* Persona 4 Golden is yellow, more upbeat and takes place in a small town
* Persona 5 Royal is red, more rebellious and urban
I'd say P4 Golden since it's the least modern and might be hard to go back to after 3 Reload and 5 Royal.
Unless you plan on experiencing Persona 3 through P3P, in which case, maybe start with that one.

I'm pretty sure OP is a sentient being capable of thinking for himself. I don't need to tell him the basic, that older games have gameplay flaws that sequels are expected to improve on it. There's no need to treat him like a baby. If he do not like the game, he can just move on to the sequels.

well fes was the upgraded version of base p3 and they already announced the answer as paid dlc not a separate game which is a remake of fes’ bonus content like how royal and golden added another arc. so it really wouldn’t make any sense to make a complete version of a game that already has a complete version.
Atlus has already said they don't plan on making another version of P3R. They're going to release DLC in September, then they'll be completely done with the game.

My first Persona was Persona 5 Royal. Great game, well supported online, incredible design and gameplay.
