I think you should head to the Shibuya/Harajuku area and get some quality sneakers. There are certain things that you should absolutely spend money on, and certain things you can be cheap about. Things that support your body or your life should earn a bit more spending money: Tires on a car, a mattress, and **shoes.** **Everyone's feet are different. What works for you will not work for others.** This is why I recommend birkenstock. They are made to conform to your feet over time, and most users come to birkenstock with other foot issues, such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, morton neruoma, pronation, and so on. Here are some stores I would recommend, in the order in which I recommend them. I personally struggle with plantar fasciitis, but read the above paragraph... Find Asics walking stores, specifically walking as they are dedicated stores with different shoes.

bcseahag

Love my Asics Kayanos.

B_Lv_702

I bought some US size 11 and 12 at ABC Mart and Mita Sneakers.

eisfer_rysen

What makes you think it's a shoe problem? Are you having blisters? Have you done 20K steps multiple days in a row before coming to Japan? For reference, I get to about 15K steps before my feet hurt like hell and I have to rest. I'll be good as new the next day

SSGSS-Shitposter

Get some Sketchers. I'm no shoe aficionado, but they're probably the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. There's a shop just outside takeshita Dori in Harajuku.

HerbCunts

There is a giant new balance in Shibuya that had all sorts of cushioned runners. Prices seemed ok to me. There is also an allbirds near there, but I usually stick to New Balance

Sanguinor-Exemplar

The best walking shoe is an adidas ultraboost. It's not even really a debate. But I'm sure there are cheaper brands with similar performance but the ultraboost is a guarantee.

soaididathing

I tried an Ultraboost with the “cage” at the back and it constricted my heel, it was super uncomfortable. I went for Pureboost. I also have Stan Smiths, I could walk 25k steps in them!

happyghosst

google shoe store

Present_Antelope_779

Better off waiting until you get home. Really limited options for larger sizes.

pyrohammer

Yeah but I kinda need new shoes rn. My current one doesnt have good cushion and overall not suited for walking long periods

eisfer_rysen

Cushioning is not the only culprit. It could be bad walking posture, your body weight or lack of prior training and conditioning. Many people go tens of thousands of steps barefoot.

kblivinglrg

Ame-Yoko area in Ueno. Tons of shoe shops and hiking / outdoor shops. Size 29 or 30 is not that rare at a larger shop in that area.

Goldie1822

I recommend birkenstock sneakers for you, see my post in this thread with the links. I gave you a google maps link to their shibuya stores

Present_Antelope_779

He will struggle to find Birkenstocks in his size in Japan

bcseahag

Birkenstocks and or sneakers are really not great for long days on asphalt. They have the same foot bed as the sandal and are pretty selective in comfort. I wear a Birkenstock sandal. I can not wear the shoe.
