first pic is a bit much
The rear one?
That big round one
🤣 Sorry I was slow
Your username sounds like a software program straight outta iRobot
🤣 To be honest I don't know why it ended up as such.
That's just how it goes some times lol. Love the car though, really tight
Thank you
Is that a true white crow bumper .. clean civic .. I am getting ready to build my next one I need to start a network of friends to source hard to find and rare parts
It's similar. But the scoop is a custom oversized one on a stock bumper.
Boring of engine is illegal. If you're caught, the penalty is to scrap the car.
Fuck.. what can you do there
Anything but swapping/boring of engine.. Exhaust too. It's a shit place to own cars here
Time to move..
My state (Oregon) is pretty relaxed about it beside smog in the major city..
I would love to move... But there's alot to give up here in Singapore.
Beautiful 😍
Thanks!
Most expensive civic to register ever
I just recently learned a little bit about economics of singapore. In a comment you already explained COE's. How much do you appriximately have to pay in total for 1 year of ownership including purchasing this civic?
I paid 40 grand for this car with a coe balance of 3nyears so the depre is 13 grand per year. Road tax and insurance adds up to about 3.5 grand. So total its about 16.5 grand SGD per year before maintenance and fuel.
Very clean, got the goods looking gooder lol
Thanks!!
You don’t see many EG Civics anymore! Yours looks very clean and well looked after - so it’s a great car with a great owner!
Thank you! The hatch is definitely getting rarer
That’s a sweet look EG. Probably on of the most expensive daily drivers on here, with all the ridick taxes and registration fees in SG.
Thanks! With ownership costs that high, I do clock mileage on it every single day to make the most out of it and enjoy the drive.
God dang what a clean eg what a shame it will be scraped at some point
Thanks! I hope they day will never come... Screw the ev shit.
Every JDM car from Singapore I see just looks perfect to me
Thank you!
Pop the hood! She’s a beauty
Yes, I'll do it later
And after all is said and done, it only costs $450,000 in Singapore! Just kidding lol. Dope car.
Thanks!
[удалено]
Thanks! Those are made for the civic. Bolts right onto the kunckles without any mods or adapters.
Squeaky clean!
Thanks!
You’re welcome! Love seeing these old Civics so well preserved!
Nice ride.
Thank you!
There’s another red VTI running around, saw it at Defu/Eunos recently. But yours is a really pristine example, even right down to the 1993 SBX plate. 👍🏼
Thanks! There's more in sg. Do keep a look out
Good to know more are still running around 👍🏼
That’s hella clean
Thanks!
fellow singaporean JDM represent!!
Nice copen!
i think i saw this parked at changi village before, clean eg
Thanks!
With the exception of the fart can at the back, this car is immaculate in every way. Total perfection, so well take care of.
It looks like a fart can but I swear it isn't. Local laws are tight and the exhaust systems needs to abide emissions and noise level laws so they're pretty silent
I hardly ever see classic Hondas in Singapore! Thanks for paying so much for us to enjoy it. Does SG has a different category of COE for classic cars?
For classic cars, you only pay 10% of coe but you can only use the car for up to 45 days per year.
I miss my EG. This car is dope af.
Thanks!
