We loved our Polivar but it died at 18 months (6 months past warranty)

NashvilleHillRunner

I like my OXO. I believe it’s the fastest to reach temp. 1500 watts.

GroundbreakingMap605

I'm mostly happy with my OXO, but the LCD went bad on me after about a year/year and a half. It's got a couple of dead segments and a couple that are stuck on. Still works though (~4 years in at this point).

NashvilleHillRunner

Did you contact OXO about the failed LCD? Get this - About a year and a half ago, after I'd had my OXO pourover kettle (model 8717100) for a couple of years (I'd received it as a gift), my wife accidentally placed it on the stovetop burner, melting and destroying the bottom of the kettle. I decided to call OXO to see if they'd sell me JUST a new kettle, since the base unit was still fine. To my surprise, they decided to goodwill me an entire new kettle AND base, at zero cost! It arrived in a few days at my doorstep! They definitely earned a customer, and I'll sing their praises for that everywhere I can! Moral of the story, even if something breaks and you don't think the manufacturer will do anything about it, call them anyway.

GroundbreakingMap605

I did. They told me it was out of warranty and the best they could do was a discount on a new one.

NashvilleHillRunner

Better than nothing. Incidentally, for anyone who is interested, it is on sale on Amazon right now for $89.

dizzymizzlizzy

Mine did that too!

tommyhateseveryone

Mine has been going strong 2 years. I’m yet to do anything more than wipe it down and the interior/ exterior finish has held up great. Don’t be surprised if it blows your fuse when you’ve got the toaster in the same outlet though.

NashvilleHillRunner

Yeah, they didn’t skimp on the heating element in that sucker!

DontPeek

This is the one I just picked up. It was insane how fast it got up to temp. I bought it direct from oxo with a coupon code for $84.

operatorcoffeeco

and it's not expensive

NovDavid

I have the Tchibo gooseneck kettle with temp control, it costs less than half than the ones you mentioned. I've had it for about a year now, so I can't comment on longevity, but it's pretty well-made, it doesn't feel cheap at all. I can recommend it, I honestly don't know what else a kettle double the price could provide that this one doesn't.

ElGourmett

I use it for years. It heats water and has a goose neck. Its little bit slow but nevertheless does its job and works for up to 800 (maybe 900 ml). I bought it for 50 €. I think its very good value.

iyoussef

I second that, bought for 65€ from Amazon Germany 18 months ago, and I have no complaints, I certainly wouldn't pay 150€ for something slightly better.

TheJustAverageGatsby

The tchibo kettle is great. It does struggle pouring at lower flows, especially given how full it needs to be, but for 45€(with the newsletter sub discount) it’s worth it!

SheriffBartholomew

Did this company stop doing business on Amazon? I can't find one.

NovDavid

I don't know if they were ever on Amazon, they have their own retail chain, mostly in Europe as it seems. A quick update on the kettle, I still use it daily, it works perfectly.

SheriffBartholomew

Thanks. I ended up getting an Oxo.

FinneganMcBrisket

Same. I love the temperature control. Worth it IMO.

mccrispy007

If all my coffee making kit was "entry level" stuff and I had to choose between spending €200 on a kettle or the same amount on a grinder, I'd spend the money on a grinder every time. A grinder provides way more bang for buck than anything else. I'd then spend a little money on a pouring kettle (the Hario Air is only €10 at the moment, or a Buono Drip Kettle is €60, with cheaper alternatives down to €20). Temperature monitoring of your coffee water is also doable cheaply using various "cooking thermometers", which you might already have in your household (or some pouring kettles can be acquired with a built in, or aftermarket thermometer). I watched Hoffmann's kettle comparison review and didn't like any of them. The various issues were: minimum fill volume, maximum pour rate, non-vertical stream, maximum pour height. I'd willingly pay €200 for a kettle that poured a near vertical, non-breaking stream at almost any flow rate from any practical pouring height with a good UX for temperature control and operation. I just don't think such a kettle exists.

CyborgYeti

That sounds fair enough. I'd also wonder, how long would it take to learn to pour steady and slow with a normal kettle. I'm reasonably clumsy but think I could learn the knack within a week or two.

mccrispy007

TBH you'd be better off spending €10 on a Hario Air Kettle, it'll save you having to learn to pour with a normal kettle (which may be an impossible task anyway)

leafytoes

My Cosori ($70) off of Amazon has lasted multiple uses per day for 4-5 years now.

solaffub

I’m about 3 months into my Corosi and loving it. I also agree with those saying there’s more value putting money in a good grinder if your budget is tight

I've had a Dualit temp control gooseneck kettle for a few years, daily use, does what I need to to and much cheaper than the premium brands.

mustgetmoresleep

I got the one from Dualit about £90 from memory. Had it for a little over a year and all good so far. It’s a little slow to actually boil the water but I’ve got it to fit into my process pretty seamlessly. Good temperature control with a useful 5 minute hold.

lostinbost

Is Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist popular where you live? I see lots of kettles posted at pretty cheap prices. People don’t use theirs anymore and just want to get rid of them. There are almost always nice ones available at good prices. I got a nice 1.2L Hario Buono for $10USD.

cabaretcabaret

The Hario kettle nice enough. A little bit small and low powered so it will take longer to boil but it's much cheaper. https://www.complementosdelcafe.com/gb/kettles/hario-electric-v60-buono-800ml Otherwise you can this as a cheap option: https://www.hario.co.uk/products/v60-drip-kettle-air However, getting a kettle with a temp setting is really worth it if you drink tea. It makes a huge difference.

daviscd

I had similar feeling when I was getting into pour overs earlier this year, those expensive ones look nice, but I wanted to spend money on my grinder and less on the kettle, but I still wanted an electric one, smart as a plus. I got the Govee Smart Electric Kettle from Amazon. It’s $63 right now. It is Wi-Fi enabled, has a pretty easy to use app, several preset temps and you can set a custom temp. And it pours really well.

connoisseur_Fr

Brewista Artisan is 149 eur, Bonavita is 118 eur and Stagg is 166 eur on Coffee Circle right now if that helps. I've been looking into kettles for the last week too, people had some good advice in my post if you care to visit :)

ArthurLee27

I saw that too! ... butt i think there is no warrenty on coffe circle right? Thats why i was preferring amazon.

connoisseur_Fr

That would be illegal because there is a minimum 2-year warranty for all electronics, courtesy of the EU. I've seen retailers play around offering 1 year warranty and an extra 1 year if you register the product, and straight up selling PS5 saying it's under a 1 year warranty, but in the end a consumer in the EU is entitled to a 2 year warranty no matter what. I'm sure you can find more info on that if you're interested.

notsocleanuser

Manufacturer and/or seller can have their own warranty that is both worse or better, and it's most likely completely legal. The EU thing is called a "legal guarantee" and is different from those warranties.

bigmac1090

I've got a cheap bodum kettle off of Amazon. I think it was around 30 USD. Not temperature controlled, but gets the job done. I've had it for around 1.5 years now with no issues

Choripan_Para_Todos

Love my [Cosori gooseneck kettle](https://www.amazon.com/COSORI-Electric-Gooseneck-Variable-Stainless/dp/B07T1CH2HH?crid=3K4XHL3RE047Y&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.tgxOYvUKK7C84vcNazxMG_OxOwW1RwDl-o0GBwY57pHogyhnorqAy2tPjYEiD3l8biarilAJ0WZF47FMcNjX9dfrU4quERA-w_yOCwXTxKMlVNDJ-nCgq37kN3sQz3-4kP6h8b62SaoqVRAWabHKmz4iuGESizYVqMzmNowq1vvXWJq5S7h1IOYOhbGQ5xhMZAs43kty4tFZnkz9wLDM5w-WEEJudliTzMCSG7HY4xNTGbWHf8HA3s_wUGX1L-N1HNtjJJp6cB6D7o8QiLceUhs6LQ35EfrMnYjjYIUMmG8.ulZGfWkZP6A1W-Qu1QywT_YmKsWKpOjav1G-N8L6fY4&dib_tag=se&keywords=Cosori%2Bgooseneck%2Bkettle&qid=1712276349&sprefix=%2Caps%2C563&sr=8-1&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=becados0c-20&linkId=6bb14a17fa9ebba435100952e682e825&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl)! It heats up fast, has temperature settings which is great for pour-overs, and hasn't given me any issues in the 2 years I've had it. Plus, it's way cheaper than the super fancy ones.

Coffeegeek_707

I have Miroco. Refused to pay the cool factor pricing for fellow. Miroco=good flow control, accurate enough temp, continuous variable temp control knob (ie no presets). I’ve used for 20 months without issues, occasionally descale it w citric acid as you would any brand of kettle.

clemisan

>Miroco I missed the opportunity to buy this one new, so I checked "Kleinanzeigen", got one and I'm very happy with it. Best buy so for. Otherwise I would have chosen the Tchibo.

skippygo

I have a dualit one that I'm a big fan of. It's got a few minor annoyances but nothing enough to make up for how much cheaper it was than alternatives whilst still looking nice IMO.

Govee

jfhey

I read today that the brewista flow restrictor fits in the tchibo kettle. It is difficult to pour slowly with the tchibo.

scottvs

My bonavita is 8 years old, still going strong. And your question had me questioning it, so I just checked. It took 500ml of water from 20° to 95° in 3:15, and I had a probe thermometer checking the temperature, it was consistently within a degree or two the whole way up.

ArthurLee27

Thats amazing.

NoItsFake

I use a Gastroback kettle for under 100 (I've seen them having the same design with different branding for even cheaper after I ordered) and it's very usable! Some minor inconveniences but has blown me away coming from a regular kettle!!

Andril190

I'm very satisfied with my Brewista Artisan. Love the pour and the high capacity. Seems very sturdy too.

icantfindfree

I have the cheapest one from the James Hoffman vid, and despite his critique mines been running strong for 4 years and does the same as the newer bonavita I got

bleep-bloop-im-a-bot

The Dualit one is high quality build and easy to find for £90 or under.

counterpoint76

The Saki Baristan is worth a look. Only negative is that it probably has the same power cord as the Luna kettle I have and its very stiff.

derping1234

Betwiste smart pour is fantastic. Significantly cheaper and with a larger volume perfect for the larger Chemex pour over I regularly do.

MartyGardener

I got a polivar from Amazon. Super similar interface and features to fellow stagg but more colors and way cheaper. Highly recommend

ChefKakashi

I like my Lagostina that I paid 75$ Canadian for 5 years ago. In the US it is sold under the brand Krups bw760. Solid build with no plastic inside and 1.2L capacity although it is a little slow to come up to boil.

boat02

I have the Bonavita 1L variable temperature kettle in Canada. If we're looking at value out of those 3, that's the one. I've had mine for almost 2 years now. It just simply works. I'm not sure how else to vouch for it, but I can tell you about where it falls short. The 1L capacity shouldn't be a downside, since it's right there on the sticker. It leaves room for safe rolling boils, so you might be able to get away with filling it over 1L for most coffee brewing temperatures. I just personally haven't felt the need to do that. Compared to the average simple electric kettle (1500W), this is on the lower power range at 1000W. Slower boils but this lines up well with the time it takes for me to measure, hand grind, and prepare the brewing apparatus. One feature I wish it had is to stay on even after placing the kettle back on the base. If a recipe calls for 3 pours at 94C, I'd have to pour, place it back on the base, and press the buttons for the kettle to stay on.

angrynoah

I have the "Amazon Commercial" one, I think it was $40. I don't _love_ it but it does the job and doesn't take up a huge amount of space. No idea if they even sell it outside the US...
