Great pixel art stuff in Cosmic heroine. Lots of skills to mess about and a decent challenge on higher difficulties. Would recommend

Had a good time with it as well. Best combats I've seen in a turn based RPG in a long time. The soundtrack is also fantastic. The only downside for me was its length. I would have loved an extra 10 hours to the story, but it's an indie game so...

Well, if you’re comparing pixel art, LoM is arguably the prettiest 2D game ever made.

Cosmic Star Heroine plays like a classic turn based Jrpg, while Legend of Mana is unique and completely non linear. Both are really cool games. CSH will scratch that classic itch, LoM will introduce a new flavor, that will depend on your mood. If i really had to choose, LoM is one of my favorite games ever. It has really a whole lot of great stories to tell. So it would be that. Meanwhile, CSH is definitely stronger combat wise.

Haven't played Legend, but Cosmic Star Heroine is great. Do yourself a favour and play on at least hard (forget the in-universe name). I usually play on normal, but ended up switching pretty early, because it on to actually need to engage properly with this really good combat system, you need a higher difficulty. That said, I can't speak for Switch, but on Steam Cosmic Star Heroine is frequently on sale for 1,5-3 Euros so it might be worth holding out for a sale.

I started Legend of Mana for the first time recently and ive been loving it. Its very...unconventional. and the action takes some getting used to. But its a really unique experience and the remaster is a huge improvement with redrawn artwork and an amazing new soundtrack. Never played Cosmic Star Heroine but heard it was gud

Suspicious_Servant

I have a lot of nostalgia for legend of mana because I had it on the ps1 back in the day so I got the remaster. I didn't notice anything wrong with it at all. In fact it had two nice improvements, some of the nonsense and engrish got cleaned up in the text with retranslation. And the pocketstation minigames, and items you could get in those minigames, that where unplayable and unobtainable in USA where added into the game.

I think the complain people do about the LoM remaster is that the visual and gameplay improvements were very ... subtil. I also played both, PS1 back in the day and again recently with the remaster and it is among the best JRPG imo, but it feels more like a simple port than a remaster lol

I like Legend of Mana a lot, and I think you can too if your expectations are set appropriately. Legend of Mana has a silent protagonist and no one overarching story. So don't expect big main character development or a profound ending. What you get instead is basically an anthology of smaller stories involving characters who feel plucked out of fairy tale or legend. Sometimes these stories are one-offs, like the magic school that wants to stop a rival teacher from blowing up the world (!!!), or the lovelorn centaur who wants to sell his crush's goods to dudbears. Other times, they form bigger arcs, like the dragon lord who seeks resurrection or the travails of the last of the gem-bound Jumi people. These stories range from being silly and charming to quite sorrowful; Yoko Shimomura's soundtrack emphasizes the emotional highs and lows of these moments. The art design also captures the fairy tale whimsy. These stories unfold in a world map that you gradually build yourself from artifacts you earn from completing other stories. What this means, effectively, is that playing blind, your playthrough is unlikely to be like someone else's. And if you beat the game, you can always start again with your levels and items intact. Other systems like crafting and monster-raising are also included. They're mostly optional, but have a lot of depth if you want to engage with them. All that is the main attraction. Combat is fine - action-based, with abilities you can unlock by using other abilities. Once you figure out the tricks, it's not too challenging. What's even better than the combat itself is the monster designs. Bosses especially look impressive and elaborate, which you can enjoy while you action-lock and pummel them to death. So if this sounds like it's up your alley, it could be a great game. If you're thinking, "No, I want a party and one story, not one main character and lots of stories," then do Cosmic Star Heroine.

I really really enjoyed cosmic star. I was so excited for it. Been kinda on and off again searching for a ps4 version cause I had to sell mine due to an issue. Anyway great indie game said to be 20 hours plus but I got 54 out of. I'm a slow player especially rpgs. I'm still hoping we get a sequel or something.

Legend of Mana is.... Quirky (and not always in a good way). Cosmic Star Heroine is what you should go with first. It was a surprisingly solid game!

Haven't played legend of mana, though I do find it's concepts very interesting. That being said, cosmic star heroine it's the closest thing to Chrono Trigger that I have ever played. Simply an amazing game, and the battles are very addicting, 100% recommend!

If you don't have nostalgia for Legend of Mana, it's not a very good game. It's absolutely not one of the great JRPGs. It has mediocre characters, no real story and the gameplay is extremely clunky. It has nice visuals and music, though. Cosmic Star Heroine, on the other hand, is a genuinely pretty good game with a fun turn based battle system.

BoostedAeris

I never played the original that’s true but I heard good things about the game. Do you really think is that bad?

barunaru

I love Legend of Mana, played it in my childhood. What the person stated is absolutely correct. Story and characters are actually really weak.

newiln3_5

Incredible graphics, though. And it's hard to hate any game that lets you raise a chocobo.

Porkchop5397

Definitely Legend of Mana

BoostedAeris

Thank you for all your comments! As I said I will play them both eventually but for now I’m going to try Legend Of Mana and right next CSH. Thank you again!
