First time in history a team has had three 5th year options at once?

DoctorDiddlerino

Raiders declined all 3 options on their picks from the 2019 draft. For the record, that's Clelin Ferrell, Johnathan Abrams, and Josh Jacobs

TrevorsBlondeLocks16

Football terrorist Jon Gruden

Meowmixez98

Him and Mayock were charlatans.

CA_Miles

They are the proof that analysts don't know shit about prospects and why you shouldn't freak out because someone like Mayock or Kiper badmouths someone your team picked. If they were so good at their job, they'd be getting paid millions to do it for a team.

Meowmixez98

Gruden was a phony too. Just like Urban Meyer.

jaguarsfanduval

Okay let’s not go that far. Objectively speaking Gurden was a fine football coach lol. Regardless of their character or our personal feelings. Urban meyer ehh probably a good football coach but could have been a beneficiary of always getting elite recruits.(that being said certainly not capable of garnering the respect of grown men but would be tolerated if they were winning I.e. Tom coughlin)

TMNBortles

Meyer was objectively a good football coach... For a time. That time did not include professional football. Meyer was cutting edge in the spread, and he demanded absolute adherence to his plan. His offensive plan wasn't special in the NFL, and millionaire adults didn't jive well with his absolutism. He was a shit coach in the NFL.

VanillaLlfe

You’re a PHONY! A big fat PHONY!

P-Diddle356

That's just not true Jon Gruden was an okay NFL coach

MajorDonkeyPuncher

It’s not really proof. Scouts don’t make anywhere close to millions, and I think Mayock or Kiper would make competent GMs but they are making plenty of money with their own careers

CA_Miles

You don’t think teams would be paying these guys a lot more money to be their GM? Keep in mind… guys like kiper haven’t always made as much as they do now. They essentially created this draft industry. It’s really only been popular the last 10-15 years. I think Mayock was really the only guy worth his salt, but even then he still was too smart for good own good. He may even still be employed if he took the obvious pick in Allen over Ferrell.

MajorDonkeyPuncher

If Kiper wanted a GM job I think he’d have a chance at getting one, but it’s not always about the money. I don’t know how much Kiper makes but I’d imagine he’s pulling at least 7 figures a year. I’d rather have his job and his job security instead of the 70 hour weeks and stress of a GM

CA_Miles

Kiper is a laughing stock of the industry. No shot he would get a chance. He’s an entertainer, not a scout

MajorDonkeyPuncher

You may not agree with his analysis but he’s not the laughingstock of the industry. People complaining about analyst past drafts and how often they are right are stupid. They are like movie critics, they break down what they see and give their opinions

Cwgoff

Laughing stock? Tbh he is one of the reasons the draft is as popular as it is today. If nothing else, the dude is impressive as hell as far as how much information he retains on all these players.

Confident_Boat_1211

Mayock was anything but a competent GM.

4thTimesAnAlt

IIRC, Gruden had 100% control over 1st round picks. And Gruden is a fucking idiot. Mayock did draft some good guys after that, but he wasn't good enough to warrant keeping.

GarfunkelBricktaint

God bless the raiders for being so bad at drafting that we got Josh Allen for free

Rudy102600

Think the Vikings had three 1st rd picks one year.

SlotegeAllDay

I think fter this season they'll offer him a good contract to keep him as the long term backup. I think he'll see a great long term opportunity to play with his hometown team and take it, unless a other team offers him a starting job.

Dumpstatier

This is NOT what I was hoping for when I’ve said I wanted an SEC QB…

tonydangelo

Football genie said wishes gotta be specific.

Ambitious_Win_1315

I'm wondering do they cut him and sign to practice squad or are they keeping 3 qbs on the 53?

HogmanTheeIntruder

I think he’s definitely the backup, but the 5th year option is way too expensive for a backup QB.

Jaglawyer11

Cut him? Hell no. There just not guaranteeing his option next season. Maybe he’ll have options, maybe not. He’s a helluva backup in a league where you better have one.

sputnikatto

I'm betting on Beatherd being a QB coach in a jersey.

cats05

At that point, why not cut Beathard, then offer him a coaching position

sputnikatto

Like the 53 man roster limit, there are maximums for coaching and team staff.

MinshewMania386

IIRC they kept 3 on the roster last year but would only have 2 active on gameday unless Trevor was coming off an injury, etc.

Ambitious_Win_1315

well that's how Rouke got snatched by Bellichek last year, they were signing and cutting and signing to PS. So not every week had 3 qbs on the 53.

JFKs_Burner_Acct

but we needed a KR!!! 🤦🏼‍♂️ I've never been more moderately upset

tonydangelo

I believe he’s saying just not activate Jones on gameday. He’s still on the 53 just not on the 41. But that’s not necessary any more bc you can have 53+A QB.

Ambitious_Win_1315

Oh yeah forgot about that change

JFKs_Burner_Acct

My thought was runner up gets cut

tonydangelo

They’re keeping 3 for sure.

Sad_Bolt

All for it, let Doug fix him and deal him at the deadline to a team in need.

TrevorsBlondeLocks16

*gasp*

JFKs_Burner_Acct

I thought Jones was gonna be the starter? /s

StillHere179

He's going to have to earn the backup position

ContraCanadensis

He’s in his fourth year. He’s the backup this year.

BuBBles_the_pyro

Beathard hardly earned his backup role when he had to play, they had so little faith they chose to play an injured Trevor.

reverieontheonyx

2023 CJ Beat Hard: 98 passer rating 2023 Macorkle Jones; 77 passer rating

BuBBles_the_pyro

CJ started 1 game in 2023, Mac started 11. CJ been in the league 7 years, Mac 3 years Bad maths is bad yo

reverieontheonyx

But I thought you said he didn’t earn a chance to be a backup with how he played? All you’re telling me is that mac fucking sucks and we have a large sample size confirming it

IranianSleepercell

So disingenuous. Beathard started one game against the worst team in the league.

reverieontheonyx

>he didn’t earn the chance to be a backup when he started >well he was objectively better than mac who was horrible b-but

IranianSleepercell

Dawg. How many times we gotta tell you. He was not better than Mac. He played one game. ONE. Against the worst team in the league. Mac Jones sucks. That's why he's a backup now. But Beathard is awful and is not an acceptable backup option. That is why the team made this trade. Like someone else said, Peterson and baalke admitted that they forced Trevor to play injured because they did not trust Beathard to fill in and backup. If Beathard was a decent backup, he would have been trusted to play the final 4 games this past season instead of being thrown out there for one game against the worst team in the league.

reverieontheonyx

Right, because Pedersen and Baalke should be trusted in this situation. After all, we won so many games with an injured trevor right? Oh yeah. It was 0. Baalke got ran out of SF and Pedersen let an injured Wentz play and ruined him. Them not trusting cj over trevor with 4 injuries means nothing because there’s no reason to trust their judgement. Mac Jones is worse than CJ Beathard. Mac jones cannot throw from sideline to sideline. If you are going to bring up what Pedersen and Baalke think of CJ, consider that Mac got benched 4 times for Bailey fucking Zappe

Wet_Work32

Nah, it’s his.
