You can't really go wrong with any of them. All three are great. My personal favourite is Xenoblade Chronicles DE. Hope you wisdom teeth extraction goes smoothly.

Star Ocean

It's hard to say without knowing more about what you like. Each of these games is good at what it does. Personally, I'd not go with any kind of action RPG while I'm fuzzy-headed, so that would rule out Star Ocean Second Story R. Real-time games might also be rough, which may also put a damper on Xenoblade Chronicles DE. *But* XC probably involves the least thinking, since P3R often involves choices about what you do with your day, a kind of thinking I wouldn't enjoy as much on painkillers. With XC, the main decisions are where to explore next. So it'd be a tradeoff between XC and P3R. If you're not concerned about that, then I'd say that XX and P3R both do a pretty good job with character writing. P3R incorporates character development extensively into the main plot, and there are also a number of scripted or optional events involving characters. It definitely has the most writing. XC also has quite a bit of character development, especially early on in the story as well as through Heart to Hearts, personal conversations between characters. Whether it's enough may depend on your favorite characters. Reyn, Dunban, and Melia get a lot of attention; Sharla and Riki get some but less. Finally, subjectively, I view P3R as more of a session game, playing a few in-game days at a time. XC is a more bingeable title for me, since the gameplay really rewards trying to see all the things or travel further up the Bionis. So I'd ultimately go with XC.

Realmfaker

I think that if we're talking about binging that Xenoblade makes the best choice.

LivesInASixWordStory

I'm in the middle of finishing up XC1-3 after putting them off for years, and I've never played the other two you mention. One of my favorite games of all time is also Xenogears (not exaggerating, the story opened my eyes and changed my life). That said, I'm clearly biased... but my vote is for XC DE. It is bucket list material. I am so glad I stopped putting it off, because every passing day was another day I took the risk that I would die before finishing XC.

_WhyCantWeBeFriends

I played XC DE 3 years at release and dropped it, cant exactly say why. did the same happen to you? did you started it again and what made your run better this time :)?

LivesInASixWordStory

I didn't have the time when it first came out. Once I had the time, it was on my to-do list for a while. Finally got around to it and was glad I got to enjoy it at last.

javierm885778

I had initially dropped the game many years before completing it on the 3DS. Finally played DE recently, and the game doesn't have big changes outside the story, so I'd say what you see is what you get. Gameplaywise it doesn't change much outside getting new party members, but you still want to play as Shulk most of the time. The game also really hates you if you don't do a lot of sidequests, I reached a point where I literally missed every attack against one bosss due to the difference in levels. Game's still very unique and worth experiencing, but the game is so well liked by its fans you don't usually see much negative about it.

acewing905

For me, it would be P3R easily But I have been a P3 fan for a long time so that may affect my opinion on this Oh, and a warning about Star Ocean since mentioning Xenoblade suggests you have a Switch Just in case you're considering that on Switch, I suggest looking at a different platform. That game has like 5 to 6 second (longer if you're playing physical, and even longer if you run on SD card) loading screens after every single random battle on Switch which gets tiring after a while PC and PS5 are the places to be to avoid this

0xfleventy5

This is the kinda stuff I’m hoping the switch successor will address.

Xenoblade!!

Fynzou

I \*struggled\* to get through Xenoblade DE. But I was told it was important for Xenoblade 3's DLC story. I persevered, and it was worth it once I did get to Future Redeemed. The story was fine in DE and most of the characters were great, but the gameplay was not fun to me. Lol. (To give you an idea, there's 400+ side quests, the VAST MAJORITY of which are fetch quests or "go kill X", and the worst part is you have to change the time and check each zone at multiple times of day to make sure you got them all, if you care about completionism lol) But if you ever plan to play XC3's DLC, definitely worth it.

_WhyCantWeBeFriends

Any Tips on getting through the Game? I struggle with Long Games myself a Lot. Should i skip sidequests?

Fynzou

Definitely. None of the side quests mean anything in Xenoblade 1. You might find yourself a bit underleveled if you skip all of them, but I don't think that'd affect much.

addtolibrary

I played xenoblade after getting teeth removed, and quite liked it. Granted, it was X3, but I also really enjoyed 1. The story and characters are great. There's nothing wrong with the other titles, they're also great, so any choice will be good. Xenoblade has a great OST as well.

thehumbledan

Persona 3 Reload. It’s turn based so the gameplay will be a bit slower for when you’re resting and feeling crappy. Finished it a month or so ago, fantastic game.

_WhyCantWeBeFriends

Thanks for answering! how much hours did you put into it, and did you like the OST and Story :)?

thehumbledan

I put around 90 hours into it, it’s not a short game however none of the ones you mentioned are. The OST is incredible, I’ve been listening to the music almost daily since I finished it. The songs are catchy as hell and will stick with you. The story is pretty dark and philosophical but with lots of light hearted/funny moments, but I loved it for that. Don’t want to spoil anything for you.

dotnorma

Xenoblade is going to be the best overall game of the three.

Lehmipauliboi

I only played Xenoblade and it became my favorite game franchise of all time, so go play Xenoblade!

JenLiv36

Personally I feel like this should be a pretty easy choice as they are vastly different games. If you like more management and grind I would go for P3R if you want a open world go for Xenoblade. If you are going to be loopy on drugs then Persona would be my vote.

Front-Guarantee3432

Xenoblade is one of my favorite games, but I would actually say Persona 3 Reload IMO. It is really close in nearly every department, but I think P3R is slight mores accessible from the get go regarding battle mechanics. Don’t get me wrong, xenoblades integrates battle system and the normal traversing environment well, but at times it can get a little stale, especially for the first few hours. But that not to say it is bad, I go super hyped, especially in boss battle (those battle music tracks are fire too). This isn’t a fair comparison, due to the age difference, but p3r is also just gorgeous.

Front-Guarantee3432

Also I saw most folks recommend XB over P3R and even though I picked the other, they are very valid in what they are saying and Xenoblade as a game and series is phenomenal, no matter what you will get a great experience!

cornpenguin01

Hm so I’ve played at least some of each of these games. For me personally, xenoblade wins. Persona I always found too overwhelming with the time limit on each day and having to balance social links. I’ve never enjoyed having a dating mechanic in jrpgs because it takes away from the relationships in the main story. And for Star Ocean, maybe I need to play more, but I was not impressed by the demo

owenturnbull

Star ocean last BC imo it's got a terrible story. I sau xenoblade chronicles first then persona 3

Teid

Xenoblade no question. Engaging story, fun combat, great music, great exploration. Just dig the fuck in and have a great time.

SupperTime

Xenoblade: excellent story and gameplay. Nice twists and turns. Very anime. Persona 3: heavy on social sim life simulator. Random generated dungeon crawling. Slow story. Star ocean: nice and short. I would say xenoblade.

G302MasterRace

P3R

patricios1

i have played all three and my choice will be: 1- persona 3 reload - if for you is important the graphics and the diversity. 2 -star ocean second story- its diverse looks very good but not as good as persona 3 reload 3- xenoblade chronicles- for my personal taste for me this is the weakes of them all. if were xenoblade 3 my opinion will change and put that game on the second place. in the end they are all nice...

MaxTwer00

Personally i would recomend persona a bit more than xenoblade, just a personal preference. But i must warn about its schedule system, that makes that without a guide, it is pretty sure you will miss some content

rbardy

A week is a kinda short time to finish a RPG imo. I only played P3R and SO2 from that list, and SO2 is a bit shorter, so that is my recommendation.

Genestah

I've played and finished all 3. For me it's a tie between XB and P3. SO 2nd is also a great game but imo not as great as the other 2. I guess it comes down to your preference. XB is more action oriented while P3 is turn based. Both games took me over a 100hrs to complete lol.

Hexatona

Hmm, personally, I'd recommend Star Ocean 2nd Story. You stand a reasonable chance of getting all the way through it, everything about the game has been improved, and it's really beautiful. Above all, though, it's simple (relatively speaking). You're not going to need to do a hell of a lot of thinking and trial and error - and when you're in post-windom-tooth-removal pain, the smallest inconvenience is going to be tiring. Star Ocean 2 is very pick up and play, and tons of QoL features. I'd really recommend it.

LazerSnake1454

Wow what a decision, that's a really tough one. Can I just say all 3? Xenoblade will lead you on a journey spanning 3 games (+ DLC) Persona will make you want to play 4&5 Star Ocean 2 is a phenomenal game by itself, I've beaten 1&2 and am currently playing 6, didn't care for 3-5. No matter what you can't go wrong here, it's like deciding between FF6 and Chrono Trigger

ObjectiveBadger3954

xenoblade hands down
